FANCOURT OUTENIQUA Where: GEORGE | When: Dec-6, Sunday Named after the mountain range that overlooks the surrounding area, the Outeniqua Golf Course has a different look and feel than its sibling Montagu. Being more open in appearance, it is often mistaken as the easier of the two layouts. However, Outeniqua is not without its share of risk-and-reward moments. Water comes into play on as many as 11 of the holes, including 4 of the last 5. The signature Par-3 15th hole plays around 140 meters with the elevated tee box looking down towards the green. The fairly large green is surrounded by water and one small bunker on the front right; so the ploy would be to aim for the middle. You will throughly enjoy a par on this hole.

PINNACLE POINT Where: MOSSEL BAY | When: Dec-7, Monday If there was ever a location that justifies the term ‘breathtaking’, it is Pinnacle Point. Perched high atop the rocky cliffs that overlooks the virgin beachfront of Indian Ocean, the lush fynbos sharply contrast with the ochre rocks and azure sea for a series of postcard frames. Seven holes play across chasms to the greens that seem to be floating above the ocean. Course designer Peter Matkovich hails this as “the most dramatic golf course on earth”. The signature par3 13th requires hitting over a deep gorge with the large but narrow green protected by waste bunkers on the left and the ocean on right. Do watch out for the wind if it blows. You will repent for not carrying the camera on this course!

SIMOLA GC Where: KNYSNA | When: Dec-8, Tuesday Keeping your head down at Simola Golf Course can be a challenge; simply because the views around the course are awe-inspiring. All holes boast exceptional views; either across the Lagoon all the way to the Knysna Heads or over the picturesque River as it twists and turns through the valley below. Simola is also the first Jack Nicklaus Signature course on the Garden Route, and reflects the Golden Bear’s principle of attuning the layout to the natural lie of the land. Set below the high ridges, it’s free from the wind that often plagues coastal courses, and the unusual configuration of par 5's and par 3's adds a refreshing new dimension to the game. The signature Par-3 17th hole has a green with water on the right and a large bunker on the left.

FANCOURT MONTAGU Where: GEORGE | When: Dec-9, Wednesday The Montagu parklands layout is part of the original 27-hole design at Fancourt by the legendary Gary Player in the early 90s. Named after the mountain pass of the same name, the Montagu Course underwent a major facelift in 2005 under renowned Scottish golf architect David McLay Kidd. The upgrade saw two completely new holes - the 1st and the 9th., redefined bunkers and greens and introduction of several water features such as the dam. Celebrated for its immaculate, round the year conditioning, the Montagu GC is currently ranked at #6 in South Africa (Golf Digest, 2014). The signature hole is the Par-3 17th, reminiscent of the 12th hole at Augusta National - the permanent home of the US Masters.

December 2015 | GARDEN ROUTE
DAY ONE Saturday, December 5, 2015 Arrive at George Airport where you will be met and transferred to South Africa's premier golf resort: the gorgeous Fancourt. After check-in and unpack spend the rest of the day at leisure. Perhaps set off in exploring the worldclass facilities at this five-star golf resort that blends old-world charm with contemporary luxuries. Later, meet fellow competitors for a Welcome Cocktail & Dinner at the Morning Glory Restaurant which overlooks the 1st tee at the Outeniqua Golf Course. Meet up with the Tournament Director and members of the Organizing Committee to discuss about the exciting days ahead.
DAY TWO Sunday, December 6, 2015 After breakfast, enjoy your first round on the Outeniqua Golf Course - the deceptive parklands layout with water involved in 11 holes. Tee-times start from 09h20 and groups that have booked together will get to play together. Your round of golf includes a shared cart and lunch at the halfway house. This evening, have fun in looking for golfers with the steadiest putt, best chip and incredible luck! There are great prizes to be won in multiple Putting, Chipping & Hole-in-One contests. Relish a South African BBQ dinner around the roaring fire at the Fancourt Boma, and dance your way into the night under a starlit African sky.
DAY THREE Monday, December 7, 2015 This morning, a 45 minutes transfer takes you to the Pinnacle Point Golf Course in Mossel Bay. Set high above the rocky cliffs and virgin beachfront of the Indian Ocean, Pinnacale Point is often billed as South Africa’s answer to the legendary Pebble Beach; and not just for the resemblance to the iconic 7th hole alone. After your round, freshen up at the clubhouse before heading next door to the Garden Route Casino for an evening on the tables or slot machines. A private venue will be booked for you and there will be lessons for those new to the game. Dinner, music and entertainment will complete a memorable day.

Day 3: Dec 7, Monday
Day 2: Dec 6, Sunday CANGO CAVES & OSTRICH FARMS The spectacular underground wonder of Little Karoo - Cango Caves, owes its origin to a flaw in the Swartberg mountains. Water and time have combined over 20 million years to create a series of caverns and corridors that cut deep into the limestone rock to mirrors a surreal ambience. The dripstones consist of stalagmites and stalactites formations that range from the miniature to the massive. Most have names like Lot’s Wife & Cleopatra’s Needle!
Day 5: Dec 9, Wednesday HEROLD WINES: LUNCH & WINE TASTING
Neil MacRae
neilmacrae@golfkings.co.uk
An un-missable experience when in Oudtshoorn - Feather Capital of the World - is a visit to an Ostrich Farm. The bird is the pride of this quaint town and cuddling the adorable chicks is an experience that you’re unlikely to forget. You can feed these giant ‘camel-birds’ which are farmed for their feather, skin, eggs and the lean meat. And if you’re feeling really brave, try riding one for a great photo and bragging rights back home.
Day 4: Dec 8, Tuesday
Visit Cape St Blaize Cave and Bartolomeu Dias Museum which houses the Post Office Tree - an ancient milkwood which served as an ingenious letter-box for the Portuguese in 1500. Later, take a boat ride for dolphins and other marine wildlife into the ocean.
MONKEYLAND AND BIRDS OF EDEN
Monkeyland is a free-roaming multi-species sanctuary that is home to over 600 previously caged primates from 11 species. The guided tours tracks a variety of tree hugging in their natural habitat, from the Gibbons of Asia to the Lemurs of Madagascar. A thrilling walk on the suspension bridge can bring you face to face with a resident in the middle of their incredible antics.

MOSSEL BAY TOUR WITH BOAT RIDE
Birds of Eden offers a fresh lease of life to over 200 previously caged birds, and offers a parallel experience of paradise to its visitors. The large dome emulates thunder storms, with renditions of claps of thunder and short cloudbursts. Be enthralled by the overwhelming experience with the hundreds of birds as they swoop, fly and call around you.
