Sulu suspends public travels

ARMM
local task force Covid-19, signed the order which took effect on October 16. He said exempted from the order are those whose travel is official and emergency purposes. The
wearing of face masks and face shields, he added, are also strictly followed. He recently met with municipal mayors and heads of government agencies at the Sulu Area Coordinating Center and discussed measures on how to further contain the spread of the deadly respiratory disease. Tan said contact tracing is also continuing in the province to locate those who have physical or close contacts with people who have Covid-19. There are now a total of 41 confirmed Covid-19 cases and six deaths in Sulu, according to the Ministry of Health. Sulu has the lowest number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the Muslim autonomous region due to strict quarantine measures imposed by Tan since the start of the pandemic in March. Lanao del Sur has the highest Covid-19 cases with 750; Maguindanao with 233 cases; Basilan with 132; and Tawi-Tawi with 115. (Mindanao Examiner)

Tawi-Tawi’s Simunul town has new mayor
Mayor Benzar Tambut with Senator Bong Go. Continued from page 1 Branch 26 in Tawi-Tawi, also ordered Abdurahman to vacate her post. In challenging Abdurahman, Tambut claimed massive fraud, anomalies and other irregularities in the elections and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) was tapped to conduct technical examination of election documents, including official ballots which yielded to the discovery of the following – deceased persons were able to cast their votes, illiterate voters were able to sign their names in the ballots legibly and
there were inconsistent thumb marks in the Book of Voters, registration records and posting of the list of voters. According to the court’s decision, Tillah invalidated over 5,000 votes of Abdurahman due to massive fraud. The Court also took reliance on the findings of the NBI during the examination of pertinent election documents. The technical examination is one legal process allowed by law to protect the sanctity of ballots and mandate of the electorate. In this process, the NBI takes charge of the exam-
ination of documents being the only agency possessing expertise on the matter. In her six-page decision, Tillah invalidated Abdurahman’s proclamation on the ground of “massive fraud, anomalies and other irregularities” in 23 clustered precincts. “The proclamation of protestee Wasilah Abdurahman is hereby held invalid, annulled and set aside on the ground of massive fraud, anomalies and other electoral irregularities in the 23 clustered precincts. Protestant Benzar Tambut is hereby declared as the legally and duly elected mayor in the municipality of Simunul being the winning candidate with the highest number of plurality of valid votes cast,” Tillah said. “Protestee Wasilah Abdurahman is hereby ordered to vacate her position and to cease and desist from further discharging the duties and functions officially vested in the office of the municipal mayor of Simunul which are now conferred in favor of protestant Benzar Tambut, who is hereby ordered to act, perform and discharge the duties and responsibilities and all incidents pertaining thereto,” she added. Municipal authorities were also ordered to enforce and implement and assist in the implementation of the court’s order. Local residents and Tambut’s supporters praised the court’s decision. Hedgehog found in Cotabato Continued from page 1 Mayor Vicente Sorupia Jr. He said it was the first time he saw such an animal. The spiny mammal, which only weighs 300 grams and 14 centimeters long, was handed over to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and will be turned over to the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center in the town of Lutayan in Sultan Kudarat province. The Department of Environment and Natural
Resources warned citizens that traffic of exotic wildlife is illegal under Republic Act 9147 o the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act. Hedgehogs are nocturnal animals with coneshaped faces, short legs and bodies that are covered with porcupine-like quills. Despite their similar appearances, porcupines and hedgehogs are not closely related. Unlike porcupines, hedgehog quills are not easily detached from their bodies, according to An-
imal Planet. Hedgehog quills are made from keratin, much like human nails. According to the African Wildlife Foundation, a hedgehog can have as many 6,000 quills on its body. They can live in a wide range of habitats, including savannahs, forests, deserts, scrublands and even suburban gardens. Hedgehog homes are usually burrows and nests made from leaves, branches and other vegetation they build themselves. (Rhoderick Beñez)

MG Cars opens in Zambo
Zamboanga Mayor Beng Climaco with MG Motors Zamboanga executives. WITH THE ease of doing business in Zamboanga City, investors continue to flock here despite the current health crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic. And one of the latest businesses that opened here recently is MG Philippines or more popularly known in the country as Morris Garages which now has a showroom at Nuñez Extension – MG Motors Zamboanga. Mayor Beng Climaco led the opening of the British iconic MG Cars together with Vice Mayor Rommel Agan. She thanked local businessman Jaydrick Johnson Yap and his partners for choosing Zamboanga for the MG Cars showroom which also has a service area. “Congratulations and thank you Jaydrick Yap and partners for your trust and confidence in investing in Zamboanga,” said Climaco. Yap is one of the directors of MG Motors Zamboanga and is also the president of the Southern Philippine Deep Sea Fishing Association, and vice president at YL Fishing Corporation based in Zamboanga. “Despite the pandemic, the market for MG Cars is very promising not only in Western Mindanao, but
also in Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi and Zamboanga is a major trading hub in the South,” he told the Zamboanga Post. Eugene Frederick Yap, the president of MG Motors Zamboanga, also said MG Cars are truly a “value for your hard-earned money.” “When we talk about MG Cars, the first thing that comes to mind is it’s British and Morris Garages has a heritage. It is special and it is MG and we bring here affordable, yet high quality cars as they are known around the world,” he said in a separate interview. He said MG Motors Zamboanga now offers four models of sports utility vehicles and sedans to choose from - MG 5, MG RX5, MG 6 – which won Best Value for Money Award and Compact Sedan of the Year, and People’s Choice Award in Auto Focus 2019-2020; MG ZS – also won the Best Subcompact SUV in the 15th Annual C Awards. And Top Gear PH also awarded MG as the Breakout Brand of the Year. History London-born Cecil Kimber, having outgrown his sales desk job, heads to the garage and begins to tinker around. He joined Morris Cars in 1921 and became General Manag-
er of Morris in 1922. He began producing his own tuned versions of Morris cars to boost sales. These cars took the name from the place they were sold, the Morris Garage. The first MG was the 14/28, based upon the Morris Oxford. In 1931, MG became the “first record breaker’ after its MG EX120 ‘The Magic Midget’ sets a land speed record, becoming the first 750cc car to exceed 100, hitting a speed of 103.13mph and 2 years later, MG become the first non-Italian marque to win the Mille Miglia (1000 Mile) race in Italy. MG’s K3 Magnette took a class win and MG’s place in the world of motorsport was cemented. But in 1957, EX181, based on the MGA model, was taken to the Bonneville Salts flats in Utah as MG returned to the world of record breaking. The 1489cc engine developed 290bhp and legendary driver Sir Stirling Moss took the car to an incredible 245.64mph. And by 1959, MG returned to the salt two years and set more records. American driver Phil Hill took the MG to 254.91mph. The enlarged 1506cc supercharged, twin cam engine, developed over 300bhp and remains the fastest MG ever. (Zamboanga Post)

Droga pa rin! Continued from page 1 matapos na manumpa bilang Pangulo noong 2016. “Ang labanan lang ho dito ngayon is ‘yung droga. The policy remains. Wala akong iniiba. Basta ako pagka sinira mo ang Pilipinas, ang bayan ko, papatayin kita. Iyang sa human rights paulit-ulit akong sinasabi at sinasabi ko sa iyo, kayong mga durugista, aabutin talaga kayo ng suwerte ninyo. You know, hinihingi mo eh. Para kang nag-suicide. If you commit suicide, bakit ako ang ma-demanda? Ngayon kung papasok ka sa droga, gusto mo man mag-suicide. Eh kung mabaril ka ng pulis diyan pati militar, bakit mo ako sisihin na gusto mo mag-suicide? Ginus-
to mo eh. Pumasok ka ng droga, that is suicide. ‘Di ba? Iyan ang simple diyan,” ani Duterte. “Ngayon kung gusto mong mag-suicide, huwag mong idemanda ‘yung pulis, idemanda mo ‘yung military, idemanda mo ako sa… Anong klase iyan? Paano ang pagka-Presidente ko? Maging inutil ako. Kasi ang droga every day, for God’s sake, every day may droga araw-araw nahuhuli umaabot ng million. Million per million ‘yan every day.
“As I have said, I would direct my Secretary of Justice, si Secretary (Menardo) Guevarra to talk to the Supreme Court na magkuha lang ng sample, random. Kung nandiyan, ang inquest fiscal magkuha ng sample maski anong direction gusto niya. Tapos may test diyan mismo test na kaagad. And if it is confirmed three times — hindi lang isa, three times — ‘pag three times, sunugin na kaagad. And
‘yung samples na nakuha na na-certify ng fiscal, iyon na ‘yung ebidensya sa korte. Kasi ‘pag hindi, ang droga ninanakaw, nire-recycle. Pabalik-balik na lang tayo sa putang inang ito, walang katapusan,” giit pa ng Pangulo. “So this has to end. Everything has an end. You want to end your life, you want to commit suicide, and have — you have to also help me end this. It’s — it’s a malaise thing, parang lagnat na naluya ang
bayan natin. So ‘yan ang mensahe ko. At huwag mo akong takot-takotin iyang human rights diyan. Hindi ako natatakot diyan. Useless ‘yan.
Continued from page 1 member with links to ISIS, in Zamboanga City. Philippine National Police Chief, General Camilo Cascolan said one of the suspects, Hassan Anang Mohammad is being implicated in the brutal murder of the 71-year old Doroteo Gonzales in May 2009. Gonzales, a carpenter from Zamboanga City, was beheaded in Basilan province after his family failed to pay P25 million ransom in exchange for his life. Mohammad was the second militant arrested in Gonzales’ murder. In August, Brig. Gen. Jesus Cambay Jr, the regional police chief, also announced the capture of Jamiul Nassalon in Caliran village in Zamboanga Sibugay’s Mabuhay town. Cascolan said three other militants - Kadija Sadji, 31; Abdulman Sarapuddin Tula, 32; and Jailani Al-Rafee Sakandal, 31, were also captured here on Friday. Security forces recovered an improvised explosive hidden in a can of cookies, including two hand grenades, one .45-caliber pistol, rifle ammunition, batteries, concrete nails, electronic items and an ISIS flag. He said the opera-
tions were carried out by members of the Police Regional Office-9, Regional Intelligence Group, Special Action Force, and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group. “Background investigation revealed that Sadji and Tula are both members of the Abu Sayyaf group and ISIS financial conduits of Dawlah Islamiya under Mundi Sawadjaan. Tula is identified in police records as incharge of procuring logistics and provisions for the groups of Sawadjaan and Radullan Sahiron in Sulu.” “Sadji is the wife of Al Asgar, son of the late Abu Sayyaf founder Abdurajak Janjalani. She belongs to the same financial conduit cell with Amaida Salvin who was arrested in Zamboanga City in April 16, 2019, and Merhama Abdul Sawari, alias Meng, who was among four Abu Sayyaf group sleeper agents who died in a police operation in Parañaque City last June 26,” Cascolan said. He said Sakandal is an active member of the Philippine Coast Guard and is being interrogated to determine his role in the activities of the Abu Sayyaf. On Saturday, security forces also captured an
Indonesian bomber Rezky Fantasya Rullie and two Filipino Abu Sayyaf militants Nur-Aina Alihasan, the wife abu Sayyaf fighter Ben Yadah; and Fatima Sandra Jimlani, also the wife of another terrorist, in Sulu province. Rullie is believed to be the daughter of the Indonesian couple who perpetrated the twin suicide bombing at Jolo Cathedral on January 27, 2019. An explosive vest rigged to a pair of pipe bombs was recovered from the trio’s hideout in San Raymundo village in the capital town of Jolo. Cascolan, who was in Zamboanga recently, also inspected policemen and awarded those with exceptional performance and witnessed the capability demonstration of various regional police units. He commended members of the regional police force led by Brigadier General Jesus Cambay Jr. for their notable accomplishments and lauded their initiatives in promoting the 9 strategic thrusts enshrined in the “PNP Sustainable Development Program” under the PNP P.A.T.R.O.L. Plan 2030. (Mindanao Examiner)

Davao imposes curfew, liquor ban Continued from page 1 respiratory disease. In the Executive Order No. 55 signed by presidential daughter and Mayor Sara Duterte on October 12, the curfew will start at 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and shall run until December 31. The sale and consumption of liquors and other intoxicating drinks is also banned from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. every day. Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte, the mayor’s younger brother, said the recent increase in coronavirus cases in Davao City “is proof that the virus is still very much present in our communities. As a result, our healthcare facili-
ties are nearing maximum capacity.” He also reminded citizens to strictly follow the health protocols to prevent further transmission of the virus. “I appeal to all of you to stay home and go out only for work, emergency, and or other essential activities. Furthermore, I am advising everyone to take extra precaution when visiting malls, grocery stores, and public markets,” he said. “Gatherings are strongly discouraged at this time and for the upcoming All Souls’ Day, everyone is advised to visit their departed loved ones
before October 29 and after November 4. The local government will continue to enforce the minimum health standards and we are imploring everybody to work together in ensuring the safety of every Dabawenyo,” Duterte added. The Department of Health last week reported more than 700 active cases of coronavirus in Davao region with Davao City having over three dozen cases, 22 are from Davao del Sur; 21 are from Davao del Norte; two are from Davao Occidental, and one from Davao Oriental. Sa government hospital, LIBRE and ENT consult. God bless.
2. Huwag lumapit sa speaker sa concert. 3. Takpan ang tainga kung maingay ang lugar. 4. Huwag maligo sa dagat at maduming swimming pool. 5. Bimpo lang ang puwedeng panlinis ng tainga.

Gwendolyn Garcia to 14-yearold Vicente “Titing” Mulato as they met again for the second time in the upland Sitio Taguini in Barangay Caurasan in the northern town of Carmen. Mulato was 13 years old when he met Garcia for the first time in Sitio Siotes in the same barangay in October last year during her return to the upland village almost 15 years since she planted an acacia tree together with the late Carmen Mayor Virginio “Benyung” Villamor in November 4, 2004. In their first meeting, “Titing” as how he is fondly

Titing, who is now a Grade 9 student and resident of neighboring Sitio Tuburan, walks for two hours in order to reach Sitio Siotes where Caurasan National High School is located. On a rainy period, school children of Barangay Caurasan and neighboring barangays brave through dangerous, muddy tire paths in order to go to school. Upon seeing him, Garcia warmly welcomed the boy and told him, “Dako naman ka Ting. Karon na gipalapdan naman ni, sunod ako na ning ipa-semento.”

As the young boy joined the governor during the inspection, the public official assured him that soon he will no longer need to walk but may soon ride a motorbike to go to school.
