B.C.’s Chambers vote for a Transparent Approach to Taxation in B.C., Innovation in Regional Solid Waste Management, and for Provincial Role in Municipal Restructuring Business leaders from across B.C. met in Prince George to set an aggressive new policy agenda for the BC Chamber of Commerce’s advocacy efforts to the Province calling for a more transparent approach to taxation in B.C., innovation in regional solid waste management; and community and local government policies on rebalancing municipalities and regional districts, and for a provincial role in municipal restructuring, amongst others. These policies were passed at the BC Chamber Annual General Meeting & Conference, the province’s foremost business gathering, held this year in Prince George May 24-26. Representatives from Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce (MRCC) included Kristin Parsons, MRCC Executive Director and David Sawatzky, MRCC Board Director and Govt. Affairs Committee Chair. This unique grassroots policybuilding forum brought together chambers from all corners of the province vigorously debate and adopt new policies affecting business operations throughout the province. Policies that are adopted become part of the BC

Hussein Alibhai,
Senior Sales Manager Yellow Pages Group Hussein Alibhai is responsible for leading a team of digital advertising consultants who on a day to day basis help small & medium sizes businesses facilitate the transformation from traditional advertising solutions into full multi-media campaigns. Hussein?s interest in digital marketing stems from his tenure at Simon Fraser University, where he majored in Marketing and realized this was his true passion. The challenge of transforming a primarily print based business model into a full digital marketing giant is what excited Hussein about joining Yellow Pages Group. One thing that fascinates him is the sheer influence on consumer behaviour that Social Media has.

“Cedarbrooke is more than a place to live,” explains Tia Everitt from Chartwell’s Cedarbrooke Retirement Residence on 7th Ave. in Mission. “It’s a place to connect with other people, stay healthy and have fun.” Now into its eighth year, Cedarbrooke is a luxury retirement property—the only property of its kind in the Fraser Valley with a pool—working hard at making people’s lives better. The fully self-contained suites range in size from 550 sq. ft. (studio) to 1,500 sq. ft. (two bedrooms). In addition, each suite’s month-tomonth rental includes utilities (except phone and Internet), weekly housekeeping, activities, parking and a tasty and nutritious meal plan
provided by a Red Seal chef. “Many of our residents take off for vacation, with no worries,” says Everitt. “When they go away, they let us know and we look after things. No more searching for someone to mow the lawn or check in to make sure their homes are safe. We make it easy for them.” Cedarbrooke is ideal for active seniors who live independently and have a variety of interests. And, there are no age restrictions. Residents are even welcome to host overnight guests. “A resident’s unit—apartment—is his or her home.” Cedarbrooke is pet-friendly. “Pets with fur or feather and weighing less than 50 pounds are welcome here,” says Everitt.
“One of the things we are most happy to provide,” explains Everitt, “is the opportunity for people to try us out before they commit to living here.” A short-stay, per-night option for less than two months is available for those who want to see if they like the surroundings, meals, staff, activities and more. “If they do decide to move in, we’ll wipe the per-night charges out.” For more information, contact Everitt at Cedarbrooke: (604) 5575154 ext. 13234 or teveritt@chartwell.com. Visit Cedarbrooke Retirement Residence at 32331 – 7th Ave. in Mission.

THE CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE GROUP INSURANCE PLAN IS CANADA’S #1 PLAN FOR SMALL-TO-MEDIUM BUSINESSES, DELIVERING MORE BENEFITS FOR YOU AND YOUR COMPANY. Here are 10 top reasons 25,000 firms like yours are already covered. 1. This program has no industry restrictions. All for-profit businesses are guaranteed eligible while they are Chamber members. Not-for-profit organizations are also considered, on a case-by-case basis. 2. Your firm customizes its plan from a wide range - and many levels - of coverage, from Life and Disability, to Health, Dental, and even Critical Illness benefits. That lets you control coverage and cost! 3. You can include employee-paid products in your plan, from optional life insurance for employees and spouses, to retirement savings. 4. Your Chambers Plan coverage is guaranteed to continue as long as your firm pays its premium each month. With three or more full-time people, your firm can even choose options that guarantee coverage to each person. 5. This program averages the claims it pays each year over thousands of customers. Rates are based on this ‘pooled’ average, providing you with more stable premiums from year to year. 6. Claims can be paid a number of ways through provider eClaims, mybenefits eClaims or paper claims. And those claims are paid promptly and accurately: health and dental payments are typically on their way to you within 48 hours. 7. The Chambers Plan gives you my-benefits®, exceptional administration software. You have the option of running your plan online, anywhere, any time. 8. Claim forms, booklets and administration instructions are clearly written and easy to use. The National Service Line offers firms and
employees toll-free access to Plan information from anywhere in Canada. 9. The Plan is run under the direction of a not-for-profit organization (the Chambers Insurance Corporation of Canada), so premiums are set to cover the cost of benefits and administration. 10. The Chambers Plan delivers quality group insurance plus these value-added services, without additional charge • Best Doctors® gives employees and their own physician’s access to world-class medical advice, to confirm the diagnosis of serious conditions and plan the most effective treatments. • Business Assistance Service is a free service built into each Chambers Plan employee benefit program. This confidential service provides access to professional accounting, counseling, legal and human resource experts. • The plan’s Long Term Disability options include Confidential Telephone Coaching to help owners and supervisors deal with difficult personnel issues, plus counseling for employees receiving disability benefits. • Health options include Preferred Vision discounts on eyewear purchases and Health Access Line, staffed by experts ready to answer questions about health, nutrition, and regional health resources. So how many reasons do you need? Whether you’re introducing or replacing a program, get all the benefits of the best group plan.
