MSU Summer Theatre was started in 1965 by Harold Aleshire and Thomas Turner, as a touring theatre, and had several venues such as Tent Theatre until the Amphitheatre was built in 1970. Under the tutelage of MSU professor Kevin R. Neuharth, MSU Summer Theatre showcased local students as well as celebrity guests such as John Carradine. MSU Summer Theatre continues to showcase local talents each year while also bringing in guest artists from around the country. In 1995, Artistic Director Chad Gifford acted in his ﬁrst show at Summer Theatre and was involved off and on in various capacities until he took a leadership role in 2008 and has been part of the organization since then. Executive Director

Peg Morris ﬁrst joined the company in 2007 and has been working at her “favorite place on Earth” ever since. In 2020, MSU Summer Theatre unveiled Phase 1 of the Renovation Project, which included new aisles in the audience, new deck seating, and the new Hook & Ladder Wine Bar. In 2021, Phase 2 will be unveiled which will show the largest part of the $2.5 million dollar project. A new concessions stand and ticket window will greet customers in the plaza while audience members will enjoy new, larger bathrooms and more accessible walkways leading to all areas of the seating. Backstage, new dressing rooms and ofﬁces will keep performers much more comfortable as they

prepare to showcase Season 57.

While the season has not yet been ﬁnalized at this time, several crowd favorites are being considered for Season 57. Shows such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Sound of Music, Arsenic and Old Lace, Escape to Margaritaville, Moon over Buffalo, A Taste of Things to Come, and The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 are all currently under consideration. “Follow the MSU Summer Theatre homepage at www.msusummertheatre.com or their Facebook page for updates on the upcoming season as well as ﬁnding out more information on how you can help Summer Theatre reach their goals for the Renovation Project.”
