RECOgNITIONS Research by the Brookings Institution shows the upstate region has 10.6 percent of jobs by foreign-owned enterprises (fOEs), almost double the national average. Of the 366 metropolitan areas, Spartanburg ranks 3rd for share of jobs in FOEs and Anderson 7th; Gaffney ranks 11th among the nation’s 616 micropolitan areas. A study by the National Association of Counties shows that anderson County is one of just 65 counties nationwide that has fully recovered from the recent recession. Recovery was based on meeting or surpassing pre-recession levels for home prices, economic output, unemployment rate and jobs. According to Site Selection magazine’s 2014 list of Top Micropolitans, the Seneca micropolitan is ranked 27th out of 576 areas in the nation based on the number of economic development projects in the area during 2013.
Trade & Industry Development magazine selected Colgate-Palmolive Co., as one of the 2014 Corporate Investment & Community Impact (CiCi) awards of 2013. The CiCi Award recognizes both the companies making investments in the community, and the economic developers responsible for securing them. This is the ninth consecutive year that SC economic development projects have received a CiCi Award. The 2014 annual manufacturing and Logistics Report awarded South Carolina an “a” for manufacturing Industry health and global Reach and a “b” for Sector Diversification. The Report shows how each state ranks among its peers in several areas of the economy that underlie the success of manufacturing and logistics.
