CONCEPT PLANNING PROBLEM STATEMENT This current home hosts a large family of seven. It is an existing older home with a layout that is no longer conducive to their increased needs for space, privacy, and living areas. They are looking to renovate the entire existing structure to meet all of their needs interiorly, with these restrictions in place: - No additions or extensions of the existing structure. - Garage must remain as-is. - Basic footprint of the home must remain as-is.
CONCEPT STATEMENT An open floor plan will be implemented throughout the existing structure to add space/light, increasing the feel of volume. A modern/contemporary design will be the underlying theme used to update the home, while adding eclectic pieces as accents to maintain a family feel. Flexibility/storage will be used in furniture pieces that will also double as statement pieces. Rather than walls to separate the spaces, we will use furniture placements that can be easily moved around to provide for social and private situations. A slightly warm/neutral color palette will allow for significant color accents to be used and changed continually. To maximize the feel of the space, long clean lines will be used for flooring, while added textures, patterns, and accents will be used to provide emphasis to the scale. Proportional pieces will be implemented, bringing balance and harmony to the flow of the entire space. We will maximize natural light, utilize energy saving fixtures/ lighting, while maintaining durability and economical principles as much as possible.

BUILDING INTERIOR SPECS
Elie Tahari, Ltd. is a globally recognized luxury designer brand of clothing and accessories for men and women looking for a modern and chic, yet stylishly utilitarian office space for their next corporate office. To maintain the original philosophy of committing oneself to working hard at a job they love, the staff needs several unique and creative open plan concepts combined with moveable furniture, walls, and dividers that allow for flexibility in terms of space management, privacy vs. public meetings, acoustical values, yet promote an overall teamwork environment. Trending patterns/colors that work with the upscale designer’s existing sophisticated theme should be combined with modern accents/details throughout the spaces. In designing the space, proper energy-saving lighting will be installed as well as sustainable resources when possible. Elie Tahari, Ltd. is looking for a design that is not only stylish/upscale, but also modern in terms of design, color, and office concept planning.

INTB402/422 - Senior Studio I & II Students select a subject based on their individual career aspirations and develop a project of a substantial scope. Emphasis is on real-world needs that could be better met through more responsible interior design and architecture. Content includes problem identification, analysis of user needs, observation and information gathering. Ultimately a design program and schematic solution are prepared that will be further developed into a complete design solution in Senior Studio II for an interior environment that will better support the psychological and physiological health, safety and welfare of the public. In this culminating studio course, students continue the development of a viable solution for the project initiated in Senior Sutdio I. Skills from the entire program are leveraged into a final portfolio project motivated by environmentally sound, cost-effective ,and responsible design practices.

Concept Development
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT PROBLEM STATEMENT Client is a well known chain of business hotels around the globe that is building a new headline hotel for their flagship brand. They have plotted a piece of land in Chicago, IL just outside of the main city, near the convention centers and high-end shopping center. The estimated square footage for the building footprint is around 8,700 SF. We have been hired to address these specific areas: - Lobby Welcome Area - Bar/Cafe Area - Typical Hotel Room - ADA Compliant Hotel Room - Bathroom - Retail/Gift Shop Area - Manager’s Office
CONCEPT STATEMENT The goal is to create a memorable and relaxing experience for business travelers to have during their down time after meetings and long shifts. Innovation will be introduced in forms of high-end technology, hidden charging ports and plug-ins throughout all spaces. Luxury is not a necessity, however, to create the feel of an upscale facility, the budget will allow for advanced lighting and acousitcal values, color branding will be implemented consistently, and furniture choices will be unique and modern. We also strive to create designs that support the Green Design methodology, and this hotel will reflect our philosophy and attempt to gain as many LEED points as possible. Existing plumbing and light systems can only be changed on an entire floor, so for floors one and two, we will be able to work energysaving aspects into our design. Any shared spaces, however, will present a challenge in obtaining these points.
