What is rehabilitation?

Rehabilitation is the procedure of assisting a person in achieving the maximum potential degree of function, individuality, and quality of life. It neither repairs nor removes the damage coming from sickness or distress; rather, it aids in the restoration of an individual’s health, wellbeing, and functioning. (Spectrum Health Lakeland 2021) Weeks and months following a tragedy, recovery and rehabilitation begin. This phase’s objective is to restore what was previously there, put communities on a better and safer development route, and help them recover more quickly. It entails the restoration of essential services (e.g., communications, commuter transportation, and residential power), infrastructure (e.g., roads and bridges), and livelihood (e.g., schools).
