ARRIVAL VISA To enter Bali you'll need a Visa, however this doesn't need to be organised before your flight. Upon arrival at the airport, you can purchase the 30-day Visa for about $35 USD or pay in one of the multiple currencies accepted. AIPORT PORTERS Upon passing through immigration and collecting your bags, you'll be swarmed by Balinese men in pale blue shirts insisting on carrying your belongings, even if you're with a pre arranged transfer. Always firmly decline and keep your things with you, as otherwise they'll only rip you off once you've reached your chosen transport, trying to charge upwards of $10 AUD for a few bags and a short trip. GETTING AROUND There's always plenty of taxis around, however the most reputable is Bluebird Taxis (although watch out for a similar company that uses the same pale blue vehicle). If you can't get Bluebird, always keep an eye on the meter to make sure you're not being overcharged (or that it has even been started), or even agree on a price beforehand.
NEED SOME MONEY? Play it safe and change your cash in reputable places like the convenience stores or exchanges, instead one of the many side street "Money Changers" who are less than reputable. Alternatively, you can withdraw local currency from one of the many Commonwealth Bank ATMs around Bali. At the time of writing, the exchange rate sits at approximately $1 AUD = 9,895 Rp. STAY SAFE As with any foreign destination, vigilance is the best defence against any crime. Always keep a good handle on your belongings as thieves on motorbikes like to perform a drive by snatch-andgrab. DEPARTURE TAX As crazy at it seems, you have to pay to leave Bali. After checking into your flight but before entering the departures area, you'll have to queue up to pay a 200,000Rp tax (Approx. $20 AUD) so make sure you've still got some Rupiah on hand.
DRESS CODE What does "Semi Formal" mean? Men, ditch the tie and feel free to come in a light or dark suit. Ladies, get those light and flowy cocktail dresses happening.
TRIGGER HAPPY We resepectfully ask you not to use your personal cameras during the wedding ceremony as we already have the "I Do's" covered by some kick-ass photographers. But be sure to go nuts with them at the reception!
