Min Thet Hlaing Architectural Designer

Personal statement The Following quote perfectly describes my attitude towards architecture and designing a building. It is “Limitations encourage creativity”. We as an architect always need to find a way to create conventional buildings that encourages the relationships between spaces, environments, and life journeys. The more we are facing problems in the design, the more opportunity to embrace creativity. Never settle down a problem far away and accepting the problem as an opportunity would be my passion for designing in architecture.

Work Experience - One year experience at Site as site supervisor (2017-2018) (Performed as site supervisor and managed to the site for constructors. And also checked plan, drawings, quantities in accordance to the construction drawings.) -Two and half year experiences as an architectural designer at SPiNE Architects,Yangon (2018-2021) (As an architectural designer, I worked on a wide variety of projects both in architecture and interior design projects from concept to design development coordinating with project teams )

01A Linkage of Past, Present & Future - KoneBaung Dynasty Museum (Graduation Thesis)

History of KoneBaung Dynasty

The Konebaung dynasty was the last dynasty that ruled Burma from 1752 to 1885 and established the second-largest empire in Burmese history and continued the administrative reforms initiated by the Taungoo Dynasty. However, the reforms proved insufficient to stop the progress of the British, who had defeated Burma in all six decades of the Anglo-Burmese War (18241885) and the three Anglo-Burmese wars that ended in 1885. Due to political and strategic reasons, the capital was relocated several times throughout the Konebaung Dynasty.

Challenges Behind site choose and Project Goal The proposed site for KoneBaung Dynasty Museum is located in Mandalay, the second largest city in Myanmar and was used to be the last royal Capital of KoneBaung Dynasty. The project aims to become a way to optimize city operation and services and to connect with people through museum. Massive thing about the project is culture historical language and religious background to acknowledge people through museum. With ambitions of becoming a genuine smart city,Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC),was recently rewarded for its efforts, being named among the top five urban areas in Southeast Asia making progress toward smart-city status. By creating the building through emotions, the project can be a critical practice that identifies and questions the relationships of culture with society.

01A Linkage of Past, Present & Future - KoneBaung Dynasty Museum (Graduation Thesis)

The KoneBaung Dynasty Museum is located in Mandalay, the second largest city in Myanmar and was used to be the last royal Capital of KoneBaung Dynasty. The project is to create that inspires emotion with a pioneering and innovative design concept which will stand as a new-age iconicity and a symbolic to the history of KoneBaung Dynasty. The concept proposed form emerges from a new innovative creation by combination of abstract and wavy movement to express the linkage of past, present and future. The 22,900 square meter lot set aside for the museum touches the Mandalay Palace to the west while its north side wide opens into Mandalay Hill. The curvilinear and wavy form symbolizes the museum of while giving a spectacular orientation and fluctuation of KoneBaung Dynasty’s history. Using the language of architecture, the museum narrates tragedy of the past, vitality of the present and opens straight to the future. The museum’s spatial division into admin zone, service zone, public zone and exhibition zone. The building has about 6,600 square meters of floor area, of which the space for exhibition area covers around 2,200 square meters. Apart from the exhibition area,1,050 square meters are devoted for public area and 600 square meters for administration zone and 350 square meters for service zone respectively. The main mission of the museum is to serve as a center of education, culture, research and community. Museum is also iconography of city and serves as a matter of educating people. And then Community is also a very pivoted part in why people come to the museum. To get fitting into the history of KoneBaung Dynasty, creating a form that inspires emotion, then had to make a relation between it’s form and monumentality is the important part in designing this project.

01A Linkage of Past, Present & Future - KoneBaung Dynasty Museum (Graduation Thesis)

Going inside the building, the visitors will pass through the bridge that made up of glass panel and wooden panel connecting between the interior and exterior. Some of KoneBaung art can also be seen in the wooden panel. Bringing back the old KoneBaung art is a kind of linkage between past and present. In consideration of the structure of the building, light-weight dome structure with aluminaum cladding will be used. A wavy museum form is supported by 6 inner columns of varying sizes and shapes to resist lateral forces around the building. A dome space-frame structure creates resistance around the multiple sides of building and stabilizes the whole museum building. Referring the aluminum cladding gives building facades more diverse appearance. Depending on the weather and time, optimizing the preservation and durability of the entire building is becoming a fact to consider in the near future.

Malitt Gate & Sale Gallery (Phase 01)@ Yangon 03 Project description

The fully serviced industrial estate of New City industrial park is located in Malitt near Yangon. The industrial park is a special economic zone set up to attract oriented industrial investment and to build new city development which includes commercial zone, public zone, logistic zone, industrial zone, and residential zone. The new industrial development zone is envisioned to be part of the trade portal to the city and the development proposal is divided into two parts which are phase 01 & phase 02. The first proposal phase 01 encourages the city gate, sale gallery, and shop houses. The required landmark gateway into the new city industrial park itself needed to be environmentally sensitive and architecturally bold. The proposal of the new city industrial park is a futuristic architectural form of welcoming to the city and blended with the landscape. The idea of curvilinear building’s form is inspired by some parts of automobile machines and integrated with futuristic typology. According to the durability of the building, the whole structure of the gate and building will be considered as a steel frame structure with concrete cladding.

04 Summer Escapes in the Pine forest @ Kalaw

Master Plan

Site Analysis

Project description The 3.3 acres of pine wood villa is located in Innpyin (kalaw), the district of Taungyi and the site occupied with a bunch of pine trees and surrounded by a lake. In master-planning the villas in a pine forest is to respect and emphasize the beauty of the place and its views, not only of the lake but also of the pine forest surrounding it, and look forward to compromising the villa itself with the surrounding landscape. The villa’s facing to the west is in keeping with the best view of the lake, so a simple and sophisticated solution is sought to encourage the design aspect by using well-organized materials of design perception. With the consideration of giving the best view of a lake and a pine forest at the same time, swinging the roof up to the sky at the middle of the villa as a butterfly-type roof is the most possible approach which strengthens our design needs, that is to encounter the passage of light, breeze and the view of landscape surroundings. To endure the sunlight in the daytime, an intervention with materials such as rattans, bamboo bind rollers which aid as sunshades, results in an architectural aspect that combines environmental comfort with aesthetic beauty. By using the regional laterite stone is to maintain the local characteristics and reduce the impact of complex transportations.
