On behalf of the City Council and the City of Abilene, it is my privilege to welcome you to our city and to the 2018 USTA Texas Slam Tournament. We are excited to have been chosen as the host city for this prestigious event and hope to continue hosting for years to come. Abilene has always been known as a tennis community and the privilege of hosting future tennis stars in our own backyard brings the entire community much pride. These extraordinary athletes are stars in their high school athletic programs and some will be embarking on university and professional tennis careers. This is exciting and the honor is not lost on any of us. It is our pleasure to serve all 2,300 of you and I am confident that you will be warmly welcomed with our southern hospitality. We hope your schedules allow you time to experience a little bit of Abilene and the opportunity to get to know our warm and friendly citizens! You have the opportunity to see some of the best high school rodeo athletes in the state while in Abilene as the Texas High School Rodeo Association hosts their State Finals June 7-16 at the Taylor County Expo Center. And any time you have available you don’t want to miss our award winning attractions like the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature, The Abilene Zoo or our one of a kind storytelling museum, Frontier Texas!, where stories from the last 150 year are told through holograms and the wild west truly comes to life. It is my hope that these days of top quality tennis will bring out the best in each and every player, because hosting you has certainly brought out the best of us. Welcome to Abilene!

Player Party Awards Ceremony – Rose Park Tennis Center Sunday (8:15pm - if inclement weather, will be in Rose Park Senior Center)

The ceremony will begin with a welcome from the mayor followed by the presentation of the following awards: John McFarlin Award- Established by John R. McFarlin of San Antonio in 1965, this

award is presented to the outstanding junior boy in Texas who exemplifies outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, civic responsibility, character and a good tennis ranking due to superior tournament play.

*Fan Gear will be at Rose Park, McMurry, HSU, and ACU Sunday-Wednesday

Registration/Information - Rose Park Tennis Center Saturday (10am-6pm) Sunday (9am – 8pm) Monday (9am-6pm) Tuesday-Thursday (10AM-2PM, Abilene info desk only/no registration available) Racquet stringing available at Rose Park Athletic trainers provided by EXOS Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine available at Rose Park and Abilene Christian University (1am-11am, 1pm-5pm)

Player Party – Rose Park Tennis Center Sunday (7pm-9pm - if inclement weather, will be in Rose Park Senior Center) Activities include a DJ, raffle, mini-tennis, photo booth, giant Jenga, 9 square in the Air, beach ball, Win it in a Minute, and a magician. All players will receive a ticket for a free meal at one of the three food trucks. Available menus for players: Atom’s Italian Ice – 6-8 flavors of Italian ice; Chocolate and Vanilla Soft Serve; Grilled Pizza Panini; Small Side Salad with choice of dressing The Savory Side – Cookies & Ice Cream Sandwiches; Chickster (Grilled Green Chili Chicken Sandwhich with honey mustard); Grilled Chicken Salad (spring mix); Loaded Baked Potato Rollin Retro- Elvis Taco (smoked pulled pork with Chipotle lime slaw); Buddy Holly Taco (jalepeno cream cheese chicken with mango salsa); Vegetarian option (Chipotle Lime Slaw Taco) Classic Sliders – BBQ Chicken Slider (pulled Rotisserie Chicken); BBQ Pulled Pork Slider; Hamburger/Cheeseburger; Southwestern Slider; Texarkana Cheeseburger; Mushroom+Swiss Slider; Hot dog; Grilled Cheese; French Fries *Full menus available at all three trucks for spectator/coach meal purchase.

Mary Lowdon Award- Created by the Maureen Connolly Brinker Foundation in 1972, this award honors an outstanding junior girl in Texas who has shown exceptional ability, a good ranking, a willingness to work with up-and-coming players, cooperation and proper respect, and a sportsmanlike and competitive spirit.

Maureen Connolly Brinker and Art Foust Sportsmanship Awards- Established

in 1975 and 1988 respectively and presented annually, these awards honor a Super Championship Boy and Girl for outstanding sportsmanship and fair play both on and off the court. Final selection is made by the players at the Texas Summer Grand Slam.

Zina Garrison and Bob McKinley Sportsmanship Awards- Established in 2006 and 2005 respectively and presented annually, these awards honor a Super Championship 16s Boy and Girl for outstanding sportsmanship and fair play both on and off the court. Final selection is made by the players at the Summer Grand Slam. Chuck McKinley Award- Inaugurated in 2001, this award honors a USTA Texas

junior tennis player who achieved the most outstanding results at the National and/or International level, during the previous calendar year.
