PNOY, DELES NAIS PATALSIKIN!

PNP:Surrender MILF ambsuhers

T

he Philipine National Police has demanded the surrender of Moro Islamic Liberation Front members who were behind the killings of elite Special Action Force commandos in Maguindanao province in January. The MILF, which signed a peace deal with Manila, surrendered at least 16 weapons it took from slain police commandos following deadly clashes in Mamasapano town. The surrender of the weapons last week further bolstered accusations by lawmakers and human rights groups that MILF rebels had finished off wounded SAF commandos and collected their guns, among others, in the village of Tukanalipao. A video clip uploaded on Facebook also showed one gunman shooting several times a wounded SAF commando in Tukanalipao where the elite police unit killed Malaysian bomber Zulkifli bin Hir deep inside MILF territory on January 25. Dato Abd Samad bin Yaakub, Head of Mission of the International Monitoring Team, Senior Supt. Noel Armill, of the regional police force, The weapons were handed over to the police, but SAF sources claimed the guns had been tampered and that many of its parts were either taken out or replaced with defective mechanism. Mohagher Iqbal, an MILF vice chairman and chief peace negotiator of the group, said the handover of the weapons was a gesture of their sincerity to the peace process. He also denied media reports quoting him as saying that renewed hostilities may breakout in the restive region if the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law is rejected by Congress. Lawmakers shelved the BBL until investigations into the deadly clashes between SAF and MILF is completed. Police commandos were on their way to re-join their more

than 300 SAF members after killing Zulkifli and cutting off his finger for DNA analysis when MILF forces, aided by Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, attacked them and sparking daylong clashes. At least 18 MILF and five BIFF were killed in the fierce fighting that the Aquino government claimed was a misencounter. Muslim human rights groups also claimed that 7 civilians were also killed by the police, but this could not be independently confirmed. The MILF signed a peace deal with the Aquino government last year and the recent fighting is now threatening not only the peace process, but the presidency of Aquino as public outcry for his weak leadership continues to mount. The viral video of the killing of the wounded SAF commando, shared by Zaldy Balds Suson on his Facebook page, drew angry comments from those who have watched the clip. It was unknown how Suson got hold of the clip, but other Facebook accounts also posted the same video. Continue to page 2

PNOY, DELES NAIS PATALSIKIN!

trahedya. Nais rin ng mga ito na busisiin ng Commission on Audit ang bilyon-bilyong pisong pondo ng tanggapan ni Deles – ang Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process – ang ang milyon-milyong salapi na ibinibigay umano ng pamahalaang Aquino at ng Malaysia sa liderato ng MILF na lumagda ng peace accord noon nakaraang taon. Kamakailan lamang ay sinabi ng Western Mindanao Command sa Zamboanga City na suportado pa r in ng Armed Forces of the Philippines nito ang pamahalaang Aquino. “The Armed Forces of the Philippines continues to support our duly constituted authorities amidst all allegations and controversies surrounding the circumstances of the Mamasapano incident. We remain resolute in working for inter nal peace and security and recognize that any ploy of destabilization is against the constitutional mandate to preserve the national security of the State,” pahayag pa ng Western Mindanao Command. De Lima: NBI has already identified source of 6-minute viral video of wounded PNP-SAF member MANILA - Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima said that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has already identified the source of the six-minute viral video that showed a wounded member of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) being shot at close range. “NBI has already identified kung saan nanggaling, sinong nag-upload ng video,” De Lima said in an ambush interview. The video showed a man sprawled on a cornfield in camouflage uniform who was later identified by relatives as Police Officer 1 Joseph Sagonoy, one of the

44 PNP-SAF men being shot twice at close range. The PNP-SAF commandos were on a mission to capture Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir alias “Marwan” and Filipino bomb maker Abdul Basit Usman. The video also showed the group, most of whom were armed, taking magazines and other ammunition from several other fallen men, again, in camouflage uniform. Gunfire is repeatedly heard in the background while at least two of the perpetrators shouted, “Allah hu akbar!” De Lima said that the

NBI is still working to further authenticate the video. “Because this will be used as evidence. This will not be admissible unless authenticated,” she said. “Dapat alamin, yung nag-upload ba nyan yun rin ang kumuha ng video or was it a secondary source? Para m-trace kung sino talaga ang kumuha. Whoever took that video should be the one to authenticate,” she added. De Lima said that if the one who took that video is also involved in the killing, in the whole incident, “the question is will he cooperate in affirming the video?” (PNA)

Siasi municipality celebrates 111th Foundation Day

SULU – Thousands of people celebrated the 111th founding anniversary of the island municipality of Siasi in the southern Philippine province of Sulu. The celebration also highlighted the accomplishments of the local government in peace and development efforts. Municipal officials also invited Sulu Vice Governor Sakur Tan and Hajja Nurunisah Tan, head of the Sulu Provincial Women’s Council, as guests of honor in the celebration held recently. Other municipal mayors and members of the Provincial Board and Sulu government officials also accompanied the vice governor. Medical volunteers and Dr. Farah Omar, head of the Integrated Provincial Health Office, also joined the entourage. Sulu Governor Totoh Tan, who was not able to join

the celebration due to his hectic schedule and important appointments, also sent his felicitation and his message read by his deputy before a huge crowd in the town’s center. “In the same vein, I share the essence of their theme for this year’s celebrations of Excellence in Governance: Key to Peace and Prosperity - which should be the foundation from which to jumpoff the development missions which we, in the government, should pursue with vigor and sense of purpose.” “Sulu is a province within the embrace of the sea with island municipalities and islets. Let unity, brotherhood and our common goals string us together like shining pearls of the deep never losing their values through the passage of time,” the governor said in his message. For the part of the vice

governor, he said the local government of Siasi and its people should continue to draw inspiration from its long history as it treads on the path of development and peace as encapsulated in its theme “Excellence in Governance: Key to Peace and Prosperity.” “As Tausug, we have more reasons to strive for excellence in all fields of endeavor and break the shackles that seem to arrest our march towards a brighter horizon. True peace and meaningful development are preconditioned on our cohesiveness as a people and on our resolve to effect the changes that we seek for Sulu,” he said. Hajja Tan also praised the efforts of the local officials headed by Mayor Mussah Muksan, Vice Mayor Abdel Anni and Siasi Municipal Administrator and former

The Mindanao Examiner - FOREIGN NEWS 6 Danish Police Kill Man, Investigating Jordan 2 Other Shootings in Copenhagen POLICE in Copenhagen say they have shot and killed a man early this morning who shot at them at a train station and are investigating whether he can be linked to two shootings that occurred hours earlier at a free speech event and at a synagogue. The two earlier shootings left two dead and five police officers wounded on Saturday, stirring fears that another terror spree was underway in the city. The gunman was able to flee both shootings. Police plan to hold a news conference later this morning at police headquarters. The person who was shot in the head near a Copenhagen synagogue died, Danish police announced early this morning, but there was no word on whether that incident, in which two cops were also wounded, was related to the fatal cafe shooting. The shooting Saturday night at the synagogue occurred just hours after a gunman killed one person and wounded three cops at a free speech event at a cafĂŠ in the Danish city, police said. Police were looking for at least one gunman in that attack at the Krudttoenden cafe,

which Danish officials described as terrorism and an assassination attempt. "We feel certain now that it is a politically motivated attack, and thereby it is a terrorist attack," Danish Prime Minister Helle ThorninSchmidt said of the cafe shooting. At a news conference late Saturday night, police asked residents to respect road blocks set up around the crime scenes, but said there is no curfew or lockdown in the city. Officials also said that residents should continue about their regular routine as there is a "massive presence of police in Copenhagen." Police initially said they were looking for two shooters in the attack at the cafe, but after interviews with witnesses they said they believed there was only one. They released a security photo of the suspect, showing a man in a dark coat, with what appeared to be a reddish hat and scarf covering much of his face. The shooting happened about 4 p.m. Saturday at an event titled "Art, Blasphemy and Freedom of Expression," organized by Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who has faced several threats after carica-

turing the Prophet Muhammad. "I'm not sure how many shots but I'd say about 20 or 30 shots," says Dennis Myhoff-Brink, who witnessed the attack. "And, people panicked of course and ran to the doors. Other people were hiding behind tables they had turned over." Vilks, 68, who was not injured in the shooting, said he believed he was the intended target. "What other motive could there be? It's possible it was inspired by Charlie Hebdo," he told The Associated Press. The shooting happened a month after gunmen opened fire on the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine in Paris, killing 12 people. The windows of the cafe were riddled with dozens of bullet holes, reported Danish news channel TV2. The conditions of the three officers injured were not released by police, according to the AP. The 40-year-old victim was not identified. While no one has claimed responsibility for the shooting, one of the organizers, Helle Merete Brix, told the AP he felt Vilks was targeted. "I saw a masked man running past," Brix said. "I clearly consider this as an attack on Lars Vilks."

jails Muslim Brotherhood leader

A JORDANIAN security court has sentenced a Muslim Brotherhood leader to 18 months in prison for criticising the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on social media. The court found Zaki Bani Rushaid guilty of souring ties with a foreign country, the Reuters and Turkey's semi-official Anatolia news agencies reported. According to Anatolia, the court said that an original threeyear jail sentence against Rushaid was reduced to 18 months. Rushaid's

lawyer, Saleh al-Armouti, had told Anatolia in a past interview that his client's trial was "politically driven". Rushaid, the deputy head of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan, had criticised the UAE for designating the movement as a terrorist group. He was arrested in November after writing that the UAE's rulers lacked popular legitimacy and served Israeli interests by playing a leading role in a crackdown on political Islam. Jordan's Muslim Brotherhood, the country's

biggest opposition party, has operated legally for decades and has substantial grassroots support. It has ideological ties with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, which Egyptian authorities banned in December 2013, but the two groups are not directly affiliated. Human rights activists had criticised Rushaid's arrest, saying the authorities were eroding freedom of expression and putting dissidents on trial in courts they described as unconstitutional. Egypt bombs ISIL targets in Libya after mass beheadings

EGYPT'S military has said it carried out air strikes against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) targets in Libya, a day after the group released a video appearing to show the beheading of 21 Egyptians there. In a statement aired on state television, the military said the attacks were carried out at dawn. The attacks focused on ISIL camps, training sites and weapons storage areas across Egypt's border in Libya, where armed groups have thrived amid chaos, the statement said. "The air strikes hit their targets precisely, and the falcons of our air forces returned safely to their bases," the military's statement said. "We affirm that avenging Egyptian blood and retaliating against criminals and killers is a duty we must carry out." Libyan war planes loyal to the official government also took part in the air strikes, an official said. "More air strikes will be carried out today and tomorrow in coordination with

Egypt," commander Saqer alJoroushi told al-Arabiya television. Fighters pledging allegiance to ISIL released a video purporting to show the killing of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians kidnapped in Libya. The Egyptian government and the Coptic Church confirmed the authenticity of the footage, which showed the Egyptian workers, all wearing orange jump suits, being beheaded near a waterfront said to be located in the Libyan province of Tripoli. The men were seized in two attacks in December and January from the coastal town of Sirte in eastern Libya. Urgent secur ity meeting security In the wake of the video release, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called for an urgent meeting of Egypt's top national security team and declared seven days of mourning. "Egypt reserves the right to respond in a suitable way and time to punish these murderers," Sisi said in a televised speech. The Coptic Orthodox Church issued a statement say-

ing it was "confident" the killers would be brought to justice. Al-Azhar, the prestigious Cairo-based seat of Islamic learning, denounced the "barbaric" killings. "Al-Azhar stresses that such barbaric action has nothing to do with any religion or human values," it said in a statement. Libya has slid into chaos after longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown and killed three years ago, as interim authorities failed to confront powerful militias which fought to oust the authoritarian leader. Taking advantage of the chaos, ISIL has carried out a string of deadly attacks. The group has released several propaganda videos boasting vows of allegiance from fighters in the country. In October, Ansar al-Sharia in Derna pledged allegiance to ISIL. The video comes less than two weeks after ISIL released a video showing the burning alive of a Jordanian pilot it captured after his plane went down in Syria in December. (Al Jazeera and agencies)

growth.” He said education keeps people and community healthy. “Quality education requires quality classrooms, among others. Schools should be conducive to the learning of the students,” Davide said. In this collaborative project, the provincial government will allocate P39 million as counterpart funding while local governments shall provide the logistical support and DepEd shall take care of the custody and maintenance of the completed school buildings. Anthony Dignadice, RAFI Educational Development Unit Executive Director, said the classrooms, with an area of 7×9 meters, can accommodate up to 60 students. he food subsidiary of the Aboitiz Group, Pilmico, donated 130 egg machines and piglets to more than 100 typhoon victims in the Visayas in central Philippines to help them earn and rebuild their lives after super storm Yolanda (Haiyan) ravaged the region in November 2013. Norie Bermudez, Pilmico’s Assistant Vice President for Feed Sales, said the recipients of the machines, each worth some P40,000, can help provide livelihood for all the beneficiaries of the donation. He said each machine comes complete with kit of pens and 48 six-month old readyto-lay hens with rearing cages and built-in feeding trough and waterer.

“Since the hens are ready to lay with eggs, recipients can earn every day by selling the eggs,” he said, adding, each recipient was given two sets of egg machines, excluding the twoweek free supply of feeds. “Eggs produced are organic as hens were not given chemical feeds while the hens are also fully vaccinated against diseases,” Bermudez said. He said the hens can lay eggs up to 16 months after which, the hens need to be replaced which will now be the responsibility of the recipients, who are also given technical assistance if they encounter problems. Of the 130 egg machine beneficiaries, 15 were from northern Cebu while another 15 from Ormoc and

100 came from Tacloban City, Palo and Tanauan, three of the hardest-hit areas of Yolanda. According to John Paul Pangilinan, Marketing Manager of Pilmico, the Aboitiz Group has launched the advocacy program dubbed “Bangon Visayas” after the typhoon and this eventually became the springboard to kick off the “Mahalin Pagkaing Atin” campaign a quick impact project with a fast return on investment of which the donation of the egg machine is part of the project. In December, Pilmico also distributed relief goods to some 900 victims of typhoon Seniang in the town of Ronda in southern Cebu. (MBCN, FCR)
