Supreme Court rejects petition by dismissed Marawi school official THE SUPREME COURT has rejected a petition for judicial review filed in Marawi City by a school official, whose case also prompted the High Tribunal to order a probe on a decision rendered by a lower court as well as an investigation by the Department of Education (DepEd) over corruption in schools. Director Amir

Mawallil, of the ARMM’s Bureau of Public Information, said Thursday that Mona Macatanong, a former school division superintendent, was ordered to vacate her office in May 2014 after she reached the compulsory retirement age of 65 in Oct. 2013. But Macatanong had challenged her removal as ordered by the DepEd in the Autonomous Region of

Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), saying her public birth records were defective. “Macatanong resisted and insisted on the correction of her date of birth, as affirmed by the RTC, regional trial court, in Marawi, in order to extend her tenure until 2016,” Mawallil told The Manila Times. Continue on page 5

Carmudi PH says auto sales poised to BUSINESS OPPOR TUNITY OPPORTUNITY hit 'monumental' annual growth anew MANILA - Carmudi Philippines—the local arm for the leading online vehicle platform around the world—has expressed its utmost confidence that the automotive industry is set to hit a ‘monumental sales feat for 2016. Abhishek Mohan, Carmudi Philippines Managing Director, said that the industry would easily reach the vehicle sales target following the trend seen since 2010. “I believe this year would be no different from the last half decade and a monumental vehicle sales feat is likely to occur as the industry approaches the year 2020,” he said. “Sales for the whole of 2010 was 168,000 units but almost doubled to reach over 300,000 by end 2015,” he said, adding that latest trend on vehicle sales is 45,000-unit increase per year. Mohan also cited news reports quoting Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) president Rommel Gutierrez, expecting that sales could reach 500,000 units well before 2020. “Vehicle ownership has always been an aspiration for Filipinos. Rising incomes, coupled with attractive terms that are being put up by distributors and dealers, are fueling this explosive growth in car sales,” he said. “Apart from that, I believe car makers would continue to provide more appealing payment options to try and take advantage of the Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) program.” Moreover, Mohan mentioned that last year, Philippines placed third on the fastest growing vehicle sales in Southeast Asia next to Singapore and Vietnam. With that, he urged all carmakers to further utilize the power of the internet, like tapping trusted online platforms to boost vehicles sales. According to him, the

Abhishek internet is now a dominant source of information for young Filipinos while researching their impending vehicle purchase and how carmakers engage the internet savvy population will be a strong determinant of their position in the market. Two months ago, sales for the car manufacturers showed resilience after members of the joint CAMPI-Truck Manufacturers Association, reached overall sales for 2015 of 288,609 units versus 234,747 units sold in 2014, reflecting a 22.9 percent rise. The top five performers for CAMPI were Toyota Motors Philippines Corporation, taking the lion’s share with 39.2 percent market share; followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation with 20.4-percent. Ford Motor Company Philippines, Inc. placed third with a 10.3 percent share. Not far behind were Japanese brands Isuzu Philippines Corporation with an 8.3-percent market share; and Honda

Mohan Cars Philippines, Inc. with 7.4-percent, bagging fourth and fifth spots, respectively. Gutierrez was also quoted as saying: “We estimated a lower to stable sales performance for January since December has just ended. We will continue to offer products to meet the increasing customer demand.”

Teleperformance offers tips on how to be successful in your first job LEAVING the comforts of college campus life could be one of the unsettling experiences for new graduates. Couple that with the fact that there are over 650,000 college graduates who are expected to join the labor force this year, which means a fresh graduate looking for work will have to toughly compete for that “first job.” Getting a call from an employer informing you of your successful application is one of the most memorable messages you will ever receive. But what does having a first job feel like? How does one cope with the new corporate environment? As an organization that cultivates a culture of excellence around its core values, Teleperformance, the world’s leading provider of outsourced customer experience management services, offers some tips on how to be successful in your first job: 1. Learn to respect others. Treat others with kindness and empathy. As a new employee, you will be exposed to an environment where every individual has a unique set of values, characteristics, beliefs and ideas. It is therefore important to consider this aspect when dealing with your peers to ensure that you have a healthy atmosphere within the organization. Learn to put yourself in another person’s shoes. Take time to cultivate what each employee has to offer because respect begets respect.

2. Maintain a high level of professionalism. Do things right the very first time. Make it a point to create an atmosphere that fosters better relationship within your workplace rather than ignite conflicts. Address work-related issues head on instead of ranting about it on social media or making gossips within the office. As always, the best way to move forward is to fix the problem rather than blame people. Take note that through our talents and skills, we transform interactions into golden experiences. 3. Show your commitment. Be passionate and engaged. Embrace and understand your contribution to an organization and learn to love what you are doing. Keep in mind that the lack of passion in what you do can cause you to be uninterested

in your work, which can slowly lead you to abandoning your job. Remember, commitment ignites our actions and drives our performance. It fuels our passion to do our job well. 4. Demonstrate integrity every day. Say what you do and do what you say. One’s integrity plays a crucial role for a career to flourish and for a business to succeed. Hence, learn to build a persona of unquestionable integrity by displaying honesty and moral uprightness and by religiously upholding the mission and vision of your organization. 5. Continue to innovate. Create and improve. Continuously learn to think out of the box for the good of the organization instead of being tied up to your job description. Leave behind your “what ifs” as this can hamper

your growth and the advancement of the business. It’s always best to go beyond the extra mile in performing your tasks. “These characteristics are vital to one’s survival and growth in the corporate world,” said Rachel Cacabelos, Vice President for Human Resources of Teleperformance Philippines. “These form part of the basic skills set that may be expected of new employees. At Teleperformance, we warmly welcome new employees and help them build a progressive career in an organization that values respect, professionalism, commitment, integrity and innovation. Our corporate values guide us in our daily tasks to transform our passion into excellence."

Women’s rights awareness highlights Women’s Month celebration in ARMM COTABATO CITY – Awareness of women’s rights highlighted this year’s regional celebration of the National Women’s Month, an event led by the Regional Human Rights Commission in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (RHRCARMM). The celebration was attended by more than 100 participants – mostly women from Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao – and was held at the town’s gymnasium on March 29. Atty. Abdulnasser Badrudin, RHRC-ARMM chairperson, encouraged the participants, to exercise their rights, and respect other people’s rights too. “March is recognized as women’s month. This recognition comes with the acknowledgement and respect for women’s rights, functions and responsibilities in society,” Badrudin said. The celebration, which bears the theme

‘Kapakanan ni Fatima, Isama sa Agenda!’, also aims at inspiring women in asserting their rights for the fulfilment of their obligations, and to strengthen the advocacy of women’s month. “The essence of the celebration is to help each other and build each other to improve our welfare through awareness of women’s r ights,” said Zuhairah Abas, head of RHRCARMM’s Education, Communication and Linkages Division. Shari’ah Counselor Bai Indira Sharrah Ibrahim-Sinsuat gave a lecture on women and inheritance rights in accordance with Presidential Decree 1083, or the Code of Muslim Personal Laws in the Philippines. Thirty-six years old Abneria Undong from Brgy. Tambak said the lecture provided useful and enlightening information, especially about the mutual rights and obligations of a Muslim

couple. “Makadsukor sukor ta ka nakasiya silan namandu sa kawagib na Muslim a egkalumaya ( We are thankful that they went here to teach us of our rights,” Undong said. “Masela e kinapamandu nin sa lekami egkalumaya (The lecture was appropriately educative for us couple),” Undong added. The celebration included the artwork exhibit of Islamic calligraphy artist Zohayma Montaner, Al Hadj, who won 11 international and two national awards for visual arts. The program was conducted by RHRCARMM in partnership with the local government unit of Datu Odin Sinsuat, Datu Odin Sinsuat Women Producers Cooperative, Bureau on Cultural Heritage-ARMM, Del Monte-Delinanas Development Corp., and Regional Commission on Bangsamoro WomenARMM. Jakarta readies commandos to rescue Indons held by Sayyaf

Continued fr om page 1 from The boat was heading to Batangas province in Luzon in the Philippines gunmen intercepted them near Languyan Island on March 26. It was unknown why the Philippine military and police forces failed to protect the Indonesian boat despite the huge presence of security forces in Tawi-Tawi due to nickel mining operations in Languyan. Indonesia said it is also coordinating with the Interpol after the Abu Sayyaf demanded P50 million ransoms for the safe release of the hostages. The Abu Sayyaf, whose group is coddling Malaysian and Indonesian militants in southern Philippines, has pledged allegiance with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, and fighting for a caliphate in the troubled region where secur ity forces are also battling communist insurgency. The report of the hi-

jacking was first reported by Peter Tonsen Barahama, the tugboat’s skipper, after he wrote on his Facebook account that “Tug boat Brahma 12 is being hijacked, all crew are being held hostage by Abu Sayyaf. Pray for our safety and God’s protection.” The Jakarta Post, in a report, also said information about the hijacking first came to light via the Facebook account of Barahama. “The information then spread to an Indonesian sailors group. However, Peter’s friends have not been able to contact him to obtain further information. Peter is from Sangihe Island in North Sulawesi,” the report said. The tugboat, owned by Patria Maritime Lines, is reportedly negotiating with the hostage-takers to secure the safe release of the victims. One of Barahama’s friends, Welmy Loway, said the tugboat was carrying coal. He and other friends then contacted the Indonesian foreign ministry

and authorities in Sangihe to check the information and seek help for the crewmembers. Pirates and other criminal gangs are also actively operating in Tawi-Tawi, one of five provinces under the restive Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. In February 2012, Abu Sayyaf rebels under subleader Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan and Moro National Liberation Front members kidnapped two European wildlife photographers Lorenzo Vinciguerra, from Switzerland; and Ewold Horn, 54, from Holland, in the coastal village of Parangan in Panglima Sugala town in Tawi-Tawi. Vinciguerra had escaped from his guards in December 2014 after he allegedly killed one of his guards - Juhurim Hussien - with a bolo and recovered by soldiers. The fate of Horn is still unknown, and aside from him, the Abu Sayyaf is still holding several other foreigners in the Muslim region. (Mindanao Examiner)

ARMM gubernatorial candidate Dr Sakur Tan (DHum)

ARMM gubernatorial bet Sakur Tan vows for clean, honest elections COTABATO CITY – Philanthropist Sulu Vice Governor Sakur Tan - who is running for governor in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao - has on Saturday vowed to support the poll body’s call for clean and honest elections despite black propaganda and smear campaign launched by his political foes who fear imminent defeat in the May elections. Tan, an influential politician and member of President Aquino’s Liberal Party, has also appealed to his supporters and followers in the ARMM to campaign based on his platform of honest and transparent governance, and genuine reform.

“We have always been supporting (the Commission on Elections) and advocating free, honest and peaceful elections not only in Sulu, but elsewhere in the Muslim autonomous region. In fact, Sulu was among the provinces in the country that has had peaceful elections in the past,” he said. Tan said his multitude of supporters and leaders in Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao, and Lanao del Sur have committed to peacefully campaign based on his platform of clean governance and integrity. “This elections isn’t about me anymore, this is about the future of our

people, our children and our region. Genuine reform is really needed to bring even the basic services to the people, equality and transparency. We cannot allow a one-man rule in the ARMM because this is supposed to be a democratic government where we need to listen to all the sectors in society,” he said. Tan, whose legacy in Sulu included many projects on infrastructure, peace and development projects, is being supported by political leaders in the ARMM and various groups, civil society and nongovernmental organizations, the religious and business sectors and the youth. NPC Dares Bets: Reveal Stand On Media Killings, Impunity Continued fr om page 1 from On the occasion of the NPC’s 63rd anniversary in October last year, the group posed a challenge to those gunning for the presidency and the vice presidency to discuss on what they intend to do to end the senseless media killings and the culture of impunity in the country. “With only a few weeks remaining before the May 9 polls, we reiterate our call for them to say their piece and satisfy our eagerness to hear them speak and be heard for the sake of our murdered brothers and sisters in the profession and others like us who continue to dwell in fear in the face of these unabated killings,” Egco stressed.

The NPC president at the same time scored the administration of President Benigno Aquino 3rd for not paying serious attention to the problem, the solution of which he only entrusted to underlings who utterly lack dedication. “It is in the interest of justice that we vet who among our future leaders value press freedom equally as human rights, both of which are vital components of a truly free and democratic nation. We should know who among them have journalist blood on their hands and those who have not. Most importantly, we must know how they would be able to avoid committing the same mistakes as the present and previous

administrations did in relation to media murders and intimidation,” Egco emphasized. He claimed the government is never passionate about the matter, paying only “lip service” and “unfulfilled promises” to calls for justice. Earlier this year, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has identified the Philippines as world's second most dangerous place for journalists second to Iraq, where at least 309 journalists have been killed in recent years. For the past 25 years, the organization said 146 journalists were murdered in the Philippines, about 30 of which happened during the time of Aquino.

BASILAN – Government troops killed a Malaysian militant in a recent clash with Abu Sayyaf rebels in the troubled province of Basilan in the Muslim autonomous region in southern Philippines, a military report said. It said hundreds of army troops and progovernment militias launched the weekend assault against the Abu Sayyaf in the village of Macalang in Al-Barka town, a known stronghold of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front which signed an interim peace deal with Manila in 2014. A small team of MILF members led by Pulon Kulalul also joined the army in fighting the Abu Sayyaf. Two militias – Allahero Ujajin and Sarip Alista –

were injured in the clash after they tripped on an Abu Sayyaf landmine in the village. Troops also recovered the body of the slain militant, but his name was not immediately made available by the military except that he was a Malaysian national fighting alongside the Abu Sayyaf. At least 6 improvised explosives were also recovered from the encampment of the Abu Sayyaf in Sitio Bohe Buug. It was the second time that security forces killed a Malaysian militant in the province. In December last year, military forces also killed a Malaysian bomb expert -Mohammad Hussein during clashes with the Abu Sayyaf also in Macalang village.

On March 25, government troops also killed an Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Eric Ajibun and one of his followers in fierce clashes that left 5 soldiers and two militias wounded in Al-Barka town. Troops launched an operation dubbed “Oplan Urgent Fury 2” against the Abu Sayyaf following deadly clashes between the MILF and the jihadist group on March 23 that killed Haipa Isnilon, son of a key Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon. MILF forces ambushed Haipa’s group which was reported to be trying to set up a camp in the area which the villagers and the former rebel group strongly opposed. (Mindanao Examiner. Supreme Court rejects petition by Basilan now base of Malaysian militants dismissed Marawi school official Continued fr om page 1 from He added that the Supreme Court also directed the Office of the Court Administrator and the Office of the Bar Confidant to conduct an investigation regarding the RTC’s “highly questionable” handling of Macatanong’s petition for correction of her date of birth. “Macatanong’s case caused a backlog in the Marawi City Schools Division as it interrupted the process of promotion among teachers mandated by law,” Mawallil stressed. He also said the DepEd is investigating reports that aspiring teachers had allegedly paid as much as P300,000 for a job in Marawi City.

Mawallil said the DepEd had appealed the RTC decision and eventually appointed Farida Sansarona as officer-incharge of the school division. Sansarona was the former assistant school division superintendent. Despite this, Macatanong continued acting as division superintendent that resulted in confusion among publicschool teachers and affected the DepEd operations in Marawi City. “Macatanong also went to the Supreme Court and filed a motion for certiorari, but this was denied by the High Court,” Mawallil said. He added that the legal proceedings against the former education of-

ficial had dragged on for two years and “the decision of the Supreme Court is a welcome development to all as this will set the record straight once and for all.” Mawallil said ARMM Education Secretary John Magno also expressed relief. “We pursued legal action because we knew that the rule of law was on our side and this Supreme Cour t decision affirms our position,” he quoted Magno as saying. There was no immediate statement from Macatanong, but her followers had repeatedly besmirched the reputations of Magno and that of ARMM Gov. Mujiv Hataman on social media following her removal from office.

300 Sulu households receive livelihood assistance from PAMANA program through DSWD-ARMM SULU – At least 300 households in Talipao, Sulu received livelihood assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DSWD-ARMM) under the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) Program Expansion Cycle 2. The households are members of 10 beneficiary cooperatives in the town, namely: Andalan Talipao Agricultural Producers Cooperative; Buntod Agricultural Producers Cooperative; Kabatuhan Bilaan Abdulsalam Agricultural Producers Cooperative; Jambangan Kabatuhan Tiis Agricultural Producer Cooperative; Kahawa Agricultural Producer Cooperative; Kandaga Agricultural

Producer Cooperative; Kanlibot Agricultural Producer Cooperative; Lower Laus Agricultural Producer Cooperative; Mungit-Mungit Agricultural Producer Cooperative; and, Upper Kamuntayan Agricultural Producer Cooperative. the vulcanizing and sewing machines will provide alternative sources of income for the residents,” Ensanah said. Aiman Abdul Albani, 45, from Batuan-Bilaan in Talipao, Sulu, expressed her gratitude to the agency. She said the assistance will help uplift the economic condition of her family. “Magsarang sukol kami kanyo katan, biang katatabangan nyu kamo, in kame mga taw miskin, natabangan mga makina, mga pukot, grarihilan nyu kame sing kamo nanghinan tasan. Mayor Tulawie recognized the support the PAMANA program provides to boost agricultural harvest in Talipao. She extended her gratitude to DSWD-ARMM and the program and has renewed her commitment to the future ventures of PAMANA especially in her municipality. The PAMANA is a program aimed at making citizens become stronger agents of peace and development in the region, and in the country. This is the current administration’s peace and development framework anchored on providing inclusive growth and lasting peace in Mindanao. (Bureau of Public Information)

OPINION: Is God fair? By Brother Danilo Cuarteros sovereignly chosen (Romans 8:29-30; Ephesians 1:5, 11). This does not seem "fair" in the eyes of those who believe fairness requires everyone to be treated exactly the same way. In election, it appears that God is not treating all people equally. However, God does not have to choose anyone. Again, it would be entirely fair for everyone to spend eternity in hell. God's saving some is not unfair to those who remain unsaved, as they are receiving precisely what they deserve. Those whom God has chosen are receiving God's love and grace. But, when God draws our hearts and opens our minds, we have the oppor-

tunity to respond to the revelation of the creation around us (Psalm 19:1-3) and the conscience within us (Romans 2:15) and turn to God. Those who do not respond will receive what they truly deserve because of their rejection of Him. Their punishment is fair (John 3:18, 36). Those who believe are receiving far better than they deserve. No one, though, is being punished beyond what he or she deserves. Is God fair? Yes. He is also gracious, merciful, and forgiving. Thru the leading prayer of God's end time Prophet, our Beloved and Honorable Evangelist Pastor Wilde Estrada Almeda, we can convince the CPP/NPA/ NDF in Jesus name!

IN MANY people's minds, fairness is everyone receiving exactly what he or she deserves. If God were completely "fair," by this definition, we would all spend eternity in hell paying for our sin, which is exactly what we deserve. We have all sinned against God (Romans 3:23) and are therefore worthy of eternal death (Romans 6:23). If we "fairly" received what we deserve, we would end up in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:14-15). But God is merciful and good, so He manifested in the flesh and die on the cross in our place, taking the punishment that we deserve (2 Corinthians 5:21). All we have to do is believe in Christ and receive water baptism in Jesus name (Acts 2:38) and we will be saved, and we will receive an eternal home in heaven (John 3:16). With the sacrifice of Christ, God maintains His "fairness" in that sin is adequately punished. A synonym for fair is just, and the Bible is unequivocal that God is just: "He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright

and just is he" (Deuteronomy 32:4; see also 2 Chronicles 19:7; Romans 9:14; and 2 Thessalonians 1:6). God is "fair" in that He is unbiased, honest, and just. Peter, standing in a Gentile's home and seeing the work of the Holy Spirit, said, "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right" (Acts 10:34-35). God is eminently fair. He treats no one wrongly. Despite God's loving grace, no one would believe in Him on his own (Romans 3:10-18). God has to draw us to Himself in order for us to believe ( John 6:44). God does not draw everyone, but only certain people He has

TECH TIPS: How to fix a phone that won't charge properly If your battery isn't charging properly, don't immediately assume your phone charger or your battery is broken. Based on personal experience, the problem – and solution – may be much simpler than you think. If your phone or tablet isn't charging properly or at all, take a look at these 10 ways to fix a phone that won't charge. Why a phone doesn't char ge charge The problem occurs in various degrees. Either your phone won't charge at all when it is plugged in, or it will only charge very slowly (sometimes barely faster than it is discharging). It’s a very common complaint, so here are a few solutions. 1. Do-I t-Y ourself USB por Do-It-Y t-Yourself portt fix The quickest, easiest, and often most successful solution, is to do a little DIY repair on your actual hardware. The problem is often that the metallic surfaces inside the USB port and the microUSB charger are not making good contact, either through a manufacturing defect or because of the continual plugging and unplugging of the charging cable. All you need to do is shut down your device, remove the battery if possible and use something small, such as a toothpick, to 'lever up' the little tab inside the USB port on your smartphone or tablet. Do so very carefully and gently, then reinsert your battery and plug it in again. Nine times out of 10 this is all that is required. 2. R emo ve lint, candy and Remo emov dust Do you keep your phone in the pocket of your jeans? If so, lint could be the culprit: we've lost track of the number of times the reason for unreliable USB charging turned out to be lint from the pocket of our Levis. We've seen phones with charging ports choked with chocolate after they were chucked in a handbag alongside a packet of sweets. A can of compressed air can blow out the offending irritants and get your USB connection back to normal. 3. S witch cables Switch The flimsiest part of a charger is the cable, not the adapter that plugs into the wall socket. Apple users are particularly vulnerable here because Apple's proprietary (and expensive) Lightning cables appear to have a life expectancy of around 15 minutes. But all cables have a tough life, and endless flexing and curling can take its toll. Substituting a random USB cable for the one that came with your phone is another shortcut to an unenjoyable charging experience. The easiest way to diagnose a faulty cable is to try a different one and see if that works properly with your device. If it does, you know the original cable was at fault. If it doesn't, that's another potential villain we've ruled out. 4. D iagnose a dodgy Diagnose adapter If the cable doesn't seem to be the problem, check the wall plug adapter – especially

if it's one where the charging cable can be removed. We've encountered issues in multiple chargers where the USB port becomes a little loose after endlessly plugging in and unplugging the cable. Also check whether the same charger/cable combination works on a different device, because this will help you eliminate the possibility that it is your device at fault, rather than the cable or charger. You should also make sure there isn't a problem with your wall socket. 5. R emember – safety first Remember Don't charge your phone near water or in excessively hot or humid conditions. Do not overcharge your device; charging overnight when your battery only needs two or three hours is a bad idea, and can lead to a battery exploding or damaging your phone. While your phone has a cut-off switch for your battery, sometimes this doesn't work (you might remember all those exploding battery stories back in 2013). It's better to be safe than sorry. Or burnt to a crisp. If you're replacing a charger or cable, be wary: the internet is stuffed with reports of cheap third-party chargers that went bang in the middle of the night or turned smartphones into toast. As with any electrical equipment, make sure that anything you buy complies with all the relevant safety standards. To give you an idea of how much energy is stored in your battery, check this video out (but don't try it at home). 6. R eplace the batter y Replace battery Batteries don't last forever, and after a couple of years they start to struggle to hold a charge. The more often you discharge and recharge them, the sooner they'll need replacing. If your battery's busted after just six months, it's probably faulty and you should make a warranty claim for a free replacement, but if the battery's older than two years, it's probably approaching the end of its lifespan. Some defective batteries are easy to spot because they start to bulge or leak fluid. If nothing like that is obvious from the outside, remove your device's cover and inspect the battery (if you can; some devices have sealed battery compartments). If the cover doesn't come off, you could try laying the device on its back and spinning it. A bulging battery will deform the case – you might not be able to see this bulge, but it might be enough to allow your phone to spin. If you suspect your battery might be swollen or leaking, get your phone to a repair shop and buy a reputable replacement. 7. Char ge fr om the rright ight Charge from sour ce source Charging from a wall socket will always be faster than charging via PC or laptop, because computers' USB ports don't deliver very much power. A wall socket can deliver twice as much power as a USB port, and fast chargers it can deliver as much as five times the power

– which means much, much faster charging. So if your phone is charging slowly and you're connected to a laptop: there's your problem. If your wall charger doesn't appear to be delivering the goods, check that it's appropriate for your device. A charger from another phone might not deliver the right amount of juice — for example, a charger for a Bluetooth headset won't put out as much power as one designed specifically for smartphones. In the case of recent high-end phones, you might have a phone that supports fast charging but a charger that doesn't deliver it. Read the fine-print. 8. U pdate or rroll oll back Update Software updates and new Android versions can wreak havoc with your battery life, especially when upgrading an old device to current software. Newer devices are often optimized to take advantage of the latest software, whereas a twoyear-old device can struggle when it gets updated. If this happens to you and you can't troubleshoot the problem, consider rolling the device back to an earlier Android version, though be warned that this carries security risks. The latest software versions are always recommended to keep your device protected, and while the risk of keeping your smartphone on an older version is often negligible, it’s worth noting. Similarly, sometimes device battery life can be significantly improved by an update, so if you think you might be way behind on your Android software version, head to Settings > About phone to check for an update. 9. S witch it off Switch Using battery-intensive apps/features while you are charging your device will affect how quickly it gains battery life. If you are charging while Skyping somebody at 100 percent brightness, the device will naturally take longer to charge than it would with its screen, Wi-Fi and 4G turned off. Switch the device to airplane mode, or off completely, when you are charging if you want to see the fastest energy injection. Think of it making your device take a power nap. 10. C alibr ate yyour our batter y Calibr alibrate battery Sometimes the battery level your device 'thinks' it's at is wrong. The effect of this is that your phone may function differently, including limiting performance before it needs to or taking an hour to chew through the last two percent of battery. We’ve already written an extensive guide on how to calibrate your smartphone battery, so I won’t retype it all here, but this is a thing to try before completely ditching your defunct power pack. If all else fails, doublecheck that you have the power point switched on. That is the first thing they will ask you if you call your manufacturer for help, which might need to be your next step if none of these solutions have worked for you. (Kris Carlon, AndroidPIT)

4. Nagpapaluwag ng baradong ilong dulot ng

sinusitis at sipon. 5. Good luck po.

DUMAGUETE CITY - Sulu Vice Governor Sakur Tan – who is running for governor in the Muslim autonomous region in southern Philippines – has strongly opposed any proposal to dismember Mindanao, saying, there should be unity instead among all Filipinos in there. “There should be unity because we are all Filipinos,” Tan was quoted as saying by the Visayan Daily Star. It said Tan did not agree with proposals by some groups to divide Mindanao. “He doesn't like the idea that certain groups and communities in Mindanao will be placed on one side and the others on another side,” the newspaper report said, referring to Tan, who recently visited Dumaguete City and other parts of Negros Oriental province. Tan said he would have

wished that the image of Mindanao be like that of Dumaguete, Cebu and the rest of the Visayan region where peace and tranquillity dominate. “Our image in Mindanao is not that good compared to yours in the Visayas,” he said, adding he wanted to change the misconception about the Muslims in Mindanao. He reiterated his vehement objection to the passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law that the Moro Islamic Liberation Front – which signed an interim peace deal with Manila – is pushing in Congress. Tan also thanked the Dumagueteños and Negrenses for being “good to the Tausug” as he reminisced his high school days in Silliman University where he studied in 1963. He said whether there is an election or not, he will al-

ways come back to visit here because Dumagueteños are peaceloving citizens. Tan also took the opportunity to campaign in here and in Negros Oriental for the Kusog-Tausug party-list, whose first nominee is Shernee Tan, a civic leader. He said the party-list group is not only for the Tausug in Mindanao, but for all Filipinos, including those in Dumaguete and Negros Oriental. Tan, who was with his philanthropic wife, Nurunisah – a registered nurse by profession – also paid their courtesy to Governor Roel Degamo and visited Bacong town mayoralty candidate Joeny Cahilog, who hails from Mindanao.
