Love is like a puzzle,

when you’re in love, all the pieces fit, but when your heart gets broken, it takes a while to get everything back together. - Anonymous

THE STORY

GETTING TO KNOW “I love you.” It is a sentence most of us have probably used at one time or another, though we probably do not want elaborate on the context we have used it in.

But hey!, what’s wrong with love ? As a wise Lennon once proclaimed, all you need is love, and how very right he was! Love is one of the central human emotions. We all experience love for someone or something, to varying degrees, at one time or another. Most of the time, when we think of love, it brings a warm, fuzzy, and sometimes naughty feeling – the type that makes us feel that nothing in the world matters, with the exception of our beloved. The start of a relationship is always the finest hour of romance. It is the magic of first moments, the time when you love every little thing about your lover, including the annoying habits. Romantic gestures, soft whispers of undying love and the compelling need to be with each other are all the symptoms.

BUT IT DOES NOT LAST FOR LONG AND YOU ARE LEFT WONDERING HOW IT ALL CHANGED...

THE STORY

BREAKING UP IS

NEVER FUN “I HAD A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN WHEN I WAS 17 OR 18” - KATE MOSS

“When I had to go and work it didn’t feel like me at all. I felt really bad about straddling this buff guy. I didn’t like it. I couldn’t get out of bed for two weeks. I thought I was going to die.” And also when she and Johnny Depp broke up, she reacted how any woman of sound mind would. She turned into a crying mess. For years. Yes, years!

BREAK UP SPLIT UP There is no pain like heartbreak when a relationship ends. Whether you were together a few months or many years. It hurts like hell and the entire world comes crushing down on you, right? All those hopes and dreams — gone! The end of a relationship means the beginning of a period of mourning and healing for both people. If the break up was mutual both people will experience a period of adjustment where they are getting used to no longer being together. If the break up was not mutual the person who ended things may be dealing with guilt and feelings that they may have made a mistake. The person being broken up with will definitely have to adjust, first to being rejected and second to life without somebody they still care for.

END UP!

SAYING GOOD-BYE IS HEARTBREAKING,

AND MOST OF US ARE TOTAL JERKS ABOUT IT! Heartbreak – the worst pain is the pain of a broken heart. You can not eat, or eat EVERYTHING in sight just to feel better. You can not sleep, you can not breathe, you can not go on. Life becomes a hazy glob of days filled with dull pain in your chest, a knot in the stomach, feelings of anger, hurt, and sadness. You cry and cry until you run out of tears.

NO ONE EVER DIED OF A BROKENHEART BUT IT CERTAINLY FEELS THAT WAY

MOST OF US KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE HEART BROKEN, WHETHER IT IS YOUNG LOVE THAT IS RUN OUT OF PASSION OR A MORE MATURE RELATIONSHIP.

END UP!

THE ROMANCE ENDS ? Romantic Love is when attraction and closeness are combined. Lots of relationships grow out of an initial attraction (a crush) and develop into closeness. It’s also possible for a friendship to move from closeness into attraction as two people realize their relationship is more than “just like” and they have become interested in one another in a romantic way. For people falling in love for the first time, it can be hard to tell the difference between the intense, new feelings of physical attraction and the deeper closeness that goes with being in love. Sometimes couples who fall in love develop committed relationships that last. Many relationships don’t last, though. We typically have shorter relationships, it is about a time when we instinctively seek lots of different experiences and try out different things. It’s all part of discovering who we are, what we value, and what we want out of life.

Another reason we tend to have shorter relationships because the things we want to get out of a romantic relationship change as we get a little older. Especially for guys — relationships are mainly about physical attraction. But by the time guys, they rate a person’s inner qualities as most important. Girls emphasize closeness as most important — although they don’t mind if a potential love interest is cute too!

10

When people ďŹ rst experience falling in love, it often starts as attraction. Sexual feelings can also be a part of this attraction. People at this stage might daydream about a crush or a new BF or GF. They may doodle the person’s name or think of their special someone while a particular song is playing.

The crazy intensity of the passion and attraction phase fades a bit after a while. Like putting all our energy into winning a race, this kind of passion is exhilarating but far too extreme to keep going forever.

If a relationship is destined to last, this is where closeness enters the picture. The early passionate intensity may fade, but a deep affectionate attachment takes its place.

It needs to be cared for and nurtured if it is to last through time. Just like friendships, relationships can fail if they are not given enough time and attention. This is one reason why some couples might not last perhaps someone is so busy that he or she has less time for a relationship, maybe a relationship ends when people take different career paths or maybe each person wants different things out of the relationship. Sometimes both people realize the relationship has reached its end; sometimes one person feels this way when the other does not.

1

in the shortest period of time.

distraction! That’s right, distract yourself as much as possible. Out of sight, out of mind! MAKE SURE you busy yourself with productive activities like exercise, friendtime, focusing on school or work.

2 cry it out! This is no time to put on a brave face. You’re wrought with disappointment and loss, it’s O-K to cry!, just for a while. AVOID being so dramatic too long. You won’t get any award for this.

23

TOP TIPS!

3 dance it out! Put on something upbeat. NO sappy love songs allowed! Be silly, be funky, have fun with it. It sounds crazy, but getting your real heart beating this way will do wonders for your proverbial broken one.

4 talk about it! Talk about your feelings with a friend. WARN THEM that they may get sick of listening to you say the same things over and over but you really need their help. Then set a mental deadline in your head.

5 plan for future! Stop living in the past, focus on the future. Think about the positive ways your life will change; more time for friends, pursuing old hobbies or taking up new ones. Just having more YOU time.

When you can think of the past and smile you’ll know that you’re well on your way!

PEOPLE INTERVIEW

The word heartbreak have never been so inspiring... We’be been chatting with these cool people who had heart-wrenching break-up but they earned and learned everything from it.

ADELE’S HEARTBREAK INSPIRED “ROLLING IN THE DEEP”

When she had started writing her new album in earnest in early 2009, Adele was still in her “first real relationship” but then it all started to fall apart. The day after she split with her long-term boyfriend, Adele went into the studio to write a ballad.

'I'M A FAILURE... THAT'S WHY I SING' - ADELE

“WHEN I’M ABOUT TO GET ANGRY IN MY HEART, I CAN REALLY FEEL MY BLOOD FLOWING AROUND MY BODY... AND I KEPT GOING: ‘FEEL MY HEARTBEAT PAUL!’ AND THE BEAT OF THE SONG WAS MY HEARTBEAT... IT JUST BUILT AND BUILT.” AND SO “ROLLING IN THE DEEP” WAS BORN.

Her songs began as ‘drunken diary ramblings’, but were soon turned into dramatic, fully fledged pieces of music by producers Rick Rubin (famous for getting the best out of Johnny Cash and the Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Paul Epworth (a British whiz who has worked with Adele’s friend Florence Welch, of Florence And The Machine).

The song reached number one in 11 countries, reaching the top spot on many Billboard charts. “Rolling in the Deep” is the fourth song to top the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 singles chart and to win both Grammy Award for Record of the Year and Song of the Year in the same year.

‘My music is based on personal experience, so I have to live a little before I can write anything,’ admits Adele. ‘It took a break-up to get me going. When I’m happy, I don’t have much to write about. ‘The songs on 19 were about my first, teenage love. He cheated on me, so it was a traumatic record.

WHEN OLINKA VISTICA, A FILM PRODUCER, AND DRAZEN GRUBISIC, A SCULPTOR, BROKE UP IN 2003

AFTER FOUR YEARS TOGETHER, THEY HAD ACCUMULATED ENOUGH STUFF TO FILL A MUSEUM.

Three years later, they decided to actually make one. They asked friends to contribute their own failed relationship artifacts and curated an exhibit in their hometown of Zagreb, Croatia.

The exhibit eventually toured the world, collecting cast-off mementos, love letters, and forgetme-nots, along the way. In 2010, the Museum of Broken Relationships settled in a permanent spot in Zagreb’s Upper Town neighborhood. It was awarded the 2011 Kenneth Hudson Award for being the most innovative museum in Europe.
