Education for All Every Child has the Right to Education Minhaj Secondary School Kenya Bait-uz-Zahra Aghosh: Orphan Care Home
FOUNDER’S MESSAGE In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Ever-Merciful. This year brings to us one of the most turbulent periods of living history, with unprecedented levels of suffering and poverty, primarily due to natural disasters and conflicts. We have seen mass migration at biblical proportions, with over six million people fleeing Syria alone. Millions are affected by conflict in Yemen. Famine in Africa, has put the lives of tens of millions of people at risk. The present circumstances make the work that we and others do significantly more important; and with this we share the responsibility of alleviating the suffering of fellow human beings with our donors. Our primary responsibility remains to those in extreme poverty, children, women and the weak. We have

for the past three decades provided relief to people who have been affected by various human and natural disasters, alongside long-term sustainable projects. Our ultimate aim is to ensure that we always provide the ability and training to local communities to sustain the projects that we deliver to them. We have established over six hundred and forty educational institutes in Pakistan and East Africa. In the coming year we are bringing forward our orphan care project for Syrian children who have been forced to flee their homes. This is indeed a challenging time for us and we will continue to support the destitute in society, helping provide orphan and vulnerable children with quality education. We recognise that any achievements of our organisation are only possible with the support and generosity

of our donors. We hold their trust in us, in the highest regard and always ensure that we manage and implement our work in the most efficient and beneficial manner. I pray for the solidarity of all those who continue to support this effort, keeping in mind the Prophetic example, “The most righteous in society, is the one whose actions benefit others.”

Education for all
EDUCATION FOR ALL Every Child has the Right to Education
MWF prioritises educational development, as we strongly believe that the key solution to ending the cycle of poverty is education.
640
Through our educational network of over 640 institutions we are supporting over 150,000 children. Over the past 30 years, we have helped millions of children better their own lives and the lives of their families.
EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS
We are now working to expand our network of educational institutions so that we have access to more children in the remotest regions of Pakistan and East Africa.
150,000
We have been working to modernise and improve our existing schools, to ensure that children have access to similar facilities that we expect our own children to have, living in the West.
Study at a Minhaj school, college or university through our sponsorship
MWF strongly adheres to the philosophy that education should be supplemented with moral and ethical training, so that students make a positive contribution to the development of their communities. MWF is sponsoring thousands of orphan and needy children from poor backgrounds:

MINHAJ SECONDARY SCHOOL KENYA
EDUCATING WOMEN
Bait-uz-Zahra
One of the main objectives of Minhaj Welfare Foundation is to provide access to quality education to boys and girls that live in marginalised areas of East Africa. Due to a number of reasons, many children that come from the North Eastern region of Kenya will not continue their education after leaving primary school. Swabira, a fourteen year old student has been studying at the Minhaj School for over a year, she has come top of her class. Speaking about her time at Minhaj School, she said: “I’ve always wanted to get a better education, so I can become a nurse. If I did not go to school, I probably would have been forced into marriage.” Minhaj Secondary School is supporting more than 100 students and is also paying the wages of six teachers.

Aisha’s family’s only breadwinner, her father died in 2015. She was living with her mother and three siblings. Unfortunately Aisha had to leave school and look after her younger brothers, so that her mother could manage two jobs to support the family. Minhaj Welfare Foundation has now provided her an opportunity to pursue her dreams and go into further education. Aisha (from the right) sat in the classroom, at the Minhaj College in Pakistan
“There are many young girls who do not have access to education in Paksitan. I am very lucky that MWF have given me the chance to learn and further pursue my education.” Students, staff and MWF volunteers take a group pic outside the Minhaj School, Kitere (in Kenya)

Salim from Quetta: 13 years (both parents are deceased) In 2014, MWF completed the Aghosh complex (an Orphan care home) with the aim of providing a holistic approach in educating and building the future generation of Pakistan. This is one of the flagship projects of MWF. Our donors continue to support this project through regular sponsorship of Orphan children. The complete cost of sponsoring one orphan child is £840 per year (£70 per month) which caters for the educational needs along with the care and living of the child. For many donors, it is not easy to donate the full amount, so we provide an opportunity for donors to contribute

ASIA
In Asia, Minhaj Welfare Foundation is finding clean and safe water solutions to support families living in deprived regions of Thar, South Punjab, Interior Sindh and Balochsitan.
WATER: SUSTAINABLE FUTURE When Minhaj Welfare Foundation builds a clean water solution for the poor and needy in margianlised communities, we work with the local communiy and elders to ensure that the people have a much better sustainable future. Our focus is to ensure that children do not walk miles in search of clean water, and instead spend their time in school.
IN 2016/17 MORE THAN
400,000 families now have long term access to clean and safe drinking water
Africa
In September 2016, our teams visited a number of marginalised communities to see the progress of the clean water projects, which have been implemented in the North Eastern region of Kenya.
ENDING THE WATER CRISIS IN 2016/17 MORE THAN
3,000 WATER PROJECTS have
been installed so far in Asia & Africa
Our Water for All projects include:
Africa is considered as one of the most populous continents in the world, but millions of its people lack safe water. The global climate change and unstable political landscape are just some of the challenges faced on a regular basis by the people. Millions of people have no choice but to drink dirty water, and rapid urbanisation is making access to safe water even more diďŹƒcult. MWF feels that more needs to be done to end the water crisis in Afrca. MWF works with its local oďŹƒcers in Pakistan and Kenya to implement simple water related projects in the region.

SUPPORTING THE PEOPLE OF SYRIA The Minhaj Welfare Foundation team visited the Turkey/Syria border to distribute food packages and winterisation kits during 2016 and 2017. The visit to the border was in aid of supporting Syrian refugees. Donations from the UK were utilised for the purpose of helping the people of Syria during the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Minhaj Welfare Foundation with the help of its local team and volunteers travelled to make-shift camps, schools, rehabilitation centres, temporary homes and personally delivered food items and winterisations kits to Syrian refugees. Each parcel had more than 40kg of food items; enough to support a family for more than two months. Altogether we supported more than 2500 families. Our teams took details of beneficiary heads of each family and helped to ensure that the most deserving people received the much needed aid. Along with this, MWF also provided basic medical support within a number of rehabilitation centres across the region.
ORPHAN CARE HOME FOR SYRIAN CHILDREN [NEW PROJECT]
Minhaj Welfare Foundation’s (MWF) vision is to build an orphan care home for the children of Syria who have been left orphaned due to the ongoing crisis in the region, with a strong focus on the quality of care and development. MWF has secured a location to provide a safer environment for Syrian Orphans at the Turkey/Syria border. The children will be provided with: Three meals a day, clothed and supported in their education needs with the best of standards. Free medical treatment and counselling, if required. Full care from our fully trained staff and volunteers in a family-orientated environment.

GREAT SACRIFICE: QURBANI 2016 On behalf of Minhaj Welfare Foundation, we would like to thank all of our supporters, donors and volunteers for their kind support in this year’s (2016) Qurbani campaign. Thank you, your Qurbani has helped us to reach thousands of families in the third world. Just as previous years, the Minhaj Welfare Foundations team travelled to the poorest and deprived regions of the third world to distribute fresh Qurbani meat to the less fortunate in East Africa (Somalia and Kenya), Syrian refugees, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India. “Minhaj Welfare Foundation has been implementing the Qurbani programme since 1989. In 2016, MWF distributed more than seven thousand shares of Qurbani meat, sharing the blessings of Qurbani with more than 250,000 people in need. The sacrificial meat was distributed in Africa, Middle East and South Asia.
Our teams personally travelled to marginalised communities affected by the recent El-Nino drought in East Africa. Our commitment to the Syrian people is still ongoing, with the MWF team on the ground providing fresh meat to those internally displaced from the devastating. The conflict has affected more than 6 million people. In addition, MWF volunteers, travelled in various regions in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh to spend their Eid with the most vulnerable, including women and children. MWF delivered fresh meat personally to homes of people ensuring that they can spend Eid with dignity and joy. Qurbani is a constant reminder of our religious obligation to share the blessings of sacrifice with the less fortunate. MWF would like to thank all those involved in Qurbani 2016.
