MALAYBALAY City––The purchased of Komacho-brand payloader and a backhoe by the provincial government of Bukidnon was allegedly overpriced ––and were all surplus, said Bukidnon Vice Governor Jose Ma. Zubiri Jr., quoting reports from some provincial employees. “Valencia City has purchased two units of Komacho exactly the same of what has been purchased by the province. And the price is only P5,600,000. Why is it that the province paid P8,200,000.00?” Zubiri asked. But Governor Alex Calingasan said the two units of Komacho allegedly purchased by Valencia City

MNLF’s creates parallel govt in M’nao ‘Go Hermie’ team By CRIS DIAZ, Associate Editor
THE SUPER-NGO (nongovernment organization proposed by the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) is not a threat to the established government, Presidential Adviser on
the Peace Process Teresita Quintos-Deles said. She said the proposed ‘super NGO’ will only monitor the reforms and development programs in the Autonomous Region in Muslim
Mindanao (ARMM). Deles made the clarification in response to a published report that the MNLF, headed by its founding chairman Nur Misuari, is mulling the establishment of a “parallel government.” “I have not read Misuari’s statement, but the Government has long agreed to partner with the MNLF in the ongoing governance reform of the ARMM,” Deles added. Deles said that ‘if the MNLF is considering form-
ing an NGO that will monitor the reforms, advocate a legislative agenda, and undertake or cooperate in development programs for the ARMM, we have no problem with that. We would, in fact, welcome it.’ In a speech during the 2nd Ad Hoc High Level (AHHL) Group Meeting in Bandung, Indonesia last March 1, Deles reiterated the Aquino government’s resolve to complete the peace process with the MNLF. Nature-friendly farming reaps sweet bounty For Mt. Kitanglad Agri-Ventures Inc., nothing is sweeter than bananas that have been grown using eco-friendly farming methods. Sweet bounty indeed. Conscientious is the word that best describe Mt. Kitanglad Agri-Ventures, Inc. (MKAVI), a company committed to practicing sustainable agriculture in the production of bananas for export. It is one of the first two Better Banana Project/ECO-OK certified farms in the Philippines given by the Rainforest Alliance last April 2002, a New York-based NGO dedicated to the conservation of the world’s tropical forests. Its’ commitment to ecologically sound farming practices ensures better environment not only for the people and farmers of Mt. Kitanglad, but also to its more famous residents, the nearly extinct Philippine monkey-eating eagle and some 16 species endemic only to Mindanao. MKAVI also extended its social responsibility to its surrounding communities by providing development programs and livelihood opportunities for about 1,000 people and more than 700 families through its Mt. Kitanglad Agri-Venture MultiPurpose Coopertive (MOKAVECO). MKAVI aims to be “100% organic banana farm in the next 5 years”, a dream that is not far-fetched, given all the plans and programs already being drawn up today. Examples of such programs are the state of the art drip irrigation system adopted from Israel; organic composting and green manuring; waste treatment facilities; and construction of contour canals and check dams. MKAVI’s highland bananas are marketed under the brand name “Chiquita” to Japan, the Middle East, and China, with Japan accounting for 63% of total sales. As part of its marketing strategy, MKAVI regularly meets with its customers and tours them to the plantation to gain their trust and confidence, as well as to show buyers their commitment to the best banana farming techniques. For being one of the first two Philippine companies certified for using sustainable agriculture methods in producing export quality bananas, a 2002 GSA Special Citation is given to Mt. Kitanglad Agri-Ventures, Inc. Mt. Kitanglad Agri–Ventures Inc. began launching community development programs in 2008 and has since implemented 28 community projects. These include programs in social infrastructure, livelihood and skills training, short term courses on animal dispersal, the set up of health and sanitation facilities, and educational programs in several municipalities in the provinces of Bukidnon and Lanao del Sur. These projects were conceived and managed in collaboration with local governments and NGOs. Part of its corporate social respnsibility, Mt. Kitanglad Agri-Ventures, Inc. (MKAVI), r has engaged in helping indigent schools for reading materials. Recently, it donated 6 pieces of coffee table books on the Philippines and its natural resources plus 40 pieces of textbooks on Science to its adopted school Alanib Elementary School. Alanib Elementary School is one of the average performing schools in Bukidnon. The school’s latest MPS is at 59.42%, with Science as the lowest at 40.2%. Thus, the donation concentrated on providing 40 Science textbooks for its Grade 6 class to help improve their performance on the subject. In addition to the Science textbooks, the teachers also requested for reference materials on the Philippines. Given the mountainous terrain of the area, hardly can the students have access to the city library thus limited access on books regarding Philippine culture.

life was to pay the penalty for all our sins. God the Son came to save us from suffering in hell forever, even though it cost Him His own divine life. You see, we can’t say we believe Jesus Christ spoke the truth about some things, but that He lied about other things like hell. He can’t be God and be a liar too. Remember, since God is perfectly good and pure, it’s simply not possible for Him to live together with any kind of wrong or evil.
Otherwise, He wouldn’t be God! Just like light and darkness cannot be in the same place together. But if we want God to leave us alone, He will. After all, He’s the One Who gave us our freedom to choose in the first place. He will ne ver force us to love Him and live the way He created us to enjoy. Jesus said that even though our body dies, our soul will live forever—either in heaven or in hell. So it’s up to us to choose whether we want Jesus’ gift of forgiveness and way of living, or our own way. Heaven or hell. But you’re the only one who can send yourself to hell, because God’s already done ever ything He possibly can so you don’t go there. The choice and risk is yours. Just Think a Minute.

political rivals. Politics in the Philippines started even before the Spaniards came. Along the way, we found out that traditional politics remains. Although the advent of high tech communication paved the way to the introduction of fast, reliable and efficient information gathering and dissemination, the principles of traditional politics barely changed. That traditional politics exemplified by Dr. Jose Rizal’s ‘El Filibusterismo’ and ‘Noli Me Tangere’ novels remain the epitome of today’s Philippine politics. In both novels, Rizal wrote about the excesses of the Church and its influence on the lives of the Filipinos. The novels defined the politics of submission and denials. The characters of ‘El Fili and Noli’ during the Spanish regime still depict modern day Philippine politics. These characters are also endemic in local communities particularly in Cagayan de Oro City. In Cagayan de Oro, over-zealous politicians exacerbate the city’s hideous political condition. It is of public knowledge that there are politicians (disgraced and ambitious) who tried to intimidate the people even in tragic moments. This happened at the height of Typhoon Sendong while people mourn with the lost of their loved ones. Although modern day Filipinos try to rise above loathsome politics, it is lamentable that Rizal’s politics of power, greed and avarice had metamorphosed toward personal destruction in contemporary Philippine politics. She said the Government of the Philippines (GPH) is serious about the peace process to attain a just and lasting peace in the country. “We come to the table bringing with us the full force of government…to demonstrate the seriousness in government’s intent, under the leadership of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III, to bring proper completion and closure to a process that has gone on far too long,” she said. The AHHL Group, which is composed of representatives from the GPH and the MNLF, was created by the parties to move forward the Tripartite Review on the implementation of the 1996 Final Peace Agreement (FPA). The Organization of Islamic Cooperation - Peace Committee for the Southern Philippines (OIC-PCSP), chaired by Indonesian Ambassador Rezlan I. Jenie, facilitated the AHHL meeting. Deles said that the purpose of the tripartite meeting is “not to renegotiate the Agreement but rather to review its implementation toward its full compliance by the two parties.” ‘We are confident that the results of this OIC-GPHMNLF tripartite review, together with the culmination of the GPH-MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) peace talks and joined with current efforts to reform and strengthen the ARMM under the stewardship of the officer-in-charge regional government, will herald a new chapter in the long and valorous history of the Bangsamoro.’ She related that the government’s peace negotiations with the MILF are now on its substantive stage. ‘We have firm basis to hope that a peace agreement with the MILF may be attained within the year. Such achievement, together with the completion of the Implementation of the 1996 Final Peace Agreement ensuing from this tripartite review process, ushers in the hope
for the most comprehensive, responsive and enduring resolution of the conflict in the south,’ she explained. Deles expressed ‘appreciation for the efforts of the OIC, especially the Secretary General, His Excellency Professor Eklemedin Ihsanoglu, in cultivating an enabling environment for more consultations and cooperation between the two Moro fronts that both seek the advancement of the right to self-governance of one and the same people in one and the same homeland.’ On the same note, she said that the Philippine government deeply values the efforts of the OIC-PCSP in facilitating the review of the implementation of the 1996 FPA. Deles was joined by subcabinet level representatives of other members of the GPH-AHHLG, namely Undersecretary Jose Luis Gascon of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs; Justice Undersecretary Leah Armamento; Deputy Director-General Zenonida Brosas of the National Security Council, and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Officer-in-Charge Regional Vice Governor Bainon Karon. Agencies accompanying the process in advisory capacity were also represented by Undersecretary Nabil Tan of the Office of the Executive Secretary, Undersecretary Rafael Seguis of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and Commissioner Edilwasif Baddiri of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos. Mindanao political leaders, by invitation of the Government, attended the meeting as observers of the process. These include the governors and congressmen, such as Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar, Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong, Jr., Maguindanao Gov. Esmael Mangundadatu, Sulu Gov. Sakur Tan, Tawi-Tawi Gov. Sahidula Sahali, Cong. Jesus Sacdalan, attending as chair of the House Special Committee on Peace, Unification and Reconciliation, and Cong. Sandra Sema. With wire report
Freddie Roach: We will get Davao Norte Floyd junior and shut him up karatedo team By IMRAN SHAUKAT KHAN, Newspakistan.pk
MANNY Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, has insisted that a clash between his man and Floyd Mayweather junior is what motivates him to stick around in the sport of boxing despite the effects of Parkinson disease and the Hall-of-Fame trainer is confident that one day people will get to see this dream-fight. The undefeated American, who holds an incredible record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, including 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, challenged Pacquiao for a May 5 fight but his offer was turned down by the Filipino star after he said he will not have a 50/50 split with him. Like many out there, Roach also thinks it was just another move from Mayweather to duck the fight. “Well, I thought Mayweather was coming to the table, calling us out. He
ROACH made a very bold move and then he knows how to protect himself with the 70/30 split,” Roach told Fighthype. Roach, who is more commonly known as Master Roach, stressed Pacquiao has retirement plans on his mind but he is also in the sport for Mayweather since he wants to defeat him before he hangs up his gloves. Mayweather, who thinks

he is the biggest draw in the sport, has confirmed that he will not offer a 50/50 split to Pacquiao yet Roach believes he will find a way to catch him so that his fighter finally shuts him up. “I want to train the best fighter in the world and the reason why I stay around is to get him ready for Mayweather when it does happen, and I’m sure that’s why Manny is still here also, because we feel it’s going to happen, we hope it’s going to happen, we’re going to do everything in our power to make it happen,” Roach continued. “You know, we might have to go give him more money or something just to get him in the ring, but you know what? We will get him some day and we will finally shut him up.” Mayweather and Pacquiao are considered as the pound-for-pound best fighters in the world and a fight between these two boxing’s best will certainly do a lot good for the sport. So let’s hope it gets made.

he was always available when it came to serving as speaker, trainer or resource person in College Editors Guild seminars and workshops. In the last two years since the Ampatuan massacre, he also attended, and often spoke at, the marches and demonstrations demanding justice for the victims of that atrocity. In those events where ethics and professional standards were the subject of discussion, Gani was constant in his opposition to spin and to editorializing in the news pages, believing that the news is meant to provide information and that opinion is best left to the op-ed pages. It’s tempting to say that his perspective puts him in the old school category, but the truth is that his perspective is neither old nor new, just good journalism. Gani Yambot’s benign presence, his jokes and his insights we will all miss, as his presence, I am sure, will be missed in the Inquirer newsroom. Beyond that, however, his example should remind us all that while our common destiny is to leave this world whether early or late, the people and the community we serve will remember us with fondness and appreciation only if we do journalism the justice it deserves by being as upright and as moral, as decent and as honorable, as Gani was.

Antonio Diaz last year. Every election, we have been hearing reports that police and election officials themselves have been acting as agents of incumbent officials or the rich and powerful candidates in their areas of jurisdiction, but no one so far have been held liable. A Brown Group of Companies takes the lead in the preparation of next year’s oil palm congress. A Brown Group through its subsidiaries, Nakeen Corporation manages the Palm Oil plantation in Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental, while A Brown Energy Resources Development Inc (Aberdi) operates the palm oil mill plant in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon. How to use the oil palm farming as a business tool in poverty alleviation will also be discussed during the forum as well as the respective key roles of concerned government agencies (GOs), non-government organizations (NGOs) and local government units (LGUs), Garcia added. SPORTS 8 LeBron and KD: Two superstars, two different planets THURSDAY, MARCH 8, 2012
By SHAUN POWELL, NBA.com
SOMETIMES it’s better to be the superstar who hasn’t gone to the NBA Finals (yet), who didn’t leave his team for another, who doesn’t have legions dissecting the moves he makes and also those he doesn’t. Kevin Durant isn’t exactly low profile. But at least he can pass to a teammate on the last possession without being characterized as a loser. “I saw that play,” Durant said, referring to LeBron James famously Video giving up the ball last weekend in Utah. “Udonis Haslem was wide open for a jumper that he usually makes. You know what? I’d make the same play. It was the right play. I’d have done the same
thing. I can’t believe it was even an issue.” It’s an interesting observation from Durant, perhaps the only player who can wrestle the MVP trophy from LeBron. Both are having terrific seasons, are generally recognized as the two greatest young players in the game, and they could meet this June in a championship summit that would coronate an alreadyblockbuster NBA season. But they are judged, by the basketball universe at least, on completely separate planets. They are galaxies apart. To the consensus, Durant is the humble star, smart player and consummate teammate who can do nothing wrong. He’s the rare
Kevin Durant and LeBron James faced off last month in the All-Star Game. Durant won MVP. Jesse D. Garrabrant/NBAE via Getty Images shooter who isn’t considered a selfish gunner. Had he shoveled a pass with the game on the line to Russell Westbrook, or even James Harden, the ensuing debate wouldn’t be heated enough to fry an egg. Meanwhile, LeBron is viewed as the egocentric personality, fourth-quarter flop and championship goat
who was too afraid to beat the Jazz. In the All-Star Game, the MVP award that Durant took home was decided more by what LeBron didn’t do in the fourth quarter. He passed up three chances to take the last shot. Because of his meltdown in the NBA Finals last June, LeBron simply can’t win.
This is the same player who famously destroyed the Pistons almost by himself in the playoffs several years ago, and who beat Derrick Rose and the Bulls with epic plays in the fourth quarter and overtime last spring. No matter what he does (or doesn’t do), though, he will surely be rejected, even by folks outside of Cleveland. While the characterizations and denunciations of LeBron are mostly over the top -- if not plain unfair -at least the universe gets it right with Durant. He truly is a complete package, from a superstar standpoint. In that respect, Oklahoma City is fortunate. There aren’t many players at the highest level who are low maintenance, who are adored in their own locker room and respected
by their peers and constantly praised by the public. Durant is mainly because his actions demand it. Humble and level-headed, he’s the Derrick Rose of the West. “He’s a great superstar,” said Thunder coach Scott Brooks. “He looks at himself as the 15th guy on the team. He works every day, doesn’t see himself as better than his teammates, even though obviously he’s one of the best players in the game. That kind of player is a treat to be around. He carries himself well on and off the court. He carries himself the same way with the staff and his teammates. He wants to be coached; we coach him hard and he listens and goes with the plan. He buys into what we’re trying to do.” source: nba.com

tional Police (PNP) under Sr. Insp. Henry Carpia and Supt. Lumanda D. Idsla. “We also need the support of the barangay officials and the local residents.
