FOUR WHEELS MOVE THE BODY.

TWO WHEELS MOVE THE SOUL. No one really knows who first said those words, but their truth continues to echo at bike rallies and motorcycle clubs everywhere. Missouri has some great roads upon which to transport your soul. Last year, we introduced twenty of those routes in our inaugural edition of the Missouri Motorcycle Guide. This year, we’ve upped the offering to thirty. You’ll find a few old favorites and several new trips that open roads to the best of Missouri— from exciting terrain to beautiful vistas to some of the most entertaining and delicious stops you can make on your soulful journey. The Missouri Division of Tourism, several area visitors bureaus, and motorcycle dealerships have contributed the best of the best and extended open invitations to get out and see all the Show-Me State has to offer. Remember: just because we call it a motorcycle guide doesn’t mean these day trips and tours aren’t suitable for other vehicles. Drop the roof on your ragtop or load the brood in your Wagon Queen Family Truckster station wagon. Either way, it’s quite the ride. Enjoy!

Worth County Lake. Or, if you’re interested in total body immersion, dive into the Grant City Pool, open Memorial Day to Labor Day. Take Route 46 east out of Grant City to Allendale, where you’ll connect to Route C south. Just when you start thinking this is the straightest road you’ve ever been on, it’ll throw you a couple of sharp turns that take you to the banks of East Fork Grand River. Follow Route C into Albany, and sit down for a slice of pie at Poppa’s Family Restaurant. Take Highway 136 west out of Albany to the town of Stanberry. Highway 136 turns right on West Fourth Street and proceeds west until the town of Conception, where it turns back to the north. At Ravenwood, the highway turns back west, over the Platte River and into Maryville. Now that you’re back, stay awhile. Grab a brew and listen to some live music at The Pub. Or have a burger and watch the game at Carson’s Sports Grille.

NO, YOU WON’T NEED your snowshoes for this route, unless you go in the dead of winter. Then, we make no guarantees. This route resides in the extreme northwest portion of the state—ergo its name—and nearly kisses the Missouri-Iowa border at its northernmost point. Start in Maryville, the county seat of Nodaway County and home of Northwest Missouri State University. You’re going to end here, too, so we’ll tell you about all the hot spots in a bit. From Maryville, head north on Route 148. It’s a fairly straight ride through the Missouri prairie. You might find yourself channeling the spirits of the American Indians who once rode horseback through this land. At Hopkins, turn east on Route 246. It’ll cut sharply south before turning back east just before Sheridan. If you enjoy a road with more turns, you’re about to get your wish. At Grant City, take a few minutes to cool your toes in

Take Highway 136 east out of Bethany. Watch out when you approach Ravanna. The town’s first well has been preserved in its original location—the middle of the highway. Past Unionville, the route takes a sharp southern tack onto Route 149. South of Martinsville, don’t let the scenic terrain distract you from the tight turns in the road. Just past Novenger, turn east onto Route 6, and follow it over the Chariton River into Kirksville.

TRUMAN STATE UNIVERSITY

IN THE FIRST WEEK of August 1862, the American Civil War came to Kirksville. Casualties ran high for Confederate troops in the Battle of Kirksville, the destination of this picturesque route near the Missouri-Iowa border. The route starts at Bethany, the county seat of Harrison County and goes through Princeton—the birthplace of Martha “Calamity Jane” Cannary—Ravanna, Unionville, and Novinger before crossing the Chariton River into Kirksville.

Your Pony Express ride won’t be quite that extensive or time-consuming, but you’ll enjoy a lot of history and adventure as you cruise the smooth plains and wooded scenery of northwest Missouri. Take Highway 169 east out of St. Joseph. You’ll travel southeast for about eighteen miles. Turn east onto Route 116 for another eighteen miles. Turn north on Highway 69. Alongside Interstate 35, you’ll pass Wallace State Park and drive through Cameron and Winston. Highway 69 makes a sharp left on the other side of Winston. If you get to Altamont, you missed it. In about a mile, you’ll come to Route 6 on your left. Take it west all the way back to St. Joe. Visit StJoMo.com or call 800-785-0360 for more information on the region.

THE RIVER RUN 120 MILES • Hwys 24, 69; Rtes 10, 210, 291

Continue east on Highway 24 to the town of Waverly, where Peters Orchards and Market serves healthy snacks and offers seasonal tours of the orchards. Stay on Highway 24, and head north to cross the Missouri and ride straight into Carrollton. Refuel your bike at your choice of gas stations, refuel your body at one of many dining establishments, and refuel your soul (and soles) by dangling your feet in the water at Carrollton Recreation Lake. Look for Route 10 just before you reach the center of town, and go west through Missouri farmland. That will take you to Route 210 and back to Independence. However, you can stay on Route 10 for an alternate adventure through Richmond and on to Excelsior Springs. It adds a few more miles to the tour, but it’s worth it for a stop at the Broadway Bar & Grill or Ray’s Diner. Jump on Highway 69 to Route 291, and head south through Liberty and back to Independence. Or spend the night at the historic Elms Hotel in Excelsior Springs, and enjoy breakfast at the 88 at the Elms before heading out in the morning.

MISSOURI DIVISION OF TOURISM

IF YOU WERE TO GO west from this route’s starting point, you’d end up in the hustle and hubbub of Kansas City. We hear every thing’s up to date there. No matter. We’re taking the road less traveled. Start at Ron’s Roadhouse in Independence, where you’re likely to meet fellow bikers, many of whom will be starting or completing this popular route. Look around Independence on your way out. There’s a lot of history in this town, including the 1859 Jail, Marshal’s Home and Museum. Independence is also the hometown of Missouri’s only president, Harry S. Truman. Take Highway 24 out of Independence, and head east along the Missouri River. Follow the highway through the river towns along the southern edge of the river for half of the 120mile journey. Explore historic downtown Lexington. The bloody Civil War Battle of Lexington took place here, and the state historic site commemorates that conflict. There’s always something going on in Lexington and its surrounding wineries. Check VisitLexingtonMo.com to plan your tour around one of the city’s many festivals and fairs.

IF YOUR QUEST is to reach the reachable star, this route—on the state’s far northeast corner—should top your list. The trail starts in Kirksville, nicknamed Missouri’s North Star, home to two universities and the site of a major battle in the American Civil War. Confederate soldiers executed in the city were buried in a mass grave at Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery, a few blocks west of Kirksville’s Square. Before you ride or after you finish, be sure to stop in the Wooden Nickel Restaurant for a great meal. For more information, go to VisitKirksville.com. From Kirksville, head north on Highway 63 to the town of Lancaster. In 1869, Howard R. Hughes Sr.—the father of the eccentric fil maker and millionaire Howard Hughes Jr.— was born in Lancaster. He would attend military school in Mexico, Missouri, before finding fortune as a tool inventor. At Lancaster, catch Highway 136 east to [ 18 ] 2016 Missouri Motorcycle Guide

Memphis, Missouri. Drop in at Keith’s Café for everything from grilled cheese sandwiches to T-bone steaks. You’ll also want to go to MemphisMoChamber.com to check the schedule for community events, such as the Scotland County Antique Fair, August 24 through 28. Continue on Highway 136 east out of Memphis to Kahoka. At Kahoka, catch Route 81 south to Canton. This scenic town located right on the west bank of the Mississippi River has a lot to offer visitors, whether it’s dining, antique shopping, or exploring. The Buckin’ Bull Saloon serves up cold beverages, sandwiches, pool, and pizza Wednesday through Saturday. If you want to cook your own, most of the city parks in Canton have barbecue grills for public use. A complete list is available at ShowMeCantonMo.com. In Canton, look for Route 16 and take that east to New Court, where it meets Route 6. Follow Route 6 back to Kirksville.

adventure, take Route A back to New London, where you can head back to Hannibal. If you’re hungry for more, turn back down Route J to Perry. This time, head east on Highway 154 to Route 19, then south to rejoin Highway 154 east. On the north side of Bowling Green, take Route UU to Louisiana, Missouri, to complete the second loop. From Louisiana, return to Hannibal on the Great River Road (Highway 79) or finish the last loop in your Mark Twain Adventure. Take Route UU or Highway 54 back to Bowling Green, and turn south onto Highway 161. At Ashley, turn left onto Route Z, and enjoy the easy curves that lead to Elsberry. You’ve done it! You’ve completed your own Mark Twain Adventure. Enjoy the scenic ride back to Hannibal on the Great River Road. Once there, drop into the Visitors Bureau and tour the historic downtown. Nearby, fi ish off with a burger and beer at the Mark Twain Brewing Company.

AT MORE THAN TWO HUNDRED miles, this route can be broken into shorter trips, because you’re going to want to come back to Hannibal over and over again. Take Highway 79 south out of Hannibal. Turn right on Route N at Saverton and continue straight onto Route T. Turn left on Route T, and then turn right onto Route V into New London. Take Route A west out of New London. Catch Route J north, and turn left on Route W on the edge of Monroe City. From Monroe City, take I-24 south to Highway 107. This will take you to Florida, Missouri, birthplace of Mark Twain and the state park named for him. South of Twain’s birthplace museum, take Highway 154 east to Perry. For a better tour of the lake, turn north on Route J at Perry. Sweeping turns will take you to the Clarence Cannon Dam. Continuing on Route J will bring you back to Route A. If you’ve had enough

weekend in October for the annual Folklife Festival. Hannibal is best known for being the boyhood home of Mark Twain and the inspiration behind such literary creations as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. You’ll take Route 79 all the way on this trip, beginning in Hannibal and ending in Clarksville. About ten miles south of Hannibal, near the dam at Saverston, pause to look to the skies for the bald eagles that migrate to the high bluffs. Pike County is one of the largest winter migration areas for bald eagles. Continue south on 79 to Louisiana, Missouri, home to what the State Department of Natural Resources has called the most intact Victorian streetscape in the state. Downtown Louisiana is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Georgia Street Historical District, noteworthy for its antebellum homes. A walking tour is available for download at Louisiana-Mo.com. Stop near Clarksville at Lookout Point and Sky Lift Hill at Lock and Dam No. 24. This is one of the highest points along the river and offers an unmatched view of the Mississippi and the river valley.

HERE’S A CHANCE to capture a bit of Americana right in your own backyard. The Great River Road National Scenic Byway—2,069 miles running between Minnesota and Louisiana and hugging the Mississippi River all the way—is almost as mythical as its east-to-west cousin, Route 66. It has been called one of the greatest motorcycle routes in North America. This route offers a sampling of the greater road with a forty-three-mile adventure from Hannibal to Clarksville. Settlers from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia who moved to the area following the Louisiana Purchase called it the Little Dixie Region. The Missouri Department of Conversation has recognized the Little Dixie Highway for offering the most outstanding locale for nature tourism in the state. And local residents call the road from Hannibal to Clarksville the Fifty Miles of Art Corridor in recognition of the many fine artists, crafts people, and artisans who call the area home. Historic homes, great family restaurants, a riverboat cruise, museums, and more make Hannibal a good place to spend the night before or after your ride. Visit during the third

DRIVE THROUGH the Missouri River valley’s rolling green hills, pastureland, and prairies—all in one county. Head east out of Fulton on Route O. You can top your tank at the C&C Store before catching Route D south to Portland. Southern classic paired with beer, bourbon, or wine at the Trail Smokehouse—open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Wine Country Gardens in Defiance sits on forty-two acres of beautiful rolling hills that overlook the Missouri River Valley. The Gardens serves delicious food in addition to offering a large selection of domestic and foreign wines. Its landscaping was featured in Better Homes and Gardens. The road southwest to Augusta is fairly undemanding and incredibly beautiful. The highway kisses the bank of the Big Muddy before turning westward into a bit more challenging drive. At Augusta, you’ll want to take lots of time to visit all the vineyards and wineries. Remember this is a short route, so take your time. The final three wineries lie back on the road between Augusta and Dutzow. Remember: drink responsibly when riding.

THIS ROUTE IS quite a bit shorter than the others in this guide. But once you see what the trail holds, we think you’ll be stopping a lot along the way, making for an eventful— and delicious—trip through the state’s historic wine country. This one’s easy to follow; just take Route 94 the whole way. The hills, turns, and beautiful vistas make it a must! The route begins in Defiance, just thirty-eight miles west of St. Louis, where the wineries and unique dining experiences may make you want to delay your start until after lunchtime. The Katy Trail runs through Defiance, so you’re likely to encounter the other form of biker on your journey. The Defiance Roadhouse is known as a pit stop for bikers with great food, St. Louis branded beer, a covered patio, and a horseshoe pit. Don’t miss the resident squirrels! At Versailles, turn east onto Route W to begin your southward trek back to the lake. Take your time. Ride across the dam and onto the strip where you’ll find The Leather Man right across the street from the giant Indian. Once you link up to Business 54, there is a plethora of restaurants and bars, many with outdoor seating and live music, so you can extend your day long into the Missouri night.

If you’ve timed it right, you might be able to catch a play at the Lyceum Theatre, one of Missouri’s oldest professional regional theaters. Turn south onto Santa Fe Road, through Blackwater (don’t miss Bucksnort Trading Company), and on to Boonville, where you can try your luck at the Isle of Capri Casino. The route to Columbia takes you by Warm Springs Ranch, where the Budweiser Clydesdale horses are born and raised. A trip back over the Missouri River on the Boonslick Bridge takes you to Highway 40, through New Franklin, Rocheport, Midway, and a short drive on I-70 back to Columbia.

HERE’S A TRAIL that’s a bit more flex ble than the others. You can take the full 157mile journey through beautiful mid-Missouri scenery, or you can take a shortcut across the Boonslick Loop. There’s plenty more to discover at attractions such as the Governor’s Mansion and Cole County Historical Society Museum, along with panoramic views of the city from the pedestrian/bike path attached to the Highway 54 Missouri River Bridge. From Jefferson City, take Highway 50 east. Just past where the highway crosses the Osage River, you can choose either Route A or Route 100. Route A sticks closer to the banks of the Missouri River and eventually doubles back to Route 100 just west of Chamois. Continue on Route 100 through Gasconade to Hermann. At Washington, cross the Missouri River on Route 47, then it’s back west along Route 94 on the Missouri’s north bank. Take Highway 63/54 back into Jeff City. Two other parks, Memorial and Bushman, both have barbecue grills for a perfect picnic. From Owensville, catch Route 42 west through the towns of Canaan and Belle and over the Gasconade River to Vienna. Continue on Route 42 west through the gentle hills of Missouri farmland to Iberia. If you continue on Route 42, you’ll come out at Osage Beach on the Lake of the Ozarks. Turn right on Route 17, and follow it to Tuscumbia. From the bridge going into Tuscumbia, you’ll get a beautiful view of the Osage River. If you want to go right down to the water, turn left at the three-way stop, and follow Route HH. Then head back over the river, this time connecting with Route 52 west, through St. Elizabeth to Meta, where you’ll connect with Route 133. Take Route 133 to Highway 63, and turn right to ride down the gently sloping hill into the beautiful German enclave of Westphalia. Continue south on Highway 63 to Route U. It’s a sharp left, and you’ll want to make sure the vehicles behind you are slowing down. Power through the curves through Rich Fountain and north back to Linn.

THE REWARD at the far western side of this thrilling ride is the most beautiful view of the Osage River you’ll find without riding the river itself. This roller coaster circuit— with twists and turns and hills throughout— takes you through Maries, Osage, Miller, and Gasconade Counties (MOMG), though not necessarily in that order. MOMG just looks so much better than GOMM. You can start this route from any number of towns along the way—Vienna, Iberia, Tuscumbia, Westphalia, Owensville—but for purposes of convenience, we’re starting at twelve o’clock and working our way clockwise. Feel free to improvise. Linn is located about ten miles east of Jefferson City on Highway 50. Home of the State Technical College of Missouri, Linn also boasts a number of eateries and bars to check out as you start or finish your ride. You could just head east on Highway 50 out of Linn, but what fun would that be? Take Route 89 south for a scenic ride and a hairpin turn you won’t want to miss. At Route D, turn left for some more curves and turns along the bank of the Gasconade River. At Mount Sterling, jump back on Highway 50 for a few short miles to the junction of Routes K and P. Take Route P south, and look sharp for two ninety-degree turns—first right,

including fishing and swimming Before you reach the turn onto Route UU for the park, you can choose to take a left on Route Z for the alternate route, bypassing Clinton. But don’t make your decision in haste. With the largest town square in Missouri and a variety of excellent restaurants, Clinton is waiting to be explored. Take a left at the intersection in Clinton to jump onto Route 13 south. Continue on Route 13 for about twenty-five miles. Check out the awesome selection of cheese at the Osceola Cheese Company on your way through Osceola. Then turn left onto Route 82 going east. Follow the highway until it intersects with Route 83, and turn left. Route 83 will take you all the way back to Warsaw and Route 7 where you began. A great time to ride this loop is the third week of October during Warsaw’s Heritage Days. Not only will you be able to appreciate the festivities, but also the spectacular Ozark fall colors. The entire loop is surrounded by state wildlife and conservation areas loaded with hiking trails, camping, and scenic views.

TOUR THE AREA and loop around Truman Lake, a hot spot for tourists and locals alike, with boating, camping, ATV riding, and fishing. On this route, you’ll have at least eight chances to wade into Truman Lake. Visit Drake Harbor, or stroll around the thriving lake town of Warsaw, and discover a new favorite haunt. Perched high on a bluff, the Truman Dam Visitors Center has a stunning view of the lake and dam as well as a wealth of natural history exhibits. The Truman Lake Loop offers an alternative route to cut this ride into a half day’s trip by crossing the Osage River along Route Z. The alternate route—approximately fifty-three miles—puts you on Route 82 but is more challenging for riders, with tight turns and a few switchbacks thrown in. Beginning in Warsaw, head west on Route 7 toward Clinton. Throughout the ride and especially along Harry S. Truman State Park, a slight detour along Route UU, you’ll see western Ozark landscape: dry, open oak woodlands with bands of rocky prairies that are abundant with wildflowers and native grasses. The park also has a marina and outdoor activities,

Get Your Ride On Around Truman Lake

One of the best parts of riding in southern Benton County is taking the loop around Missouri’s largest lake. Bluffs, farmland, Ozark foothills, unique restaurants, a river city, and three-milelong bridges make this route fun for all riders.

Why the Truman Lake Route is The One to Ride:

Warsaw – Take in great food and outstanding views and right on the Osage River (Lake of Ozarks). Camping – There is plenty of places to camp around Truman Lake and the US Army Corps Campgrounds and lots of private spots for everything from tents to fully equipped RV parks. Truman Lake Loop – Missouri’s largest lake has plenty of places to fish, stop, and rest. Rolling Ozark Foothills – Enjoy bluffs, open roads, straightaways, and hills that are not too high. Wildlife – Look for turkeys, deer, bald eagles, and a variety of critters on your loop. Accessible – Right off Highway 65 or Highway 13, it’s easy to get on the loop and off.

See Page 52 for the route. Find out more at the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce at www.warsawchamberofcommerce.com or Benton County Tourism at www.visitbentoncomo.com.

THIS SCENIC LOOP starts and ends in Camdenton, but for a more fun experience, you might want to stop short of Camdenton at the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri’s favorite summer vacation destination. Take Highway 54 west out of Camdenton. You won’t get far before you come to Ha Ha Tonka State Park. It’s worth a brief detour to explore the ruins of a turn-of-the-twentieth-century castle built high on a bluff overlooking Ha Ha Tonka Spring. The park offers visitors boating, swimming, fishing, and a fifteen-mile hiking trail that leads to sinkholes, caves, and the aforementioned castle. Back on Highway 54, continue west through Macks Creek. Keep an eye on the speedometer as you cruise through; until 1995, Macks Creek was one of the most infamous speed traps in the country. PEEL FERRY ROUTE 113 MILES • Hwys 65, 160; Rtes 7, 14, 268, 125, 76

IF YOU haven’t experienced the Peel Ferry Route, you haven’t experienced the most unique route in the Ozarks. The Peel Ferry was developed when the White River was dammed to make Bull Shoals Lake. The lake now covers Arkansas Route 125 leading into Missouri. To compensate for the road loss, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department created the ferry to transport vehicles across the lake into Missouri. There is no charge for the ferry ride. Just pull up to the landing, wait for the ferry to arrive (about every twenty minutes), and enjoy a ride across the lake. The route takes you on a wonderful ride through the Missouri countryside before arriving in Forsyth and Branson. Take Scenic Highway 7 north out of Harrison, Arkansas. At High[ 62 ] 2016 Missouri Motorcycle Guide

way 14, turn east for a very short distance to Arkansas Route 268 North. Route 268 North intersects with Arkansas Route 125 where it passes the Corps of Engineers Park on the right side. Route 125 deadends at the Peel Ferry Crossing. Relax, and let the ferry captain do the driving as you cross the lake. On the Missouri side of the lake, take Missouri Route 125 to Highway 160 and turn west. Highway 160 intersects Missouri Route 76 just east of Forsyth. Take Missouri Route 76 through Branson, taking time to enjoy the many restaurants, attractions, and shows of this popular Ozarks town. Then take Highway 65 back to Harrison. This route is probably best taken during the harvest season when the crops are mature. Be aware of strong gusts of wind—and earthquakes. Make your way onto Route OO to start this ride. Hit Route F and proceed for a short three miles before finding Twin Oaks, your first winery on the Route du Vin. Take Sand Creek Road to visit Sand Creek Winery, or branch off onto Laws Road, just a few minutes from Twin Oaks, to stop by Papa’s Vineyard. To continue the tour, get back on Route F for another ten miles before coming to the next winery. Take another branch off of Route F. There are long, smooth curves on Route F, but once it merges with Route B, the curves are more pronounced. This leg of the trip will take you to the Crown Ridge Tiger Sanctuary, where you can tour the grounds and enjoy some delicious food. The sanctuary has a resort if you want to plan an exotic and luxurious retreat. Route B skirts I-55 before hitting Route 32. Take a left to continue the loop, and head back to Farmington. Route 32 meanders through creeks and nature areas to rejoin Route OO in Farmington. Hawn State Park and the Pickle Springs Natural Area are great stops if you like clear-bottomed streams, peace, and quiet.

JUST ONE HOUR SOUTH of St. Louis, at the eastern edge of the beautiful Ozark Mountains, you will discover Farmington. Surrounded by nine of Missouri’s most scenic state parks, challenging golf courses, hiking trails, and award-winning vineyards and wineries, Farmington is the perfect destination. There are ten wineries within twenty minutes of Farmington, and this route passes by all of them. It also coincides with the Route du Vin Ste. Genevieve Missouri Wine Trail. Southeast Missouri is one of the most beautiful regions of the Midwest, with rolling hills, green grasses, and spectacular fall colors. Either on your way into Farmington or on your trip out, St. Joe State Park is a great beginning or ending. You could spend all day in Farmington alone, but a visit to the Factory is a must. Developed from a seventy-five-yea -old garment building, the Factory was renovated into a destination for shopping and great food. Route 21 curves east along the park and then takes a sharp right where it intersects with Route NN. After the turn, you’ll hit Pilot Knob, Ironton, and Arcadia, where the road crosses Route 72. The tri-town area is a great place to stretch your legs, grab a bite, or soak up some history. After Arcadia, Route 21 curves to the west and skirts a few conservation areas and Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park before meeting up with Route 49 and heading north through the middle of the Mark Twain National Forest. Be prepared for long stretches and winding roads through a canopy of trees. Some small towns along the way provide places to gas up. Once you leave the forest, take Route 19 in Cherryville to get back to Steelville. After a long day’s ride navigating the forest, reward yourself with an ice cream cone, a float, or any other tasty treat from the Soda Fountain in Steelville.

THIS LOOP—which takes you along Routes 8, 21, 49, and 19—would make a great sidetrip for the Cuba Route 66 Mural City route on page 26 of this guide. Reconnect with nature and enjoy the scenic rivers, lakes, creeks, and rolling pastures— some of eastern Missouri’s prettiest—while following the twists and turns of this ride. Beginning in Steelville, meander your way east down Route 8 until you reach Potosi. The road goes through downtown Potosi before intersecting with Route 21 where you’ll turn right and head south across Big River. Don’t miss the chance to get a look at some of the beautiful antebellum homes and historic architecture in Potosi. From there, continue along Route 21, passing through Caledonia. Be especially mindful of sharp, unbanked curves on Route A. From here, you can go north along Route 19, hit Route KK to take a ride across the Akers Ferry, and cruise through Summersville for a longer loop. Or just continue down Route 19 to return to Eminence.

THIS ROUTE TAKES YOU into the heart of the Missouri Ozarks, full of breathtaking natural beauty and historic landmarks. The area is populated with clear, spring-fed streams, crystalline rivers, and lush forest. Be sure to bring your hiking boots because the natural landmarks beg to be explored. While the roads are well paved, they can become tight twists, so be alert as this tour follows part of the famous Ozark Hellbender motorcycle route. The area has a lot of campsites available. MotorcycleRoads.com calls a variant of this route the “Jessie James Getaway,” named for the outlaw’s train robbery at Gad’s Hill and subsequent chase through the area.
