In order to turn the site into a vibrant community space again and to recreate the sense of community ownership, the design vision was based on the local community’s assets and inspirations. To make this space more community-oriented, and to reflect the identity of Tripoli, hidden talents like the arts that need to be exposed and small Abandoned crafts that are disappearing were incorporated in the design program. In addition, an analysis of how people are using public spaces followed, to see what kind of activities can be incorporated in the site. Ghost on the Road: an alternative approach to mapping Montreal’s Ghost Bike memorials José Alavez, Mira Baba & Anja Novković (all first authors) Introduction:
Rationale:
• To memoralize the deceased • To raise awareness of and mobilize against bicycle-related deaths.
Theoretical Framework:
• Narrative mapping (Caquard, 2013) • Mapping the intangible nature of place (Ryden, 1993; Knowles et al, 2015) • Post-representational cartography (Kitchin & Dodge, 2007)
Map Development
On August 22nd, 2016, Justine St-Amour was hit and killed by a truck as she waited to cross the street on her bike. She was 24. Justine is just one of eight people in Montreal whose lives have been commemorated with “Ghost Bike” memorials. The Montreal Gazette Newspaper has shown the locations of their deaths with a classic grid map and location markers. Yet, the intricacies of their lives--and deaths--are left to the imagination. We believe that a cartographic representation can do the deceased more justice by incorporating emotional-affective information that not only brings them to life in space, but serves as a tool to prevent further bicycle-related deaths.

Despite the humble form of the bus shelter, it is put in a valuable position in relation to the collabrative complex forms; it tries to emphasize more collabrative potentials of public transport spaces.
