Hyochang yard : A stadium that has become a piece of a city Thesis project / 개인작품 2020 / Academic project LOCATION Hyochangwonro 177-15, Hyochang, Yongsan, Seoul, Korea CATEGORY Sports / Office / Community / Park
Hyochang Stadium is located between Hyochang-dong residential area and Hyochang Park. Hyochang Stadium and Hyochang-dong residential area are close enough to reach the area by crossing only one four-lane road. However, the psychic distance between the residents and Hyochang Stadium is far. More than half of the year remains empty. The construction area of Hyochang Stadium is more than 100 times the average building area of residential buildings such as nearby villas. By this huge space, the area divides into Y shape with Hyochang Stadium in between. Therefore, Hyochang Stadium, which has become a problem in the city, will be melted back into the city. We want to return Hyochang Stadium to the city, residents and parks. First, the form of Hyochang Stadium meeting with nearby areas was divided into three parts: where cities and cities meet / where cities and pitch meet / where parks and pitch meet. The part where cities meet reflected the urban context of the region. When viewed from the city, the existing stadium, which used to be like a huge wall, was divided into several small masses to create a mass of building area similar to a nearby building. And these divided masses were grouped together through the elements of the stadium called the stands. The mass becomes an alleyway, and finally meets the stadium at the end of the alley. Between the city and the stadium met end of the alley, there are stands which not only bind the divided mass together but also provide a resting place. On the day of the event used as stands. Space below the stands is used as an arcade. The lower space of the city is extended outward through this arcade, connected to the road and stadium. As necessary, the stadium can function as a city yard from the lower part of the city to the stadium. Walking up the stands of the stadium as stairs, people can get to Hyochang Park. But people cannot find the stadium hidden under a huge green roof in the park. The green roof protects audiences from sunlight and rain and restores part of the damaged Hyochang Park. At the stadium, games are currently held only on weekends and weekday evenings. So I brought public offices into the stadium and provided kindergarten and sports facilities that have not been provided nearby. In particular, the office and kindergarten are used from morning to evening on weekdays, creating reasons for them to visit the stadium, even if there is no match.

My main concept is to expose as many books as possible to people. When I started this project, I started looking for interviews with librarians. Among them, the interview of the librarian at Cornell University’s Design Library was very impressive. She explained about their library, saying that it was also part of the study to find another book by chance while someone was looking for a book in the library.
How to keep trees
Current status of the library in Samsun. When I visited the OMU library, I observed 157 users in an hour, and 152 users were studying through laptops, notebooks and handouts. I also visited the ATATURK ILCE HALK library. Among the 76 users, only three were reading. So I wanted to design a library so that people could become more familiar with books and encounter many books while they were studying. Therefore, the name of my library is BOOK FOREST.
1 Current status of the trees in site
The following are analysis and solutions. First, there is a highway next to this area. There’s a lot of trees, but high part of the building get the noise. So I designed a low building to avoid from the noise. Second, the city can be divided into two areas. The beach side is horizontal, and the mountain side is vertical. So, I designed a low building on the beach side of the beach and kept it horizontal. Third, there are many trees in this area. To protect the tree, I designed the building a certain distance away from the tree. Fourth, this area is approached by many people from various directions. Therefore, I made streets to connect important entrances. Finally, bus riders come from the highway level, and tram riders come by the underpass. So, I connected two different levels through my building.
2 Site after the demolition
TOTAL 115 TREES 72 TREES ARE STAYED IN PLACE 17 TREES ARE MOVED 26 TREES ARE ADDED
KEEPED TREE
In this project, one another main thing was huge trees in this site. I tried to keep trees as much as possible. To keep trees, I checked usable spaces between trees and put masses. Through these there are 116 trees. 72 trees are stayed in place, 17 trees are moved to the adjacent area. And 26 trees are newly planted.
MOVED TREE ADDED TREE
3 Spaces between the trees
4 Tree preservation plan
The three separate libraries are connected underground, and the connection parts was intended to reduce noise transmission by placing facilities that could cause noise, such as a cafeteria, a copy room and a multimedia room. The library and office are connected by a small passageway, making it easy to transport books after work. The cafe is located in the center of the site and close to a small square on campus, designed for use by many people. Underpass lead to the inside of the building, and through the steps on the roof, people can reach the library and campus level from sidewalk next to the highway.
How to use the square
The broad square north of the library can be used as a concert and busking concert hall for music colleges and an outdoor exhibition hall for architecture and art universities. They can also hold book-related festivals and hold sports events.

MONAMI Headquarters on Pimatgol 1st semester, 3rd grade 2018 / Academic project LOCATION Jongro 89, Jongro, Seoul, Korea CATEGORY Office
This site is located at the corner of a large crossroads where the streets named Samil-daero and Jongno meets, with a historical alley named Pimatgol. It has three main factors to consider while working on the project; keep Pimatgol, have various facade to be visible when approaching from the roads, form a plan suitable for the various departments MONAMI.

First, a diagonal path linking Jongno and Samil-daero was built on the first floor of the site to save the existing Pimatgol. This road is connected to existing Pimatgol, allowing people who move to Jongno~Samil-daero to witness the road. In addition, it is easy to identify signs by forming an elevation in zigzag form rather than just poking a road, and it has increased its commerciality by increasing the level of contact with roads. Facades you look on the street are varied. The elevation in the Pimatgol is exposed to terraces, an extension of the complexity of the outdoor stage, an emergency staircase seen in the existing Pimatgol. There is a passageway from Insadong and on the entrance of the building, you can see people moving through the building. This view gives you the impression that people walking along the street in Insadong-gil is extended to the facade. If you walk into the path of Pimatgol inside the ground from Jongno, you will see small shops zigzagging like the existing Pimatgol. The rooftop garden will raise the use of stores. The office floor was divided into four categories. The space of the sales and business units was a common workspace, with five teams and two conference rooms. For design teams, there was another conference room, and the lab was divided into dry and wet labs. Many meetings are held in HANGSO and MONAMIPET. Therefore, several small conference rooms and meeting rooms were deployed.

HONGIK School of Architcture Building Renovation 2nd semester, 3rd grade 2018 / Academic project LOCATION Building Z, Hongik university, Mapo, Seoul, Korea CATEGORY Educational
We learn Architecture by various channels. We study the theory of masters in the past, help seniors and learn skills. I also do case studies to find similar projects and find the elements I need in those projects. Currently, Hongik shcool of architecture is walled up in the design room and locked with a door lock. These spatial characteristics make it difficult to appreciate other people’s work or listen to others’ creations. Therefore, the educational value that Hongik University’s College of Architecture should pursue in the future is learning beyond the shoulders of students’ mutual communication. To implement the concept of ‘learning over the shoulder’, the existing parking lot was built underground with a steel structure to create a large space, and the public space, such as lecture rooms, libraries, and large classrooms, was placed. Existing elementary schools built 4.5m wide to secure interior space and placed design rooms on the second and third floors. A catwalk (CATWALK) was installed from the design room to the public space so that various act ivities of other students could be observed while on the move. On the roof of the court yard, the ceiling and sunkens were made so that the area of contact with the outside could be increased for the light and ventilation. At the same time, there are ways to get inside the building through the sunkens and to enter the first, second, and third floors through the roof of the court yard that become moving lines connecting between the outside and the inside. The facade from the west considered a small-scale residential area. It can be divided into small grids, and the folding doors can be installed to adjust the size of the opening as needed. This gives the impression that the face is divided into smaller scales. It also consists of Double-Faç ade, which filters out light from the west through depth.
