Welcome back to Mini Me Magazine! We promised you big changes, and here they are. A lot has changed over the past few months, Mini Me’s Founder, Julia Clarke, left the magazine in the hands of me, to spend more time with her family and explore other adventures. I was scared at first, with my son becoming busier by the day and having just got engaged with a wedding on the horizon it seemed to much for my brain. But! Here we are, I’ve done it, brought you the summer issue, just bursting at the seams with amazingness. This issue has been a true labour of love, I hope that you find something here to inspire your mummy mind. And with that, this will be the last issue of the year. Hello Christmas. So I wish you all a very merry Christmas full of love and quality time with your Mini Me’s. Be safe, have fun and I’ll see you in the New Year.

[TODDLER MUSINGS]

10 things I want to teach to my son I can’t wait to watch my son grow, watch him become a great man like his daddy and to love him in all his amazingness. I may not have all the right answers when it comes to parenting, and I may mess up a few times, but as long as I’ve taught my son these things, I can feel successful. 1. Affection is not a sign of weakness. I shower my son in love, hugs, kisses, tickles and “I love you’s” anywhere, everywhere and anytime. I will continue to do this even when he’s old enough to find it embarrassing. Because you know what? In many years to come, I want him to shower his family, his wife, and his children in unwavering love like it’s a normal part of life. Because it is. 2. Women are king. It makes me cringe to see the way majority of the male population treat women. I want my son to have an appreciation and respect for women, for it was a woman who carried him, raised him and nurtured him. I know that in the future, there will be another woman caring for him, loving him and raising his children and I will do my very best to teach him how to treat her like his queen. I will teach him to hold hands, to open doors and what a gentleman looks like. I will teach him to be just as fiercely protective of his wife as he is of his mother. 3. Expect Discipline. This one I struggle with, I hate to see my son upset, and right now he’s too young to do things he knows is wrong. But when he is in the wrong, I tell him calmly but firmly. I want him to respect me as his mother, to respect that I know what is best for him. I work everyday to make sure that my discipline is just a solid as his daddy’s, so that he respects both of us parents.

living room to his favourite songs. I love this quality of his, and I will nourish it, and nurture it so that he will never say, “I don’t dance.” 6. To Love, Unconditionally. This is huge, mothers are wired to love unconditionally, but I make sure I let him know even in times when I have to discipline him. I always end positively and tell him “I love you baby”, so he never question the extent of my love for him. 7. Fight for what you Love. I think this is incredibly valid. In keeping with loving unconditionally I want him to know that love is not easy, or simple no matter whom it’s with. But I also want him to know, that you love for a reason, and you must always fight for those reasons. 8. To be kind. Sometimes I question why I brought a child into a world that can be very unkind at times. I like to do my best to be kind to strangers, and to people in general. I hope to teach my son that everyone deserves kindness, and to be generous with his dispersion of it.

9. To be himself. Always. I hope to teach my son that the person he is incredible, unique and beautiful. I want him to know that all his traits are wonderful, good and bad. That his quirks make him awesome and his talents make him rad. I want him to have a deep-set faith in himself and confidence in who he is and who he will become. When he’s a teenager, and he suddenly looses sight 4. Responsibility. I take my son with me out to help me hang out the washing where of this, I will remind him everyday of how wondrously cool he is. he passes me clothes and pegs. While he is too young to help with most household jobs, I’ve taught him to follow me while I work. 10. That mum and dad are his biggest fans. As he grows I will encourage him to join in, to take care of his I don’t think we will ever have to put much effort into this, messes and to have responsibility for his things. Then hopefully the absolute love and adoration that explodes from us he will take these qualities and apply them right thought his life. every time we are with him, watching him play, sleep, eat, cuddle is unmistakable. But just in case he forgets, we will always remind him he’s our number one, no matter what. 5. You’re never too cool to dance. My little man loves to dance; he’s been doing his own version of WORDS: Lara Waterhouse dancing since he was six months old. He loves to spin around the PHOTO BY: Ashleen Connell Photography

Lili Collection was born in 2013 after the birth of my son Liam (Lili). I decided to quit my job in medical device sales and stay home mum. Glittered Party Poppers You will need: Printed card stock, Glittered card stock, Scissors, Double-sided tape, Glue gun, Twine, Confetti, lollipops, and any other goodies to fill them with, Crepe paper/tissue paper and Templates you can find here. 1. Using the printable templates from the Kids Crafts Book extras here, trace and cut the template shapes onto your card stock choices. 2. Cut a piece of crepe paper 4 by 5 1/2 inches long and tape along the bottom of the rectangular card stock piece on the inside. 3 Using the crepe paper will make the popper stronger to hold heavier items like the lollipops I used, but you can easily use tissue paper instead.

4. Once you’ve glued your crepe paper along the inside of the card stock, roll both pieces into a cylinder shape, and secure along the seam with double-sided tape. Then tie the crepe paper closed with twine to cinch the bottom. 5. Fold the half circle template piece into a cone shape, and then secure with hot glue. Lastly, fill your popper with goodies and then glue the cone over the top to seal the popper.

random roadside flowers these inspire me more than any florist, hardware stores have the best materials to work with. Sourcing beautiful fabrics are often my starting point for a party design and of course my beautiful clients personalities, basically everywhere. The world has become so creative and 1. What inspired you to start All The Frills Mini? the best thing is we can share and see it as it happens via My little mini muse is my beautiful daughter Sienna. It all social media, keeping us inspired every minute of the day. started with designing her 1st Birthday, 3 birthdays later it’s just as much fun if not more. She has really inspired my 6. What are your must-have items for Parties? passion for putting beautiful kid’s parties together, I will Every good party needs a jumping off point for the never forget her face when she saw her 3rd birthday table design; you need to have something that inspires the setting, she looked at me with those big eyes and said “is party from start to finish. How do you juggle your business and family life? I do make sure I avoid working when Sienna is around, on the odd occasion when I need to work I get her to help me, she loves to get creative and help mamma. I also have an incredible husband who is very understanding and supports me in every way often taking Sienna to the Zoo and Ollies if I need to work for a few hours in the weekend. 3. What has been your proudest achievement so far? Turning my dreams into a reality! [CHRISTMAS]

santa’s shopping list Last year, I could not figure out for the life of me what to get my one year old for Christmas, at that age, he didn’t know what the squishy stuff that came out of his nose was, let alone what presents he should ask Santa for. I can’t remember what I brought him, other than the $30 play tent that he lives in and the bag of plastic balls that can be found in every room of the house. You know the ones, from the ball pit of chipmunks; I must have been crazy when I decided THAT was a good idea. Then came the other problem, for some reason my fiancé and I had a baby just over a month after Christmas, you know what that means? DOUBLE present search. After I’d finally got him a decent amount of Christmas presents, there was nothing left I could think of for his birthday, so I gave up and he ended up with a truck and plastic drill. WOW, that poor child. At least he won’t remember it. This year, I know him a little better, and I’m a little more savvy. So although he can’t tell me what he wants, I know exactly what to buy that will make his eyes light up when he rips off that paper Christmas morning. 1. Little Cashew Alphabet Flash Cards - Collected - $35: Um seriously, these are adorable, if you haven’t seen them yet, do yourself a favour and have a look. Little Mr loves reading and learning, he also loves cards, it’s like a super adorable combo that can’t go wrong. 2. Wooden Tool Bench - Direct Toys - $139.90: Now let me give you a back story, by man is a Maintenance Technician, most of the time I have no idea what that means but what I do know is that he has a lot of tools, and little man loves them! Most of the time I can’t let him run free at dads tool bench, but when daddy’s home they spend a lot of time there, while all I hear is “Cool Daddy.” This was a no brainer, and will be the fun part of Christmas morning.

3. Sketch Inc Nest Dolls - So beau Baby - $42: Little Mr has an obsession with putting things in other things. I think this is a boy thing; then again it might just be my kids thing. He is in love with nesting dolls, and I’m in love with these super cute monochrome designed ones. They will go perfect in his room and he’ll be over the moon. Win Win. 4. Jamie Kay Cot Cross Blanket - Jamie Kay - $89 - So you may be thinking, “why on earth would you get a nearly two year old a blanket for Christmas? What a mean mother.” I see what your saying but this one is a must. You see I have a nice light grey large version for myself, and little Mr. LOVES it. Above all blankets we have, this is the one he wants to snuggle with on the couch after a long day. I think its because of its super softness, or because he too has an eye for stylish designs. A mother can dream right? But let’s just say I don’t know how much longer my light grey can survive being the “favourite” blanket of a grubby toddler. Plus, the large version is far too big to be washing and drying every 5 minutes. Justified? I think so. 5. Schleich Animal Figurines - Toy World - $15 - These are something that we’ve been collecting for a while, when he’s been good, or had his injections I reward him with these. They are great at encouraging creative play and he’s a stickler for having statues that he can put all over the house. So that’s my round up, I will probably throw in some new books, bubbles, matchbox cars and dairy free chocolate, because of course that’s the way into any dairy allergic toddlers heart, right? But I can sit back and revel in the knowledge that this year, his presents will be memorable, useful and not to mention cute and more importantly, that they wont end up at the bottom of the toy box never to be played with again. Merry Christmas by Mini’s! Lara xo
