urich, missouri city vision spring 2011
COLLABORATION WITH THE CITY OF URICH, MISSOURI, AS WELL AS A TEAM OF 5.
Current view of historic Main Street
Social Heart The four-block area at the south end of Main Street should be developed as the social heart of Urich. The town needs a place for the local residents to gather and feel comfortable. They need a place that accommodates their social and commercial needs rather than those typical of a town visitor. This space should also be one that the residents are proud of. One of the most important ways of achieving this is to revitalize the historic downtown area with the expansion of these buildings. Sidewalks, streetscaping and parking should also be added to accommodate the functionality of these businesses. The south-east corner of this quad should be specifically devoted to community activities. With the placement of a community center as well as a city park, this area can be closely connected to the downtown while still providing for the local residents. The back-side of the remaining blocks should remain residentIal, but more houses should be added to the existing ones to create a more dense area close to the downtown. To accommodate the increase in parking, parking lots should be added behind the commercial buildings with access points provided throughout. These access points can also be used as social meeting spaces with the addition of benches and landscaping.
d be placed on either side ccomodate shoppers as re it is allowed, groups er types of similar seating create informal gathering lot access points are an paces. ocation for a social ould be beneath the rea would offer seating shoppers to take a ay, but it would also community by providing gate and socialize.
Master Plan The comprehensive vision expressed in ou master plan shows how we each worked on THE PLAN ENCOMPASSED THE AREAS OF REGIONAL PARTNERSHIPS, HIGHWAY PRESENCE, HOUSING OPTIONS, PARKS & TRAILS, AND PLANS FOR THE TWO MAIN AREAS OF THE CITY. specific portions of the city and developed strategies that could exist in a cohesive ima Plan showing connections between housing, commercial and community spaces
