Created by SP Ordinance No. 3842-2012, the committee is tasked, among others, with prosecution of cases involving trafficking in persons, effecting the cancellation of licenses of local businesses and establishments which violate the provisions of Republic Act No. 9208 or the “AntiTrafficking in Persons Act of 2003, and inspection, in coordination with proper authorities, of houses, buildings or business establishments suspected of being used for trafficking activities.

Named respondents in the DOJ resolution, aside from the former Palawan governor, were Mayor Mario Reyes Jr. of Coron, Palawan; Atty. Romeo Seratubias, Arturo Regalado, and Percival Lecias.

It can be recalled that last year, the DOJ dismissed the case against Reyes; former Marinduque Governor Jose Carreon; Mayor Reyes, Seratubias, Regalado and Lecias.

However, DOJ Secretary Leila De Lima ordered a reinvestigation of the case after Ortega’s widow, Dr. Patria Ortega, submitted additional evidence to support the charges against the accused.

“Raising the incomes of our farmers and fisherfolk is key to improving their quality of life and ensuring sustainable agricultural practices,” Pangilinan says.

“When sixty percent of our population enjoys a viable livelihood and more disposable income, this will have a direct impact on many of our other sectors and industries.”

He adds, “The direct participation of women in agricultural enterprises will mean added income for them and greater productivity for the sector as a whole.”

“Ensuring the sustainability of our agricultural sector will be key to achieving developed-nation status in 15 years.”

Aggie dep’t. confers with LGUs OZAMIZ City, Misamis Occidental – WITH the intent to accelerate the government’s thrust of sustainable development, which is characterized by attaining food security and self-sufficiency, the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10) recently hosted a consultation with the various local government units (LGUs) of the province.

The session was held in Ozamiz City, participated by almost all of the 14 municipalities and three component cities of the province. Participants varied from planning officers, municipal agriculturists, agricultural technicians and other stakeholders within the agricultural sector.

With the gathering at hand, it is expected that a finer scheme in terms of planning, organizing, decision-making and other pertinent activities will be employed in the implementation of the department’s supported programs, projects and interventions as the prime responsibility and the

allocation of resources are raked in according to the proponent’s needs from the local level.

The meeting tackled on the pipelined services of the agency offered under the four banner programs (rice, corn, livestock and high value crops), including that of organic agriculture and integrated pest management. These differ from production support, market development services, postharvest facilities and farm mechanization assistance, education and training services, regulatory services and among others.

Through the consultation, it was likewise learned that some of the agency’s programs, projects and interventions already have projected beneficiaries.

Nonetheless, the department clearly emphasized that they would only be given the first priority in the awarding of assistance.

In any case that an LGU would fail in complying the required documents, the agency will opt to extend its services to other interested

LGUs who’ve submitted a letter of intent to avail any support from the department’s end.

In his message, Provincial Agriculturist Jose L. Satorre reminded the representatives of the various municipalities to empower themselves through the submission of project proposals so as to elicit necessary aid from the department, that would in turn, contribute to the advancement of the agri-sector in their respective areas of responsibility.

Meanwhile, DA-10 Regional Technical Director Engr. Roxana H. Hojas encouraged the LGUs, specifically those who haven’t liquidated the funds released to them yet to carry on in devising project proposals while also working on the essential reports of previous transactions made with the agency. Additionally, she stressed that project proposals should harmonize with that of the province’s agricultural development plan.

PRO 13 gears up for disaster-related operations

CAMP Rodriguez, Butuan City – Some 100 police officers, belonging to various rescue teams of the Police Regional Office 13 (PRO-13), have successfully hurdled the three-day training on Disaster, Search, Rescue and Relief Operation (DSRRO), recently.

Designed by the Police Community Relations Group (PCRG), the activity was aimed at enhancing the skills of the participants in water search and rescue, collapsed structure and first aid, they being the frontliners during disasters and calamities.

The course was in adherence to the Chief PNP’s Ten-Point Action Plan of developing or enhancing the competencies, skills and specializations of police personnel other than investigation and resource management.

It was also inspired by Sun Tzu, “The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy’s

not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him, not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather on the fact that we made our position unassailable” .

The closing ceremonies held here was graced by P/ Director Rey L. Lañada of the Human Relations Doctrine and Development, who emphasized the importance of preparation for whatever given mission.

He also lauded the PRO 13, headed by P/Supt. Reynaldo S. Rafal, for keeping his men and women readily available to serve the people in times of crisis.

The program was highlighted by a competition among the participating rescue teams, distribution of rescue equipment to provincial police offices and the Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) and awarding of deserving PNP personnel involved in search and rescue operations in different parts of Caraga Region. Miriam Defensor Santiago is going to vote in favor of Chief Justice Renato Corona, what with her publicized statements saying the congressmenprosecutors bungled their presentation of evidence in support of the articles of impeachment against the magistrate.

Business sees more economic expansion A VAST majority of businessmen in the country believes that the domestic economy will grow better this year than the 3.7 percent growth recorded in 2011, according to a survey conducted by the Makati Business Club showed.

The MBC Executive Outlook Survey was conducted from February 14 to 19 this year wherein 93 members or 12 percent of out of 734 total MBC membership responded to the survey.

There were only 11.8 percent of businessmen surveyed who feel the same level of investment inflow as last year and only 5.4 percent believe investments would be lower than last year.

The business community, however, remains pessimistic about exports as only 33.3 percent believe exports to grow higher than last year’s 67.2 percent.

About 40.9 percent of those surveyed said exports would perform the same level as that of last year while 20.4 percent said they feel exports would be lower this year than 2011.

Business sentiment on exports was dampened by the 6.9 percent drop in merchandize exports in 2011.

On the employment sector, 61.3 percent said they will hire more people this year compared to only 37.3 percent in February 2011. pna
