ABOUT THE COVER Photography by JOHN DAVID MIRANDA

Model JUAN MIGUEL VICENTE VILLOCILLO JR. Vehemence is a new publication catered for the youth. The new media-users, the late night projectmakers, the ecstatic social mediawriters, the millennials. As a comedic tribute to the nature and behavior of how we act with our electronic devices and printed media, we have come up with the portrait of a teen juggling all our sources of entertainment while in the rain. Quite the unusual sight to see, yes, it is. As technology and media as a whole grows and becomes a necessity to more parts of our human lifestyles, we tend to fixate on many types of sources. Mobile phones, laptops, magazines, books, even the smallest hints of hearing the next hit song makes our spirits lift up to anticipate the next great thing. Although, while

exploring the magnificent world of media, we then face real life as an accessory to these sources. The use of media becomes a distraction as it is used incorrectly, in times where it is not necessary. This doesn’t signify media as being a nuisance to knowing what the truth or the world’s most controversial topics are. It’s just that we, hilariously, are sucked into the world of the digital, the print, the broadcast, without even knowing what is truly happening around us. These somewhat “distractions”, as being a growing part of how we develop as human beings, are as young as we are, and will continue to provide breakthroughs in more fields of information and media. We are an audience, growing and learning, like the technology around us.

EDITOR’S NOTE

As globalization rises, so does the enhancement of everyday technology and media. The way of modernization is of different platforms that seem to be one click or swipe away with our finger. The vast and speedy processes of this tend to blind us on how to properly see or use the innovation that has been shown to us today. We are students who wish to create a connection to being literate citizens of the media. We show passion, interests and eye-opening realities that media is a form of life and responsibility. Not only for information had we tend to use media as comfort of entertainment and culture, but as a diverse pool of thoughts and opinions. We serve media as a critical resource of the mass majority of need of the public. Our staff and editors soar high to entertain and inform those young citizens of media to create a stand to the eye-opening realities hey have created with media. Come forth and enjoy; sit back and relax, as well as dive into the multi-cultured magazine that is VEHEMENCE. Editor-In-Chief MARY SUNDAY SANTOS

YOUR SOCIAL LIFE, YOUR SAFETY

FEATURE: GUIDES—05

Article by CHARLIE TOMAS & NATSUKI MORI

The ever-so-loved platform of social media is a place where you can learn, do marketing, shopping, or have relevant conversations. It’s also a place where you can share memes, post fake news, and a great place to let your emotions flow out. Social media is a very subjective place and a subjective word and of course people in social media have different opinions. Through experience, we have noticed most of the problems of people using their own social media accounts. Being bullied on multiple platforms, specifically in the comment threads where comments get bashed and opinions get ignored. It causes trauma, it gives out the feeling of social media being a place of toxicity and danger.

How we avoid these incidents is through the practice of these steps.

The most important thing to do before going on social media is to be cautious about what you reveal about yourself. Your personal life is your own and if there are things you don’t want others to know about, don’t share it on social media. Websites will always have options to pick which content goes out to the public and which is just shared with among your closest friends. Understand the privacy settings because most social media sites have very effective privacy settings yet most of the users don’t understand or never even bothered to check and read the privacy settings. That long line of text that usually reads “PRIVACY & TERMS OF USE”? It may not be advisable to read it from top to bottom, but it’s always there for a reason: to keep you assured of the rules and your safety online.

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM CATFISHING Article by AUSTIN PACIFICO LOPEZ DE LEON

FEATURE: GUIDES—07

The internet, as we know it, is a vast online global village full of interesting people and content where you could have interactions. Although we should be careful on who we interact with because someone’s identity could always be questionable when everyone’s literally behind a computer screen doing their thing. Knowing this, one could fabricate their existence in to something that can be used to take advantage of you or make a complete and utter fool out of you. Such internet phenomena is called “Catfishing” which was derived from a famous MTV series of the same name. Being catfished is dangerous if you don’t research well enough and could pose a threat to your dignity and overall wellbeing because it possibly creates malicious intent and confusion.

Without further ado, here are a few easy steps that you can take to prevent being catfished. 1. Do research on the person Check the information about the person and do your research to confirm if their profiles are fake. Usually, a quick google search confirms if they’re using stock information (i.e. Profile pictures, Biographies). Usually, these people will also have very few friends on Facebook and have no tags and is usually a dead giveaway that someone’s fake.

2. Never give too much personal information It’s not safe to give important information such as your address and phone number, never do this regardless of the situation.

3. Listen to your guts If you’re feeling any discomfort, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Don’t let someone who you met online charm their way in to your personal space.

4. Video chat or meet in person If they’re always finding a way to avoid these, they’re usually catfishing.

TWITTER AND THE GUIDANCE OFFICE

Article by JANNU VERONA

What not to tweet on the social bird nest The social site Twitter is often known as a ‘rant place’, a haven for your deepest thoughts. But the thing is, Twitter is still social media. You are not invisible when you are in any social media website. You might be using a different name or a different profile picture, but people could still know it is you. So, we are here to tell you what no to do on Twitter.

First is, don’t ever act like nobody can see your tweets. Thousands of people could possibly see your tweets. Yes, there is a “private” account option but your followers could still see your tweets.

FEATURE: GUIDES—09

“So, what if they could see my tweets?”

Well, this is where our second point comes in.

Don’t tweet anything that could offend someone. Always know if your tweet could be offensive. A lot of people get in trouble just because they don’t know if what they tweet about was offensive or not. Sometimes you might think it’s funny, but it could offend someone. You might think it’s cool, but it could possibly ruin something or a whole group of people. If you are not sure about your tweet being offensive or not, it is best not to posit it at all.

Lastly, don’t be self-centered. Yes, your opinion matters but you should always consider the reactions of the people who might see you tweets. Your rants, posts, as well as jokes, they could possibly affect people’s lives. We are entitled to our own opinions but always remember that people are not always with you. This might sound cliché, but always think before you click. So, the next time you have the urge to rant and tweet something, always remember that you are not invisible and be careful with what you tweet, it could save you a trip to the guidance office.

THE JOYS OF WEIGHING YOUR PRIORITIES

Article by FRANCIS OLORES

Balancing dreadful school works and equally enticing media “You become what you study.” Whether it be on social media, print media or any other media that you may encounter in your daily life, these information that are sent through these mediums are what is creating a person throughout his/her lifetime. Creating balance in life creates a macro-effect in your condition as a human being by handling different agendas at a time. Most students have experienced cramming and procrastinating at least two or more times in their school years. Even I have those kinds of times when you just want to take a moment to relax then look at your mobile phone and forget about school works and the next day you just remember that certain assignment and start panicking so you go ahead to do it with such less time and effort. In those situations, you will have to balance the time in all that you’re doing and as a student, studying takes priority and as well as gathering information through media. Studying for a few minutes then organizing materials for school will help you lessen the work and stress. Balancing school works and keeping up with the society through different forms of media is simply misunderstood by some students because most students have a hard time coping with the events that occur in both real life and school that they won’t remember and just try to forget everything through social media apps. If you have your sights on your future career, you’ll be having no problem over the hardships you are about to face.

THREE SMART WAYS TO AVOID FAKE NEWS

Article by KYLE DUMBRIQUE

News, nowadays, is very accessible to anyone and anywhere As time goes by, the widespread of fake news is increasing especially here in the Philippines and many of the youth are being victims of these both online and offline. Only a few people know how to identify real from fake news and here are some tips so that all of us can identify which is the information we can trust and believe in.

First, is to know the author. It may seem unimportant, but it is wise to know where certain information comes from and if it is truly from a reliable person or source. Knowing who the author is has a huge impact on identifying whether news is real or fake, knowing their credibility and former works are also important.

Second, is to know the site or publishing company of where the news is being publicized. In almost every official organization affiliated with producing news, there is an office that facilitates and checks certain articles before they get publicized. How they make sure that the site or publishing company is reliable and true to their word of news tells a lot about how a particular article is correct and with no sugarcoating.

Third, is checking other news press or sites. Being contented to only one publisher, broadcaster, or any other news provider is a big NO. We should always check if the information found in a certain site or organization match those in other reliable sources to identify if the news is real or fake. Always do research on what publications to follow and people to trust.

HALLYU BASHING 101

FEATURE: NATURE OF THE INTERNET—15

Article by JOHN CHRISTOPHER LANGCAUON

Bashing is the act of hating, shaming, or criticizing in a derogatory manner —and it has been a global trend in the media, specifically the social media. How popular or big a community in the media is, it also tends to have a certain amount of bashers. A community like Korean Pop Culture (K-Pop) and its media is a prime example of a community that tends to have bashers inside and outside of its fan base. Bashers of K-Pop can be classified into two types, one is the people who aren’t interested in K-Pop or simply dislike the genre as a whole. These people other than hating on its music also tend to judge K-Pop idols or Koreans in general, that these idols are just pure “plastic” or full of plastic surgery and other than K-Pop and its idols, bashers also tend to judge people who like K-Pop, calling them to have no taste in music or having no respect on their opinions about it. The second type of bashers in K-Pop, are the people who are into K-Pop but have criticism mainly on its idols or groups. A prime example would be fan wars or fighting of a K-Pop group’s fandom to another. This mostly occurs because of the competitiveness of fans on becoming the best fandom to their group and instead of just supporting the group itself, they instead bash or blatantly hate on groups that are on par with the group they’re supporting. There are more examples like fans criticizing groups lip syncing, body-shaming of fans to idols, and arguable scandals of idols.

Bashing may not be avoidable in a community, especially in a community like K-Pop but these bashers must also try to understand the hardship and sacrifices these people make just to satisfy their local and international audiences. Bashing doesn’t just hurt a person’s feelings but it also can force them to have physical changes that can also cause mental problems to a person.

THE NATURE OF A FILIPINO ONLINE GAMER

F***!

Article by CHRISTIAN PAUL DURIA & JED TRISTAN TINIO Online gaming is very popular in the Philippines and not only is it for past time and entertainment, but the general audience has now considered it as a form of competitive sport.

Filipinos play games very competitively. —that’s why sometimes a large part of the audience resort to trash talking to express their feelings and release their anger. Toxicity and abusive behavior are already pretty rife in online game communities. In Philippines “trash talking” is included to the nature of Filipino gamers. In fact, we were the trash talk capital of the world, are you proud as a Filipino gamer?

#-!

#?!

The toxicity of every single player affects the emotion of other players. And you’ll encounter harsh and boastful words in public areas. Filipinos have different kinds of “how to become toxic”. If someone of your ally commits mistake, someone will “away from keyboard” or known as AFK, or someone will deliberately do feeding to the enemy team. Sometimes a player just goes full tilt because he didn’t get mid, saying “v0v0 mid, ako sana mid” or he got mid and fed the enemy lane, saying “v0v0 jungler ala gank” or he did well in mid but doesn’t have a highest KDA, saying “Ks lord tong mga kampi ko amp”. And they might harass you but not just in your bad game but they can attack you personally. Like “mama mo panot” or “hindi ka na mahal ng magulang mo”. So here are some few tips to be a “good” player.

1. Don’t blame. If someone commits a mistake don’t blame him/her and just focus on the game.

2. Mute chat when necessary. Every online games has its option to mute chat, or mute all players chat so that you can use this in order to avoid “toxic” words from other players.

3. The last one is to be a good sport. Don’t let your emotions control you. Every words you say can affect other players.

Enjoy the game and have fun!

I ACCEPT REACTS FOR MY IDENTITY Article by MARY SUNDAY SANTOS

“A person reacted on your profile picture.” “A person commented on your post.”

FEATURE: NATURE OF THE INTERNET—21

Like, Heart, Haha, Wow, Sad and Angry reacts. An essential state of one person to get their daily dose of attention and acceptance from the mass public that we all know is social media. With this, we are mere citizens from this internet society. As technology nowadays progress, so does the everyday life of one person to another. One cannot deny that we are more welcomed to the new world of technology and social media than the current reality we live in. People often see reality as something dull and social media as a form of haven that they can be themselves. Or can they?

Without you knowing, you’re slowly being consumed and changed by this modern society in social media. These gradual changes start as something small like affecting your likes and dislikes to creating a whole new identity that will serve a purpose and acceptance to the new world. Not everyone is proud of who they really are. So in progress, they try to change their identity from the feedback given to them from the new society. The more reacts you gain from the slightest change you make about yourself, the more you become that person. But is it really okay to change who you are?

The likes and reacts you gain from media are just numerals that don’t really define you. It’ll give you happiness and pride since you’re appreciated, but it’s better to just be you. The greatest happiness you can achieve is realizing and accepting your true identity. Show the world that reactions are merely reactions.

Do not accept reactions for your identity.

A FADING MEDIUM Article by JEFFREY ANGELO EBANEN

Books have been around since the 15th century —they provide us with a lot of entertainment and information. They have been used throughout the years to create ideas and explore different cultures. A lot of books give us life lessons that may help us in our everyday lives. It also gives us a sense of sentimental value because once you open a book and you like the story, you get attached to the book and you feel like you’re one of its characters. To elaborate my point, let me tell you about my first experience reading a book. I was only 10 years old when I first held a book I liked, a book that was not required by the school. I found it at my school’s annual book fair, the title of the book was “Percy Jackson: Battle of the Labyrinth”. I finished the book and realized that this would not be the last time I read a book. I was able to go to different places without spending a single cent, I explored Ancient Greece and New York, I felt the emotions of the characters because I was captivated by the book. Reading a book taught me life lessons like fight for something you like to do and live life to the fullest.

But nowadays you don’t see a lot of people reading books anymore. They’re either playing with their gadgets or scrolling through their social media feeds. That is why I urge you to go to a bookstore and grab the first book you get interested in. It’s good to try something new once in a while. Step out of your comfort zone and explore new things. There are different kinds of books you can choose from. It could be a romance, sci-fi or even mystery story that would slowly captivate your thirst for new learnings.

MUSIC IS REALITY’S EYE-OPENER Article by MARIAH ROCITA MIRARZA

Bands—Our Life. In our generation today, people are really fond of the music scene. Music being known as one of the different types of modern media could really be of use for people to be able to voice out their thoughts. And as an artist, it is not only their job to entertain and make art. Instead, they could also use their own talents to be the voice of different issues in our society and in order to raise awareness. In the Philippines, there are bands that discusses our life through relating it to different issues in our society and using their music as the medium. Some of these bands are:

1. Eraserheads With their song Spolarium that was also performed by Imago was said to be about the Pepsi Paloma case circa 1985.

2. Dicta License This band is actually different from other bands for they discuss different social issues through their music. One example is “Alay Sa Mga Nagkamalay Noong Dekada Nobenta”.

3. December Avenue December Ave straight to the point discusses our feelings and emotions and continues to inspire us through their music. One of their music, Eroplanong Papel, was said to be about having hope in times of hardships and unwanted circumstances in our lives. Music is not only a lifestyle. It is a journey to find realities and messages that will open the eyes and soul from people around listening to each band. Music will always be in the hearts of many, so will the mind of the people who seek the truth in reality. Images from Out of Town Blog, Dicta License Facebook, Myx

RULES OF SURVIVAL AND THE RULING OUT OF ADDICTION Article by JUAN MIGUEL VICENTE VILLOCILLO, JR.

“Tango! Tango!” “8x! 8x!8x!” “Men ayun ayun ayun!” Those are just the common phrases that you hear whenever it’s lunch time and your pals are on their phones, shouting and laughing at each other while forming a circle, or whenever you enter a computer shop and see a bunch of strangers gathered around a stall or two and carefully watching the player trying to survive and remain the only one alive in that island. The thrill and excitement can be felt by everyone involved in the gameplay, whether it may be the player on the hot-seat, or even just your annoying friend who keeps on bugging and staring at your screen. All these scenarios are the cause of the new trending m obile video game, Rules of Survival.

lunch to this very fun and addicting game but due to this hype and addictive game; I have encountered reports of a certain player who playing the game at almost every chance he gets. From, just walking down the stairs to even walking home, he also spends a lot of his own money on buying his character clothes, even going as far as not eating lunch at all just to buy the latest limited-edition jacket for his avatar. I asked him why he spends so much time and money on ROS; and he replied with: “Wala lang, masaya lang kasi tapos ang angas pa tignan at ang lupet lang talaga.” This just goes to show how addicting the game is to a person. Due to the adrenaline and the thrill of them playing the game, that is all they think about.

Rules of Survival or ROS, developed by NetEase Games is one of the famous iterations of the “Battle Royale” genre, wherein players up to 120 must defeat one another to become the last man standing. You may team up with friends in a duo or squad team mode (with five members max) to be number one. Due to the hype and media’s influence, it has unsurprisingly garnered attention here in the Philippines.

I myself have tried to play this game, and honestly, I can see why a lot of Filipinos are hooked on it. I felt the rush, the excitement, the blood rising to my brain as I am in a constant state of panic and vigilance as I watch out for the enemies. As fun as it may be, always remember that there is always a limit that must be set when the game is being played, as it can cause distraction with your everyday life.

Filipinos of course always like to try out new things, and since games with violence and guns are no stranger for us Pinoys (Counter Strike and CrossFire), it has instantly become a normal sight for teenagers to play alongside each other almost everyday during

I hope that one day, players can realize that a game is still different from reality and addictive gaming can destroy a life; but who knows? Maybe all of us are just inside another video game?

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: MOVIE REVIEW Article by KYLE DUMBRIQUE & JUAN MIGUEL VICENTE VILLOCILLO, JR. Ant-man and the wasp is the sequel to Ant-man starring Paul Rudd, Scott Lang or Ant-man, and Evangeline Lily, Hope Van Dyne or Wasp. The movie was released to Philippine cinema on July 4, 2018, three years after Ant-Man was released, two years after Captain America: Civil War was released, and at least three months after the release of Avengers: Infinity War. The movie took place after the events on Captain America: Civil War wherein Scott Lang was under house arrest for helping Captain America and violating the Sokovia Accords. Days before Lang could finish his two years’ house arrest, Hank Pym and Hope Van Dyne needed his help to bring back the original wasp, Janet Van Dyne causing him to take a risk of finishing his punishment. Aside from this plot, old and new characters was shown in the movie for us to love and hate at the same time. The cinematography of the film and its score was also great, and it added impact and intensity to the movie. Punchlines used in

the movie was good also, although some may seem a bit corny. The movie was great but it’s a little bit off comparing to other MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) movies that was recently released. Additionally, this movie has shown why Ant-man was not in the Avengers: Infinity War. The sequel to the 2015 Marvel film can be put in the category of having a sequel that is better than its predecessor. The film is funnier (kudos to Paul Rudd and Michael Pena for having the best jokes and scenes of the movie.) It also tackles more about the importance of our family in our life and how they represent everything to a person. Of course, the movie still has a lot of action packed scene that can make you sit on the edge of your chair (or recliner if you are watching in a deluxe movie house.) Being a Marvel movie that is a key movie in the next films, it obviously has hidden Easter eggs and references that once watched,

you will know how THAT scene is connected to THAT other scene from THAT other movie. Also, be reminded that you guys should still stick around for the after credits scene to get that bonus scenes. (Really guys? We are in the tenth year of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Come on people!) Overall, we’d give this movie a 9 out of 10 as it is nice to have something that isn’t sad or depressing or sitting over the edge of your chair as you think which Marvel character, Avenger or not, dies next. So be sure to catch AntMan and The Wasp in your local cinemas now!

FASHION AS AN ART Article by RIZZI JOY PARDIÑAS

The choice of clothing of a person can almost fully describe who they are. The appreciation of the art of fashion is something that keeps on growing day by day, and people are willing to go try out new trends and show them off to share and connect with others. Fashion is how we express ourselves through clothing, hair, make-up and accessories. In this generation, most of the people are being defined by how they express themselves through their clothes. How they combine colors and what not, for example, gothic fashion is known to be dark and mysterious

and they are worn by the “Goth” subculture. The artsy aesthetic is then contradicting to this group, joining pastel colors and light hues. Along with floral accents and mesmerizing layers, every group can easily be identified using their fashion sense. A certain group grows throughout society, shares similarities with other categories and shapes itself to become more than what it was before. May it be influenced by pop culture, or formal dresses, the uniqueness of each group tells an entire catalogue of

stories and its enticing history. Take for example, the street apparel category. A collection of clothing that is simple and minimalist can always merge together with the graffiti-stained, ecstatic attitude of skate culture. Shoes, bottoms, tops, altogether make for great possibilities. Individuals can also have their own fashion/signature look which all depends on how they are comfortable and confident with the clothes they wear. By combining bright or dark colors, short or long dresses, and any known accessory you can think of, you will be known and be proud of showing this form of art.

Fashion is an expression. It is a living art that is expressed daily. Show the world that it is a canvas, and you and your clothes are the color that will create art.

You are your own masterpiece.

EXCELLENCY: SOREN GAMING REPRESENT VEHEMENCE

Article by MARY SUNDAY SANTOS

Excellence is a word defined in many categories that life has in stored.

The concept of excellence for students is achieving outstanding marks and feedback from performances. Another is excellence in the definition of a gamer: showing skills and tactics in order to achieve victory and the recognition you acquire during and after a game.

VOLUME ARTICLE: AT THE PINNACLE OF MODERN MEDIA—37

These two sides have been long evaluated as very different from one another. This has been a long term debate that often leads to either giving up the passion of gaming or ruining the chance of finishing school. Although, one dedicated student made us realize that gaming and academics can be of both equal responsibility when you know how to manage wisely. Here are the minutes of an interview with Jed Tristan “Soren” Tinio, an average student of Asia Pacific College proves that academics can always coincide with gaming.

There are other factors that are leading and pushing me in order to finish my studies such as my parents and the ideal successful future that I really want to obtain. Not to brag, but I’m also known as a ‘math whiz.’

I: Though you’re a skillful gamer, how long have you been gaming? Soren: I did gaming way back when I was still in the 3rd grade. Though, I mostly played with warcraft III (DOTA), Crossfire, NBA2K and such. To be honest, I tend to directly head for the shop once class is over during my days of Grade 4 until grade 6. This also happened on weekends until high school and even ‘til now.

I: Can you give us some idea of who you use during your games? Soren: Sure! Well, the only idea I can give you is that my favorite champion in League of Legends is Katarina. I do Mobile legends to where I usually use tanks.

I: Is it easy for you to maintain both gaming and academic in your everyday life? Soren: Well, I can’t change the circumstances that I’m in grade 12. There are more responsibility and requirements. But I make sure to get a daily dose of 1 hour gaming everyday just to relieve stress or maintain ranks.

I: I see. But do you believe that gaming is a distraction to academics? Soren: In my honest opinion, I don’t believe that. It all depends on the person on how to manage and be responsible. I see gaming as a form to relieve stress, a fun hobby and mostly a passion. But it’s my dream to be able to walk on stage with a diploma in my hand. So, why can’t I have both right?

I: Do you have any message or tips for those who doubt their ability to manage both of these? Soren: Yes. Just always remember that you are in control. You are responsible and you should set your priorities straight. There should always be balance and management in your everyday life. You can do it!

SECULAR AGE Poem by MARY SUNDAY SANTOS

I was a damned soul on the edge of insanity Nothing can make me feel anymore–even death itself I’ve done a lot during my time The heavenly taste of agony filled the corrupted soul As reality wrapped my existence around the throat I couldn’t breathe in this life at all I stay awake as the clock continues ticking Only to find out demons actually existed They grow stronger as time progresses I was once a happy kid Who thought that life was all glee But then reality took an early flee I bid farewell to the life I once lived You never really know what life can do to you I grew up only to knew things that are unsettling I pray to God to just end my daily suffering As I wait for the final cue Realizing that this is all pointless in the secular age I took my own actions in according to plan To the God and people I once knew on life’s stage See you as the curtains fall on grand Death is upon the lost souls

EYES Poem by John David Miranda

What beauty resides in the screens The colors magnificent in their own way Layers fading away, blurrier than the greens The music resonates, nothing more to say He seeks an unorthodox liking Driving into the depths of despair and hatred To create something as elegant as writing As made with thought, his work, now dated The article of meticulous design Complex through words, develops through time Simple in its exposure, blander than his own mind Yet it destroys limits, and creates the new line Sometimes he wished that he could rest With something as great as this, he must detest It would be another peremptory test To try and produce with all his best

BEFORE TALE OF MEDIA Poem by CHRISTIAN PAUL DURIA

There used to be a saying that goes “Think before you speak” I believe that was lost It’s now “Think before you click” I used to carry and read books in school But now with just one phone or device, I can have it all However, beware and be careful Not all you see on media is truthful Let us be mindful of what we do Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and what have you All these are media platforms that could chew Ready to steal your identity through and through

THE INVOCATION Short Story by FRANCIS OLORES

At a small village, there was a boy named Sandy. He was an ordinary boy but with magical powers who loved to play with his friends near a church. So, every time he plays with them, he always remembers to pray to their gods and goddesses and Sandy’s favorite god is Seuz “God of Thunder and God of Gods” and Seuz’s rival is Mars “God of War”. He always prays for good health, more friends, and peace on earth. But on that same day they saw something circular falling from the sky not very far away. Sandy and his friends were curious and went to the very location the circular object fell. He observed that this circular object had lots of unknown figure, so he took a closer look and he saw a huge and muscular man that is wounded so they tried their best to carry him to the nearest place where the man could stay since it was night time. They found a small shed which is near the village and placed the man there and went home.

The next day, they came back to the shed and saw that the man is no longer there. Sandy told his friends to go look everywhere in the village. So, they split up and Sandy went to where they usually play at and as he went to the church, he saw him gazing at the altar of the gods. Sandy talked to him and said, “Mr. who are you? and what’s your story?” The man pointed at the name Mars “God of War”. Sandy was frozen as he didn’t know what to react and do. Afterwards, they tried to teach him the basics on how to write and speak their language. Mars then wrote to them that there is a war happening in space against the gods, a war happening between good and evil. Mars explains that Seuz has betrayed the gods by helping the titans extinguish humanity. After a few moments, the sky turned dark then the circular objects larger than the one Mars used came to the planet. The war between humanity and gods against the titans began.

THE SLAVES OF TOMORROW Poem by AUSTIN PACIFICO LOPEZ DE LEON

A time existed where all colors were not fake, where all colors were bright, vibrant, and full of excitement, The outside world as we know it, is elegant as it is beautiful. Yet, media was not a factor. So why do we prefer a world of digitalized uncertainty? Effort, passion, love, all of this conquered the hardships and crumminess of the elegant world. Letters of love flying about, written by the infatuated scribes in hope of a zephyr of ardency. Friends having fun in a round table of connections, sharing moments of happiness and misery Yet, instant messaging wasn’t needed. So why do we prefer textual imagery of the real thing? The beautiful nymphs and suave fellows of tomorrow have fallen so short, haven’t they? Using fraudulent means of beautification, to bane their own beauty for attention and love. It’s the likes, shares, and reactions that matter as we continously lie and create facades of ourselves. Yet, back then, we never cared about our appearance for the satisfaction of all. So why do we prefer fooling ourselves? I open my phone and scroll through the thousands of apatheticness and absurdity I see, I beg to wonder. Is this really a life worth living? A life of judging and being judged, a life of trolling and being trolled. Yet, we carry on as if these were our daily lives. So why do we prefer being so ignorant and blind? We are the slaves of tomorrow, as we continue to the modern age, deprived of an elegant world. An elegant world with no fake glamours and snowflakes, an elegant world of nothing but a manifold of truth. The wild use of media has enslaved us throughout the years of it’s very existence. Yet, we show no signs of stopping. Slaves of tomorrow, what has happened to our world?
