You’d be forgiven for thinking these decorative flats were the product of one of the world’s luxury fashion houses. You’d be wrong, though; they are, in fact, by affordable super-shoe brand EGO. As our love for anything boasting some form of embroidery reaches fever pitch, these glorious loafers will take us into the sunny season with more than just a spring in our step; we’ll also have more pennies in our purse, given that they’re under £25. Why: Not to panic you, but the collection sold out in four days last time. The word ‘iconic’ is so overused it’s basically lost its meaning, but Boden’s out to reclaim the term with its new Icons range, full of clothes and accessories that make you feel more stylish just by looking at them. They say that beauty lies in the unexpected (do they say that? We’re saying it, anyway) which makes the embroidered khaki trouser suit the belle of the ball. Similarly, there are blown-up blooms and intricate embroidery on everything from midi skirts to natty knits. So you might want to get your skates on… lookmagazineuk

V ICTOR I A: ‘I’ve d e c i f i r Sac ’ t o L A From Wannabe to OBE, Victoria Beckham has really made it. But it hasn’t been easy…
COVER STORY
This honour really matters to her said Victoria, 43. ‘I’m proud to be British, honoured and humbled to receive my OBE from the Duke of Cambridge. If you dream big and work hard you can accomplish great things. I’m so happy to share this very special occasion with my parents and husband. Without their love and support, none of this would be possible.’ ‘It’s a massive life moment for her,’ says our well-placed source. ‘She works very hard and tries not to be bothered about what others think of her, but this honour really matters to her.’ The OBE shows just how far VB has come. The star’s one of the most hard-working women in the business, looking after her own fashion collection, accessories range and cosmetics line, launching fusion collection Victoria Beckham x Target just two weeks ago and guiding the career paths of her four children (she recently trademarked Harper’s name and next it’s Brooklyn’s photography book in June). But it hasn’t been without
great personal sacrifice. Only last week the star admitted that she doesn’t have many close allies: ‘I don’t have a lot of friends… I’m very close to my sister and a friend I went to school with, and then three or four others,’ she said. It’s not surprising: Victoria’s already racked up thousands of air miles in the past three months, travelling to and from the US for business and taking holidays with her brood. But Vic’s never been one to dwell on her problems, saying she doesn’t ‘ever feel lonely’. ‘She’s proud of herself but she knows how many sacrifices she’s had to make – there’ve been a lot,’ says our source. ‘She has a very limited group of people she can really trust, which has been difficult, and she doesn’t get to really relax ever. I know she wouldn’t change anything, though.’ Still, we’re told that her OBE honour has made her reflect on how much she’s done and left her wondering about the future. ‘I think she feels like she’s reached the summit and now wonders what her new challenges could be,’ says our insider. ‘She’s absolutely thrilled to get the honour and wouldn’t change it for the world, but at the same time it’s really made her think about how she can set new challenges for herself when she’s reached such heights.’ We’re proud of you, Posh, but can you fit more on your plate? Maybe you just need some downtime…
V i c t o r i a Te l l s P a l a c e : ‘ I ’ m To o P o s h To P o s e ’
VB was apparently not keen to be snapped by the official photographer outside Buckingham Palace after the ceremony, unlike some of her fellow attendees. However, this shot (below) did appear on both Victoria and David’s social media accounts later… Something tells us she put hubby DB on Instagram duty instead. As if we’d expect anything else from VB.
Vic grins as she’s greeted by Wills at the Palace
F e e l i ng S h e e pi S h, Dav i D?
David received an OBE in 2003
While VB was picking up her award, things must have been mega-awkward for husband David. After all, it’s been just three short months since ‘Beckileaks’ – the scandal that erupted when leaked emails between the former footballer and his manager came to light. Among other things, the emails revealed David’s disappointment at not having received a knighthood, and that he’d called the Honours Committee – the very group who approved his wife’s OBE – ‘c**ts’. And while Victoria was clearly happy about receiving her honour, our source tells us that the issue of the emails was discussed. ‘Victoria definitely felt tense in the lead-up to the ceremony,’ says our source. ‘She was worried David couldn’t enjoy it as much.’ As for David, 41, he deliberately stayed in the background during the event itself. ‘He knew the day was all about Victoria and didn’t want anything to jeopardise that,’ says our source.

hile Victoria Beckham might be proud of the fact she’s transformed from a pop star into a global style icon, last week’s recognition of the huge impact she’s had on the fashion industry was a defining moment for the designer. Facing Prince William, Vic smiled as she stepped up to receive her honour and become Victoria Beckham OBE (or ‘VBOBE’ as we’re affectionately calling her now). We’re told it’s this nod from royalty that she sees as her biggest achievement so far. ‘It was an absolute pleasure to be at Buckingham Palace today,’

Master Plan
While we’re focused on the next royal wedding, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are staying under the radar CUTTING COMMITMENTS Talk about mysterious, Meg. Not only has Prince Harry’s girlfriend recently closed her beloved website The Tig, she’s also ended her contract with fashion brand Reitmans. According to our source, it’s all part of a bigger picture. ‘She’s got some huge plans and her schedule needs to be cut in half,’ says our insider. ‘It involves a big humanitarian project.’

THE wEddING INVITE
According to Look sources, the actress has asked for the week of 15-22 May off – the date of Pippa Middleton’s wedding. The catch? She’s only invited to the evening reception. ‘Of course Meghan is happy to be
joining Harry,’ reveals our insider. ‘She’s nervous, but in fact she’s going to be joining some of the other girls for an informal gettogether on the eve of the wedding. She’s determined to keep a low profile.’ Planning to catch the bouquet, Meg?
THE ENGAGEMENT Sources say Meghan, 35, and Harry, 32, are set to announce an engagement in the next couple of months. ‘The only thing stopping them is Pippa’s wedding,’ says our insider. ‘Announcing it before that would be hurtful, but it could be as early as June.’ In a recent interview, Harry mentioned he’d ‘love to have kids’, and Meghan was spotted last week with yet another piece of jewellery with Harry’s initials. You heard it here first, guys…
T h e Pe r f e c T Pa i r …
Megs might be planning a charity project, but it’s not the first time. She volunteered in Rwanda last year and visited India in January to learn about the issues women face in Delhi. We know humanitarian work is big on Harry’s agenda too. He recently teamed up with brother and sister-in-law Wills and Kate to work with Heads Together, a charity aimed at breaking the taboo @lookmagazine

surrounding mental health. Last week, Harry opened up about his own struggles, admitting: ‘I’ve probably been very close to a complete breakdown on numerous occasions.’ For Meghan, Harry’s charity work is said to be what attracted her to the prince in the first place. ‘Kindness is the number one quality I look for in a man,’ she said in 20. We couldn’t agree more… lookmagazineuk

ith summer just around the corner, we’re already being distracted from our work with thoughts of hazy beach days. And Louise Thompson isn’t exactly helping. The super-fit SW3 resident (currently starring on Made In Chelsea alongside her equally buff significant other, PT Ryan Libbey) is the new face of George at Asda swimwear, launching this week, and she’s giving us serious beach goals. The range includes swimsuits, bikinis and seriously lust-worthy accessories, all starting at a bargainous £8 – and Louise, 27, admits the new pieces are going to be perfect for her jam-packed summer of travel. ‘Ryan’s organised a yoga retreat in Greece for a long weekend because he knows I need to relax,’ she reveals. ‘I’m intending to be away for the whole of May after we wrap this MIC series. Then I want to spend June and July in LA, doing some work and meeting new people.’ Hmm, do we smell Hollywood on the horizon? Watch this space. Despite those incredible abs, Louise reveals that it’s taken a long time to feel confident in her style and body. ‘Some of the stuff that I used to wear genuinely upsets me,’ she tells us. ‘I don’t think it will ever come back into fashion.’ Oh Louise, we’ve all been there. Trust us, you look uh-mazing. The only problem we’ve got is, er, how do we pick a favourite bikini?

SwImmeRS How do you make your beachwear chic? Just ask Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. After all, she is a supermodel and has just designed her very first swimwear collection for M&S. You had us at helloÉ words: HannaH Banks-walker @HBankswalker

w
e have to credit Rosie HuntingtonWhiteley as the woman who made us want to buy nighties again. Banishing any thoughts of drab polyester numbers that turn grey after just one wash, she made M&S the go-to for sumptuous silk slips and elegant nightgowns crafted from French lace. Most importantly, of course, these luxe examples of nightwear still carried a high street price tag. Now Rosie’s bringing this magic to swimwear. With so much choice on the high street, it’s difficult to navigate the choppy waters (ahem) of string bikinis, tankinis and one-pieces. So we won’t be looking anywhere but M&S. ‘This is my first swimwear collection and I’m incredibly proud of it,’ says the supermodel. ‘The knowledge I’ve gained from developing my lingerie collections has been invaluable – and working alongside the M&S design team has been so fulfilling.’ These are some of the most flattering swimmers we’ve seen, too. Focusing on simple silhouettes that provide coverage and support where it’s needed, Rosie has added a final flourish in the form of gold hardware, subtle floral prints and halterneck details. There’s something for everyone, from one-shoulder swimsuits to floorsweeping kimonos, all available in sizes 8-18 and 32-40 A-E cup. And nothing is more than £55. After all, this isn’t just swimwear. It’s M&S swimwear. @lookmagazine

At Coachella Day 1 : Embellished Rope Braid Mollie says: ‘I love how the punk-inspired hair rings give the braid an edgy overhaul.’ Patrick Wilson, Ambassador for ghd, explains how to get Mollie’s look…
1
Apply a texturising powder to your locks to give the hair grip. Then create loose waves all over by placing your styler vertically into the root of the hair and twisting 360° as you push it through to the ends of your tresses.
2
Make a deep side parting and then add a rope twist braid to one side, taking two pieces of hair and twisting them in the same direction, then crossing over in the opposite direction. Gently pull apart the twist to loosen.

Finally, take the hair rings and place them at randomly chosen points throughout the rope braid to add embellishment to the look. Then set the look with hairspray.

shining. The acts are always amazing too, and when you walk into the festival and see the iconic Coachella wheel you know you’ve arrived. Who are your Coachella style icons and why? Sincerely Jules for sure – she’s my favourite fashion blogger. Rosie HuntingtonWhiteley always looks great too, and Olivia Culpo is my festival beauty icon – her skin is totally flawless and she always looks glam without looking too done. What’s your favourite
festival look this summer? I love floral fashion, and also adorned hair; whether that’s plaits or braids, temporary hair colour or hair rings, the bigger statement the better as far as I’m concerned. How do you prep beautywise for festival season? I try to do a face mask the day before so that my skin glows, and then my base can be kept quite natural. I make sure to have a spray tan too so my skin looks its best for the entire festival. Oh, and a good pedi is essential.
What are your top three tips for staying stylish throughout the madness of a festival? Wear comfortable shoes You don’t want to be the girl tottering about in stilettos. Always pack sunglasses Sunglasses always finish off a festival look. Let the hair do the talking I always put more effort into my hair than my make-up, especially at festivals. A standout hair look will stand the test of time, especially when my make-up’s melting in the heat. Like I said, I’m always wearing sunnies, so no one can see my face anyway…

Add volume to the roots by backcombing, then use fingers to pull hair back into a low ponytail and secure it with a hair elastic.

1
Blow-dry hair with a round brush then backcomb at the roots for extra volume.

Take medium sections of hair and curl in the same direction for a synchronisedlooking wave.

Add some grip to the hair with a texturising spray. Create a centre parting with a tail comb. Then make soft waves using a styler gently through your hair.
2
Create a triangular section from the parting to the crown and create a Dutch braid by taking sections from underneath as you plait the hair. Then secure with grips.

Chloe travelled to Japan to steal their beauty secrets...
Look’s Deputy Beauty Editor Chloe Burcham headed to Japan to discover the latest skincare trends heading our way. Here’s what you need to know… ‘Japanese women follow a “cleanse > warm > moisturise” skincare routine. Pretty much everyone uses a facial steamer – the warmth allows an increase of blood circulation and allows pores to open and products to penetrate deeper.

‘Foam cleansers are also a big deal. Spas in Japan use Panasonic’s EH-XC10Micro-Foaming Facial Cleansing Device [£149.99] to create micro foam from any cleanser. The warming make-up removal plate uses gentle heat to loosen make-up particles, while the cleansing brush creates foam with the softest bristles ever to give a deep and precise clean. The best news? It’s now available in the UK, too.’

Are You Being
breadcrumbed? They ‘like’ your photos and constantly ask to meet up – but it never happens. Oh dear, it could mean your friendship is toast…
.co.uk
‘Sometimes we overextend ourselves,’ says psychologist, friendship expert and author of thefriendshipblog.com Irene S Levine. ‘We have every intention of making the plan, but when it comes to it we just don’t have the time. Other people have a hard time saying no, so they lead friends on rather than disappointing them or making them angry.’ So why do we cling on to these flakers? Shouldn’t we just let them go? Rebecca Mill is a 23-year-old student from London who’s Breadcrumbed by her friend ‘I have a mate I was really close to before uni, but she went away for a couple of ski seasons. Now she’s back in the country, she actually lives really nearby, but she’s impossible to pin down. She sends the classic ‘Let’s meet for a coffee’ every few weeks, but when it comes down to meeting up, nothing materialises. She’ll either take weeks to reply or she’ll suggest meeting up that day. It’s almost as if she knows I won’t be able to. Sometimes I think I shouldn’t bother, but I miss her and
Social media has made the meaning of friendship murky
@lookmagazine
lookmag
I always hope she’ll change.’ Of course, no one is innocent here. Let’s be honest, for every Breadcrumber in your life is a girl you’ve Breadcrumbed yourself. ‘My friend Lucy* is a good laugh,’ says Anne Brethway, 26, a receptionist from Nottingham. ‘As she’s one of the only single people know, I just like going on nights out with her as my wingwoman. But in between, I guess I just “like” her social media photos and we don’t really see each other any other time, just when we go out on the pull. I kind of assume she feels the same about it, but I think actually I’ve just been Breadcrumbing her all along.’ It’s annoying, yes – but does it make your friend a bad person? After all, many of us are victim to busy lifestyles and hectic work schedules – and we all feel bad about letting go of mates. In fact, a whopping 83 per cent of us hold onto toxic friendships. ‘Some people feel better knowing they’re surrounded by a large cadre of “friends,”’ says Irene. ‘Social media has made the meaning of what it is to be a friend somewhat murky. Staying in touch on a superficial level may be enough for some, but in a sense it dilutes the meaning of friendship.’ Generation Flaky, it’s time we sorted ourselves out…
So Is Your Friendship Toast? Sign She’s an old schoolfriend you’ve known for years, but you’ve recently started working in the same city. Between you, you’ve arranged more than three meet-ups but she’s cancelled each one. ToaST? don’t write her off just yet. she might be going through a particularly busy period at work. try suggesting the date, place and time early on, so she has more time to plan ahead. the more specific you are, the better.
About to make yet another noncommittal commitment?
Sign You were inseparable at uni, but for the past year it’s just the odd Instagram comment or Facebook like. ToaST? it’s time you took a step back. while you want to make the friendship work, this isn’t a mate, this is just another person who ‘likes’ your pic as much as the next person. stop kidding yourself.

f you’ve ever been victim to a sinister breed of dater known as the Breadcrumber, we have some bad news: the menacing behaviour once reserved for Tinder time-wasters has evolved – and now our mates are throwing crumbs too. ‘Babe! How are you? Congrats on the new flat, let’s go for a drink soon?’ Sound familiar? How many times have you received this type of message in the last month? How many times have you actually ended up getting that drink? A quick poll of the Look office and for most of us, receiving a text like this is a weekly occurrence – usually in the form of a Facebook comment or a WhatsApp message, triggered by a big life event (often promotions, engagements, or just a decent selfie). Because along with dating apps, a penchant for brunch and the inability to claw ourselves onto the property ladder, there’s another fantastic characteristic of being a millennial: we surround ourselves by a specific pool of noncommittal ‘friends’, otherwise known as Breadcrumbers. Breadcrumbers usually present as old uni friends, mates you spent a season with in Napa circa 2010, or girls you know from school. The ones whose hair you held back every week. The one who was your first choice of ‘going-out friend’ during The Big Break Up Of ’09. They’re not your best mates, you might not have even known them for a long time, but at one point they were a huge – and very real – part of your life. These friends will comment on your social media and plan to meet up with you without ever confirming. Or text you out of the blue to say ‘You look great atm’, but it’s never going further than that. While it might feel like they don’t value your friendship, is that the entire picture?

hanel is always a good place to search for well-deserved treats and its new compact foundation doesn’t disappoint. Gliding onto the skin, the silk-like finish covers imperfections while making your complexion glow. Plus it’s the perfect size for your new 2.55 handbag (a girl can dream!). Competing with their designer buddy, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana are also setting beauty pulses racing, with Armani’s new Sunset Eye Palette – a perfect mix of metallic shadows that cover lids in the most exquisite way – and Dolce’s first colour and care lipstick line, which is sumptuous in shade range and formula. Feeling really indulgent? Our ultimate pick has to be Jo Malone’s New Rare Teas Collection, which contains precious teas deemed too valuable to drink. Encased for the very first time in six elegant scents, we want them all. Spare £960, anyone?

Your bout of badly behaved skin has finally met its match…
W
hat comes to mind when you think of acne solutions? Gels, toners, face washes, scrubs – there seem to be a million solutions, but anyone who suffers from bad skin knows how hard it can be to clear it for good, and it’s beyond difficult to know which products are right for your skin. Professional options are expensive and prescription formulas can be quite strong and come with nasty side effects. Getting results at home has always been notoriously hard – up until now, that is. Neutrogena is paving the way in blemish-busting treatments by taking technology to the next level with its new Visibly Clear Light Therapy Acne Mask. The first of its kind, it brings the clinically proven light therapy used by dermatologists to you, so you can use it whenever you want, wherever you want (probs while you’re chilling on the sofa), giving you total control over your complexion. It’s easier than having to use a load of different
products and it only takes up 10 minutes of your day, so it’s much quicker, too. Meet your new skincare saviour…
Refined skin without leaving your bed Meet the Mask How does it work, you ask? Whether you’re suffering from a few spots here and there or an acne breakout, it uses combined energy from the red and blue lights to zap zits and calm your skin. It’s completely safe and there are no side effects, so even the most sensitive of skins can use it. Each light treats the two main concerns that come with acne: the
blue light targets bacteria, while the red light brings down redness and inflammation in the skin. Together they are the perfect targeted treatment and you only need to use it for 10 minutes a day. Expect refined skin and a clearer complexion without even having to leave your bed.
5 steps to spot-Free skin
1) Cleanse your skin and make sure it’s thoroughly dry. 2) Plug the power cord into the activator. 3) Pop the mask on like you would a pair of glasses and hold down the button for a full second, until the lights come on. 4) Get comfortable, sit back and relax. You can wear your mask pretty much anywhere. 5) The mask will turn off automatically once your 10-minute treatment is up.
