Youth Convention at Khetri on the occasion of 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda A Short Report Date: 9th February, 2013
Place: Polo Ground, Khetri
On the occasion of 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Mission, Khetri organized a district level youth convention for the youth aged12 to 30 years. The venue of the convention was covered by tent and a huge stage was erected with the backdrop of Swamiji’s photo. The entrance of the ground was decorated by a welcome gate. Apart from it seven welcome gates were placed in various points of the main roads. The ground was cleaned and various counters were placed for activities such as registration, food distribution etc.
The convention was attended by about 4000 youth of 50 institutions and 1000 other individuals. It was started at 8 am by the registration of the youth of different institutions. All registered youth was given breakfast. At 10-30 am the guests of the convention was ceremonially received by a group of students at the main entrance. The convention began by garlanding the portrait of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sarada Devi and Swamiji, lighting the lamp and vedic chanting by the monks.
The convention was presided over by Mr. D.C. Singhania, Chancellor, Singhania University; the chief guest was Dr. Chandrashekar, director, CEERI, Pilani; special guests were Sri Indraj Singh, additional director, LFAD, Government of Rajasthan and Sri Indraj Saini, additional Solicitor General, Government of Rajasthan; two main speakers were Swami Sarvahitananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Bhopal and Dr. Kedar Shiv Hare, Physician, M.P. 1

Assembled youth recited the ‘Swadesh Mantra’ of Swamiji along with Swami Chidvilasananda. The guests were greeted by Swami Atmanishthananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Khetri with bouquets and welcome speech. He also spoke about the relevance of Swamiji’s message to the youth. One of the main speakers Swami Sarvahitananda elaborately discussed the life and teachings of Swamiji. The other speaker Dr. Kedar Shiv Hare inspired the youth by making known the rich heritage of ancient India in divergent field of humanity. The special guests spoke about Swamiji’s association with Raja Ajit Singh, the Khetri town and Rajasthan. The Chief Guest Dr. Chandrashekhar shared with the youth his own views on Swamiji and how his teachings could be practiced. The president of the meeting Dr. D.C. Singhania expressed his eagerness to spread the message of Swamiji among the masses. He announced his decision to create a Vivekananda Chair in his university.
After a lunch break of one hour, the youth performed some cultural programmes. Drama on Swamiji, Group songs, Rally etc was presented by the assembled youth. The last session was kept for answering questions on relevant topics from the youth by the guests.
The Convention was ended by the distribution of Swamiji’s posters to the assembled youth.
