Welcome...

July... summer is here and hopefully many of you will be heading down to Looe at the end of the month for your summer holidays. Last month was an event packed month in Looe. We had the Looe Lugger Regatta, the Festival of the Sea, the famous Looe Raft Race and the fabulous Looe Festival of Food & Drink. What a month! July will be just as busy with the Bocconoc Steam Fair, the Fireballs National Sailing Championships, the Bocconoc Motorsport Carnival and of course the fun and family friendly Looe Carnival week. See you there!

WHO ARE YOU?

I am an artist and photographer. I’m not sure that there is

really a distinction between the two: as an artist I use a wide

variety of media and photography is just another artistic medium.

I love the Lugger regatta for its spectacle and the beauty of love about having such a fantastic music fest on your door step? Glastonbury with a warm shower and a comfortable bed at the end of the day...and much better toilets!

that order!

Cartier-Bresson has to have been a big influence on me and

his philosophy that photography should be about capturing

the decisive moment. Steve McCurry has also produced some very influential images. I don’t think I could single out

individual artists who influence me; there are too many, my

bookshelves groan under the weight of art reference books.

My biggest single influence has to be the natural landscape, especially the sea and wild places.

What are your favourite subjects & medium? I love to work in all media and to experiment with

combinations; I am just beginning a project working with various painting media, photography and digital art.

Can people commission you or where can they buy your work?

WITHIN AN HOUR OF LOOE AND EASILY ACCESSED BY CAR. IF YOU’RE RUNNING A MAJOR EVENT & WOULD LIKE IT INCLUDED HERE, PLEASE SEND DETAILS AND A PHOTO.

Cornwall Spring Flower Show 6th – 7th April This colourful and fragrant bonanza of blooms is the perfect way to welcome spring.

IL T N U R OVE T YEAR NEX

Held at Boconnoc, near Lostwithiel, the show will be opened by Roy Lancaster, horticulturalist and broadcaster.

This very popular event regularly sees 10,000 visitors annually and it's not difficult to see why. With over 100 growers and exhibitors showcasing their products, there are also stunning show gardens to delight in, plus classes and workshops. For those with horticultural problems, the BBC Cornwall Gardenline Team will be present to give tips and advice. For all gardeners, this is one event not to miss.

West Looe May Fayre 4th May Initiated by Edwina Hannaford in 2010, the West Looe May Fayre was originally a concept to promote West Looe's shops and businesses, plus as a way of fundraising for organisations and local groups.

L I T UN R R OVE T YEA NEX

Since then, this colourful and well supported event has grown into an

important part of the Looe calendar. Locals and visitors flock to see the procession, Maypole dancing and entertainment. For 2013, the West Looe May

Fayre has gone one step further with the Pirates of St Piran. This 'motley crew' will entertain with mock sword fights, singing shanties and re-enacting history. This is a marvellous and well supported event which takes a lot of planning and organising. So please support Looe and we'll see you there.

In its second year, the Looe Festival

of Food & Drink is all about showcasing the incredibly diverse range of food and drink produced, cooked, caught and reared, right here in Cornwall.

All festival goers are invited to sample Cornish teas, coffee, wines, jams, chutneys, seafood and much more. There will be demonstrations by leading chefs, hot and cold food to feast on and recipes to try at home. All this and more in a larger marquee than last year, making visiting easier, especially for wheelchair users. Try the lobster from Nippers Shellfish in Looe. Trust me, it’s amazing.
