BLUE IN THE MOUNTAIN Munnar! Breathtakingly beautiful, it is an idyllic haven of peace and tranquility. Set at an altitude of 6000 ft in Idukki district, Munnar was the favored summer resort of erstwhile British rulers in the colonial era. Vast expanses of tea plantations, pristine valleys and mountains with sparkling waterfalls, stretch to the horizon. Exotic species of flora and fauna populate its wild sanctuaries and forests aroma of spice scented cool air - yes! Munnar has all these and more. About 32 sq. km core habitat of the endangered Neelakurinji plant is preserved in Kurinjimala Sanctuary in Kottakamboor and Vattavada villages in Devikulam Taluk. These flowers have become symbols of the bio-diversity of the Western Ghats and an indicator of the health of the eco system. The flowering season ranges between August and November with a peak period of late September and October. Besides spectacular mist clad scenic beauty, Munnar offers lovers of the outdoors a choice of trekking routes, birding areas and picnic spots.

MONSOON REVIVAL WITH AYURVEDA At Kayaloram Heritage Lake Resort, there’s a kind of hush in the air – expectant and ominous. The once whispering river has begun to rumble softly. The magical monsoon is on its way as pregnant rain clouds gather on the horizon. It’s that time of year when we offer our guests comprehensive ayurveda packages to pamper and rejuvenate the body and soul. This period is considered the best season for ayurveda rejuvenation programmes as the atmosphere remains dust-free and moist, which in turn opens up the body pores, making them more receptive to therapeutic herbal oils and massages. Additionally, the herbs and medicinal plants that form the vital ingredients of an Ayurveda massage, grow in plenty during the rains. Come, revive and rejuvenate, this monsoon the rain is not a reason to stay in. The most popular of our monsoon package is Panchakarma that offers five different procedures used in Ayurveda to purify the body. This is done in two ways: by pacifying the aggravated ‘doshas’ using appropriate diet, natural herbs and minerals, and eliminating the increased doshas from the body. There are regional variations in therapeutic procedures as well as in the equipment used. One school of thought believes that the five actions are Nasya (nasal therapy), Vamana (emesis or vomiting), Virechana (purging) and two kinds of Vasti (therapeutic enema), Nirooha Vasti and Sneha Vasti. Herbal decoctions are used for Nirooha Vasti and herbal oils for Sneha Vasti. This five major procedures in Panchakarma, is meant to purify the whole body by eliminating the accumulated toxins from it. Another school, that of the ancient surgeon Sushruta, which regards Rakta (blood) also as a dosha (humour), the vitiation of which can cause diseases, and advocates Raktamokshana (bloodletting). Guests may also make use of our slimming, stress management and beauty care packages. Kayaloram also offers abbreviated packages besides the conventional one-to three-week-long treatment protocols.
