“We thank Chairman Nur Misuari for facilitating the negotiation between the PNP headed by Colonel Kirby John Kraft, (the) Davao City (Police) Director and Edang Susukan,” ani Gamboa. “The PNP immediately advised (Davao) Mayor Inday Sara Duterte who assured us of her full cooperation and assistance, to ensure the peaceful handover and orderly transfer of custody to proper authorities,” dagdag pa nito. “What I know is he ar-

ranged for the surrender. So, in terms of criminal liability, it seems highly unlikely because he arranged for Susukan’s surrender. Susukan was not arrested while he was being harbored by Nur Misuari. That’s not the case. It appears that he arranged for authorities to come to apprehend Susukan in his residence on that day,” paliwanag pa ni Roque.

“We have no confirmation of Susukan’s surrender to Misuari or his reported trip to Davao City. We consider Susukan a wanted man,” ani Major Arvin Encinas, ang spokesman ng Western Mindanao Command. (Mindanao Examiner)

Hunt continues for 4 escaped prisoners PAGADIAN CITY – The police continue the hunt for prisoners who bolted jail in the town of President Manuel Roxas in Zamboanga del Norte province, officials said. Brigadier General Jesus Cambay Jr, the regional police chief, said tracking teams have been dispatched to hunt down the prisoners - Welly Celino Catoy, 23; Robert Quinicar Quinto, 46; Wilfredo Antiquino Espelita, 19; Roger Barillo Feras. “I already directed the

(town’s) Chief of Police to conduct manhunt operations and to recapture the escapees, and also enjoined all police units within Zamboanga del Norte, to man possible routes of escape to ensure that escapees cannot pass through the immediate proximity,” he said. The prisoners escaped at dawn last Thursday after sewing off the iron bars of their detention cell using guitar string while under heavy rains. It was unclear how

the string was sneaked into the cell. “The families and relatives of the escapees are urged to report and surrender them to the nearest police station so as not to aggravate the situation for after all, they are not yet guilty but merely held for investigation and trial,” Cambay said. Cambay did not say whether the guards or the police commander were relieved from their posts or not. (Zamboanga Post and Mindanao Examiner)

In fact, halos ay wala nga

“If I want to go to Singapore, I will go to Singapore. If it is a private undertaking, I will go there

fly-in, fly-out. Stop this nonsense about me going to Singapore. I do not have to keep it secret because I will not be using government funds.

“I am a citizen of this country. The right to travel is guaranteed. “Ang isang leader will always stay where the crisis is.

Would personal air purifiers keep us all healthy? ‘Common-sense hygiene may be a better defense, experts suggest’ Continued from page 1 which are then repulsed from the user because like-charged particles repel each other. Wein partially funded research at the University of Cincinnati to test its product. The results were published in the journal Indoor Air in 2005. Overall, the device was found to clear the air of half of

the test particles in 15 minutes and almost all of the particles in an hour and a half. However, some experts are skeptical. Darryl Zeldin, scientific director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, says, “It sounds like it worked in a laboratory setting, but that doesn’t say anything

about whether it works in real life.” For instance, some researchers argue the purifiers may struggle to actually clear air. “If you sit next to a person in an airplane, this person will sneeze and cough during the entire eight-hour flight,” says Werner Bischoff, an infectious disease specialist at Wake Forest Baptist

Medical Center. Moreover, many harmful germs are transferred via infected surfaces—which are unaffected by the purifier. Sergey Grinshpun, who the led the study, acknowledges that shortcoming, but adds “at least you reduce inhalation exposure.” Anecdotally, representatives from Wein and

other manufacturers say that customer feedback has been positive. However, according to the Wall Street Journal, some of the devices’ infection-fighting prowess may be the result of the antibacterial effect created by air pollutants, such as ozone. Stanley Weinberg, CEO and chairman of Wein, says his company’s product emits

only a small amount of ozone. Ultimately, Bischoff says other common-sense methods might be a better way to guard yourself against infection than the purifiers. For instance, avoid touching your nose or mouth while on an airplane, he suggests (Johannes, Wall Street Journal)

Women and Children Law.

Church told to hold virtual mass

(CathNews NZ) AMID THE continued implementation of nationwide community quarantine, Malacañang asked the Catholic Church to remain patient and just continue doing “online” mass to keep the public safe from the deadly coronavirus disease. Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque advised the church to follow the latest and temporary guidelines on the conduct of religious gatherings in the country. “Pu-pwede naman po na mag-online tayo sa ngayon at obserbahan muna natin ‘yung 10 persons dahil ito naman po ay temporary lamang,” he said.

ARMM

In July, the national government allowed the resumption of religious activities in areas placed under general community quarantine (GCQ), but only at 10 percent of seating capacity. However, the request to impose a stricter GCQ until August 31 was approved last week, allowing the government to modify its omnibus guidelines on the implementation of community quarantine in the country. Under the GCQ, only 10 persons are allowed to join mass gatherings, including religious activities. Manila Archdiocese apostolic administrator Bishop Broderick Pabillo branded as “illogical” the government’s latest move to limit the number of people who can participate in religious services. Roque, however, said the fresh directive on the

conduct of religious gatherings was merely temporary. Hindi naman po ito forever,” he said, adding, the national government has to impose limitations on religious activities to prevent further transmission of Covid-19 infections. GCQ is imposed in Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, and Talisay, as well as the municipalities of Minglanilla and Consolacion in Cebu province; and Iloilo, Metro-Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Nueva Ecija, Batangas and Modified GCQ is implemented in the rest of the country. tional Task Force Against Covid-19 and the Department of the Interior and Local Government are directed to ensure that areas flagged for local action shall implement strict lockdown of areas in line with the zoning

containment strategy, strict enforcement of minimum public health standards, and intensified tracing and quarantine of close contacts and isolation of confirmed cases. (Cebu Examiner)

“They have to show proof, either identification card, certification from the barangay, or any document showing that both the rider and the back rider have the same address to avoid being apprehended and cited for violation of the rules on pillion riding,” ani Eleazar. “Under the protocol, riders not living in the same house must have

The driver may or may not be an APOR and the motorcycle must be privately owned and not for hire. Motorcycle barriers would remain as a requirement for drivers and back riders who are not living in the same house, even if they are relatives.,” dagdag pa ng opisyal. (Mindanao Examiner)
