01 COLLIDE people and proportion Design Logics
Fall 2017
Collide is an abstraction of a hand gesture in a finely crafted wood joint that considers the proportion and relationship of the interlocking pieces to the hands of the user. The model suggests interaction through carved hand holds. Separated, the modular pieces become vessel and cargo that can be reinterpreted at different scales. An investigation of tailored human iteration at scalar proportions in a search for the perfect ratio.

02 BIRD BLIND tectonics of a bird sanctuary Design II
Spring 2016
A sanctuary provides refuge and immunity from a chaotic outside. The path is a ribbon nested into the dense wood. Mind the trees. The steps towards the water are shielded by thin louvres merging to a single plane. A platform built up over the shoreline rewards a view of water birds upon the lake. A birdwatcher’s escape is complete.
The call of songbirds mingle with the lap of a nearby shoreline. Listen. Eyes on the trees—a bird dances. Closer. Float above the rippling landscape. Here.

03 CAPITAL VIEWS parametric transformations Design III
Fall 2016
Extruded geometric planes rise from the site and morph into each other overhead. Visitors below populate plazas shaded by a man made canopy. Drawn up into the expanding pillars, the space transforms from circulation to gallery to exhibit; volume expanding as curiosity elevates.
Under; a place too heavy. Above; a place too exposed. Within; a place elevates mind and body.

04 GLASS+SPHERE ephemeral environments Productions
Fall 2017
Our perception of reality is continuously distorted by a variety of internal and external filters. glass+sphere is an investigation of an object as a filter that creates atmosphere within an environment and the projection of filtered effects into experience. The final composition is an array of visual effects that distorts familiarity and awareness of materiality through an isolated capture of the distinction between atmosphere and environment.

05 INTERVENTIONS historic preservation and rehabilitation Design IV
Spring 2017
A historic preservation study with an emphasis on rehabilitating architecture and its inhabitants. Piercing courtyard spaces are installed within an extruded volume without interrupting the structure of the existing space. These light wells provide breathing room between the administrative program and a therapy mall for patients.

06 LANTERN value-based social relationships Integrated Design
Fall 2017
Lantern: a prototype platform that streamlines the social fabric of the University of Texas. Planning and coordinating student schedules limits time for more meaningful social activities. Lantern is a tool designed to address the needs of students when balancing their academic responsibilities and social lives.
How do students interact? How do students utilize space? How do students manage commitments? How do students value different relationships? How do students adapt to different social contexts?

07 COURTING DENSITY residential courtyard analysis Design VI
Spring 2018
The Johnson Thesis House was Philip Johnson’s thesis project from his time in the Harvard Graduate Program. Johnson blurs the threshold between interior and exterior space by dividing the rectangular house volume from the oversized courtyard with a single sheet of glazing. The precedent analysis of the Johnson Thesis House is an exercise in information mapping and detailed model crafting.

FLYCATCHER bird concept map Design II
Spring 2016
The Flycatcher is an informative visual detailing statistics and habits of the Texas native Scissor Tailed Flycatcher. The water colored tiles represent the coloring under the wings while the graphite drawing depicts the relationship of the wingspan size to the distinct elongated tail feathers that give the Scissor Tailed Flycatcher its name. The rings around the head represent the breeding period versus the mating period on the calendar year. The string and black bars represent flight patterns at different altitudes due to air density and cooler temperatures.

TONE value study Visual Communication I
Fall 2015
Tone is an exercise in applying value to create a realistic snapshot of an architectural feature. The reference photograph used captures a wall of glazing covered in vertical louvres. Light and the image of the rectangular louvres are reflected in the glass facade.
