Food maker breaks ground in Villanueva
During the 1st Equator Asia Air Access Forum and Airline CEOs Summit, executives of Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, MASWings, SEA Air, and Midsea Express have expressed their respective concerns in taking on the BIMP routes, specifically infrastructure support, market availability, and cost of doing business. The airline summit served as a venue for all
players and stakeholders of the airline and travel industries to discuss and thresh out strategic recommendations aimed at improving air connectivity within the sub-region. Of the three concerns raised, business cost was considered the most pressing issue, considering that addressing it would require policy interventions. In the meantime, Under-
secretary of Transportation and Communications Jose Perpetuo Lotilla reassured industry players that the Philippines is currently working on improvements to facilitate more flights from the country to other BIMP destinations. “We need to come up with the right regulations and infrastructure, and we are happy to say that these are already being demonstrated. BUTUAN City––The Department of Health revealed that while there is a steady reduction in both the number of malaria cases and deaths in the country, 57 out of 80 provinces are still malaria endemic with some 14 million people at risk of contracting the deadly disease. The DOH made the disclosure to commemorate the World Malaria Day last week with the theme: “Sustaining Gains, Saving Lives and Investing in Malaria.” In a press statement, the DOH said that owing to the government’s intensified campaign, six provinces are expected to be declared malaria-free this year that will bring the total of malaria-free provinces to 29. These provinces are Batanes, Abra, Quirino, Romblon, Misamis Occidental and Dinagat Islands. AREAS/PAGE 2
