GRID THE NEW ARTWORK BY
MISKAT QINAN
GRID is something that has emerged from a fascination. Being a resident in a world such as Second Life, creating as literal as possible a second life there, made me wonder how our emotions interact with technology. Personal experiences and stories around me seem to contradict. People get extremely hurt and find eternal luck, yet ‘it is all a game’, as others claim. We plug in a virtual world, but do we plug out the real one? With a place like Poetik it seems logic to create a piece that matches the atmosphere and architecture. I have chosen the sky as my domain. A place where you wouldn’t look at first. With using my own virtual body in poses that makes the limbs seem to reach out and expressions showing a wide range of emotions it brings a chaotic atmosphere. Yet, when you look for a while, you see the bodies emerging from and vanishing in the sky. With movement chaos is created but the limbs also reach out to each other. Connections are made, a grid of emotions gets formed, only to be destroyed within seconds again.
POETIK is the project of Nur Moo. Located within Second Life (region Poetik Velvets) it is a post-industrial build created by Hern Worsley. This build is the decor for the work of various artists active within SL. Every 3 months the works will change. Artists are asked to contribute and get full freedom on what to create and where. Nur has a strong focus on artistic freedom. The region is not sponsored or is benefited by others in any way. In this way they can guarantee the art to be of the highest level found within SL. June 2009 is the first time the region will change. POETIK will be closed for 2 days while the new artists install their work and June 14 it will be revealed with a launch event.
