Covid cases shoot up! ‘Zambo now has over 2,000 infections’

City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite also noted that Covid-19 has already affected even the younger population with deadly consequences. “We are now seeing the younger population also getting infected. We have compared our data from last year (when the original virus was detected) with the present situation, now we have
under 15-years old who died from Covid. We have to strictly follow the minimum health standards. Let us protect ourselves, keep our family and our loved ones especially children and our senior citizens protected. Please take care,” Miravite said. One doctor, who asked not to be named, said the Covid-19 wards at the Zamboanga City Medical Center are full. He said even some doctors have been infected with the virus after being exposed to relatives or family members of patients in non-Covid wards. “The (Covid-19) wards are full and even doctors are getting sick and some of them who have comorbidities are now undergoing dialysis. They got the virus from watchers of patients in non-Covid wards. You know, patients being
admitted undergo Covid testing, but now their watchers who turned out to be positive for Covid, although asymptomatic, spread the virus to some doctors and maybe other people at the hospital,” he told the Zamboanga Post. “This is a very dangerous time. Health authorities should have placed Zamboanga City under Enhanced Community Quarantine to immediately address the spike in Covid-19 cases which is largely blamed on the Delta variant (of the new Coronavirus). Now is the time to declare ECQ,” he added. The Delta variant was first detected in India, but quickly spread in more than 130 countries. Mayor Beng Climaco, who chairs the local Covid-19 task force, has repeatedly called on resi-

This was also confirmed by Duterte’s spokesman, Harry Roque, who said the government expects to receive a big supply of Covid-19 vaccines this month. “Ito po’y inaprubahan ng Pangulo sang-ayon po sa advice ni Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez, at magsisimula na rin po ang ating pagbabakuna ng ating mga Kabataan. Pero ang importante lang, dahil nandyan na po ang supply, at ang naging problema naman natin dati ay kakulangan ng supply, ngayong maraming supply eh sisimulan na po natin ang bakunahan ng general population,” he said. The government and the DOH continue to encourage the public to get inoculated against the deadly respiratory disease, but the supplies of Covid-19 vaccines are lacking. Across the country, residents are flocking to vaccination sites, but many of those who registered with health centers or through the Internet have not received any schedule for their inoculation. Some have waited for months, but until now did not get any reply from the government. And others had claimed unequal distribution of the vaccines or favoritism, nepotism and undue influence and even bribery in the mass vaccination program. And many provinces and cities have not re-
ceived its equal share of the vaccines and some even got more than what others were given. The Philippines has over 110 million population and is lagging behind some Southeast Asian countries in vaccine procurement. According to a report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes, with vaccines being approved for use in different parts of the globe, the scale and complexity of their manufacture, allocation and distribution globally will be unprecedented. It said this will also present corruption risks that may threaten vital public health goals. These risks include the entry of substandard and falsified vaccines into markets, theft of vaccines within the distribution systems, leakages in emergency funding designated for the development and distribution of vaccines, nepotism, favoritism, and corrupted procurement systems. “These corruption risks must be identified and mitigated by public institutions to help advance access to safe and effective Covid-19 vaccines by the population, including the most vulnerable and marginalized groups,” it said. was part of a $2 million (or roughly P100 million) deal that Climaco signed with AstraZeneca early this year. The initial P200 million for the purchase of the vaccines are included in the P4.38-billion 2021 Executive Budget of the local government, according to Climaco, who is also a member of the Committee on Vaccine Availment of the League of Cities of the Philippines. Some 36,42o additional doses are also expected to arrive soon. The latest shipment
was the second since July this year after AstraZeneca delivered some 11,800 doses of Covid-19 vaccines purchased by the Climaco administration. Ulcer - Nagiging asidik ang sikmura. 3. Paninikip ng dibdib. 4. High blood pressure 5. Hirap huminga, palpitasyon at kinakabhan 6. Mataas ang sugar o diabetes. Para mabawasan ang stress, subukan itong
mga tips: 1. Magkaroon ng mabait na kaibigan – Makipag-kuwentuhan o chat. Ayon sa pagsusuri, ang pakikipagkuwentuhan sa kaibigan ay katumbas na ng pag-inom ng pain reliever. (Bong Serondo) MAYOR BENG Climaco thanked the Department of Health for releasing some P36 million in Special Risk Allowance or SRA which is intended for local government health workers. DOH Regional Director Dr. Joshua Brillantes handed over the cheque to Climaco. It will cover the SRA of barangay health workers, barangay nutrition scholars, Covid-19 contact tracers and regular employees of the City Health Office, among others. The mayor lauded Brillantes for taking the “extra mile to personally hand over the check” to the local government. She also thanked the Local Finance Committee, specifically the City Accountant Office, the City Treasurer Office, the City Budget Offices, as well as the City Legal Office for expediting the liquidation
for the payment of the first tranche of the SRA in September. Climaco said the continuous grant of the SRA is a show of gratitude to all the frontliners, who sacrifice their lives for the safety and protection of others. “We thank all our frontliners assigned in medical facilities, in the borders and down to the barangays,” she said. She ordered the Local Finance Committee to expedite the preparation of the documents for the release of the SRA to public health workers as soon as possible. The second tranche will cover the period December 20, 2020 to June 30, 2021 at a maximum of P5,000 per month with 22 working days. Last month, hundreds of local health workers thanked Climaco after receiving their SRA following government orders to aid those who are in the
frontline of the Covid-19 response. Climaco led the distribution of the SRA to health workers, including child development workers, barangay nutrition scholars, barangay population volunteers, tanods and members of the Barangay Intelligence Network and vaccinators, among others. The beneficiaries received a maximum of P25,000 and a minimum of P15,000 each, depending on the number of days worked. Climaco said the raging battle against Covid-19 has prompted the national government to release the SRA in recognition of the heroic and invaluable contributions of health workers throughout the country as they risk their lives to confront the deadly pandemic. From individuals joined by God to form a family. ME + We = US. We reflect on God's ways of uniting couples and forming a family as the church is formed. Fr. Francis Bustamante, S.J., shared that in marriage, the spouses must remain TRUE = Trust, Respect, Understanding and Endurance. Marriage requires this and it is quite a challenge. Fr. Bill Abbot calls for greater understanding for couples whose marriage is difficult. Family life is precious and children are blessings amidst the struggle. I recall Oct. 18, 2013 right after the Zamboanga Siege, we were preparing and I noticed my husband los-
ing his balance while tying his shoes. I was alarmed but tried to contain it, since the Family was waiting to surprise my husband on his 65th birthday. After the celebration, we rushed to the hospital where they discovered a clot in his brain. I stayed up with him as he was on a stretcher and later transferred to the room. All I could say was mahal tayo ng Dios! God loves us! Hanging on to Jesus, I called Dr. Rogelio Libarnes who recommended Dr. Willy Cruz, who scheduled a Burr Hole operation in his head. The operation was fast and by the time I returned, my husband was already at the recovery room. The next day, members of the CLC brought a priest and we prayed. That was an experience of how as a family we had to deal with a medical crisis. Forward today, a week ago, we had two close contacts, dear members of our household. Our eldest and her entire family also had Covid. (Last night), a dear friend expired due to Covid complications and I had to consult his grieving mother who is like a mother to us. (This afternoon), I got a call from my High School Teacher in isolation thanking us after assisting in the burial of her colleague who died of covid. I also had to talk to a mother because the family has Covid. What uncertain times we live. We as a couple, as a family, need to clasp our hands on bended knees hanging on to Jesus and praying to the Holy Family. My husband laments how a classmate of his lost three children due to Covid and the agony of bringing them to the hospital. Covid complications are very fatal. We pray for all families in crisis, to find hope, have faith in God with the enduring bond of love. All will be well in Jesus. Yesterday I heard the joyful voice of Tania, our eldest apo, she and her family are en route to recovery. (MBC)
