Still recalling her sick days, Tambut said she checked the number of hospitals in the country online and “Google says as of 2019, there were around 1800 hospitals in the Philippines, and 721 of these are public hospitals.” Citing data from 2020, Tambut said the Department of Health operates 66 of these hospitals that have a total bed capacity of 27, 019. These DOH hospitals are distributed as: 38 in Luzon, 14 of which are in the National Capital Region; 12 in the Visayas; and 16 in Mindanao. Most of these hospitals, she said, are in the urban centers which are densely populated. “Our country is an archipelago of over seven thousand islands. A big number of island-towns in the Visayas and Mindanao have little access to basic health services and no access to specialized health services, except when the sick are brought to the provincial capital. To worsen matters, transport from these small island-towns to the provincial center is rare and often expensive.” “My mind goes back to Sulu with over 100 is-
lands, where eight of its 19 municipalities are island-towns far from the provincial center of Jolo. How would it be for anyone living in any of these 8 towns to have symptoms of covid-19? Transport to Jolo takes several hours by speedboat or motorized banca, and from Jolo, if the patient shows severe symptoms, he must be rushed to Zamboanga City for specialized treatment. That is for the patient with some money. The poor could barely afford transport to Jolo,” Tambut further said. Although the Kusug Tausug partylist is active in providing food and financial assistance to poor people and marginalized sectors in the country, Tambut said: “If Allah’s Mercy will grant me another chance to be in Congress, I will file bills increasing the number of primary and secondary hospitals throughout the country, making sure that several of these new hospitals will be built in island-towns. sick. “My workaholic but very brilliant consultant has been bombarding me with work-related messages for the past days and I have been ignoring her. Apparently she just found out that I have Covid and so she sent me fruits. Thank you for your thoughtfulness Ate Libby! I will reply to your messages when I feel better,” she wrote on her Facebook page. Tambut, who is seeking re-election, is the chairperson of the Globalization and WTO in the House of Representative, whose jurisdiction includes all matters directly and principally relating to the effects on various social sectors of World Trade Organization policies and other actions to harness opportunities offered by globalization for economic development. She is also the vice chairperson on the Committee on Poverty Alleviation and majority member of the committees on Economic Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Muslim Affairs, Trade and Industry, Transportation, and Women and Gender Equality. Continued from page 1 Bernadette Puyat made the statement, following the issuance of Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases’ (IATF) Resolution 160-B, which details the new entry, testing and quarantine protocols for foreign nationals coming from 157 visa-free countries arriving from abroad. “The new guidelines issued by the IATF are an indication that, while the country has opened its borders to fully vaccinated business and leisure visitors, it is doing so with utmost care and with full regard for the health and safety of both visitors and the general public,” Puyat said. Guidelines Based on the IATF – EID Resolution 160-B, all arriving visitors must be able to present the following: * Acceptable proof of vaccination * Negative RT-PCR Test taken within 48 hours before the date and time of departure from the country of origin / first port of embarkation in a continuous travel to the Philip-
pines, excluding lay-overs for their return journey * Valid tickets for their return journey to the port of origin or next port of destination not later than 30 days from date of arrival in the Philippines * Passports valid for a period of at least six months at the time of their arrival to the Philipiines * Travel insurance for Covid-19 treatment costs from reputed insurers, with a minimum coverage of $35,000 for the duration of their stay in the Philippines Puyat reiterated that only fully vaccinated foreign visitors will be allowed entry to the country. Children below 12 years old will be exempted if they are traveling with fully vaccinated foreign parents. In the case of unvaccinated foreign children below 12 years old that are travelling with their Filipino parent/s, they shall be allowed entry and shall be required to follow the entry, testing and quarantine protocols that apply to their Filipino parent/s. Meanwhile, those between 12 to 17-years-old must follow the protocols
based on their vaccination status, and shall be accompanied by their parents during their facility-based quarantine. Based on the resolution, an individual is deemed fully vaccinated if he or she received the second dose in a two-dose series or a single dose vaccine more than 14 days before the date and time of departure from the point of origin. While foreign visitors will not be required to undergo facility-based quarantine, Puyat reminded arriving travelers that they should continue self-monitoring and report to the local government unit of their destination should they exhibit any of the symptoms of the virus. “The opening of our borders to eligible foreign visitors and the rebound of the tourism industry can only mean the restoration of the livelihood of millions of Filipinos working in tourism-related establishments and businesses who have been displaced by the pandemic. It will contribute greatly to the eventual revival of the Philippine economy”, Puyat added.

‘Appointed Son of God’ wanted by FBI; US Embassy says release of wanted poster unrelated to presidential election Continued from page 1 Quiboloy, the founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ who claimed to be the Appointed Son of God and owner of the Universe, is accused by the FBI of sex trafficking, among other charges. “The FBI’s release of a wanted poster for Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder Pastor Apollo Quiboloy follows a multi-year effort by law enforcement. It is unrelated to the Philippines’ ongoing presidential election campaign,” US Embassy in Manila spokesperson Heather Fabrikant told CNN Philippines. Quiboloy’s lawyer Ferdinand Topacio questioned the timing of the release of the posters. “Without going into the merit, the timing of the release of this poster is very suspect. Why did they wait until now when the elections are starting? It doesn't make sense. The only logical reason here is that they are using the closeness of Pastor Quiboloy to President Duterte to indirectly bring Duterte down.” “Why is it that before President Duterte was president, we didn't hear any
accusations like this against Pastor Quiboloy? It was only in 2016 that these trumpedup charges began,” he was quoted as saying. Quiboloy denied the charges and accusations against him and likened himself to Moses. In its official website, the FBI said that Quiboloy is wanted for conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion, and sex trafficking of children; sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion; conspiracy; and bulk cash smuggling. “Apollo Carreon Quiboloy, the founder of a Philippines-based church, is wanted for his alleged participation in a labor trafficking scheme that brought church members to the United States, via fraudulently obtained visas, and forced the members to solicit donations for a bogus charity, donations that actually were used to finance church operations and the lavish lifestyles of its leaders. Members who proved successful at soliciting for the church allegedly were forced to enter into sham marriages or obtain fraudulent student visas to contin-
ue soliciting in the United States year-round,” the FBI said. “Furthermore, it is alleged that females were recruited to work as personal assistants, or “pastorals, for Quiboloy and that victims prepared his meals, cleaned his residences, gave him massages and were required to have sex with Quiboloy in what the pastorals called night duty,” it added. The FBI further said that Quiboloy was indicted by a federal grand jury in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, Santa Ana, California, for conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion and sex trafficking of children; sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion; conspiracy; and bulk cash smuggling, and on November 10, 2021, a federal warrant was issued for his arrest. AN ONLINE store accused of scamming a videographer of the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner has refunded the victim after a complaint was lodged with the courier service Ninja Van. The newspaper last week warned the public against buying on sponsored pages on Facebook selling various products after its videographer was victimized. It said the staff based in Zamboanga placed an order for one unit of Zhiyun gimbal stabilizer for mobile phones for P1,699 after the online store “Jurera” offered a 40% discount from its original price. It even posted video clips and photos
of the product with this description: “Multi-function mobile phone anti-shake support, live broadcast, video, photo, high image quality without shaking, light weight, easy to carry.” In the promotion, the seller also posted this and it leads to an order form: “1699 This is the ordering network, if you like, click the link below to place an order. https://zwj6.brwect. online/?m=Item&a=show&id=16615.” The product was delivered February 2 by Ninja Van after informing the customer through a text message at this cell phone number 0915-4821499. Excited by his purchase, our staff opened the package
with markings “Mobile phone stabilizer” only to find out that what was delivered is a cheap plastic cell phone holder sold online for only P299. The videographer quickly phoned the Ninja Van delivery driver to return the item, but the man refused, saying, all returned deliveries will be charged against them. Our staff also complained to the Customer Service of Ninja Van on its Messenger platform, but were told to file a complaint with the seller and email them. “I do understand your concern po, what we suggest po that you may coordinate po ito sa inyong seller through email po

But succeeding complaints to Ninja Van was futile. It only told the complainant to get back at the seller or store where the product was bought. “Please be advised that Ninja Van’s accountability is to deliver the parcel of our clients with utmost urgency and care. Thus, any dispute regarding the parcel damaged, incomplete, or not as advertised shall be reported to the shipper,” said Ninja Irene. However, another Ninja Van customer service staff, Ninja Coremar, brought the complaint to the attention of her superior and refunded the P1,699 and she also apologized on behalf of the courier firm. The Mindanao Examiner returned the money to Ninja Van after the seller eventually refunded our videographer. Had the Ninja Van delivery man returned the money, it could have
saved our staff from being scammed. Now, Ninja Van would not even help return the payment and get back the item despite our staff’s immediate complaint to the Ninja Van delivery man. Efforts to contact the seller through their cell phone numbers 09690499544 and 0969-049545 were all unanswered. The seller’s address is listed only as Talon Singko, Las Piñas,
Metro Manila, Philippines and email address at kyleplus13@gmail.com. The address may also be fictitious since it has no residential or building number and not even the name of the seller or store. OHN MASON said: “If you run with wolves, you will learn how to howl. But if you associate with eagles, you will learn how to soar.” He continued, “Almost all of our sorrows spring from relationships with wrong people.” The opposite would also be true, our greatest joys come from our deepest relationships, with the right people. In my lectures, I would often ask my audience a question to prove that our relationships are far more superior than money, material things, honor, etc. in terms of giving us true joy. The question I would ask, “What was the most memorable gift you have received in your lifetime during one of your birthdays or during Christmas?” Almost always the majority of the people in the audience could not remember. But if I asked them, “What was the happiest moment in your life?” Many would reply, when I got married, or when we had this big family reunion one Christmas with all family members around, or when I was on a date with my first love, etc. They did not have a hard time recalling it because the memory was kept in their hearts. What was common with these replies? It was always about relationships. Fond memories are always about persons, not things and not money. We ought to choose who our friends are because they could pull us down or bring us up. As the famous saying goes, “Tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are.” Bad company ruins morals. Our strong held principles in life are no match to the stronger peer pressure exerted to us by our “friends.” We could turn down an invitation to a time-wasting activity or worse to an immoral activi-
ty once or twice but we could not turn them down forever. If you are attached to these friends, because for you they seem to know “how to have a good time”, then you will have to change your concept of good time. A good time is not a good time when they bring about deep regrets later on. An on-the-job training student asked me once during one of our counselling sessions, “Sir, what if there would be no one left in the company who could be of good influence to me, will I still not make friends?” I readily replied, “Then, you will have to be alone. Better be alone, than lose your values.” I further told him, “I’m sure there are good people in your company. In fact, the bad eggs are usually very few unless you are with a band of robbers, or you are doing your on-thejob training with the NPA’s or the Abu Sayyaf.” “Can our time-honored principles or values in life be more important than persons?” In some cases (since there are always exceptions to a rule), the answer is yes. It’s the same as the principle of self-defense. Assuming of course you are the innocent party, when you are a recipient of a deadly attack, you ought to defend your life even at the expense of taking the life of your attacker. At that point, your life is more important than the life of your attacker because you have the right values on your side. If you take away the life of your attacker in the process, you don’t commit any crime. Values at times are more important than life. That’s why martyrs like our very own St. Pedro Calungsod and St. Lorenzo Ruiz had to give up their lives for the highest value of all: God. (Mindanao Examiner)

ara hindi masira ang ngipin mo: 1. Marami sa atin ay kinakagat ang yelo ngunit hindi natin alam na sa bawat pagkagat ng yelo ay nagkakaroon ng maliliit na biyak sa enamel ng ipin. Maaaring lumaki ang biyak at ma-fracture ang ipin. 2. Meron tinatawag na Baby Bottle Tooth Decay kung saan pinapadede ng gatas habang tulog ang baby at nagiging dahilan ng pagkabulok ng ngipin. Kapag gising na lang padedehin ang mga bata at sundan ng tubig o sanayin na magcup. I-brush na din ang ipin sa unang pagtubo pa lang.
3. Ang pag-inom ng matatamis na inumin tulad ng softdrinks, iced tea at milk tea ay makasisira ng ngipin. Ang softdrinks ay maraming asukal at mataas sa acid. Pwede mag straw kung acidic ang inumin para hindi masira ang enamel ng ipin. 4. Iwasan ang mga gummy candies, jelly beans o caramels dahil dumidikit ito sa ipin. 5. May mga tao na ginagawang pambukas ng plastic at softdrinks ang ngipin o pangputol ng mga bagay. Hindi ito mabuti kasi napipingot ang ipin. Ingatan ang mga ngipin. 6. May ilang tao ang nakagawian ng kagatin ang lapis o ballpen at kuko lalo na pag kinakabahan. Palitan na lang ng sugarless chewing gum kung kailangan may ng-
inunguya. 7. Ang pagkain ng madalas sa buong maghapon ay hindi mabuti dahil nag-iipon ang mga pagkain sa pagitan ng ipin. 8. Ang madalas na pag-inom ng kape ay nakakatuyo ng bibig kaya mas konti ang laway, nagkakaroon ng dry mouth at tooth decay. Dalasan ang pag-inom ng tubig sa maghapon. 9. Ang sigarilyo ay nakakatuyo ng bibig, nagdudulot ng sakit sa gilagid at kanser sa bibig. 10. Ang pagsipilyo ng madiin ay maaaring magpudpod ng enamel at gilagid. 11. Ang pagdede ng daliri o thumb-sucking ng bata ay may epekto sa pagtubo ng ngipin at maaaring maging sungki ang ipin.
INGREDIENTS : • 4 lbs beef short ribs • 1 Knorr Beef Cube • 14 ounces tomato sauce • 1 cup red wine • 2 large potato cubed • 1 large carrot cubed • 1 cup manzanilla olives • 2 bell pepper sliced • 4 sprigs thyme • 2 large onion chopped • 1 head garlic chopped • 3 tablespoons soy sauce • ½ cup liver spread • 1 cup water • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil • Salt and ground black pepper to taste INSTRUCTIONS : 1.

Heat oil in a pot. Fry the carrots for 2 minutes. Make sure that all sides are cooked equally. Remove from the pot. Set aside. Fry the potato until the color of the outer part turns light brown. Remove from the pot and set aside. Using the remaining oil, sauté garlic, onion, and thyme. Continue sautéing until the onion caramelizes. Add beef short ribs. Cook until the color of the outer part turns light brown. Pour tomato sauce and red wine. Add
