Bigby’s invades Centrio mall

WITH the soft opening of Centrio mall yesterday, the Bigby’s Cafe and Restaurant also formally opened its third branch in Cagayan de Oro City. Originally called Bigby’s Cafe way back on December 8, 1998, this food business has gradually evolved into Bigby’s Cafe and Restaurant. It all started when three friends––Henrik Kelly Yu, Joanna Cris Yu, and Catherine Genabe––thought of creating an atmosphere fit for adventure into the difA GROUP of people curiously observe the preparation of Bigby’s Cafe and ferent cuisines of the world. A year after, Bigby’s Cafe and Restaurant has revolutionized the dining habit in Cagayan de Oro City. Its fun dining atmosphere through the “wordy” decors hanged on every wall––complimented by wide array of wittingly named dishes it serves at reasonable prices has them Bigby’s the ultimate dining choice of families, young urban professionals, and even businessmen. In an interview, Henrik Kelly Yu, the market-

ing officer of Bigby’s Cafe and Restaurant, said one of Bigby’s specialties is its yummy “ribs” at the cost of P300 per serving. He said Bigby’s also serve native foods such as its one-of-a-kind “Sinuglaw.” He added that Bigby’s is using a special kind of vinegar that adds flavor to its Sinuglaw served with “deles” on top. “Our foods are served at reasonable prices,” said Yu adding, “customers of Bigby’s Cafe and Restaurant will surely be satisfied not only with the big service it rendered but the kind of foods that it serves.”

Two men fired rifle grenade Comelec at town mayor’s compound wants 2013 CAMP Siongco, Maguindanao––Two men riding in tandem on a motorbike fired a rifle grenade near the house of a Sultan Kudarat town mayor Thursday night, police said. No one was injured when the rifle grenade went off at about 7:30 p.m. outside the residential compound of President Quirino Mayor Emilio Salamanca along Malvar Street, Tacurong City. Salamanca is seeking reelection. According to Sr. Supt. Rolen Balquin, Sultan Kudarat police provincial director, no one was killed or injured in the grenade attack but it caused panic among the residents. Responding Army bomb disposal operatives recovered fragments of 40 mm rifle grenade in front of Salamanca’s house.

“Based on our initial probe, it was a pure harassment,” Balquin said, adding that Salamanca has no threats to life prior to the grenade attack. Thursday night’s grenade attack came a day after a hand grenade exploded at the public market of Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat, about 40 kilometers from Tacurong City. Four persons were wounded in the Esperanza grenade blast in what police authorities believed was triggered by a long standing family feud. The grenade was tossed by two men riding in tandem on a motorbike at the store owned by Rasul Delna that injured him and three others. Balquin said the twin grenade attack was not related.

SP B’non supports non-partisan NPA rebel killed, 2 firearms recovered campaign of Pantawid Pamilya in Surigao clash By OLIVER BADEL INODEO

CAGAYAN de Oro City––The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Bukidnon province has expressed its commitment to support the directive of Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman that Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (Pantawid Pamilya) and its workers must be non-partisan in the light of the upcoming mid-term elections next year. Vice Governor Jose Ma. Zubiri Jr., father of former senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, assured Bukidnon Provincial Link of Pantawid Pamilya, Christopher Capinpin, of the provincial council’s support during their regular session on November 7. SP Bukidnon invited Capinpin to introduce the newly designated Indigenous People’s Coordinator of the province who will also take a seat in the council. During a privilege time, Capinpin and other Pantawid Pamilya workers presented the directive of Sec. Soliman dated August 3, 2012. Soliman, in her directive, prohibits Pantawid Pamilya field implementers from threatening or intimidating any beneficiary to attend any partisan political activity; employing deceit or misrepresentation to gather benefi-

ciaries for a political caucus, meeting, rally or other assemblies in the guise of an official program activity; active endorsement of a political candidate or party to beneficiaries; distributing partisan political literature or campaign materials to beneficiaries during official program activitiy; allowing the program or any activities of the program to be used as a vehicle for partisan political activities; or performing any act that promotes any political candidacy or party. Atty. Araceli F. Solamillo, Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 10, said all Pantawid Pamilya workers are prohibited from directly or indirectly participating or appearing to participate in any partisan political activities of any political parties or candidates. Atty. Solamillo reiterated the marching order of Secretary Soliman in order to emphasize the impartiality of the program and its workers in relation to the political activities in the region. Any workers reported to have violated the above-mentioned prohibitions shall be immediately suspended from her or his post. Only after the suspension an investigation will follow. However, the regional director

pointed out that DSWD is respecting the rights of beneficiaries in choosing their political party and candidates. However, she emphasized that beneficiaries should only support or endorse any political candidate or parties as a citizen of the country, and not as beneficiary of the program. She clarified that the program is not supporting any partisan political party or candidate. Zubiri told Capinpin that SP will help in advocating for the nonpartisanship of the program and its workers throughout the province. In Misamis Oriental, Provincial Link Cielo Alcoran disclosed that Pantawid Pamilya workers have presented the directive to some local government units during the regular meeting of its Municipal Advisory Council (MAC), where the mayor is the presiding officer while in Lanao del Norte province, Provincial Link Delmerah Unos will present the directive during the meeting of the Provincial Advisory Council where Governor Mohammad Khalid Dimaporo presides. DENR to protect 158 caves from treasure hunters, vandals The Philippine government has put 158 caves under the protection of the environment department to safeguard them from treasure-hunters, vandals and looters, it was announced Saturday. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said the caves, which are scattered across the country, would be protected both by the department and local governments. Environment Secretary Ramon Paje said caves were a valuable natural resource for their scientific, historical, and cultural value. "Yet they are also in constant threat from destructive human activities like vandalism, treasure hunting, pollution and illegal extraction of resources," he said in a statement.

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, for instance, is "believed to be one of the longest navigable underground rivers in the world which features cathedrallike caverns and domes." "The stalactites and stalagmites formation resembles like religious images, fruits and birds. Truly, an admirable underworld that project the omnipotence of the Creator over human hands. The Underground River is home to other cove dwelling fauna," an article on the DENR website said. Under the order, 118 caves have been classified as being closed to the general public because they are too dangerous or contain valuable geological formations, threatened species or historical artifacts. Such caves will be ac-

cessible only to scientists, researchers or trained spelunkers, the department said. Another 40 caves were listed as "generally safe," and will remain open to the general public to visit or for activities such as collecting guano and bird's nests for soup, the department added. The department's wildlife protection bureau has counted at least 1,756 caves scattered across the Southeast Asian archipelago but only a small number have been checked and classified by authorities. which are sold as decorations. MisOc allocates P3M for flood control rehab

MDRRMC recommends a state of calamity for flooded areas By: Rutchie C. Aguhob

MISAMIS Occidental The provincial government of Misamis Occidental has released P3 million for the River Flood Control Projects of two barangays in Oroquieta City. Of the amount, P2 million went to the River Flood Control Project

of Brgy. Talic, while P1 million went to the same project in Brgy. Taboc Norte. “It has been the concern of the residents in the area because each time it rains, the water at the Layawan River overflows and results in flooding, thereby af-

fecting the houses in these barangays,” Talic Barangay Chair Ricky Lagahid said. It was noted that during high tide, strong sea waves destroy houses of people living in the coastal areas of said barangays. (Jopat D. Nano/RCA/PIA10, Misamis Occidental/jdelpf )

its guard down against possible floods. Last week of October, the Reduce the Risk (RDR) Rescue Teams of PDRRMO took some members of the Davao del Norte media to a familiarization tour of Liboganon River, considered as one of the river basins in Mindanao. It was not the usual sightseeing, leisure tour. It became a real experience of river-watching as the tour fell on the day when tropical storm Ofel was expected to affect the eastern side of the country. There was moderate to heavy rainfall the night before the tour. Fortunately, there was no flood, but Liboganon River turned murky the next morning. Rains did not spoil our early morning trip along the river following PDRRMO Executive Officer Sonio Sanchez’s briefing about the tour. Rescuers tagged along with three rubber boats, each with a carrying capacity of 10, and one fiber boat with a capacity of seven.

Wearing lifejackets, we got into the rescue boats in the river bank in Barangay San Miguel in Tagum City. Driven by 40-horsepower engines, the rubber boats swiftly plowed through the murky waters of Liboganon River, while the 25-horsepowered fiber boat came along. On board the boats were 20 participants, including the RDR rescuers and Sanchez, their chief. Liboganon River is long and wide. PDRRMO says that it follows a winding course estimated to stretch about 30 kilometers from Sitio Patil in far-flung Barangay Gupitan, Kapalong and empties into the Davao Gulf. Its width is more than 100 meters. When it overflows, its water rises more than 10 meters high from its normal level. No wonder it created a real havoc when its waters overflowed in late December 2011. Some people said last year’s flooding was a little less lighter than the floods way back in the 1990s and 1980s during which Liboga-

The previously discovered planets around it are called hot super-Earths because they orbit too close to the star to support life. The most interesting of the new planets is in the outermost orbit from the star, a distance that is similar to the distance between the Earth and the Sun. Its mass is at least seven times the mass of the Earth. The team said the planet is likely to be rotating on its axis while in orbit, possibly creating a day/night cycle and an Earth-like environment. WIRE REPORT

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) has not let

BONIFACIO, Misamis Occidental - The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) here has passed a resolution recommending to the Sangguniang Bayan (SB), the declaration of a state of calamity in areas greatly affected by the recent floods. The floods were due to heavy rains brought about by Typhoon Ofel, last October 24-25, causing the Usogan River to overflow and submerged the rice fields of at least seven barangays, namely: Lilo-an, Lower Usogan, Linconan, Tiaman, Bolinsong, D. Fernan and Digson. In his report to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), the municipal said damage to government projects and properties was estimated at P21.4 million. About 704 families with 3,520 members were affect-

ed by floods, of which 136 families with 562 members were temporarily housed in evacuation centers, Dumanjug said. Meanwhile, the mayor said lack of pump boats and rubber boats has hampered the rescue operations during which, some residents were adamant to evacuate

and leave their houses for fear of losing their properties, livestock and other valuables they would leave behind. Helping out in rescue operations were members of the Misamis Occidental Search and Rescue Tem (MOSART), Ozamiz City Search and Rescue

non River brought floodwaters to the national highway, stopping traffic flow and stalling vehicles. Senior broadcast journalist Aurora Lozada, station manager of DXDN Radyo Ukay Tagum, recalled how she waded through the flooded highway along Bincungan, Tagum City to monitor the situation and gather news reports. During normal weather, Liboganon shows fertile river banks that offer rich soil for fruit trees and bananas. Birds fly along the course of the river and feed along the vegetation of reeds that

abundantly grow on its banks. Only few people were seen fishing at the Liboganon River during the familiarization tour, but children were seen having thrill and excitement as they spent time boating and swimming. Participants in the familiarization tour also eventually found and encountered the most thrilling and exciting part of the activity at the river mouth where the sea meets the river. Rains poured, wind blew harder than usual, and waves surged high. They got wet. But they found comfort with the presence of RDR rescuers. Wom-

en participants, however, couldn’t keep from yelling with excitement when the rubber boats crossed surging waves. At the command of Sanchez, the rubber boats and the fiber boat were led toward a river in Carmen (adjacent to Tagum City) away from the turbulent sea. They got off along La Barangay La Paz to take their lunch. They laughed at their unique experience that opened their eyes to the urgent need for public support and cooperation to keep a close watch on the Liboganon River.

More Pinoys at greater risk to heart attack Kia Motors posts 3.1% global sales growth in October

CORONARY ARTERY disease (CAD) is considered as one of the deadliest illnesses in the Philippines. It’s so deadly because blood flow to the heart is restricted due to hardened or narrowed arteries. Narrowing of the arteries may be due to plaque, which is made up of fat, cholesterol and other substances found in the blood. When the plaque builds up, the condition leads to atherosclerosis. The narrowed arteries constrict the flow of oxygenrich blood to the heart and if left untreated, CAD may lead to angina or, worse, heart attack. Symptoms of angina include chest pain or discomfort and feeling of tightness or heaviness in the chest. Pain may also occur in the shoulders, arms, neck, jaw, or back, and may even feel like indigestion. Heart attack occurs when the heart muscles are deprived of oxygen and become damaged, which can lead to serious problems and even death. The National Nutrition and Health Survey conducted by the Food and

Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (FNRI-DOST) in cooperation with 14 medical societies and the Department of Health reported that 22.5 percent or two in ten of Filipino adults 20 years old and over showed a higher risk of CAD based on the anginal symptoms of chest pain, heaviness and tightness. The results further revealed that angina based on symptoms is common among females and among those living in rural areas. On the other hand, the prevalence of CAD based on history of previous diagnosis

by a doctor or nurse was 1.3 percent, indicating that only a small proportion of adults is diagnosed with CAD. This alarming problem which affects about 11,000 Filipino adults needs to be urgently addressed by the government and planning bodies to prevent and control fatal heart disease among Filipino adults, said Charmaine A. Duante, senior science research specialist of the FNRI-DOST. Another type of atherosclerotic-related disease which was included in the said survey was the peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and stroke. The cause of PAD is

also atherosclerosis where a person may have a higher risk of heart attack, stroke and ischemic heart disease. PAD was determined based on symptoms of calf pain with a prevalence of 4.2 percent, while stroke was based on previous history with a prevalence of 1.2 percent. The proportion of adults aged 20 years old and over who had angina based on symptoms has almost doubled from 12.5 percent in 2003 to 22.5 percent in 2008. This alarming trend is a wake-up call, given the widely recognized body of evidence on the prevalence of these diseases, Duante added. For more information on food and nutrition, contact Dr. Mario V. LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord…” (Joshua 24:15, the Holy Bible). -oooFILIPINO, PRIDE OF ALL ROTARIANS WORLDWIDE: Lyne Abanilla, the vice president for classified advertising of the oldest Philippine newspaper Manila Bulletin and a past district governor of Rotary, is fast becoming to be the pride not only of Filipino Rotarians but of all Rotarians in the world as well, in her role as one of Rotary International’s public imaging coordinators tasked with spreading Rotary’s “service above self ” and exhorting Rotarians to tell their story of service. Shortly before All Saints Day 2012, she was invited to speak about Rotary’s public imaging efforts (or public relations, if you will) before the Rotary Club of Norfolk, Virginia, USA, and did she wow the US club members about what Rotary is doing now to spread the good news of Rotary’s worldwide

caring for the poor and the marginalized. The club bulletin of the Norfolk Rotarians gave a very glowing account of Lyne’s speech. THINK a minute. About love. It makes the world go around, right? The problem is that there doesn’t seem to be much going around! Most of us know that to love and be loved is what life is all about. So why is there so little real love in the world? Why have so many of us not learned how? How do I learn to love? It’s simple: until I have been truly loved by someone else, I don’t know how to truly love others. I know what you’re thinking: “No one has ever loved me like that! I mean really loved me all the

All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.” A common problem for Christians is the temptation to get so caught up in our spiritual gift that we only seek to serve God in the area in which we feel we

have been gifted. That is not how the spiritual gifts work. God calls us to obediently serve Him in all things. He will equip us with whatever gift or gifts we need to accomplish the task He has called us to. God calls some to be teachers and gives them the gift of teaching. God calls some to be servants and blesses them with the gift of helps. However, specifically knowing our spiritual gift does not excuse us from serving God in areas outside our gifting. Is it beneficial to know what spiritual gift(s) God has given us? Of course it is. Is it wrong to focus so much on spiritual gifts that we miss other opportunities to serve God? Yes. If we are dedicated to being used by God, He will equip us with the spiritual gifts we need.

Identifying our spiritual gifts

IDENTIFYING our spiritual giftedness can be known in many ways. One way is to test ourselves. Spiritual gift tests can definitely help us understand where our gifting might be. Another is a confirmation from others. It gives light to our spiritual giftedness. Other people who see us serving the Lord can often identify a spiritual gift in use that we might take for granted or not recognize. Prayer is also important. The one person who knows exactly how we are spiritually gifted is the gift-giver Himself—the Holy Spirit. We can ask God to show us how we are gifted BEST | page 11 in order to better use our spiritual gifts for His glory. We learn to love by seeing God’s love for us in Jesus Christ. Jesus loves you without conditions. No person in history has lived with such a perfect kind of love for others has Jesus Christ did. Real love cannot be done by slogans or songs. They cannot change our self-

centered heart and nature. We all want real love, but none of us is able to give it. That’s why Jesus came: to show us what real love looks like. Jesus has given us the greatest picture and proof of His love for us—by giving His perfectly innocent life for all of our wrongs. So how do you learn to love? Just let Jesus love you. Ask Him to take charge of your heart and life everyday. And as you receive His love and power every day, you’ll start learning how to love others like that; since you’ll always be getting the love you need from Him. Just Think a Minute.

The Information Technology Sub-Sector (ITSS) of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas defines e-mail spam as “unsolicited commercial e-mail (UCE) or unsolicited bulk e-mail (UBE).” E-mail spam is sometimes referred to as “junk mail,” normally containing advertisements for services and products. According to the ITSS, the most common types of spam e-mails include the following: Scams/Hoaxes • Phishing scam/per-

sonal information scam—a very popular and dangerous form of e-mail fraud that scammers use to commit identity theft • Nigerian bank scams or advance fee fraud schemes • Pyramid schemes, including multi-level marketing • Sweepstakes, lottery, and prize scams • Other “Get Rich Quick” or “Make Money Fast” schemes Ads • Quack health products and remedies • Software collecting e-mail addresses • Illegally pirated software Chain Letters

• Software collecting e-mail addresses and sending unsolicited commercial e-mail • Offers of bulk e-mailing services for sending unsolicited commercial e-mail So what are the signs that an e-mail is possibly “spam”? The ITSS answers: • You do not know the sender; • It involves something that is confidential or personal in nature (such as your PIN and password); • It involves money; and • It requires you to click on some form of link, hyperlink, URL, or button. Should you receive an e-mail spam, these are the things that you should do, according to the ITSS: • Be cautious. Obama’s pro-abortion stance, a concern for PH WITH the re-election of pro-abortion president Barack Obama, freedom of choice is being thrown out the window for numerous Americans, who can expect more coercion when it comes to supporting a government mandate that violates their moral values, said a young Filipino. “While I am not an American voter, I am concerned about Obama’s being vehemently pro-choice. Not only does he support abortion rights, but he also wants to implement an allencompassing healthcare policy that covers contraception, sterilization, and abortion-causing drugs,” said writer and life advocate Nicole Bautista. “I mean, sure, if you don’t want to avail of it, don’t take it, right? But this government-funded policy forces the hand of people regardless of their beliefs, to pay for something they don’t believe in with their hardearned money—through their taxes.” Bautista, who appeared in a video produced by Human Life International (HLI) about the harm that contraception causes on women, pointed out that though US affairs are that country’s own, the rest of the world is not immune to the effects of developments in American politics. The outcome of the recent presidential elections exerts tremendous influence on the

rights amid decades-long foreign pressure to carry out government-mandated programs for “reproductive health” care services — the latest of which is the P13.7-billion measure that proposes, among other heavily opposed provisions, taxpayer-funded procure-

ment and distribution of birth control drugs and devices. A substitute RH bill was recently formulated, which pro-lifers reject just the same since it essentially contains the same objectionable principles but presented differently. (CBCP for Life)

direction which legislation takes in the Philippines, the writer noted. “He may be the president of the US—not my president—but as head of such a powerful nation, Obama can be a big influence on our own nation’s policies. Do you think it’s coincidental that after Pnoy came home from a meeting with Obama, the noise on RH bill started getting louder again?” she asked. “It’s not two separate events; it’s cause and effect.” President Benigno Aquino III is getting a lot of pressure from the US as it is to sign the reproductive health (RH) bill into law, and with Obama still on top, the fight to overcome that and stay true to our culture just gets harder,” Bautista added. Bautista, who blogs on

life and chastity issues, took part in a video by HLI, the world’s largest pro-life organization, which was produced this year as part of a campaign to defend the rights of women, in response to yet another massive effort by the British government and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) to carry out its depopulation agenda in developing nations. The video titled “No Controversy?” exposed the serious and documented dangers that contraceptives pose on the health of women. Featured in it are young women from Asia and Africa – the focus of the BMGF’s project to flood the developing world with birth control supplies, including what it has called “lifesaving contraceptives.”

Bautista was one of two Filipino women who appeared in the HLI-produced project, which debuted in July. It’s not only in America that proposed laws’ trampling on the people’s Constitution-guaranteed freedoms is becoming apparent. The much-debated RH bill was hailed for a time by its proponents as one step to advance freedom of choice. It is becoming increasingly obvious to more and more Filipinos, however, that the bill deprives a remarkable portion of the population of the right to exercise freedom in different forms which are enshrined in the Philippine Constitution. Life and family advocates have been continuously working to uphold women and children’s

Commercial e-jeep mulled in Cdo By Lorebeth Requiroso

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, -- The city government is looking at the possibility of having electric-powered jeepneys in Cagayan de Oro. In a meeting of the City Council committee on environment chaired by Councilor President D. Elipe on November 5, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Assistant Regional Director Allan Guru said that operation of e-jeepneys is feasible in the city. He, however said to get a franchise there are still some requirements that must be met such as proof of ownership, certificate of registration and creation of routes for the proposed e-jeepneys. The LTFRB said some cities in the country like Makati are already making

Also featured in the fair were banana vinegar from Barangay Lebe in Kiamba and dried and marinated flying fish, corn and rice coffee, salted eggs and herbal tea from Barangay Old Poblacion, in Maitum both in Sarangani Province. The province also highlighted its salted eggs which were colored yellow because of the organic process they underwent. On the other hand, Barangay Palkan in Polomolok, South Cotabato featured their durian fruit. Department of Agriculture Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR)

Regional Executive Director, Marilyn Sta. Catalina, said agriculture plays an important role in the promotion of tourism in the country. “One way of making our respective places known to other areas in the country is through the agricultural products that we have,” Sta. Catalina explained. Region 12 participants earned more than P18,000 from the displayed products. By this, Dir. Datukan extended her continuous support to the BFT program in Soccsksargen by increasing the number of farmers’ market alternatives. KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato, Nov. 8 (PIA) -- Six Barangay Food Terminals (BFTs) in Region 12 took part in the celebration of the 1st National Agri-Tourism cum Food Terminal Congress and Trade Exhibits held recently in Baguio City. The trade exhibits enabled the BFTs to showcase their products. Department of Agriculture (DA) 12 Regional Executive Director Amalia J. use of e-jeepneys. The committee invited the LTFRB, Department of Energy (DOE), Cagayan de Oro Electric Power and Light Company (Cepalco), City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO), the Association of Barangay Councils and possible stakeholders to discuss the operation of the eco-friendly transport system in the city. Councilor Elipe said ejeepneys, which run using electricity instead of diesel, will be an alternative for vehicles with combustive engines. He said the city government is determined to pursue the project as part of its environmental drive. “We want our constituents to be environment conscious. This will address noise and air pollution,” he added.According to Elipe,

this is also in line with the intention of the city to present more transport systems that are safe. The operation of the proposed e-jeepney will be awarded to a cooperative, which will be created for the purpose, Elipe said. Upon the recommendation of Councilor Adrian Barba, the committee requested the LTFRB for guidelines on how to go about the project. According to a representative of Cepalco, as of now, the company has no tariff for electric jeepneys. The company said it is, however, willing to help in installing facilities in charging stations of the proposed e-jeepneys. It was proposed that this be patterned after Makati City, where 20 commercial e-jeepneys are now operating. ( Lorebeth C. Requiroso/CdeOSP/PIA10)

Gilbert Grado, Mambajao Municipal accountant meanwhile said the mayor has now formed a technical working group to oversee the implementation in all phases of the project. The technical working, he noted, is well represented by other key agencies and stakeholders as this will also help in ensuring transparency. “We are really careful on this, even if it is on its early phase, because PPP projects normally requires different processes, in fact, we are set to undergo a training on how to go about it soon,” he added. Engineer Leonides G.

Oclarit, Chief of the Mambajao municipal planning office likewise confirmed that a lot of investors have shown interest on funding the arcade project and are proposing to fund other PPP projects. Currently, the LGU will also inaugurate this month one of the building they constructed in the heart of the poblacion fronting the public market along Placido Reyes Street. The new building will be rented by the Land of the Philippine (LBP) Mambajao Branch, together with other government agencies who will also occupy the second floor. (JCV/PIA 10)

The proposed arcade is designed to house some 70 stalls in a 2,908 square meter area allotted for the building. Town Mayor Maria Luisa De La Romualdo said this project is among her priorities as this is seen to create job opportunities and at the same time generate additional revenues for the town.

IN A RECENT NATIONAL FOOD CONGRESS the Socc sksargen region displayed mangoosteen, mango and chinese pomelo and other fruits from their barangays. Mindanao has always been a showcase of exotic and naturally-grown fruits and other food products which have a big market share in the national capital region. architecture with verdant landscaping accented by two old acacia trees at the center, providing a relaxing vibe to the entire shopping experience,” the Ayala, in a press statement, said. Cagayan de Oro Mayor Vicente Emano also cited the Ayala Land for preserving the old acacia trees. Dream come true In his speech, Mr. Emano said that the coming of Ayala in the city is a dream come true saying “wherever Ayala goes, everyone follows.” Centrio mall brings to the city Ayala malls’ signature offerings through its delightful mix of first-inthe- region brands, popular favorites, homegrown concepts, an exciting selection of dining and lifestyle options including the Ayala malls U-First brand of customer service. With four state of the art cinemas, Timezone and a vibrant activity center which will be home to oneof-a-kind shows and events, unparalleled entertainment is in store for the city of Cagayan de Oro. The Centrio development is a project of Cagayan de Oro Gateway Corporation, a joint venture company between Ayala Land, Inc. and the Anflo Group of Companies. Providing a live-work and play environment, Centrio is a 3.7 hectare mixed use, master planned community consisting of the newly opened Centrio mall, an urban lifestyle hotel, residential condominiums, and an office development. With its delectable finds, unique offerings and events, Centrio mall elevates the shopping, dining and entertainment adventure of this vibrant city of Northern Mindanao. Mr. Emano, on one hand, urged the Ayala Land to prioritize applicants from Cagayan de Oro and the nearby Misamis Oriental. “Thank you for what you have done in Cagayan de Oro,” said the mayor apparently referring to the president of Ayala Land. Mr. Emano said: “The dream of bringing Ayala in

Cagayan de Oro has become a reality.” Overwhelming Mr. Aquino likewise thanked local residents for the overwhelming support to Centrio mall, including its merchants. He said that he was also amazed over how Cagayanons bounced back after the killer tropical storm Sendong struck the city.

”We don’t know how to concede. We keep on protesting the results of the elections,” he said. Sen. Loren Legarda agreed with Brillantes, saying the country’s multipolitical party system is preventing the achievement of political maturity. ”First, the US has only two political parties while we have multi-political party system and, secondly, we have a different culture,” Legarda said. Meanwhile, Brillantes defended the Comelec’s decision to disqualify more party-lists, saying they have the authority to delist partylists which do not represent marginalized sectors.

Brillantes, however, said the Comelec is not yet ready to match the recent US election where re-elected President Barack Obama was proclaimed within six hours. “Of course that’s (24 hours) the fastest. We can’t force the machine to go faster than that. It might explode,” he said. Aside from system enhancement, Brillantes said he is hoping the Filipinos would be politically mature enough to accept defeat.
