Mt. Mitsuishi Hiking and Camping
NEW NEW TRIP
PHYSICALLY CHALLENGING
In October, autumn starts higher up in the mountains and works its way down to sea level. Camping at that time has great benefits like cooler weather, fewer insects and less crowding in popular locations. • Includes: Transportation, certified Japanese mountain guide, backpack, head light, trekking pole, sleeping bag and pad, tent, single burner stove and cooking set • Moderately challenging activity • There is a mandatory pre-trip briefing for this activity on Oct. 7 at ODR at 5 p.m.
Japan100 Famous Mountains Mt. Iwate Backpacking Overnight Hike
PHYSICALLY CHALLENGING
Mt. Iwate, also known as ‘Nambu Fuji’ by locals, is the highest peak in Iwate prefecture and one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains. Iwate-san overflows with a feeling of openness, and when clouds are settled in the valley floor it appears to be floating in nature. • Includes: Transportation, certified Japanese mountain guide, backpack, head light, trekking poles and mountain hut usage fee • Moderately challenging activity • There is a mandatory pre-trip briefing for this activity on Oct. 14 at ODR at 5 p.m.
Nanataki Falls Hike & Onsen
Enjoy a moderate hike of 4 kilometers (round trip) on a gentle incline to the scenic Nanataki Waterfall on the northern approach to Mt Iwate. After the hike you’ll have a chance to soak in one of Iwate Prefecture’s most popular natural hot springs with beautiful outdoor grotto pools as well as indoor facilities. This hike is one of our favorites which is why we offer it often; you should try to do it each season we go. • Includes: Transportation, mountain guide and onsen fee. Backpacks, trekking poles, and snowshoes are available for use during this trip for no additional fee if needed.
Family Fall Colors Hike
October in the Tohoku region is like no other in Japan (in our biased opinion)! The fall colors are unbelievable and fair temperatures are welcome after the summer heat. We have two family hikes that are low on miles and big on smiles! Child carriers are welcomed if you can handle a mild three kilometer course. Be sure to bundle up as the mountains are likely to be much cooler than Misawa City. Layers are the way to go. • Includes: Transportation and hiking guide • Mildly challenging activity, beginners or families are welcome
Mt. Kabutomyoujin Hike and Morioka-city Hotel Stay
NEW TRIP
PHYSICALLY CHALLENGING
The hike from the foot of Mt. Kabutomyoujin to its summit is a challenge, but the real test is one of courage rather than physicality, and it comes at the very end as you scramble to the sharp, small peak. Once you have experienced the mountain we will take you down for a night in Morioka for a different kind of experience. • Includes: Transportation, certified Japanese mountain guide, backpack, trekking poles and hotel • Moderately challenging activity • There is a mandatory pre-trip briefing for this activity on Oct. 21 at ODR at 5 p.m.
