FALL into Beauty
BY NANCY DUTIAUME, OWNER / MAKEUP ARTIST MADE BEAUTY COThe summer months of sun exposure has left our skin dehydrated and dull. Let’s simplify our Fall routine and incorporate skin brightening & hydrating products, with multi use items. Not only will they brighten and hydrate your elementally battered skin from the summer months, but also leave you with a perfect beauty routine for the upcoming harsher days.
DON’T STOP, WON’T STOP
Take some time to reassess your skincare routine going into Fall. I highly recommend continuing the use of an SPF product that also doubles as a moisturizer. I LOVE the Supergoop - Glowscreen SPF 40. A high glow product that leaves your skin hydrated with hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5 & antioxidants that protect your skin from free radicals. This product is tinted and the perfect base for your makeup application, or just enough coverage for those who prefer to go a little more natural with super high glow.
*Note from Nancy - For those with sensitive skin, high SPF CAN cause breakouts. Pay attention when using these products to identify your skins reaction.
ONLY STRATEGY NEEDED
We don’t always need an overall foundation. Strategic concealer placement with a super blendable, high coverage concealer is the perfect balance. Try Shiseido Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Concealer. This medium coverage, long wearing concealer refreshes itself through the day, with technology that reduces movement into fine lines and sweat and oil breakthrough. Use this alongside your tinted moisturizer, and this is all the coverage and long wear you need!
LASH IT UP
Our lashes can become brittle after swimming in pools & lakes, and slacking on our regular cleansing routines. Let’s get those lashes back in shape by using a lash enhancing primer. The Diorshow Maximizer 3D Triple Volume Plumping Lash Primer is a game changer. Double’s as a mousse, while caring for the health of your lashes! I’d say that’s a win win! This multi action primer serum not only enhances your lash volume over time, but volumizes, lengthens and curls lashes instantly.
NO MORE POWDER?
Who said we couldn’t give up powder for a few weeks? Umm… me. But hear me out. Let’s play a little this season while our skin transitions. Let’s skip the powder, and set ONLY with a hydrating setting spray! My recommendation, Ilia Blue Light Protect + Set Mist. This magical mist controls oil and refines pores, while giving the appearance of smoother skin. This additional boost of hydration and protection from free radicals, will have your skin feeling balanced.
*Note from Nancy - Use this mist before or after your makeup application, or both!
ALAS, MY LIPS!
Who found themselves dealing with swollen, blistered and painful lips from sunburn this summer? We often forget our lips when using SPF. Let’s repair that damage by using the LANEIGE - Lip Sleeping Mask Intense Hydration with Vitamin C. If you haven’t already used this product, what are you waiting for? Intensely hydrating with antioxidants to moisturize your lips while you sleep. Up to 8 hours of overnight hydration. Wake up with smoother, plumper, and extra delicious lips.
THE PERFECT MANE
BY BRITTANY MONKMAN SENIOR STYLIST MADE BEAUTY COMPANYith any change of season, we should re-evaluate the health of our hair. Long term sun exposure, chlorine and ponytails all play a part in damaging our hair. Just like our skin, hair suffers from UV exposure and sun damage. The cuticle becomes damaged creating fizziness, especially on colour treated hair. This causes less ability for your hair to retain moisture. Here are some ways for you to revamp your Summer damaged locks and bring back it’s youthfulness.
1 | THE CUT IS KEY
A good haircut is key to keeping your hair healthy and strong. Trimming dead ends regularly, before they become more damaged, will help prevent breakage travelling further up the strand. A post summer cut is a must. Breakage creates tangles, dryness and frizz. This weakens the structure, causing damage and dullness. Once you’ve had your locks refreshed, let’s get your hair back to its pre summer vibrancy using a Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner, and a rebuilding hair treatment. Speak to your stylist to help you choose which products are right for your hair.
2 | SEASONAL HAIR DECISIONS
Adding a fringe can seem like a good idea, especially when you’re looking for that Fall refresh. Really take a minute to decide if a fringe is the maintenance you’re hoping for. It may feel exciting to make this change, but consult with some friends, as well as your stylist to decide if a new fringe is right for you. This goes for any dramatic changes after the summer season. Be sure to take some time to consider the time and energy that will be required to maintain your new style.
3 | NO MORE TOP KNOTS
All that yanking, pulling & tightening causes additional damage. Elastics create tension, resulting in breakage and potential hair loss. Also remember, when your hair is wet, it’s in its weakest state. Make sure your hair is dry before heading to bed.
4 | ADD MORE RICHNESS
As the leaves turn into rich, beautiful colours, it’s only natural to want to mimic that change with our hair. Following this transition can restore shine and smoothness. If you’re changing your hair with the seasons, be sure to stick with demi-permanent hair colours. This will give you more options and will make the future lightening processes much easier for your stylist. Blondes can also add dimension and by having low lights added. You’ll love the newfound dimension and this will accentuate your blonde, rather than wash it out.
It’s not long now before the super dry months are upon us. Get your hair back to shape before winter hits, so your locks are healthy and beautiful, all year long.
FAST TRACK YOUR SUCCESS
with a gratitude superhighway
BY KIM RAAIJMAKERS
When you’re looking to be more successful, in the broadest sense of the definition of success, one key element is gratitude.
Now this isn’t you’re parent’s ‘you should be grateful for what you have’, because you probably rolled your eyes at that often enough. Or even resented this trite piece of advice because life is hard and there was so much messy stuff happening, how could you really be grateful for any of it!
So without minimizing where you’re at or what is going on in life, let’s uncover why gratitude can help fast track your success.
To start, let’s explore some basic facts of the inner working of your brain. You have 60,000+ thoughts every day, with over 80% of them being negative! Wow, that negativity bias is a real thing. Here is the kicker though, only 5% of your daily thoughts are new ones. So if you’ve ever felt like your life is on repeat and as if you’re stuck in a continuous loop, it is because you are. Your thoughts and the stories that run through your mind are the same 95% of the day.
How does this link to success though? Most of us look to the goals we have set out for ourselves and compared to an ideal of what you wanted. This almost always leads to disappointment because you notice that you fell short of your goal.
For example, when I started working with Joanne, she just promoted into a new executive role within a new company. She was stressed about delivering results, frustrated by a new team who didn’t appear to work together and lost within a new company culture.
“When you lean into gratitude, you stimulate the pleasure center of your mind. And your mind will want to experience more of this.”
She was so focused on everything that she was missing in her results, role and abilities that she was becoming ineffective and resorted to micromanaging and working 50+ hours just to keep up.
What Joanne forgot and what we’ve all been guilty of at one time or another is that we keep comparing to an ideal that we hold in our mind. For Joanne, she needed to first step back to celebrate the progress that she had made. If a year ago, you would have told Joanne, she would be in her first executive role, growing a new team within a fastmoving tech company, she would have been elated. This would have been a dream for her.
Taking a step back allowed her to express gratitude for the goals she had achieved, the journey she was still on and how far that she had come. It also gave her space, to clearly see how the actions she was taking were leading to worse results, by choosing gratitude she tapped into the confidence which had made her successful in previous roles – being a strategic thinker, a confident action taker and inspiring leader.
When you lean into gratitude, you stimulate the pleasure center of your mind. And your mind will want to
experience more of this. However, when you focus on the 80% of negative thoughts and everything that you miss –you stimulate the pain center of your mind. The pain center – which millions of years ago ensured our survival, now leads to you doing everything you can to avoid pain. So you work more, you micromanage more, your frustration and stress grows, leading you into a vicious spiral downwards.
Gratitude allows your brain to experience pleasure – which also leads to you reducing your stress and exponentially increases feel good feelings, allowing you to also make better, more focused decisions.
And best part is you can train your brain. Remember 5% of thoughts each day are new, so make sure that they are positive ones. Look for three things each day to be grateful for. In the beginning, this will be a conscious effort, and you may need to start simply with being grateful you’re breathing, you’re awake. Keep it is simple.
And as you train your brain to find 3 things each day to be grateful for, your brain will also be primed to keep looking for more things. Each time you do this practise,
Gratitude allows your brain to experience pleasure – which also leads to you reducing your stress and exponentially increases feel good feelings, allowing you to also make better, more focused decisions.
you are making new connections in your brain, sort of like a road. At the moment, you may have a 6-lane superhighway that takes you down the negativity, stress spiral in your brain, because this is how you have always responded to any situation. Each day when you look for 3 things to be grateful for, you keep strengthening that connection path in your brain. So when you start this practise, it will be a dirt track, and you will need to make a conscious effort not to race down that 6-lane negative super highway. Over time, the gratitude dirt track because a superhighway of its own and you will
do it automatically. To super-charge this, write it out each day, so you can reflect back on the days when the negative superhighway has a stronger pull.
Being grateful allows you to take a different perspective and celebrate the progress that you have made, and this will keep you motivated because you ARE making progress.
So if you’re looking to fast-track your success, begin creating your own gratitude superhighway by being grateful for 3 new things each day.

Finding the Courage
and Sharing her Story
BY SYLVIA SUNSTRUMIt was recently National Hereditary Cancer week. As a BRCA Previvor I believe that knowledge is power.
A Previvor refers to an individual who carries a strong predisposition to cancer but has not developed cancer. These individuals proactively sought out knowledge to determine if they inherited gene mutation by having genetic testing performed. The results of this testing subsequently allow them to make informed medical decisions to reduce their cancer risk.
Knowing about an inherited mutation gives you power to take steps that may help reduce your risk for cancer, or detect cancer at an earlier and more treatable stage. Breast and ovarian cancer risk can be greatly reduced through increased monitoring, preventative drug treatment or preventative surgery.
My name is Sylvia and in October 2013 I found out that I carried the BRCA gene mutation which meant I had an 85% risk of developing breast cancer and a 67% chance of developing ovarian cancer in my lifetime.
I decided at that time that I would have a prophylactic oophorectomy to remove my fallopian tubes and ovaries. I thought it best at the time to continue getting mammograms and screenings for my breasts.
I aim to inspire others by sharing my journey and encouraging other to do the same. There wasn’t a lot
of information out there when I was going through this procedure. It was very overwhelming and lonely at times.
As I dealt with the physical and emotional effects of surgery, I was introduced to a side effect known as surgical menopause. I realized that there were not a lot of women sharing their menopause stories and I saw a need to seek out other women and connect, share tips and stories and offer advice to one another on how to navigate this phase of our lives.
ABOUT SYLVIA
Sylvia is motivational speaker and wellness influencer. A breast cancer survivor who inspires and educates midlife women to take control of their health through her Instagram account.
Due to an elective surgery 8 years ago she found herself in menopause. Once she found out that she was going through this transition of Menopause and Midlife, Sylvia started to do her own research and incorporated practices and products to help live a more vibrant and holistic life. Now shattering stereotypes associated with aging and sharing her journey along the way.

LIVING IN BALANCE
Creating a work & life balance plan.
Work-life balance seems to be an elusive unicorn that may or may not exist. Technology and working from home make us accessible around the clock. How do we separate work hours from family hours when they so easily intermingle?
Balance has a different meaning to each person. One day the balance leans in more to work, and other days are more family focused. Not everyday can or will be a 50/50 even split or look the same as the day before.
Here are some tips to help you get started to define the balance that is right for you.
FOCUS + CHANGE THE STRUCTURE OF YOUR LIFE
Falling into a rut can make us feel like we are our habits, and there is no changing them. Focus on the activities and tasks you enjoy and find passion in, and delegate the rest.
Look into your family. Are your kids reaching an age where they can take on more household chores. When you let go of something, it gives them an opportunity to grow and learn. This win-win situation allows them to open their eyes to a new skill and frees up your time to spend time on a higher priority task.
The same concept applies at work. Review your processes and see what can be delegated. We all have THAT thought that it takes longer to explain the process or that no one can do it the way we do. This limiting belief distracts us from what really needs our focus, rather than wasting time on tasks that don’t require our hands-on attention.
Changing the structure in how you typically go through your day can be the most freeing part of this plan.
FLEXIBILITY IN PERFECTIONISM
When we are younger, and our list of responsibilities is a lot smaller, it’s easy to devote time to perfect our hobby or live up to the demand of our sports team or after-school job. As we grow up and life gets more complicated from work to family, our list of responsibilities gets longer and more complex.
Perfectionism in everything at this level becomes unrealistic and can be destructive. Practice makes perfect is the old saying. Move to adapt to practice makes permanent to keep in check with the balance to build healthy habits.

Japanese COLD BREW
BY STONE CITY ROASTERS
Anyone else drinking excess amounts of cold Drinks these days?
If so, you need to try this pour-over Japanese Cold brew recipe!
These are the amounts and because we are melting the ice the amount of ice needed to be weighed out.
• 330 grams of ice
• 630 grams of hot water
• 60 grams of auto-drip ground coffee, grind on 16 on Baratza. It’s a finer grind than a usual pour-over.
If you use a paper filter, make sure to make it wet just as you do for hot. If you are using a metal filter one less step!
Get your water boiling. I weighed my water before boiling it. You lose a little volume during the boiling. Bring water temp to 200°-205°.
Put your filter in your pour-over, wet it, remove extra water, gently take it out, put your ice in your Chemex, then put the filter back in.
Take your grounds and put them in a Chemex filter. Take your boiled water and pour it over your grounds. Stop for the bloom at about 30-45 seconds. Wait about 1 minute.
Now resume pouring until your water is gone. If you preweighed your water.
Now you throw away the filter and pour coffee into a cup filled with ice. And enjoy!! This can be enjoyed black or add some milk and cream for a delicious, iced coffee!
But please taste it black before you add the milk because it’s just that delicious! It’s a bright cup of Java that must be experienced black.
Oh yum, indeed!

She had a passion for art at a very young age. Now as an adult everything came into place. In 2015 Kathleen decided with her husband to open a gallery in Souris. Word spread like wildfire as Kathleen was already
established as an art teacher, hosting classes from her basement studio. It was clear a larger space was needed and the Lagasse’s purchased a large space in the heart of Souris.
Kathleen has been showing her works of art at trade shows and craft fairs for many years, but she really wanted a more permanent space to show and sell her work, as well as build a community of local creators to share their passion and work.
This decision was the best they ever made – wedding and kids aside. Since 2016, the gallery took on a life of its own. Lagasse’s Studio of Fine Art now has now close to 180 members and with Kathleen expanding her teachings and workshops, with thousands of people coming from all over. Also travelling to many communities to teach, as far as Portage la Prairie, Gladstone, Deloraine, Waskada, Milita, Killarney, Cartwright, Mather, Wawanesa, Clear Lake , Brandon, and so many more.
In 2016 Kathleen was Nominated “WOMAN OF DISTINCTION” in Brandon, “what an honour to be amongst such wonderful, beautiful ladies”.
The Gallery Members are from all over Manitoba, anywhere from Gillam, Flin Flon, Minnedosa, Swan Lake, Swan River, Brandon, Winnipeg, Selkirk, Portage, Elgin, (and many more) and of course Souris
The Studio boasts a variety of locally made products from which you will find pottery, soaps, wood carvings, designer clothing, jewellery and of course wall art. You name it, they have it. If they don’t, it can be customized just for you.
Kathleen makes it a rule that she meets all her artists often as they are all eager to bring in something new they had just created. She is always passionate and on the look out for new and exciting creations so that every time a customer comes in, it’s like a brand-new experience. Regular visit are a must!

Design is the soul of your home
Let’s be real. Everyone wants to live in the houses they are inspired by on the internet, TV and in magazineswho wouldn’t!
The reality is, the design process to create those spaces can be overwhelming and takes a lot of time, effort and expertise! From the planning process, the detailed decisions that need to be made, timelines that need to be met, to the troubleshooting that needs to be done during construction... it’s all just a lot!
That’s where we come in and do what we do best by guiding and educating our clients through the process.
Our names are Robyn and Emily and we are the co-founders of re:Design Studio. We met over a decade ago and have been design school classmates, best buds and since 2018, business partners!
We love working together and have found that we do our best work when we collaborate! We challenge, and often push each other out of our comfort zones, but have the most fun while we do it!
We felt it was time to think differently about design. We wanted to create an environment that was comfortable and approachable for our clients to come and discuss their design visions. Our interior design studio creates uniqueto-you spaces for custom and curated living and working environments. We love to collaborate with our clients and work with them to design their absolute dream space. Our design process ensures that no two projects are ever alike!
We offer our clients a range of services that are tailored to suit their project. Whether you need help curating the look you already love or need us to develop a custom design just for you from scratch, we help to simplify the design experience from start to finish!
We truly believe that design is never a one size fits all, which is why we created 5 service options.
Our services range from a quick virtual meeting to hash out a problem, 5 hours of design time with one of the designers, creating a 3D concept that you can take and execute on your own timeline, full service interior design and designing a custom home from the ground up. That’s right folks, we do more than just pick paint and decor, though if that’s what you need, we can help with that too!
So, you’re ready to start a project? What’s the next step?
First things first, get in touch with us! We start every project with a virtual meet-and-greet consultation for us to get to know you and your project. This also gives you a chance to meet us! We think we are pretty great to work with, but believe that it has to be a mutual feeling for the project to be successful!
After the consult, we put a custom estimate together to review with you and if all looks good, we schedule a start date! To learn more about our process, check out our website! We look forward to connecting with you!
The Art of Collecting Art
Building a Meaningful Art Collection
BY WOODLANDS GALLERY“Art is for everyone! All you need to start an art collection is an appreciation for art, a willingness to learn, and a budget.”
A collector’s journey can be just as invigorating as the enjoyment of the artwork itself. The motivation and purpose for collecting art can be different for everyone, whether it’s supporting a local artist, making a statement, or decorating your space, the reasons are endless. The first step in building a meaningful art collection is finding a piece that speaks to you.
3 Points to Consider When Collecting Art
1. WHAT KINDS OF ART DO YOU LIKE?
Sometimes it’s love at first sight; a piece captures your full attention, and you can’t walk away! Art can be unpredictable, compelling, and mysterious, reaching out at the most unexpected times. Ask questions to learn about what and who you’re investing in and trust your gut!
Ask yourself what you are drawn to:
• Representational or abstract styles
• Bold & vibrant or soft & calming palettes
• Conceptual or decorative works
The more you explore, the more you’ll understand what kinds of art resonate with you and why. While factors like
L-R HOLLANDE BEZAN, GALLERIST; JENNIFER DELURY, GALLERY DIRECTORcolour, size, shape, and budget can inform your final decision, your emotional reaction to a piece, or lack thereof, can help determine what’s right for you.
2. WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO COLLECT?
Whether you are collecting artwork for investment or looking to beautify your space, identifying common threads among pieces you like can help guide you in creating a cohesive collection that tells a story.
Are you interested in supporting emerging artists and watching them grow or investing in established artists with widespread recognition? Maybe it’s the artist’s story or their process, that draws you in. Perhaps you collect small mementos from your travels or special pieces that commemorate milestones. Some collectors pursue works that celebrate culture or make a political statement, others have a passion for polar bears or prefer the colour pink.
“Art is a means of self-expression for you the collector, as well as the artist, and it can bring joy and fulfillment to your life.”
3.WHAT DOES ART COST?
The cost of artwork can vary considerably as it is determined by a range of factors, including if the artist
is emerging or established, their reputation and record of sales, as well as the size, medium, and style.
It’s good to have a budget in mind when starting your collection. Big or small, it’s possible to start a collection with almost any budget. Look to experienced gallerists and consultants to help identify artists that fall within your budget and fit your lifestyle.

Get fired up
Cool weather and cozy fireplaces are some of fall’s simplest pleasures. If you are thinking of adding a fireplace into your new home build or updating your current fireplace, here are some design ideas to spark your inspiration.
WARM TONES
If you are leaning to a dark fireplace, balance the look with warm tones and softer colors. Surround the fireplace with warm wood tones in the wall and floors for a stylish look with a cozy feel.
SEEING DOUBLE
Stay warm and love the look of your fireplace in two rooms with a two-way display. Providing a focal point in more than one room, this is a creative design concept to connect your spaces. Deliver a fireside experience you can walk around and add architectural interest to multiples rooms.
THINK BIG
Take your fireplace from the floor to the ceiling for maximum impact, one that will surely turn heads. Add depth to your fireplace by adding in brick withing the mantle.
Add textures to enhance your fireplace with brick, stone or wood designs. Using them will allow the fireplace to the focal point, even if it’s not at the centre of the room.

I am extremely passionate with what I do. For me this is just not a job. I enjoy every little bit of it. Each and individual arrangement, piece or bouquet is created with a
considerable amount of detail. I craft them according to bride’s request, and work until the final piece is the “perfect one”. I make sure that all decors that leaves the shop, rented or purchased were checked thoroughly for quality. Every piece is checked before handing them out to the bride making sure it’s perfect.

Business as Usual – or is it?
BY SYNDI PROKOPICHAfter the last 2+ years of the pandemic, we’ve all learnt that Travel is a Privilege, not a right. There were repercussions from the “over-travel” that occurred prior to the shutdown. And then came the realization, it needed to look different.
This past year so far, has been turbulent for consumers, with inflation and fuel prices jacking up airline tickets and the cost of doing business.
The lack of trained personnel coming back to the industry was/is a global issue, and car rental shortages. Despite the rise, people were itching to get outta the house, even if it meant paying more. Revenge or Reconnection Travel is a “thing”.
Predictions have now been adjusted for travel to reach pre-pandemic levels by 2023, rather than beyond as previously thought. The hospitality, tourism and travel trade couldn’t be happier, but it’s certainly come with its issues, slowly being ironed out. With the challenges, comes the new trends.
PEOPLE ARE SPENDING MORE ON TRAVEL
Travellers are ready to G.O.A.T. Translation? Take the Greatest of All Trips. With 2 years of nowhere to spend their money (except on house renos), they’re ready to “go big” on their next trip. Multi-generational trips are growing, as a way for families to reunite and reconnect. Even more so, grandparents are taking their grandchildren on epic trips – why wait to enjoy the inheritance after their gone?!
SLOW AND GROW
Vacationers are staying longer in destination and going more often. Train travel has grown leaps and bounds. They’re not in a rush to get anywhere soon, it’s all about
the journey. People want deeper, more meaningful connections with their destinations.
Remote workers (or working from the beach) are more common than ever before and the travel industry is catering to them. It’s 5 o’clock somewhere!
CUSTOMER SERVICE IS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT
People are willing to pay more for better service, more comfort, and perks. They’ve earned it, they’re ready to be delighted. And you need to deliver. They want someone who’s got the skills to navigate their way through the new and everchanging world of travel. Luxury means something different to everyone – but at the end of the day, it all comes down to thoughtful service.
SUSTAINABLE AND ECO-TRAVEL
Travellers are looking for more adventure/outdoor experiences; custom-designed, out-of-the-box.
No matter where you travel in the world, people want their travel dollars to be returned directly to the
communities they visit; being transformed by the people, its culture; leaving it better after they go; safeguarding cultural and natural heritage, protecting the environment, while contributing to the social and economic impact for the host community.
INDIGENOUS EXPERIENCES
Keith Henry, President and CEO, Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada recently said ‘Indigenous Tourism is Reconciliation in Action’ – and you can be a part of it.
True of any country you visit – whether it’s Canada, the US, Australia, New Zealand, or Thailand – they’ve their own unique and authentic culture and history to share with you – and you’re asking for it.
You want to hear their stories passed down orally from generations ago, walk their ancestral paths, taste the food they ate, sing the songs they sang, and even travel down the rivers they canoed.
You want all of your senses to be engaged: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch.
LOCAL EXPERIENCES
Outdoors is in! At a recent Tourism Conference, they said this about Canadians:
• ‘Canada is open like no other country: open spaces, open minds, open arms and open hearts.’
• RV sales surged in 2021/22 and once empty campgrounds, were now packed. Getting away and (kinda) not being near other people felt safe.
• Many are choosing to stay closer to home, with more
direct flights, road trips and less hassles.
• We’ve learnt more about our own provinces and country then ever before!
• And we’re actually pretty cool …
LAST MINUTE AND SPONTANEOUS BOOKINGS
With no one knowing what’s around the next corner, whether it be COVID variants, travel restrictions, changing work and school schedules, not everyone could plan – so they opted to go when an opportunity arose.
That’s exactly how our sun vacation happened in February 2022 – between variants!
Simply put, a Professional Travel Advisor should give you four things – the travel experience itself; value for your travel investment; service; and confidence you’ve come to the right place.

As a Senior Travel Advisor, CTC, taking my clients closer to the Pleasure of Travel and further away from the Pain of Planning, is my ultimate goal. Travel enriches our lives on three levels – dreaming about it, experiencing it, and reliving the memories created. F.U.N. is a must!

The importance of Volunteering
Organizations and charities rely on volunteers as most are non-profit and only partially government funded. All too often, they solely depend on teams of volunteers to help them do their work.
Volunteering connects you with others and gets you in touch with your community. Getting to know other people who share common interests and passions can grow into long term friendships.
If you are shy or hesitant towards new experiences, volunteering can boost your self-confidence further by taking you out of your comfort zone. It helps you feel better about yourself, which you can take back to your ‘regular’ routine, hopefully creating a positive view of your life and goals.
Whatever your age or life story, volunteering can give your life a new and meaningful direction, or a positive boost where you are now in your life.
If you are considering volunteering, ask yourself these questions to find the right path for you.
1. What are you passionate about? This means that you will most likely enjoy the work and stay committed.
2. Are you looking for a long-term opportunity, or a one-time commitment?
3. What skill set do you offer and what do you hope to gain from volunteering?
Most of all, have fun! Volunteering is meaningful, the benefits are clear – and it’s important that you enjoy it too!
“Volunteering offers important help to worthwhile causes, people in need and the community.”
QUESTIONS FOR YOUR NEW ADVISOR
BY JAMES RODGERS, CFP NEW OUTLOOK WEALTHIf you are looking for a new financial advisor then you should be prepared to ask some questions. When meeting with a potential advisor, or even your current advisor, remember you are interviewing them and you will ultimately decide to hire that advisor. This is your finances, you need to be confident you can trust them, but also know that you can ask questions and challenge their advice if it does not seem reasonable to you. It is a relationship that needs to be built and maintained like any other so to get started on the right foot try these questions.
QUESTION 1.
What are your qualifications?
The answer to this could be varied but you are looking for a designation like CFP, CLU, CFA.
Also consider the licenses they hold, MFDA and IIROC licenses are investment licenses. The MFDA is for mutual funds where as IIROC licensed can provide a much broader line of investments which still includes mutual funds.
An insurance license is useful as there are many types of personal insurance and insurance strategies that can advance your financial wellbeing.
A designation or license does not define what they do so consider question 3 as well.
QUESTION 2.
What is your experience?
Experience is a great teacher so the advisors time in the field is important.
An advisor with no qualification could be a great advisor if they have loads of experience. It is just difficult to measure their knowledge that comes from experience.
QUESTION 3.
What services do you provide?
This can get complicated as an advisor can do many things and could call them by different names. Some
the common ones
QUESTION 4.
What is your ideal client?
Every advisor has an idea of what an ideal client is. You want to be valuable to the advisor so that you get their full attention.
QUESTION 5.
How do you get paid?
Never open with this question. The advisor needs to assess if you would be a good client for them just as much as you need to determine if they are a good match for you. The question of costs should be brought up by the advisor somewhere near the end of your first meeting. This indicates that they want to move forward and have an idea of what they will charge. However, if
this information has not been provided you should ask before signing any paperwork.
Finally, there are many other questions that can be asked depending on your personal needs and the offering from the advisor. These five questions should give you an idea of who you are working with and weather you are a good match. Remember this is a relationship that needs to be built on trust, communication, and positive outcomes. Start building your relationship with these simple questions will help you establish that relationship.
