Welcome

Welcome to Canada... Few places on earth offer such diversity as Canada. The world’s second-largest country has an endless variety of landscapes that can only be described as epic. It’s the backdrop for plenty of awe-inspiring moments – they’re all here, spread across six time zones. One of the world’s most visited natural attractions, the thundering Niagara Falls, will take your breath away. But it’s by no means Canada’s only scenic gem. From the stunning Great Lakes of Ontario and abundance of national parks, to the colossal Athabasca Glacier and, of course, the unforgettable Rocky Mountains natural beauty is everywhere. Much of Canada’s unspoiled terrain is inhabited by a wealth of wildlife from bears to birds, killer whales to caribou. With the dramatic landscapes come some big adventures. Hike Newfoundland’s Appalachian Trail, ski on Whistler’s mountains, or try some gentler pursuits like strolling Vancouver’s Stanley Park seawall, swimming off Prince Edward Island’s (PEI) pink-sand beaches, or ice skating Ottawa’s Rideau Canal. The country’s vibrant cities are also as diverse and fascinating. Stroll the cobbled streets and pavement cafés of Montreal; discover the vibrant harbour of Vancouver. Take a trip up Toronto’s CN Tower, walk the ramparts of Québec City - Canada’s cities are made for exploring. In every Canadian city you’re just steps from great food, amazing views, and a breath of nature’s fresh air.

Canada’s food is one of its best-kept secrets, and for many - a local food smorgasbord. If you grazed from east to west across the country, you’d fill your plate like this: lobster with a dab of melted butter in the Atlantic Provinces, poutine (golden fries soaked in gravy and cheese curds) in Québec, a bulging slice of berry pie in the Prairies and wild salmon and velvety scallops in British Columbia (BC). Another is its wines. These have gained ever-greater kudos in recent years and while smaller-scale production and the industry dominance of other wine regions means they’ll never be a global market leader, there are some truly lip-smacking surprises waiting for thirsty grape lovers. It’s a country known for its festivals: Okanagan’s ice-wine festival in January, Quebec City’s winter carnival in February, Regina’s powwow in March, Whistler’s ski and snowboard fest in April, Ottawa’s tulip fest in May, Montréal’s jazz fest in June, Calgary’s stampede in July, New Brunswick’s Acadian fest in August, Toronto’s film fest in September, Kitchener’s Oktoberfest in October, Hamilton’s Aboriginal Fest in November, Niagara’s winter festival in December. Canada celebrates all year long. Canada - invigorating, exciting and completely unforgettable.

There are seven of these hills in a row, including Mont Royal in Montreal, ending with Monte Rouge near the tiny village of Boloeil. Many of the trees you view are maple trees, producing the great Canadian staple, maple syrup. After the small city of Saint-Hyacinthe, there is a dramatic change in the landscape, as the Monteregian Hills seem to appear out of nowhere. These huge volcanic mounds were formed over 120 million years ago and there are seven of these large hills in a row, including Mont Royal in Montreal. Arriving in Montreal at Central station, change trains and board VIA Rail’s Toronto service. The change is seamless, in the same station, with a short connection wait. Passing through Trenton Junction, the St. Lawrence widens into Lake Ontario. The rail line follows the shore of this “Great Lake “ into Toronto, where you disembark at Union Station in downtown Toronto to end your rail journey. (Lunch included today.) Overnight in Toronto

Alaska’s capital city gracefully balances frontier ruggedness and cosmopolitan flair. Mendenhall Glacier, a river of ice measuring 1.5miles in width and over 6 miles in length, hugs Juneau’s northside and is part of the Juneau Icefield, a 1,500-squaremile ice field that feeds 38 large glaciers.

Day 6. Ketchikan, Alaska

You’ll sail beyond the Inside Passage into the more protected Alaska Inside Passage, a complex labyrinth of fjords and bays where whales and sea lions find refuge during the summer months.

Known as the “Salmon Capital of the World,” Ketchikan is also the ancestral home of the Tlingit people, who have carved the world’s largest collection of totem poles. The name comes from the Tlingit phrase “katch kanna,” which roughly translated means “spread wings of a thundering eagle,” a tribute to the hundreds of eagles that nest in the mountain forests above this small outpost.

Day 3. Icy Strait Point, Alaska For thousands of years, the Tlingit Indians have called this place home. Located just 22 miles southeast of Glacier Bay National Park, Icy Strait Point offers travelers the chance to view wildlife like humpback whales, eagles, and brown bears, or to explore monuments to the region’s fishing heritage.

The fabled Inside Passage is one of the most scenic sea-lanes in the world, and one of the few where deep-draft vessels can sail close to steep mountain walls. The scenery is unbelievable, with forests in a hundred shades of green, tumbling turquoise glaciers, and evocative towns loaded with history, culture and adventure.

Fjord weaves through the Tongass National Forest. The shoreline is spotted with waterfalls created by melting snowcaps and trees sprouting at odd angles from rocky outcroppings. The dramatic Sawyer Glaciers at the end of Tracy Arm are framed by mountains on either side. Black and brown bears, wolves, deer, moose, seals and whales all make their home in the fjord’s icy waters. No roads lead to Juneau, squeezed between the Gastineau Channel and Coast Mountains, Juneau offers a lot of variety in close proximity. The massive Mendenhall Glacier and the immense Juneau Icefields are at its back door. The vast Tongass National Forest stretches away to the northeast. Maple Leaf Trail Plus Niagara | 11 Days | 10 Nights | from £1945pp Look out for the iconic symbol of Canada, the maple leaf, on this superb tour; in the beautiful forests of the Laurentian mountains, verdant in spring and summer, warming to red and gold in the fall, and as the proud emblem of national identity in the great cities of the east – sophisticated Toronto, charming Quebec City, stately Ottawa and chic Montreal. To complete the picture of an enthralling region, this holiday also takes in the rustic tranquillity of the Eastern Townships, the largely undiscovered paradise of the Appalachians, the unspoilt Charlevoix Coast and the extraordinary power and beauty of Niagara Falls.

The MyCanada Difference The most popular eastern cities combined with the Charlevoix Coastline and Eastern Townships A full day sightseeing trip to the powerful Niagara Falls Including a whale watching cruise and city tours in Toronto and Montreal

The Maple Leaf Flag The Canadian flag, also known as the Maple Leaf of L’Unifolie (‘the one-leafed’ in French) is red and white, featuring a signature 11-pointed maple leaf inspired by the flag of the country’s Royal Military College. The official ceremony inaugurating the new design was held on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on 15 February 1965, subsequently celebrated as National Flag of Canada Day. The Canadian Red Ensign, bearing the Union Jack and the shield of the royal arms of Canada, was lowered and then, on the stroke of noon, the new maple leaf flag was raised as the crowd sang the national anthem, O’ Canada, followed by God Save the Queen.

New for 2013 – overnight in the summer retreat of Mont Tremblant

EXPERIENCES Maid of the Mist

Day 1. London – Toronto Arrive in Toronto where our coach will transfer you to the Metropolitan Hotel. Be sure to stroll out onto Yonge Street and explore vibrant Toronto with its sophisticated architecture, elegant shopping malls and plentiful choice of dining. A visit to the CN Tower is a must, with the world’s highest observation deck some 1,700ft high.

Day 2. Toronto – Niagara Falls – Toronto Our coach takes us to Niagara in time for lunch and the great experience of the Horseshoe and the American Falls. You can appreciate their awesome power by viewing from the promenade or from specially channelled tunnels behind the falls, or take an optional ride on the ‘Maid of the Mist’ boat that will take you almost under them. Early evening we return to Toronto and our hotel.

Day 3. Toronto – Ottawa We depart Toronto and follow the North shore of Lake Ontario to Kingston, gateway to the 1000 Islands. Here we take time for a coffee stop and to enjoy the views of the river before continuing on our journey to the nation’s capital, Ottawa. Ottawa’s fine parliament buildings, picturesque parks and canals invite the stroller. After a brief orientation tour we transfer to our hotel, the centrally located Lord Elgin and the remainder of the day is free for you to explore this fine city at your leisure.

Day 4. Ottawa – Mont Tremblant

Day 8. Quebec City – Eastern Townships

This morning we set out for the Laurentian Mountains and make our way north into Quebec to Mont Tremblant. The region of Mont Tremblant, the crown jewel of the Laurentians, consists of two mountains and three villages and although a well known ski resort it attracts visitors in the summer for both outdoor activities and relaxation. Your hotel, Le Lodge de la Montague is located near the action of the pedestrian village. During your time here you may wish to take the Panoramic Gondola to the summit for spectacular views of the lake and resort or explore the village. Throughout the summer season there are various festivals, markets and cultural activities taking place.

An early start today to make the most of the Beauce region, an area enriched by the Chaudiere River that flows from Lake Megantic just north of the American border into the St Lawrence River, and to enjoy the greatest concentration maple groves in Quebec. Shortly after crossing the St Lawrence River we stop at the Chaudière Falls, an impressive waterfall and suspension bridge, named ‘asticou’ (boiler) by the Abenaki Indians, because of the kettle-shaped basin at the foot of the cascades. The river was the scene of a gold rush in 1846 when a nugget the size of a pigeon’s egg was found. By the beginning of the 20th century over $1 million worth of gold had been extracted. Our route takes us along the tree-lined banks of the Chaudière as we pass through the towns of Saint Marie, Valley Junction, Saint Joseph de Beauce and Beauceville. Our stopping place at lunchtime is Lake Megantic, a fisherman’s paradise and one of the most gorgeous lakeside spots even by Canadian standards. This afternoon we travel to North Hatley, which sits at the northern end of the Lake Massawippi and was a popular second home for wealthy Americans during the 1920s before we continue to our hotel, Manoir des Sables in Magog for an overnight stay.

Day 5. Mont Tremblant – Quebec City This morning we ride out into the heart of the Laurentians, ascending on a mountain-penetrating route past a series of lakes. We approach St Donat de Montcalm, via noble Mt Noire and make our lunch time stop in the village grandly located on the shores of Lake Archambault. This afternoon a descent into the foothills brings us to Rawdon, through winding country roads to Joliette, and northwards along the St Lawrence River to Quebec City and the Hilton Quebec.

Day 6. Quebec City This morning we enjoy a guided tour of Quebec City with its fort, gates and cannons, narrow cobbled streets and ancient grey stone houses. Later you are free to further discover the old walled city and visit the many interesting shops, enjoy fine French cuisine and maybe take a walk along the promenade overlooking the St Lawrence River, You may wish to take a horse-drawn carriage around the old city – a great way to become acquainted.

Day 7. Charlevoix Coastline An early start through the environs to enjoy the pleasures of the zealously protected Charlevoix Coastline. Its bay side views are overlooked at a number of vantage points by the winding cliff top road and the second-home villas of rich Quebecois, discreetly hidden in groves of mature trees and exotic flora. On leaving the city we pass the Chute Montmorency Falls. Descending to Baie-Saint-Paul, where the Gouffre and St Lawrence Rivers meet, we enjoy wonderful views of the valley and the Ile aux Coudres in the middle of the St Lawrence. A further steep descent to Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive – once a thriving ship building centre – takes us on an enchanting riverside route before ascending once again and arriving at the Auberge des 3 Canards. We continue our drive to Baie-Sainte-Catherine where we board our Croisieres AML ship to enjoy an included lunch and whale-watching cruise. Krill and caplin drawn by the plankton in these waters attract the whales, most likely sighted off which are the fin, minke and beluga whales. If we are lucky we may even see the odd humpback or even a blue whale, the largest mammal on earth. After the cruise we return to our hotel in Quebec.

Okanagan Valley | Golden Mile | Vancouver Island | Niagara Peninsula | Prince Edward County Okanagan Valley The rolling hills of this lakeside BC region are well worth the drive from Vancouver. Studded among the vine-striped slopes are more than 100 wineries enjoying a diverse climate that fosters both crisp whites and bold reds. With varietals including pinot noir, pinot gris, pinot blanc, merlot and chardonnay, there’s a wine here to suit almost every palate. Most visitors base themselves in Kelowna, the Okanagan’s wine capital, before fanning out to well-known blockbuster wineries like Mission Hill, Quail’s Gate, Cedar Creek and Summerhill Pyramid Winery (yes, it has a pyramid). Many of them also have excellent vista-hugging restaurants.

Golden Mile Some of BC’s best Okanagan wineries are centered south of the valley around the historic town of Oliver, where the Golden Mile’s hot climate fosters a long, warm growing season. Combined with gravel, clay and sandy soils, this area is ideally suited to varietals like merlot, chardonnay, gewürztraminer and cabernet sauvignon. While the

20 or so wineries here are not actually crammed into one mile – it’s more like 20km – the proximity of celebrated producers like Burrowing Owl, Tinhorn Creek and Road 13 Vineyards makes this an ideal touring area. And if you’re still thirsty, continue south to Osoyoos and check out Nk’Mip Cellars, a First Nations winery on the edge of a desert.

Vancouver Island Long-established as a farming area, Vancouver Island’s verdant Cowichan Valley is also home to some great little wineries. A short drive from Victoria, you’ll find Averill Creek, Blue Grouse, Cherry Point Vineyards and Venturie-Schulze. Also consider Merridale Estate Cidery, which produces six celebrated ciders on its gently-sloped orchard grounds.

Niagara Peninsula This picture-perfect Ontario region of country inns and charming old towns offers more than 60 wineries and grows more than three-quarters of Canada’s grapes. Neatly divided between the

low-lying Niagara-on-the-Lake area and the higher Niagara Escarpment, its complex mix of soils and climates – often likened to the Loire Valley – is ideal for chardonnay, riesling, pinot noir and cabernetfranc varietals. This is also the production centre for Canadian icewine, that potently sweet dessert drink made from grapes frozen on the vine. Home to some of Canada’s biggest and best wineries, including Inniskillin, Jackson-Triggs and Peller Estates, don’t miss smaller pit-stops like Magnotta and Cave Spring Cellars in the Escarpment area.

Prince Edward County Proving that not all Ontario’s wineries are clustered in Niagara, this comparatively new grape-growing region – located in the province’s southeastern corner and almost three hours drive from Toronto – is a charming alternative if you want to avoid the tour buses winding through the main wine area. A long-established fruit-growing district with generally lower temperatures than Niagara, cooler-climate wines are favored here – including chardonnay and pinot noir. The most intriguing wineries include Closson Chase, Black Prince Winery and Grange

Eastern Townships | Montérégie | Nova Scotia of Prince Edward. If your taste buds are piqued, consider checking out other Ontario wine regions like Pelee Island and Lake Erie North Shore.

Eastern Townships Starting around 80km southeast of Montréal, this idyllic patchwork farmland region in Québec is studded with quiet villages, leafy woodlands, crystal clear lakes and winding countryside roads. A rising tide of wineries has joined the traditional farm operations here in recent years, with rieslings and chardonnays particularly suited to the area’s cool climate and soil conditions. But it’s the local icewines, dessert wines and fruit wines that are the area’s main specialities, so make sure you come with a sweet tooth. Wineries to perk up your tastebuds here include Domaine Félibre, Vignoble de L’Orpailleur and Vignoble le Cep d’Argent.

Montérégie The dominant player in Québec’s wider Eastern Townships, this bumpy and bucolic area is packed with vineyards and orchards (not to mention a

surfeit of maple groves). A major fruit farming region – this is an ideal spot to try ciders and flavor-packed fruit wines – growers here are happy to try just about any red or white varietal, but it’s their rosés that are particularly memorable. Recommended wineries include Domaine StJacques, Les Petits Cailloux and Vignoble des Pins; and keep in mind that Québec restaurants often encourage diners to bring their own bottles, so fill your car as you explore the region.

Nova Scotia Divided into six boutique wine-producing regions – from the warm shoreline of Northumberland Strait to the verdant Annapolis Valley – Nova Scotia’s two-dozen wineries are mostly just a couple of hours drive from big city Halifax. One of the world’s coldest grape-growing areas, cool-climate whites are a staple here, including a unique varietal known as l’Acadie Blanc. Innovative sparkling wines are a Nova Scotia specialty and they tend to dominate the drops that are on offer at the popular stops such as the excellent Benjamin Bridge Vineyards. Other highly recommended destinations to fill up your glass

include Gaspereau Vineyards, Jost Vineyards and Domaine De Grand Pre.

Golf in Canada

Prince Edward Island | Toronta and Niagara | British Columbia and Alberta Prince Edward Island

Crowbush Cove

Fly to – Halifax Golf is big business on Prince Edward Island. It was voted ‘Undiscovered Golf Destination of the Year’ in 2011 and with 32 courses on the island and 10 of Canada’s top 100 within 45 minutes of each other, it’s easy to see why. Our experts recommend:

Crowbush Cove Crowbush is regarded as a top 10 course in Canada and among North America’s finest layouts. Superb undulating fairways with views of the sea and strategically placed pot bunkers provide even the best players with a real challenge, and while nature has done its bit, the imagination and skills of Thomas McBroom make every round on this par 72, 6903 yard classic a very special experience.

Dundarave Dana Fry and Michael Hurzdan have created a spectacular course defined by towering pine trees, wide fairways and the peaceful Brudenell River that meanders through this beautiful natural environment. There are 5 tee positions on every hole and while the course extends well beyond 7000 yards from the PGA tees, it can still be enjoyed by the shorter hitters among us.

Legends on the Niagara

Toronto and Niagara Fly to - Toronto There are over 200 golf courses within an hour’s drive of the sophisticated city of Toronto, with many bearing the names of some of the world’s foremost course designers. As you would expect from a city like Toronto, there’s a huge range of accommodation, from small, friendly guesthouses to major international luxury hotel chains. Niagara has 48 golf courses including the very best public ‘pay and play’ facilities in the country. It is also one of Canada’s wine producing regions and golf itineraries can be designed to take in the region’s best kept secret. Our experts recommend:

Legends on the Niagara Legends on the Niagara is an incredible 45-hole complex just 30 minutes drive from the city of Toronto. It has two 18 hole championship courses, Battlefield and Ussher’s Creek, and both provide a very distinct and rewarding challenge. There is also a nine hole course and a superb practice facility all within this 1000 acre site.

Eagles Nest Golf Club Eagles Nest Golf Club is one of the newest but most impressive golf courses in the area. It was designed by Doug Carrick who combined his modern design philosophy with traditional elements and the natural environment to create this stunning links layout. There are over 100 Scottish - style pot bunkers on this 7476 yard golf course providing a tough but highly enjoyable test of golf.

British Columbia and Alberta Fly to - Vancouver

Furry Creek

The cosmopolitan city of Vancouver is surrounded by great golf courses - some carved from the imposing mountains and some using the rugged shorelines to define the layout. It has a great climate (most courses are open all year round), a superb range of accommodation and nightlife to suit even the most energetic. The nearby mountains of Alberta have seen the popularity of golf explode in recent years, and as a result, the area is home to some of the country’s ‘must play’ golf courses. Our experts recommend:

Furry Creek Golf and Country Club The 14th hole at Furry Creek has the distinction of being British Columbia’s most photographed hole. That is no surprise. It is set on a rocky outcrop that protrudes into the waters of the Howe Sound and features a tight dog-leg and a large contoured green. Other challenges on this modern classic include a dramtic 165ft drop from the first tee onto the beautifully manicured fairway…if you’re lucky.

Silvertip

Silvertip Golf Resort The course at Silvertip is regarded as among the most scenically rewarding golf courses in the world. It can play from a sedate 5200 to a mighty 7200 yards, meaning players off all levels will enjoy a round amidst the breath-taking natural surroundings. The wide, inviting fairways and manicured greens meander among crystal clear mountain ponds and lush forest, and golfers are often rewarded with a glimpse of some of the local wildlife.

The iconic Canadian moose, caribou, the elk, wolves, Arctic fox, not to mention the hundreds of species of birds and countless varieties of Arctic flowers. Knight Inlet is a 100 km long fjord carved by glaciers in the coastal mountains. This pristine wilderness is the native habitat of the Grizzly Bear. Every spring when the bears come out of hibernation, they can be seen from a boat on the banks of Glendale Cove eating sedge grasses, mussels and barnacles that abound in the cove. In the fall the bears feed heavily on the returning Salmon to the Glendale River and can be seen in large numbers from the specially constructed viewing platform. Situated 60 kilometres from the mouth of the inlet is Knight Inlet Lodge. The floating lodge is tucked into Glendale Cove, which offers one of the few protected anchorages in the inlet, and it is here that you will begin each day’s adventure. The lodge is an assortment of construction styles dating from the early 1940’s, when the original float housed a logging camp. Recent construction has provided modern buildings for guest accommodation. In the Palace, the Native House and the Lair, all of the rooms are cedar paneled and have private bathrooms for our guests’ comfort. Most of the rooms have one double/queen/king bed and a twin bed. With the addition of a cot

they can accommodate four in some of the rooms. Most of the guest buildings have lounges with wood burning stoves in them, for relaxing in the evening or on a cool day.

Canada City Breaks

Toronto For a big city, Toronto is an easy place to get to know. Travellers say they feel at home here, and that’s because it’s a homely place. It’s the scale of the place that you warm to – big enough to be interesting, but not so big that you feel lost or intimidated. Even on a cold winter’s day, it can feel welcoming; the blue skies take the edge off the cold chill, and coming in from a snowstorm, the restaurants, bars and shops feel cosy. That said, the city is arguably at its best in the other three seasons: in spring the midtown streets suddenly become forests; in summer the patio bars and waterfront come alive; in autumn the leaves change colour and the air is clean and crisp. Whatever season you come, don’t expect nonstop tourist attractions. Instead, slow down and stroll through the neighbourhoods, soaking up the different cultures that make their mark on Toronto.

EXPERIENCES CN Tower Royal Ontario Museum St Lawrence Market

60

CANADA 2013 / 2014

Kensington Market is a good place to start: this bustling, bohemian neighbourhood is where successive waves of new Canadians have forged their way and given colour to the cityscape. The Annex, Chinatown, Greektown, Cabbagetown, the Beach and Yorkville are other characterful districts that are worth a ramble. For inconspicuous consumption, veer away from the mainstream towards Toronto’s quirkier streets – West Queen West, the Danforth, College Street – where individuality comes across in unique shops and places to eat. Toronto’s kitchens are as multicultural as its population. Korean walnut cakes, Italian espresso, Malaysian laksas and face-melting Indian curries all in a day’s dining. Toronto also boasts some key tourist sights – many visitors aren’t happy until they get to the top of the CN Tower, until recently the world’s tallest. And of course Niagara Falls is a must. This is a big, beautiful, and efficient city, one that has emerged from relative obscurity over the past half-century to become the centre of culture, commerce, and communications in Canada. With its colourful ethnic mix, rich history, and breathtaking architecture, Toronto is nonstop adventure, from the top of the CN Tower to as far as the eye can see.

Montreal

Canada’s second-largest city may be the second-largest French-speaking metropolis on the planet (after Paris), but the attention lavished on its Frenchness — Bistros! Baguettes! People saying “Bonjour”! — tends to nudge aside the many other ethnic communities within Montreal’s remarkably diverse urban sprawl. Italians, Portuguese and Lebanese have a very visible presence, and the city hosts annual festivals dedicated to everything from Asian-American films to Caribbean food. Throw in a pulsing alternative community and creative scene and a whole new Montreal opens up. That said, it’s this secret blend of French-inspired joie de vivre and cosmopolitan dynamism that has come together to create such an exciting city.

A city culture that has fostered a flourishing arts scene, a music explosion, a medley of world-renowned boutique hotels, the Plateau’s extraordinary range of fantastic restaurants and a cool Parisian vibe that pervades every terrace in the Quartier Latin. It’s easy to imagine you’ve been transported to a distant locale, where hedonism is the national mandate. Only the stunning vista of a stereotypical North American skyline from Parc du Mont Royal’s Kondiaronk Lookout will ground you. Whether your passion is Syrian cuisine, contemporary art or vintage shopping, Montreal serves it up with aplomb.

EXPERIENCES St Joseph’s Oratory Mount Royal Old Montreal

Quebec

With its alluring setting atop Cape Diamond (Cap Diamant), Quebec is a city of delightfully stark, yet virtually seamless contrasts; centuries-old fortification walls lead to chic open-kitchen restaurants, and cobblestone streets give way to bike paths and innovative art institutions. The capital of Quebec province, and one of the oldest cities in North America, Quebec City received a major face lift before its 400th anniversary in 2008.

EXPERIENCES Montmorency Falls Old Quebec National Museum of Fine Arts

The only walled city north of Mexico, visitors come for the delicious and inventive cuisine, the remarkable historical continuity, and to share in the seasonal exuberance of the largest Francophone population outside of France. It has much of the charm of major European cities: It’s largely walkable with great public transportation, its architectural gems are both modern and historic, and it’s imbibed with a vibrant culture and history - bronze church spires and picture perfect sidewalk cafés. But Quebec also has a vivacious rebel of French chic, liberal attitude, sinfully delicious cuisine and beautiful people. You’ll find the Québécois as vibrant and inviting as the colourful Victorian facades, lush rolling hills and romantic bistros strewn across this magnificent province. And it’s a Canadian province,

so you’re never too far away from nature, proudly paraded in protected parks, majestic mountain ranges and windswept rugged coastlines. The rustic allures of old Québec are scattered among the Eastern Townships, and produce from the farmlands the fayre that graces the region’s stellar restaurants. The Laurentians abound with ski resorts and peaks, while the jagged coasts of the unblemished Gaspé Peninsula and the cliffs soaring high above the Saguenay River are equally as breathtaking. Bonjour Quebec!

Vancouver If you had to pick a perfect spot to build a city, Vancouver wouldn’t be a bad place to start. Look up and take in the snow-capped mountains. Walk 20 minutes from downtown and relax on a beach or in Stanley Park. Ski in the morning, sail in the afternoon, and eat in some of North America’s finest restaurants in the evening. Consistently ranked as one of the world’s most livable cities, Vancouver lures visitors with its abundance of natural beauty, multicultural vitality, and cosmopolitan flair. Indeed, the Vancouver package is a delicious juxtaposition of urban sophistication and on-your-doorstep wilderness adventure. The Rocky Mountains, the Pacific Ocean and virgin rain forests surround this busy city.

When planning your sightseeing, you could easily organise it as a series of walks radiating out from the centre of town, usually considered to be the Vancouver Art Gallery. You don’t have to stray far to cover the bases: shopping, great restaurants, beaches and nature are cheekby-jowl and you can taste them all in a day – though you’ll need longer to savour them. For shopping head to Robson Street, the city’s most popular shopping destination. Or try the boutiques of Yaletown. You’ll discover that the ‘real Vancouver’ is in the glamorous Commercial Dr coffee shops, the hipster hangouts of SoMa, the streets of the West End, the kaleidoscopic thoroughfares of Chinatown and the historic, re-invigorated old streets of Gastown. For many, Vancouver truly is an urban adventure with some of Canada’s most fantastic outdoor attractions, right on its doorstep.

attraction is the vast assortment of state-of-the-art museums. From the smooth undulating walls of the uber modern Museum of Civilization, to the haunting gothic arches of the Museum of Nature, each attraction is an inspired architectural gesture with an intriguing exhibition space. This city is a uniquely beautiful place: an urban centre on the edge of nature where you’ll enjoy the great outdoors. There’s an easy cosmopolitan vibe here, and Ottawa is known for being both welcoming and walkable. Explore the distinctive local neighbourhoods, including the historic ByWard Market: by day this area boasts a bustling farmers’ market and chic shops, by night

it hums with activity at the restaurants, pubs, and nightclubs. Ottawa’s cultural diversity is evident in the mix of local cuisine. Chinatown and Little Italy have been local mainstays for quite some time, but recent years have witnessed an influx of dynamic flavours from Africa, France, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia, not to mention a variety of aboriginal choices. This is a city that enjoys the finer things in life, with a culinary community that’s earning wide acclaim, unique boutiques and shopping districts, a lively local music and art scene, and always exciting nightlife.

Victoria Victoria, the capital of a province whose license plates brazenly label it “The Best Place on Earth,” is a walkable, livable seaside town of fragrant gardens, waterfront paths, engaging museums, and beautifully restored 19th-century architecture. With a district population approaching 350,000, the picture-postcard provincial capital of British Columbia was long-touted as North America’s most English city. Sit down to the elegant repast in the hotel’s Tea Lobby, Library or Harbourside Room, which overlooks the sailboats, yachts and floatplanes of Victoria’s dazzling Inner Harbour. British Columbia’s capital city blends its British colonial history with a funky, west-coast fashion-and-arts vibe. Find European boutiques in charming Trounce Alley. Explore Antique Row along Fort Street; visit art galleries and designers’ studios throughout the downtown core. In colourful Bastion Square, mingle among street vendors and artisans. Walk under the Gate of Harmonious Interest to enter the oldest Chinatown in Canada. Stay for dim

sum and to shop for curios down Fan Tan Alley, once the site of the city’s infamous opium dens and gambling houses. You can see a replica of Chinatown and Victoria’s turn-of-the-19th-century wood-paved streets at the Royal BC Museum. Visit world-famous Butchart Gardens for its glorious sunken gardens and blue Himalayan poppies. Take a Vancouver Island winery tour or visit towering Craigdarroch and Hatley castles. In the summer, watch a symphony in the harbour, take a horse-drawn carriage ride, or meet people from around the world simply out and about on the city’s popular seawall stroll. Victoria’s good looks, gracious pace, and manageable size are instantly beguiling, especially if you stand back to admire the mountains and ocean beyond.

Banff is one of Canada’s most popular ski resorts. At an altitude of over 4,500 feet, Banff’s snowfall is heavy and reliable, so you can count on amazing skiing in these extraordinary mountains. A protected natural area for over 100 years, it offers some of the best powder skiing in Canada. Banff boasts 3 ski resorts and 240 trails, offering countless options to skiers and snowboarders of any ability, and in particular lower intermediate skiers. Choose from wide open bowls, tree-lined glades or meticulously groomed slopes with state-of-the-art snowmaking or those up for a challenge can turn their hand to heli-skiing. To ski all of the three main ski areas, buy a Tri-Area lift pass; the Pass includes transport costs and access to more than 7,500 acres of terrain.

Banff is a lively place, with loads of things to do besides skiing. Soothe those aching limbs at the hot springs, try dog sledding for the experience of a lifetime whilst taking in the breathtaking scenery of the Rockies, take an ice canyon walk or go snowshoeing. And don’t forget to head to Banff Avenue with loads of bars, restaurants and shops. Banff offers great all-round value – a Banff ski pass covers all 3 of its resorts: Ski Norquay (4 miles from Banff), the larger ski areas of Sunshine Village (10 miles), Lake Louise Mountain Resort (35 miles). It’s easy to ski all 3 areas during your holiday as they are connected by regular, efficient, free shuttle buses picking up from lodgings in Banff and Lake Louise.

We can also offer you an arbitration scheme for the resolution of disputes arising out of, or in connection with this contract. Further information on the Code and arbitration can be found on ABTA’s website www.abta.com. It provides for a simple and inexpensive method of arbitration on documents alone with restricted liability on you in respect of costs. Full details will be provided on request or can be obtained from the ABTA website. The scheme does not apply to claims for an amount greater than £5,000 per person. There is also a limit of £25,000 per booking form. Neither does it apply to claims which are solely in respect of physical injury or illness or their consequences. The scheme can however deal with compensation claims which include an element of minor injury or illness subject to a limit of £1,000 on the amount the arbitrator can award per person in respect of this element. The application for arbitration and Statement

of Claim must be received by IDRS within nine months of the date of return from the holiday. Outside this time limit arbitration under the Scheme may still be available if the company agrees, but the ABTA Code does not require such agreement. For injury and illness claims, you may like to use the ABTA/Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Mediation Procedure. This is a voluntary scheme and requires us to agree for mediation to go ahead. The aim is to help you resolve your dispute in a quick and cost effective way. Details on request or from www.abta.com. 4. YOUR HOLIDAY PRICE We reserve the right to alter the prices of any of the holidays shown in our brochure/website. You will be advised of the current price of the holiday that you wish to book before your contract is confirmed. When you make your booking you must pay a deposit, dependent on the particular holiday package booked. The balance of the price of your travel arrangements must be paid at least 12 weeks before your departure date. If the deposit and/or balance is not paid in time, we shall cancel your travel arrangements. If the balance is not paid in time we shall retain your deposit. The price of your travel arrangements was calculated using exchange rates quoted in the Financial Times Guide to World Currencies in relation to the following currencies: Canadian Dollar 1.54. The cost of your deposit is dependent on the particular package you have booked (eg certain flight tickets and low cost carriers require full payment at time of booking) and can vary from £150 up to the full holiday cost. Changes in transportation costs, including the cost of fuel, dues, taxes or fees chargeable for services such as landing taxes or embarkation or disembarkation fees at ports and airports and exchange rates mean that the price of your travel arrangements may change after you have booked. However there will be no change within 30 days of your departure. We will absorb and you will not be charged for any increase equivalent to 2% of the price of your travel arrangements, which excludes insurance premiums and any amendment charges. You will be charged for the amount over and above that, plus an administration charge of £1.00 per person. If this means that you have to pay an increase of more than 10% of the price of your travel arrangements, you will have the option of accepting a change to another holiday if we are able to offer one (if this is of equivalent or higher quality you will not have to pay more but if it is of lower quality you will be refunded the difference in price), or cancelling and receiving a full refund of all monies paid, except for any amendment charges. We will consider an appropriate refund of insurance premiums paid if you can show that

you are unable to transfer or reuse your policy. Should you decide to cancel for this reason, you must exercise your right to do so within 14 days from the issue date printed on your final invoice. Should the price of your holiday go down due to the changes mentioned above, by more than 2% of your holiday cost, then any refund due will be paid to you. However, please note that travel arrangements are not always purchased in local currency and some apparent changes have no impact on the price of your travel due to contractual and other protection in place. 5. IF YOU CHANGE YOUR BOOKING If, after our confirmation invoice has been issued, you wish to change your travel arrangements in any way, for example your chosen departure date or accommodation, we will do our utmost to make these changes but it may not always be possible. Any request for changes to be made must be in writing from the person who made the booking. You will be asked to pay an administration charge of £20 per person, and any further cost we incur in making this alteration. You should be aware that these costs could increase the closer to the departure date that changes are made and you should contact us as soon as possible. Note: Certain travel arrangements (e.g. nonflexible flight tickets or low cost airlines) may not be changeable after a reservation has been made and any alteration request could incur a cancellation charge of up to 100% of that part of the arrangements.

6. IF YOU CANCEL YOUR HOLIDAY You, or any member of your party, may cancel your travel arrangements at any time. Written notification from the person who made the booking on your behalf must be received at our offices. Since we incur costs in cancelling your travel arrangements, you will have to pay the applicable cancellation charges up to the maximum shown in clause 7. Note: If the reason for your cancellation is covered under the terms of your insurance policy, you may be able to reclaim these charges. 7. IF WE CHANGE OR CANCEL YOUR HOLIDAY It is unlikely that we will have to make any changes to your travel arrangements, but we do plan the arrangements many months in advance. Occasionally, we may have to make changes and we reserve the right to do so at any time. Most of these changes will be minor and we will advise you of them at the earliest possible date. We also reserve the right in any circumstances to cancel your travel arrangements. For example, if the minimum number of clients required for a particular travel arrangement is not reached, we may have to cancel it. However, we will not cancel your travel arrangements less than 6 weeks before your departure date, except for reasons of force majeure or failure by you to pay the final balance. If we are unable to provide the booked travel arrangements, you can either have a refund of all monies paid or accept an offer of alternative travel arrangements of comparable standard from us, if available (we will refund any price difference if the alternative is of a lower

value). If it is necessary to cancel your travel arrangements, we will pay to you compensation as set out in this clause. In accordance with EU Regulation 2111/2005 we are required to advise you of the actual carrier operating your flight/connecting flight/transfer. We do this by listing carriers to be used or likely to be used by advising at time of booking. Any changes to the actual airline after you have received your tickets will be notified to you as soon as possible and in all cases at check-in or at the boarding gate. Such a change is deemed to be a minor change. Other examples of minor changes include alteration of your outward/return flights by less than 12 hours, changes to aircraft type, change of accommodation to another of the same standard. If we make a major change to your holiday, we will inform you or your travel agent as soon as reasonably possible if there is time before your departure. You will have the choice of either accepting the change of arrangements, accepting an offer of alternative travel arrangements of comparable standard from us if available (we will refund any price difference if the alternative is of a lower value), or cancelling your booked holiday and receiving a full refund of all monies paid. In all cases, except where the major change arises due to reasons of force majeure, we will pay compensation as detailed below:
