• Color Theory is the study and practice of principles to undersatnd the relationships between colors. • Light is the essence of color. Light and colors together ilumine a space to guide the focal point and attention, and set the mood of expression of the interior. • Color is the result of light reflected off the surface of objects into the eye. The color of an object occurs fromvarying degrees of absoption of light energy. White colored object are absent of color and they reflect all colored light. • Additive color is when primary light colors such as red, green, and blue are mixed. • Subtractive color applies to paint, dyes, colorants, and inks, wher blue, red, and yellow are identified as the primary colors. • Hue is the propertie of light by which color of an object is classified as red, blue, green, or yellow in reference to the visible spectrum. • Value is the lightness or darkness of a color. • Chroma is the purity of a color, completely absent of any white, gray, or black. • We can change colors in three ways: through tint, tones, and shades. Adding gray to colors produce a tint. The mixture of black and white produces a tone, and adding black to a color produces a shade. • Chromatic refers to all colors except black, white, and gray. • Achromatic refers to white, blank , and gray. • Primary hues are red, blue, and yellow. • Secondary are violet, green, and orange. • Complementary colors are two opposite one another. • Analogous are two or more colors adjacent to each other. • Split Complementary is composed of three colors, which is one of the main hue plus two adjacent. • Monochromatic is the variation of one hue. • Triad colors are composed of three colors equaly spaced among each other. • Tetriat refers to four colors equaly spaces.

BARRAGAN CASA STUDIO MEXICO CITY

• Luis Barragan (1902-1988) was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. • His professional training was in engineering and his architectural skills were self-taught. • In the 1920s, he traveled extensively to France and Spain. • He also visited Morroco that stimulated his interest in native architecture from Africa and Mediterranean area. • Known as one of Mexican greatest architects, Barragan revolutionized the modern architecture. • Barragan accepted the Pritzker Prize in 1980. Upon his death in 1988, Casa Barragan became a museum. The house became one of UNESCO World Heritage sites in 2004.

Barragan used warm vibrant colors and natural light to create unique colored spaces. His work is notable for its use of traditional materials, rich spaces, broad planar forms and his strong influence in Mexican architecture. The use of bright colors and materials such as wood, cantera(volcanic rock) and stucco on the walls make the sense of Barragan’s technique to transit to one space into the other. The structure of the house is made of concrete.

INTERIORS In the Living area Barragan used monochromatic colors that includes yellow, green and browns. The open space with a large window alow the light enter to room creating a relantionship between interior and exterior area.

The exteriors are a combination of four complementary colors such as orange, pink, blue and green. Barragan combined natural elements achieving an interaction betwen nature and design.

FLOOR PLAN - ELEVATIONS

CONCLUSION

Barragan’s house and studio is recognized as an icon of modern architecture. The use of strong non-harmonic color scheme by Barragan is reflected in each room giving the sensation of warmth and comfort. I lived in Mexico four years and I had the opportunity to visit the house studio and to know the Barragan’s work such as Satelite’s Tower, Capilla de las Capuchinas, and Fuente de los Amantes at Pedregal Mexico City.

AMELIE Film Analisys M-4

SUMMARY

Amelie is a young French woman with a life devoid of close friends and romance. She sees a mysterious man in the train station and after finding something he has left behind, she goes on a journey to find him and essencially herself, while helping many along the way. Amelie describes the story about a girl whose childhood was suppressed by her father’s mistaken concerns of a heart defect. This defect causes hardship for Amelie to get in real life contact with people , which leads to the creation of her own fantastical world and dreams of love and beauty. Jean-Pierre Jeunet used contrast to set moods during the film. The main color palette prominent is green, which is used to describe the story that Amelie lives. Pierre Jeunet used complementary colors, which are saturized to convey the sense of surrealism with reds and greens.

SCENE ANALYSIS

On the begining of the film Amelie who is the main character, is introduced with her childhood. This takes places in Paris, her hometown. In theses scenes, the city is presented through colored filters that create a golden tone and monochrome look making it part of Amelie’s surreal and dreamy world. In fact, in these scenes a split-complementary color scheme of yellow and red hues are contrasted with blue.

In these scenes we can see the use of complementary colors. The green reflects balance, harmony, and hope, red symbolizes passionate love, yellow reinforces the feels, and finally brown means stability and support. Amelie always wear something red that represent her childhood.

BALANCE Balance is the relationship of different hues to one another when each is perceived to be equal in perceived visual weight. Balance is an important part of the design process because without balance, the remaining principles and elements get lost and the lack of cohesion in the finished design results. Contrast is opposition in order to show or emphasize differences between two objets.

COLOR-YOUR CAMARA

In this blog we had the opportunity to be in contact with the color nature and discover how the it provides colors and patterns creating a perfect connection with the space.

RHYTHM

• Rhythm is movement and it is a natiral evolutionary trait in nature that can be transferred to the interior spaces and can be further emphasized with color. • There are five types of rhythm: repetition, alternation, progression,, continuation, and radiation. The purpose of rhythm is to provide an opportunity to move the viewer through the space. • Repetition: Is the systematic orderly succession of identical design elements. • Alternation: It occurs when two design elements are repeated in sequence similar to repetition. • Progression: It Involves the repetitionof similar elements with a continuous change. • Continuation: Refers to the placementof one or more colors troughout an interior to create a continuos movement trough the space. • Radiation: It uses a concentric color arrangement instead of objects to unify design elements and create visual movement.

EMPHASIS Retail Analysis

CONTENTS • CONTRAST OF HUE • CONTRAST OF VALUE • CONTRAST OF DESIGN FEATURE • CONTRAST OF TEXTURE • FOCAL POINT

CONTRAST OF HUE

The use of two opposite colors that are opposite one another on the color wheel.

CONTRAST OF VALUE It is the relative lightness and darkness of color. Contrast an dvalue separates objects in space, while gradation of value sugest mass and contour of surface.

CONTRAST OF DESIGN FEATURE

It is the contrast in design and colors. Emphasis can be established as hierarchy of information when the information is presented in alternative styles.

CONTRAST OF TEXTURE

The bright facade, enhanced by the reflection of particular transparent panels, develops behind the large glass window which defines and emphasizes the building’s architecture.

FOCAL POINT

It is used to emphasize an especific space. We can accentuate any element in a design such as shape, position, size, color, value, direction, and even texture.

COLOR - PROPORTION - SCALE

• Proportion is defined as the size relationships between elements and scale refers to the size of a shape in relationto a given known. • Color palette s can contain from one to five colors. • The proportion of color will be relative to other design elements and should be scaled to fit interior spaces. • Scale is concerned with the relative size of space.

RENDERING

The freshness and contemporary combination of this color palette can work easily. The purpose of this palette is to create a bright, relaxing, and a pleasant room. I chose a light gray for alls and an accent dark gray with yellow accents throug the space. In fact, I added a rug with tones in gray to give the sense of contrast with the furniture. This color palette is a great combination for modern design.

This assignment has been a great exercise in order to get experience on how to manipulate the use of colors. Selecting a a correct color palette is an important step to be able to convey the space purpose. Keeping in mind the color harmony and design principles we can achieve our purpose. Working with the rule of 60-30-10, the light gray shade is the dominant color, the secondary color is the dark gray and the accent is yellow. This color palette is the combination of analogous and monochromatic color harmony. It is very hard to recognize and play with colors in a specific palette, also to make a color selection is difficult.

HOSPITALITY

The lines runs trough out the ceiling creating the perception of larger space. In fact, the use of cool colors with horizontal lines increase the sensation of a space being restful and calm.

COLOR and SHAPE

In this space, color combines with shape. This combination is given through the repetition of ceiling’s shapes.

COLOR and TEXTURE

Using these texturesgives the environment a natural look the designer wanted to capture. In this image the designer combined wood ceiling, and also used different texture for furniture to create a natural environment.
