Anorexia Treatment: Understanding The Options

Anorexia isn’t just being too skinny, it’s a serious health threat ▪ According to medical experts, anorexia is the deadliest psychiatric disorder, carrying a six-fold increase in risk of death, quadruple the risk major depression causes. ▪ The disorder is particularly deadly to young people, making them 18 times more likely to die than healthy people their age. ▪ Unfortunately, this disorder is often overlooked or unnoticed until it’s too late, and treatment is often difficult. A whole mind, whole body approach to treating anorexia is essential to reducing patients risk of death and allowing them to enjoy happier, healthier lives.

Anorexia is an eating disorder affecting hundreds of thousands ▪ Estimates vary, but about 10 million women and a million men in the U.S. are facing a significant struggle with anorexia or bulimia.

▪ Anorexia is characterized by extreme food restriction, distorted body image and an irrational fear of gaining weight. Anorexia is also typically accompanied by other mental health problems. It may not be the only problem patients are facing, however…

Comprehensive treatment is the best way to get control over anorexia and build a healthier life. People suffering from anorexia often face a number of other mental health challenges as well. At Mirasol Recovery Centers, we believe merely focusing on the anorexia without treating the other issues is a strategy doomed to failure.
