WHAT IS A BLOG? •

A blog (short for "Web log") is a Web site, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as images or video.

•

"Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

•

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.

THE FUNCTION OF THE BLOGS You will be frequently set a task in relation to your blog – this could be as often as twice a week. It could be a research or reflection based task depending on where you’re at in the course. The tasks are a bare minimum – those students who are aiming for top marks will use the blog as a scrap book for research and ideas and a functional, reflective, constraints based production log. Here are some examples from year 12 British Social Realism Example 1 http://gemmalouisedoherty.blogspot.com/ Example 2 http://abdul100.blogspot.com/ What are the key differences? What do you think works? What doesn’t work?
