THE city government has started to extend cash assistance to ‘Sendong’ victims with the release of about P10 million, city hall officials said. City Administrator Griscelda Joson said that an initial P4 million was released as cash assistance to families who lost their loved ones on the Dec. 17 tragedy. Disaster agencies had recorded about 600 people died in the aftermath of Typhoon Sendong while more than 500 people remained missing to this day. OZAMIZ CITY -- The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) in Ozamiz has warned the people in the coastal areas of the city to take precautionary measures against possible rise in coastal waters. The warning was issued based on the 24-hour public weather forecast issued at 5:00 a.m., Feb. 14 by the operations center of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). The NDRRMC advisory said the Easterlies is affecting the Eastern section of the country and that a low pressure area (LPA) was estimated at 1,200 km. east southeast of Southern Mindanao. The advisory also said that the LPA is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility in the next 24 hours and that Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
