MNLF continues peaceful efforts to free Sayyaf captives SULU – Former rebel group Moro National Liberation continues to exert efforts in seeking the release of Abu Sayyaf hostages in the southern Filipino province of Sulu following the safe recovery of 4 Indonesian sailors in the town of Indanan. Abu Sayyaf jihadists last week freed four Indonesian tugboat crewmen after a series of negotiations by the MNLF chieftain Nur Misuari who persuaded the kidnappers to release the sailors without ransoms, according to provincial governor Totoh Tan, who received the Indonesians in his home in Jolo town. Misuari’s wife,

Tarhata, and former Indonesian army general Kivlan Zein accompanied the sailors – Mochammad Ariyanto Mijnan, Lorens Peter, Dede Irfan Hilmi and Samsir and handed them over to Tan. Zein sought Misuari’s help – for the second time - in the safe release of the hostages who were freed in Indanan town. Zein also briefed Tan on the role of Misuari in persuading the Abu Sayyaf to release the sailors, who were all tugboat crew members kidnapped last month at sea off TawiTawi province near the Sabah border, and brought them to Sulu province. No ransom was paid for the freedom of the Indonesians,” Tan, chairman of the local crisis management committee, told the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner. No one from among the hostages spoke, but they all thanked Tan and shook hands with him. Sulu Vice Governor Sakur Tan was also present during the meeting. Zein also praised Misuari and Tan and the

Philippine government in their role in securing the freedom of the Indonesians. “We thanked Brother Nur, the MNLF, Governor Tan and the Philippine government and all those who helped in securing the safe release of the hostages,” he said. Tan said the Indonesians were brought to a military hospital in Jolo town for a routine medical examination before being handed over to Indonesian government officials. Just last month, Misuari also sought the release of 10 Indonesian tugboat crew members kidnapped by the

Abu Sayyaf in Tawi-Tawi province after Zein appealed to the MNLF to help Jakarta in freeing the hostages. The seamen were brought by the MNLF at the residence of Tan who handed the, over to the authorities. The Abu Sayyaf – which pledged allegiance with the Islamic State militant group - is still holding four Malaysian sailors, a Canadian man, a Norwegian resort manager, a Dutch photographer and a Japanese treasure hunter in southern Philippines.

“Without Misuari's knowledge, Tahir communicated with Grand Alpha, who said they should hold back their troops and not make any offensive moves against the group as the hostages' lives would be at risk. Later, Grand Alpha's team decided to step in to the rescue efforts as they knew the Indonesian government had negotiated with the wrong party. They were afraid that if a ransom was paid, the hostages would not be freed as there were a lot of similar cases going on,” ayon pa sa ulat.

“The negotiations instead comprised people-to-people dialogue, involving a respected figure from the Moro National Liberation Front), which was made possible due to a friendly promise made by the Sukma Foundation's humanitarian team to provide aid to support young generations of the Moro tribe in the Philippines.” “Grand Alpha said [to Tawing] that there is bigger opportunity than just transactions...bigger opportunities for Moro people's

future, education and welfare,” ayon pa sa source ng Jakarta Post na may alam sa nasabing pangyayari. “Grand Alpha had convinced the militants and said Indonesian Muslims were the only Asian neighbor that had good relations and could help Moro people with a peace process, as well as educational assistance and other transformative projects.”

TECH TIPS: Best dual-SIM Android smartphones

Payo ni Dr. Willie T. Ong

HEALTH: Kumain ng Almusal: Para Tumalino at Lumakas

Xiaomi Mi 5: a blockbuster at the price of a mid-range smartphone. (AndroidPIT) THE NUMBER of dual-SIM smartphones within the Android ecosystem has increased rapidly during the past few years. Being able to run two SIM cards simultaneously without having to pop out the SIM tray is a convenient feature that is fast becoming standard hardware for Android phones. Here is our list of the best dual-SIM Android phones. Xiaomi M Mii 5: the most po wer ful dual-SIM pow erful smar tphone smartphone The Xiaomi Mi 5 competes with flagship smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the LG G5. The Mi 5 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, currently the fastest processor from US manufacturer Qualcomm, plus contains a lot of internal memory. It has, of course, a dual-SIM card slot as well. Although it’s a great Chinese Android phone, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is not commercially available in the United States. You’ll need to buy one online – but we think it’s worth the effort. Honor 7: the best allround dual-SIM smar tphone smartphone The Honor 7 provides value-for-money that other smartphones struggle to match. In our

review, we wrote that we were impressed by its design, fast fingerprint sensor and good battery life. The Honor 7 has dual-SIM support, 16 GB of memory and costs around $369. In late February, Honor released the EMUI 4.0 updated, which is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Overall, the Honor 7 is good value and, if you’re looking for a dual-SIM device right now, it’s hard to beat. Moto G (2014): the best budget dual-SIM smar tphone smartphone For a bargain price you can get a Motorola Moto G (2014). We were surprised by the breadth of features it has when we reviewed it. Its 5-inch HD display is better than many others in its price range, which was $179 on release. In contrast to the devices above, with the Moto G you can insert not only two SIM cards, but also a microSD card. In terms of hardware, the Moto G performs better than similarly-equipped competitors thanks to its clean software. With the ability to insert a second SIM and microSD card, it offers flexibility as well as a welcome boost to internal memory in light of its slim internal memory of only 8 GB. Huaw ei P8 Lite: the best uawei

dual-SIM smar tphone smartphone for affor dable beauty affordable The dual-SIM Huawei P8 Lite is half as powerful as its big brother, the Huawei P8, but also costs half as much. Unlike the dual-SIM variant of the Moto G it supports LTE, has a better camera and also looks better. And inside you get double of everything that the Moto G has: 2 GB RAM, 16 GB flash memory (expandable if you only use one SIM card) and eight cores. This is very reasonable for the price. In addition to its good specs and reasonable performance, its premium look makes the P8 Lite a winner. It looks like a premium device, rather than a budget mid-ranger, when you slip it from your pocket. Honor 5X: the best dualSIM smar tphone with smartphone par allel micr oSD supparallel microSD por portt Although the dual-SIM Honor 5X may not be as powerful as the Honor 7, it has one big advantage over the others. You can choose to either use two SIM cards or one SIM plus a microSD card, but with the Honor 5X, you can use them all at once. Even better is that this 5.5-inch smartphone costs only $199. (Omar Hamwi, AndroidPIT)
