Helping you feel safe in your lane. The 2017 Toyota Corolla’s standard Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS-P)1 is designed to help keep passengers safe with a suite of systems including Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist.2 This feature is designed to detect visible lane markers on the road, alert the driver if an inadvertent lane departure is detected and may also provide slight, corrective steering inputs to help keep the vehicle in its lane. With TSS-P’s Lane Departure Alert, you’ll feel greater peace of mind on the road.

Prototype shown with options. Production model may vary. 1. Drivers are responsible for their own safe driving. Always pay attention to your surroundings and drive safely. Depending on the conditions of roads, weather and the vehicle, the system(s) may not work as intended. See Owner’s Manual for additional limitations and details. 2. Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist is designed to read lane markers under certain conditions. It provides a visual and audible alert, and slight steering force when lane departure is detected. It is not a collision-avoidance system or a substitute for safe and attentive driving. Effectiveness is dependent on road, weather and vehicle conditions. See Owner’s Manual for additional limitations and details. ©2017 Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

“Since my kids have such a big age gap,” Holker (at home in L.A.’s Sherman Oaks) tells Us, “it’s important to make time for both individually.”

2

3

I’m a pretty easygoing mom,” says Allison Holker. “I find myself being a kid with my kids a lot of the time!” In March 2016, the mother of Weslie, 8, welcomed son Maddox with fellow So You Think You Can Dance vet Stephen “Twitch” Boss, 34. “I have a mini-me with Weslie,” she notes. “And I look at Maddox as Stephen’s mini-him. It’s kind of perfect.” The 29-year-old tells Us more.

Q: What do you do as a family? We try to eat dinner together every night. After 6 o’clock is family time. The thing we love to do is go into our kitchen, put on fun music, cook dinner and dance around. 28

| M AY

1, 2017

Q: Does Weslie help with Maddox? She is the most helpful big sister. She likes checking on him and asks to feed him. She honestly helps me do everything but bathe him, because I feel like that’s too hard. Q: What’s his personality like? He totally knows when he shouldn’t be doing something. If he’s going for something he’s not supposed to get into, like the dog food, he almost does the look-back at us, like, I know you’re about to come after me! Q: How do you and Twitch stay connected as a couple? We’re in bed by 9:30. That’s our cuddle time. Netflix and chill time.

1. “Stronger together,” Holker posted with a snap of Weslie from the Jan. 21 Women’s March in L.A. 2. “Stephen just lights up my kids’ lives,” says Holker (with the family Feb. 14). 3. Maddox (in January) “cracks himself up,” she says. “We have no idea why he’s laughing!”

Love in the valley: Selena Gomez, 24, and The Weeknd, 27, clung to each other in the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival’s VIP section in Indio, California, April 16. Joined by his friends, the singers — dating since January — snuggled and snacked on curly fries as fans snapped photos. “They’re really into each other,” a Gomez source tells Us, “and everybody on his side has embraced her.” Though his ex Bella Hadid, 20, has said their November breakup will “be hard for a while,” her glamorous trip to Dubai proved she isn’t fixating on the new couple. Janet Jackson gave the world a first look at her 3-month-old son, Eissa, when she shared a selfie on social media April 14. “The paparazzi were taking pictures of the baby, so she posted to get ahead of it,” a Jackson insider tells Us, noting that her estranged husband of nearly five years, Wissam Al Mana, was “totally cool with it.” RAISING EISSA The photo comes five days after sources confirmed Jackson had split with the Qatari billionaire, 42. (He wanted her to adhere to his strict Muslim traditions; she felt her art suffered for it, said a pal.) While they are coparenting, adds the insider, Jackson — who wants primary custody — is eager to get back to work: “They’re talking about what that would mean; her life is unconventional.” USM AG A ZIN E.COM

RX DISCOVERY A year after Prince died from an accidental fentanyl overdose at age 57, newly released search warrants reveal the extent of the legend’s addiction. According to the documents, investigators discovered controlled substances, including the painkiller Percocet, in the “Cream” singer’s Minnesota estate. Some pills in the name of Kirk Johnson, Prince’s bodyguard, were found in a suitcase tagged with the star’s alias Peter Bravestrong. Warrants also revealed Dr. Michael Schulenberg told officials that he prescribed painkillers under Johnson’s name to protect Prince’s privacy.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck finally filed for divorce April 13. “The time was right,” a source close to the couple tells Us of why the duo filed the court documents together nearly two years after announcing their split. “They are both happy with it. It’s entirely amicable.” The actress, 45, and Live by Night star, 44, requested joint custody of Violet, 11, Seraphina, 8, and Samuel, 5. As for the earnings from their 10-year marriage, since the pair do not have a prenup, according to the source, it will all be divided. Though Affleck still lives on the family’s L.A.-area property to help raise the kids, the Oscar winner will be moving. “Ben is looking close by so they can continue to coparent,” adds the source. “They’re focused on their kids.” So much so that three days after filing, the exes took their children to Easter mass together. or most commoners, getting through the private gates of Kensington Palace requires two forms of ID and a written invitation. Visitors to the sprawling London complex that houses dozens of royals, including Prince William, Duchess Kate and Prince Harry, undergo a thorough security check and “follow strict protocol,” says a frequent guest. But on any given day, one mere mortal simply breezes past the guards. Harry’s girlfriend, Meghan Markle, “is waived right through,” says a source. “Harry has made it clear she’s to be treated like everyone else who lives there.” Consider it step one in her royal transformation. With Harry’s pals expecting him to propose to the Toronto-based actress by fall, she has begun readying herself for life in The Firm, the cheeky name the royals have coined for their family. Though the 35-year-old divorcée hasn’t yet begun the official training Kate underwent leading up to her 2011 vows, Markle already has a direct line to Harry’s most trusted aides. The 32-year-old prince’s private secretary, Edward Lane Fox, and communications secretary, Jason Knauf, are on call

For now, however, her most critical education revolves around handling the attention that comes with dating Great Britain’s most eligible bachelor. Years before William presented commoner Kate with the 18-carat sapphire-and-diamond ring that belonged to his late mother, Princess Diana, she was shown video of Di elegantly exiting a car to a throng of eager photographers, for example, explains a royal insider, “so she would know how to deal with it.” Markle — who did guest spots on Castle and CSI: Miami before

landing a role on the USA legal drama — has already learned from her mistakes. Shortly after her then–months-long romance with Harry went public last fall, “she had photographers capturing her every move,” explains the Harry source. “She felt like smiling and being pleasant was the best way to be.” Unfortunately for her, adds the source, “people interpreted that as her loving the attention.” Now she keeps a neutral expression when snapped on the streets of London or heading to the gym in Toronto. Through conversations with Fox and Knauf, Markle has learned how to put her most polished face forward. “A lot of advice on handling her public affairs has come directly

OH, CANADA But sometimes there’s no place like home. When Harry flew to visit Markle in Toronto April 12 for a six-day stay — the first of many trips he has scheduled while she’s in town filming Suits’ seventh season — they decided to lie low, says a source. For the duo, nights in often mean whipping up dinner (Markle handles most of the cooking, says a source) or watching TV on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and some candy. Says a source close to the couple, “They love the The Great British Bake Off and SAS: Who Dares Wins.” Come late September, the twosome will make their very public debut in the Canadian city. It just makes sense.”

Losing Mom (in 1986) left a “gaping hole,” he said.

HARRY’S READY FOR KIDS In a revealing interview, Prince Harry admitted he sought therapy “more than a couple times” to cope with losing his mom at age 12. Attempting to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues, he told The Telegraph’s April 16 “Mad World” podcast that he experienced years “of total chaos” after Diana’s death. “Shutting down all of my emotions for the last 20 years has had a quite serious effect on not only my personal life, but my work as well,” he said. “I have probably been very close to a complete breakdown.” Boxing and talking about his feelings helped him get to a better place. Now, the six-time godfather told host Bryony Gordon, “I, of course, would love to have kids.”

Remember Princess Di with Us Weekly’s Diana: A Tribute to Her Life, on sale April 28.

Harry last year, the Northwestern University theater and international relations major “is ready to move away from acting,” says a Markle insider. She’s done with blogging too. On April 7, Markle shuttered her lifestyle website, The Tig, encouraging her followers to “keep laughing and taking risks” and never “forget your worth.” These days Markle is more interested in giving back than posting about food and travel. The World Vision global ambassador and U.N. Women advocate “is ready to take on new humanitarian opportunities,” says a friend. “If she wasn’t with Harry, I’m sure she would have found a way to balance the two, but being in a relationship with someone of his profile had made it somewhat difficult. It’s helped her come to the decision that she will focus purely on philanthropy.”

MARRIAGE MINDED Harry, meanwhile, is undergoing a rebirth of his own. Once known for party-boy antics (photos of him showing off the, er, crown jewels in Las Vegas surfaced in 2012), he’s now running the Heads Together charity with Will and Kate. In an interview with The Telegraph’s April 16 “Mad World” podcast, the ex–military officer opened up about an aggression that left him “on the verge of punching someone” (see box, left). Counseling helped him mature. “Because of this process,” he said, he has “been able to take [his] private life seriously . . . and been able to put blood, sweat and tears into the things that really make a difference.” That includes Markle. For Harry, “this is a love he’s never felt before,” says a source. “He’s met someone who understands him on a deeper level and they just connect.” Soon, predicts the source, they could be legally bonded. “Everything is still as exciting as the day they met,” says the insider. “They talk about the future all the time and they see  themselves together.”

the world who understand her exact situation.” The duke and duchess have shared their best wisdom on “keeping a low profile” around town, says the insider. Believe it or not, adds a palace source, “there are quite a few spots in London where no one will spot you or care if they do. William and Kate have several restaurants they like to eat at and Harry’s been able to pick up some tips.” Harry and Markle’s preferred eateries include casual sushi joint Kurobuta, rustic gastropub the Sands End and swanky members-only club Soho House, where mutual friend and consultant Markus Anderson introduced them last June. Says a source, “They enjoy going to restaurants and experiencing new places.”

ippa Middleton’s big day won’t have the pomp and circumstance of a royal affair. Duchess Kate’s younger sister, 33, who will wed her fiancé, financier James Matthews, May 20, is keeping the event “classic and elegant,” says an insider. “She doesn’t want it to be too expensive or look gaudy.” The socialite and 41-year-old London resident Matthews — together off and on since 2012 — will marry at St Mark’s Englefield, a picturesque stone church built in the 12th century, near her parents’ home in Berkshire, England. While Kate’s daughter, Charlotte, 23 months, and son,

George, 3, will serve as bridesmaid and page boy, respectively, Kate won’t have an official role or even do a reading at the church. “The sisters,” explains a source, “don’t want it to turn into a circus.” CELEBRATION TIME

After the vows, guests will travel approximately 6 miles to the Bucklebury home of Pippa’s parents, party supply company owners Michael Middleton, 67, and his wife, Carole, 62. Invitees, including Harry and Meghan Markle — who has reportedly asked for time off from filming Suits — will gather on the grounds of the 18-acre, $7 million country estate. The venue is perfect for Middleton and Matthews, says a source: “They just want as many loved ones together under one roof — or tent — as they can get!”

Kate (with George, William and Charlotte in September) will help with guests’ kids, says a source.

The Handmaid’sTale Under Tale’s totalitarian regime, police patrol the streets with militarized weapons, and women must simply shut up and bear children. That dystopian future propels this timely drama, an examination of class and gender roles based on the 1985 Margaret Atwood novel. With the birth rate 58

plummeting, the government rips fertile women from their families and forces them to serve as handmaids — glorified babymakers — for powerful men whose wives are unable to conceive. One of those servants, Offred (an affecting Elisabeth Moss), fearfully submits: A scene in which her master (Joseph Fiennes) rapes her while his wife (Yvonne Strahovski) shares the same bed may go down

as one of TV’s most disturbing. Yet Offred, driven by her need to reunite with her own daughter, never gives in to despair. It’s a powerful lesson in challenging the status quo, no matter how bleak one’s circumstances. “I know this must feel very strange,” government bully Aunt Lydia (a creepy Ann Dowd) tells new handmaids. “But this will become ordinary.” Frightening words, indeed. BRITT TAPS INTO HER BOSSY SIDE As Nasty Gal’s founder, Robertson offers a “true representation of twentysomething life” in Girlboss

G

oing from blonde to brunette to star in Netflix’s Girlboss (all 13 episodes streaming April 21) rendered Britt Robertson unrecognizable. “I would have to reintroduce myself and be like, ‘No, we grew up together,’” the 27-year-old tells Us. “I felt incognito.” Her character spends the comedy, based on ex–Nasty Gal CEO Sophia Amoruso’s book by the same name, discovering her identity. “Sophia is trying to figure out a way to be a successful adult,” says the South Carolina native, dating actor Dylan O’Brien since 2012. “She’s always having one success and then failing.” TAKE CHARGE Playing a young woman who turned an eBay shop

into an international fashion retailer gave Robertson her own definition of a Girlboss. “It’s not being afraid to take ownership of your life,” she says. “Just believing in something and putting your heart into it.” BEST DRESSED? While Robertson “loved the vintage feel” of Sophia’s wardrobe, the entrepreneur’s high heels left the actress in despair. “Being o those suckers 14 hours a day was tough,” she says. And the old cloth didn’t always hold up: “At a certain point, they were smelly and heavy.

Not only did she land her first starring role in a sitcom, a longtime goal, but she’d get to deliver such LOL one-liners as “Ivanka Trump . . . farted in my face at SoulCycle.” On the new NBC series (premieres April 25, 9 P.M.), Richie plays Portia, a news anchor whose freewheeling style rattles her staid cohost (John Michael Higgins). gunmen seeking rifles from South African arms dealers. In a typical genre flick, the shootout would be an epic climax; here, it’s a 90-minute set piece. And while the clever dialogue comes at a spitfire pace (a man covers his wound with cardboard, explaining, “It’s protection from infection!”), the brain-bursting violence exhausts quickly. As most of the bodies end up splayed on the floor, you’re left to wonder what the point is. Unless the point is to appreciate John Denver’s “Annie’s Song.” In that case, well done! MARA REINSTEIN

When [costar] Andrea Martin or John Michael says something, it’s hard to keep a straight face. But I didn’t want to be the person laughing so hard that I couldn’t do my job. Q: Portia is the pop-culture expert. Did you educate your older costars? We’re not who we are on the show, but yes. In one scene, Andrea had to say “Turn Down for What,” and she didn’t know what that meant, so I played her the [DJ Snake and Lil Jon] song, and we did a little dance. Q: Do your kids want to watch? They are very excited. They are old enough to appreciate it, but young enough where certain things will fly over their head. So I’ve kind of hit that sweet spot. EA

MUSIC OUT NOW

The Chainsmokers Memories . . . Do Not Open Was this necessary? Every few months, Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall fire off a glassy streaming cut that sticks to No. 1 like chewing gum to paper. So dropping a first proper album seems pointless. The EDM-pop duo merely tie together their current hits (i.e. the lucent “Paris” and Coldplay pairing “Something Like This”) with facsimiled stock beats, female cameos and Taggart’s anemic vocals. The painful Florida Georgia Line joint effort, “Last Day Alive,” only drags it down further. IAN DREW

Unforgettable’s psychotic ex-wife, 38, reveals her innocent truths to Us

4.

Tums got me through my pregnancy. 5. The toughest part about being a mom [of Naleigh, 8, Adalaide, 5, and Joshua, 4 months] is the mommy guilt. 6. My favorite shows are Doubt on CBS and This Is Us. 7. The thing I love most about my husband [musician Josh Kelley] is his positivity and amazing sense of humor. 8. The last time I laughed so hard I cried was yesterday. It’s pretty much always at Josh’s expense! 9. I just discovered Ina Garten’s spaghetti aglio e olio recipe. It took me 20 minutes to throw together, and it was delicious.

A special day with my girls entails taking them to brunch and knitting lessons! 11. I was starstruck when I talked to Shirley MacLaine. I spoke at the American Film Institute event honoring her in 2012, and we talked on the phone for, like, 10 minutes. 12. The most rewarding part about being a mom is the overflowing of love, purpose, laughter and joy my children have brought to my life.

13. My favorite animal on my ranch near Park City, Utah, is probably Hamlet the pig. 14. Not a day goes by when I don’t say at least five things I’m grateful for. When I forget, I swear the day is just a little less wonderful. 15. The oldest thing I own is a T-shirt my brother got me from his college in the early ’90s. I keep it because I remember how much it meant to me. 16. A few of my shoes from State of Affairs somehow ended up in my closet. Not sure how that happened! 17. My guilty pleasure is the occasional romance novel.

18. If I’m going to eat fast food, I’ll go to McDonald’s for a Big Mac and fries. 19. As a kid, my most treasured possessions were my baby doll, Jenny, and my teddy bear, PR, who now lives with the girls. I’m waiting for him to disappear, and then I’ll know he was like the Velveteen Rabbit and came to life! 20. I’d love to be a novelist. 21. My go-to karaoke song is “I Wanna Be Your Lover” by Prince. 22. Apps I use most on my phone: MealBoard, for grocery and meal planning, and Amazon for everything. 23. Sometimes I believe in fate. Sometimes I don’t. 24. My favorite movie is the comedy-drama Steel Magnolias. 25. I want to teach my kids to be courageous and compassionate, and to pursue their dreams. To choose joy, love and laughter every day. Now ask me how the hell I’m going to do that!

THINGS YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME

1. The best part about playing the villain in Unforgettable was the freedom to be bad with zero consequences. 2. A teenage girl who recently started watching Grey’s Anatomy asked me if I was Izzie Stevens’ mother. That one hurt! 3. I’m into crafting. I just figured out a pattern for a chunky knit beanbag cover that looks amazing.
