TH E B A RN “ T he B ar n” was conce ived f rom the task to der ive the best strateg y for thi s randomly g iven nar row and deep plot . It max imi ses the potential of the plot in one combined volume. While it looks like one ordinar y hou se f rom the f ront; blending into the site, it sec retly stretches into the plot. The volume i s then sliced e venly div iding them into a s er ies of modules. It con si st s of an 8 unit row hou se as it proves to be the most effective t y pe for thi s plot . It i s ser ialit y w ithout pure repetition by introducing diag onal shear wall s ar ticulating it self throug h the depth of the plot . From the f loor plan , it f unctions like a machine w ith a r ig id lo g ic, but in the section it interestingly di splay s the characters of each unit . Featured spaces are plug ged on to the volume to create address , or ientation and an indiv idual sy mbol for each unit . “ T he B ar n ” i s bold and f it s strongly onto the site w ith lit tle elements of sur pr i se.
