THE Senate has sent its own physician to check the health condition of Chief Justice Renato Corona, confined Wednesday at the intensive care unit of the Medical City in Pasig City on Wednesday following a “hypoglycemic episode.”

Corona, 63, was admitted to the hospital, a day after his appearance at his own impeachment trial, due to what Supreme Court spokesman Midas Marquez said was possibly due to a heart attack. Corona, reportedly a diabetic for the past 20 years, had the “hypoglycemic episode” immediately after his nearly three-hour opening statement at the impeachment court. Diabetic hypoglycemia, a low blood glucose level occurring in a person with diabetes mellitus, is one of the most common types of hypoglycemia seen in emergency departments and hospitals.
