Project Brief

1. Adaptive Reuse

Timeless BY

The Watson Esplanade Hotel was built in the 1860’s and has the distinction of being the first building in India to be made entirely out of cast iron components that were shipped to Bombay from London. As one of the First hotels in Bombay, this building was the landmark and has been the location of many grand events, filled with guests from all over the world and hosted many dances in its grand ballrooms. but today, it lies in utter despair and is a poor shadow of its grand past, crumbling and slowly falling apart. however, it is now time for a revival. This project calls for the adaptive reuse and revival of the Watson hotel building to accommodate the expansion of the NGMA, which is opening an annexe within the Watson hotel building. this annexe space will provide a platform for struggling artists and photographers to display their artwork at very minimal rents and help promote local art and artist. the annexe will also house an office for the local chapter of INTACH. There will also be a backpacker’s hostel on the first floor of the hotel but the students have to design office/reception area for the same on the ground floor. the annexe space will also accommodate a small cafeteria for the visiter at the art gallery to come and relax and read within the now to be renovated Watson’s Hotel.

Concept As this old structure is trying to speak through its small details and trying to stand out in the vicinity also through its exterior appearance it portraits what this hotel has gone through all this time working in such old structure with such good background why not have a concept related to the structure itself so the concept for this project is TIMELINE OF WATSON HOTEL. The main reason to choose timeline of Watson hotel is while going through the design of Jewish museum in Berlin by Daniel Libeskind where he tried to exhibit the social, cultural and political history of Jews in Germany through his design he tried to create space in such a way that there suffering and journey all throughout this time becomes a spatial experience for the visitors. In the same way, the concept of timeline of Watson hotel mainly deals about peoples reaction towards this structure and struggle to run this hotel during its hard time all this gets concept divided into four different zones which gives visitor of the gallery a spatial experience to remember and helps to design the functional layout in ground floor of the Watson hotel itself here the four zones are NOVELTY, CENTER OF ATTRACTION, STRUGGLE, RAY OF HOPE. which give a spatial experience to visitors as per the concept time line of Watson hotel.

3.Restaurant design

A leading Hospitality Company is preparing to launch a new restaurant in the highly charged restaurant and hospitality business. the site is located in a mall and is spread over two floors with around 45005000 sq.ft. of an area. The restauranteur would like to have a high-end dining restaurant with a theme that the interior designer deems fit; the cuisine will be designed accordingly. The restaurant will also have a small retail component, which shall promote the baked goods prepared in the restaurant itself.

Concept The french hook is a French cuisine high dine restaurant. where they serve French seafood along with a complementing wine, as this restaurant is going serve french seafood the concept is to give diners an experience of French architecture by involving tinted glass and French Gothic arches in interiors and as per the menu space will also have an essence of the sea. it’s going to be a visual french treat before the real for the diners.

Research with ADI for Making Design Visible Palm beach Road:

Research with ADI for Making Design Visible Installation

Our installation is a very abstract representation of our final elements as the jogging track is covering the sedwoods lake whenever we see our reflection in water it’s not clear its distorted in the same way whenever anyone walks by this wall it gives a pixelated shadow rather than normal one. as our parking tile is one of our element which is in grey and whites the shadow cast on the white wall give two different Colour. Materials used in installation: 5MM MDF, gateway sheet. we used Joinery Halving joint to make the structure.
