A Dinner Dance to celebrate
NENE GABOR BARTOLOME'S 80th BIRTHDAY
June 9-10, 2012
P10.00
Recent Socials of Various Personalities (R.S.V.P.) by Nena Neri Hernandez
With Pastor Melchor Jandayan from San Francisco, CA. and Dr. & Mrs. Manny Llanillo & grandson John Paul Ll. Romero & Son-in-law Noel.
With Ditas Velez dela Fuente, Carol Neri, Nena Hernandez, Yoling Roa Malferrari, Lulu Benepayo and daughter Tina. Teary eyed mommy as she was surprised a sewing machine design birthday cake greeted her.
with her daughter BAMBI, an Event's Specialist, the dinner was served on the dot! And a short program followed before ballroom started. The program, emceed by Ms. DONNA OCAMPO, ABS-CBN Marketing Head, and a very close friend of celebrant's daughter BAMBI, was short but sweet and was very professional but --a very young boy, JHON PAUL ROMERO, stole the show with his rendition of “Usahay” complete with his hand gestures, his facial expression, his voice when it reaches a high note, his interpretation of the song is just amazing. His stage presence as a whole, for a young boy his age, is most impressive! Later, when I was requested to sing, I felt insecure! He was so good for his age; singing after him was hard to get the attention of the crowd! He certainly has the charisma and the voice. Another young and talented young man who played the guitar was the grandson of TELO ABERASTURI and TILLIE VELEZ and it's so much fun watching the faces of the grandmas. MILA LLANILLO, who happens to be the grandma of JHON PAUL forgot where she was and sang and even stood up when the song reached a high note. The little boy really took after his grandma and his mom MONET (Sorry to say this grandpa MANNY and Dad CARLO). Now, about the celebrant, 'NENE 'who was married to the late P/Col. ALONZO QUIEM BARTOLOME from Tarlac is a very private person. She spends her time painting (hand painting) she sews well! No wonder her birthday cake had a very well made replica of a sewing machine! She was a school teacher in Home Economics at the City Central School. The only organization she joined is the Legion of Mary, religious that she is. No wonder the relatives of the late ADEN, came all the way from Tarlac to be with her a gesture of love and respect coming from the in-laws. Gen. NICANOR BARTOLOME is a nephew of her late husband so grandson ERROL BARTOLOME and daughters YEYE BARTOLOME SAN MIGUEL, JAJA BARTOLOME and granddaughter, MAJA came all the way from Tarlac. From Manila came MIGUEL and RAFAEL BARTOLOME and FRANCO BARTOLOME. Among the guests that I saw were LILY MARFORI, LETTY YAP, DAYLIT FABRIGAS, ELY GABOR, ZENY TURNER, ANALISA CANALES, ALDEN BACAL, CARING GARCIA, ISABEL WAGA, LEONOR SANTIAGO, GEORGETTE AWA, GLORIA DELGADO, LETTY and CHARLIE CEPEDA, BOBBY LEE, MACOY and AMY MALFERRARI MENTONG and MAY FERNANDEZ, MANNY and NINI CRISOSTOMO, KAYO and LYRA GABOR, MARICHU PALOMARES, JUSTIN PALOMARES, REY and ORLA TABLAN, and many others.
With the Marforis: Joyce & Dr. Popoy Marfori, Kangking Marfori, Jenny Marfori Dy & equally beautiful daughter Dindi.
With Bill & Nena Soriano, Anita Karagdag & Grandchildren Kate & Alexis and Lily Waga Raypon.
Mommy with grandson Carlo, daughter Bambi, son-in-law Noel and (seated) grandsons from Manila Rafael & Miguel Bartolome-Franco
Nene with John Paul Llanillo Romero, son of Dr. Carlo & Monette Llanillo Romero. John Paul serenaded the celebrant with his song “Usahay”.
With only loving sister Jellie Gabor Velez & younger brother Victor “Boboy” Gabor.

Fate of abducted Sino ore traders unknown • Police and military facing blank wall ZAMBOANGA CITY– Police and military authorities here are still facing blank walls on suspects in the abduction of two Chinese iron ore traders in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay last Monday.
Congressman Rufus B. Rodriguez shares his thoughts on House Bill 3469 (AN ACT REQUIRING ALL REGISTERED VOTERS WHOSE BIOMETRICS HAVE NOT BEEN CAPTURED TO APPEAR BEFORE THE ELECTION OFFICER OF THEIR PLACE OF REGISTRATION FOR PURPOSES OF HAVING THEIR PHOTOGRAPHS, FINGERPRINTS AND SIGNATURES CAPTURED THROUGH THE METHOD OF BIOMETRICS, FOR PURPOSES OF ENSURING THAT THE AUTOMATED FINGERPRINT IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM (AFIS) CAN BE UTILIZED TO CLEANSE THE RECORDS OF DOUBLE OR MULTIPLE REGISTRANTS) of which he is one of the main authors during the Committee on Suffrage meeting on said bill. He filed the bill in order to help modernize our election process and in order to help cleanse the voter’s list which is filled with flying voters, double entries and even ghost voters. The bill was already approved on third reading and was transmitted to the Senate.

This came about as no one has yet claim responsibility over the abduction. Besides, the registered owner of the recovered getaway vehicle used by the suspects turned out to be fictitious, a police official said. The victims identified as Nem Lin Yuankal, 38; and Jian Luo, 43, were seized by six armed men from their rented home at around 10 p.m. Monday in Barangay F. L. Peña, Kabasalan town, Zamboanga Sibugay. The victims, who are into iron ore trading, have been
in and out of Barangay F.L. Peña, Kabasalan municipality for more than a year now, authorities said. Kabasalan police chief Senior Insp. Jorge Paiden said that no one has claimed responsibility over the incident. Paiden disclosed that the identity of the owner of the suspects’ getaway vehicle, a white hi-ace van with plate number WTE606, has turned out to be fictitious or non-existent. The vehicle, which the suspects burned, was recov-
ered on the shores of Sitio Olingan, Barangay Salipyasin, Kabasalan town, he said. Paiden said a check with the Land Transportation Office (LTO)here showed the vehicle was registered in the name of Ajijol Hawa Alih, a resident of Mayor Jaldon Street, Dipolog City. However, Paiden said that further verification with the Commission on Elections showed that the name of the person as well as the home address turned out to be non-existent. Police, in coordination with the military, continue to locate the victims’ whereabouts and are also trying to establish identity of possible suspects. Paiden said. WITH WIRE REPORT

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said that the trial depends on the judge handling the case and all the administration could do is to call to hasten the process and immediately serve justice where it is due. Lacierda also noted that the expeditious resolution of the case could show to the world the country’s seriousness in serving justice to the victims. Akbar-Hataman settles decade old family feud Acting Regional Governor Mujib Hataman said resolving family disputes which have run for years in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi is one of the ARMM’s priorities. He said there can be no genuine development in conflict-affected communities. Hataman was glad that the decade-old armed and bloody conflict between the Akbar clan in Basilan
and his family had finally ended. ‘I have to clean my home so I can be an effective peacemaker among warring Muslim clans in the region,’ Hataman told reporters here. His mission is to settle at least the serious family feuds involving political leaders before next year’s elections. He said most of the unresolved family feuds are found in Lanao del Sur which both the local
officials and military were trying to settle amicably, to no avail. The Hatamans and Akbars, led by acting Gov. Hataman, and Basilan Governor Jum Akbar, respectively, signed a peace covenant that ended more than a decade of animosity. Both the Akbars and Hatamans are influential political clans in Basilan. The acting governor was almost in tears as his family reunited with erstwhile political allies. It was Hataman’s initiative that a peace pact be signed not only by the Akbars and Hatamans but all other political leaders

A Sinking Ship THINK a minute… Imagine we are on a large ship out on the ocean. The captain knows that there is a hole in the boat and we’re sinking, but he does not tell us passengers. Instead, he invites us all to go up to first class. All the beer and liquor is free. We’re allowed to party and do basically anything we want on the ship. Naturally, we passengers are loving our freedom. But all the time we’re partying and getting drunk, the ship continues to sink. Each minute brings us closer to our death. So what? Let’s eat, drink and be merry for we’re all going to die anyway, right? We might as well go out in style and have fun while it
Jhan Tiafau Hurst lasts. This is actually the way many people live. They think they’re free—through alcohol, drugs, sex with anyone they want, cheating for more money or status, and anything else that makes them feel good for awhile. But their life is a sinking ship! Instead of being truly free, they’re actually slaves to their own appetites and
uncontrolled physical desires for pleasure. Their life is empty and they’re desperately trying to fill it with all kinds of pleasures, prosperity, or power. Yet, even though they know in their conscience that none of these things satisfy them for long, they keep doing it. Jesus Christ did not come to bring us a lot of strict,

As the Maker of life, Jesus’ commands are simply life’s principles for real satisfaction and success. His ways are like wings to a bird or sails to a ship. So why not finally get yourself free from your uncontrolled physical pleasures or greed? Just ask Jesus to forgive you and start changing you daily. Traversing the Tourism Hi-wy Ped T. Quiamjot There has to be rules and awards of damages where all airlines in the Philippines should follow. The Philippine’s air carriers have expanded in the last 9 years with new players coming up to challenge the low cost and no frills airlines in the business. Government has encouraged the emergence of new investors and acquisitions of new aircrafts to the opening of more domestic and international routes which has recently added air traffic and airport congestions to our premier airports in the national capital region long been suffering from airport dysfunction. With the introduction
of the airlines promo and ticket sales, travel by air has expanded to a wider range of the air travelers market. The airlines periodic promotional ticket sales results to over booking and shortage of seats and aircraft overweight are endangering safety. It has also caused overcrowding of air traffic lanes and airport runways leading to f light delays. The airline industry has universal rules governed by the International Air Travel Association (IATA) where all governments of the world are signatories and are bound in the Geneva Convention to observed passengers protection and upholding the rights of air travelers for
compensation as a result of accidents or reckless imprudence resulting to loss of lives, injuries or losses through f light delays and baggage mishandling. New policies must be back up by laws of public convenience in order to restore foreign confidence in the stability of air travel in this country which we need to overhaul if we need to attract more visitors to come and have some fun in the Philippines. In many airports of our country, we have witnessed and seen on national television screens incidents of passenger’s outcry and outburst over delayed flights lasting for many hours causing discomfort to older passengers and young travelling children. Many are left to fend for themselves the hunger and exhaustions setting on the airport lounges. No food or hotel accommodation to offer since according to airline counter personnel, they are “low cost and budget QUIAMJOT/PAGE 7
Sin Has Consequences The New Generation Alex A. Podador relying on his own wits, David made a second effort, inviting Uriah to the palace for dinner. After much wine, David was sure that he would go home to his beautiful wife for the night. The Hittite’s loyalty and patriotism proved too much for David’s scheming. He again slept at the place entrance, forsaking the marital comfort of his home.
Sinking deeper into sin, David resorted to more sinister measures to cover his crime. He sent Uriah back to war with a letter for Joab setting the stage for murder. At David’s direction, Joab sent Uriah to the front line and drew back, leaving him to be killed by the enemy. Back in Jerusalem, Bathsheba mourned her husband for the customary amount
of time, and David made her his wife. Their baby boy was born. David had successfully concealed his sin from the people of Jerusalem, but he should have known; nothing is hidden from God. God rebuked him through Prophet Nathan telling him of the coming consequences of the sin David had committed. David right away realized his sin against God and repented to God. The Lord saw his heart and gave him the forgiveness he asked for. However, even when we are forgiven, sin brings consequences. David would receive the consequences of his. PODADOR/PAGE 7

However, Sieber said that he is “not at liberty to say a lot more” about the continued efforts be-
ing undertaken for the safe recovery of the captives citing the “sensitivity” of the incident. “We are doing everything that we can, the Philippine authorities are doing everything in their part in trying hopefully in the resolution of this kidnapping,” Sieber disclosed. After coming down to a two-game winning stre ak for t he Miami Heat, the Celtics scored a winning streak at 3-2 on Game 5. ‘We had an opportunity to take a leap, but we didn’t,” forward LeBron James said told sports writers after losing Thursday’s Game 5. Prior to Game 6, the SunSentinel quoted LeBron James as saying ‘We have to go up to Boston and win a game. It’s either win or go home.’ Now, everyone is anticipating a ‘home court’ advantage for the Heat in today’s play-off at the American Airline Arena. Will that happen? Sports analyst covering the NBA feared that the Heat knew that history is not on their side: Teams that have won Game 5 of best-of-seven NBA series tied 2-2 had gone on to win 83.5 percent of such series (137-27). There would be a continual strife in his lifetime. The immediate penalty would be the death of the boy born to David and Bathsheba. When the boy became ill, David fasted, prayed and mourned. When the baby died, David changed his clothes, ceased his mourning, comforted Bathsheba and went on with his life humbly accepting the Lord’s discipline. Bathsheba and David committed sin that called for their death by Israel’s law, but God forgave them. Even those of us who love the Lord with all our heart, will sin. The Bible gives us the assurance that, when we do, we can go to Him, confess our sin, and say, as David did, “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love, according to your great compassion. Romans 6:23 says that the penalty for sin is death, but Jesus Christ paid that penalty for us. Believe in Jesus Christ, acknowledge your sin and ask forgiveness. We have a loving and merciful God.

The BLMI was created during the 14th Exploratory Talks held in Kuala Lumpur on November 14-15, 2007, under the previous Arroyo administration. The government poured P6 million as help for the leadership institute. The Asia Foundation, the Development Academy of the Philippines, the Asia Institute of Management, and the Non-Violent Peaceforce also extended help by funding or conducting various skills and capacity-building train-

Manansala said they already released 5,000 tickets for the free live viewing of the fight at the city gymnasium in Barangay Lagao here. “The tickets will guarantee reserved seats inside the gym,” he said. He said they tapped the
city’s 26 barangay councils to facilitate the distribution of the free tickets, which local residents may avail of on a “first come, first served” basis. Manansala said the gymnasium will open at 8 a.m on Sunday for the live telecast–starting from the undercards to the main event. For residents who failed to avail of the free tickets, he said they will set up television sets outside the gymnasium to accommodate them. Aside from the city government, the barangay councils of Apopong and Labangal here will also be offering free the live tele-
casts of the fight at their barangay gymnasiums. In Sarangani, officials of the province’s congressional district office said a free live telecast of the PacquiaoMosley fight will also be beamed at the provincial capitol gymnasium. Several restaurants, entertainment establishments and shopping malls in the city are also offering live viewing of the PacquiaoBradley bout for fees ranging from P50 to P400. In nearby Koronadal City, a mall offered as shopping freebie tickets for a live viewing of the fight at the South Cotabato Gymnasium and Cultural Center. WITH WIRE REPORT
Nadal faces Ferrer in semis French Open • Nadal bids as the first to win seven French Open titles DEFENDING champion Rafael Nadal beat fellow Spaniard Nicolas Almagro 7-6 (74), 6-2, 6-3 on Wednesday to set up a semifinal clash with David Ferrer at the French Open. Against the 12th-seeded Almagro, Nadal saved four break points to dominate the match, especially in the last two sets. “It’s a difficult match,”
he told reporters.”You play against the best players of the world and one of the best players of the world on this surface.” Nadal, whose only loss at Roland Garros came at the fourth round in 2009, is bidding to become the first player to win seven French Open titles, moving him out of a tie with Swedish legend Bjorn Borg.
The second seed will in the semifinals meet his countryman David Ferrer, the sixth seed, who outgunned fourth seed Andy Murray of Britain 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 6-2. “He had his chances and converted them. He’s solid and consistent and if you don’t convert opportunities against him, the games become longer
and the pressure builds on you,” said Murray, who had reached the semifinals in the last five Grand Slams. The other semifinal will be played between top seed Novak Djokovic and third seed Roger Federer.
