Gillette and all the rest of the faculty and staff that have made my time here interesting. I will also miss a lot of the cadets, like Miller, Clubb, Haner, Puck, Goro. Taylor and Hasheeve. I cannot name everyone. Missouri Military Academy was the greatest thing that my parents gave me. so I especially thank Mom and Dad. Also, I thank my little sister. Michelle, for missing me and reminding me I was loved every day. I will miss you all, cadets, and I hope to see you again. I have learned about many cultures. I now have friends almost anywhere in the world. I would like to end by saying. "Nothing makes the earth seem so spacious as to have fnends at a distance. They make the latitudes and longitudes." 1st Lt. Gaston Batalla, Bravo 3 Platoon Leader It has been more than 700 days since I first came to this school, and at last the moment I have waited so long for has finally come. Now it is time for me to say goodbye and move ahead in life. First, I want to thank my family and friends back in Costa Rica, who always supported me. Also, I want to thank the faculty and staff of the Academy, who kept me going Last, but not least, I thank my MMA brothers. I will never forget them. All the good times we shared together will always stay in my mind, as well as the many friendships. "Look not mournfully into the past. It comes not back again. Wisely improve the present. It is thine. Go forth to meet the shadowy future without fear." (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, 1807 1882)

Sgt. Uriel Beltran, Delta Guide-on What can I say? Coming to MMA was a life-changing experience. The formations, the inspections ... I never thought of myself doing those military activities, but in the summer of 2007 I found out about it. That is when I knew I had I turning point in my life Now it is summer 2008, a year has passed and I have changed for the best. I can happily say I have no regrets about coming to the Academy. I hope others see it the same v/ay as I do. Yes, sometimes it can be irritating, but I can say that at the end it is all worth it. Living in Delta Company was the best. It became my home away from home for nine months. Sometimes I wish I v/ould have came here earlier, but I believe that everything happens for a reason. Everywhere I have been, the people I've made friends with have made me the person that I am today. So, thanks to the Fantastic 5 for helping me get through this. Long live the Fantastic 5! I really do not feel like thanking anyone, but I will do it because I am a generous person! I will start with the faculty and staff: CSM Williams, you are my hero; Sgt Maj. Blackaby, you made me laugh and it was fun to have you as a mentor; Maj. Seibert you made me the person I am! To all the teachers who contributed to my useful education (particularly Lt. Col. Matlosz, Capt. Gonzalez, Capt. Shoemaker, Capt. Syed and Capt Lagemann), thank you. I hope I will use those skills and knowledge. I want to also thank the administration for granting me the tools to come here the last three years. All of this would have been nothing without my friends Nevin Harralson, Waschkowski, Huppert, Ryan Miranda, the Juggernaut Manolo Camargo, Nick Norwood and all the others that I do not have the will nor patience to write down. I wish I could say good things about my awesome E2, but I cannot think of any! I wish to everyone good luck.

There are many routes in life, and we have to choose only one in each situation. Eventually v/e choose according to what we know, and hope that it was right. To all the seniors, I hope you all do well in college and don't party too much. To the faculty, I'm thankful how much you all have helped me, like Sgt Wheeler, Maj. McClarey and Maj. Ableman. Maj. Almost 1,000 days at Missouri Military Academy, and everything went really fast. Now I realize that the experience here is over, and I am about to start a new and real life. In my time here I had some bad and some really good times. I enjoyed every minute of it, but sometimes it was hard. I made some really good friends and met a lot of people I will really miss! I don't want to mention all the names, because if somehow I miss one I don't want to hurt any feelings. The really special ones have been Victor Caraballo. I really love you! I am going to miss all the classes together and all the messing around we did. Angel Olea, we were roommates for like a week, but those were really good times! All of you underclassmen, I want to wish you guys really good luck in all you do. I want to give thanks to all the friends and brothers I made here. I am really thankful to my family, which supported me in every decision Finally, but not least, to all the teachers that helped me in my schoolwork and whenever I needed it, and to the faculty that helped me when I was going in the wrong way thank you. Thanks to all my senior brothers who were with me whenever I needed it. I hope everybody has a really good and safe rest of your life! I hope I see you guys soon. We have to keep in touch somehow.

So, I am not a high school cadet anymore? Well, it is finally over. If I have to say I am not going to miss it here. I would be lying. Four years I have been at MMA, not just one year or couple months. All my high school memories are here. However, Kimmmy (YH), you are still my best Korean friend. I hope next time I see you your Chinese is a lot better. Miller, when are you coming to China? You have been telling me all the time, but I never see you come. My house is always open for you, buddy. Chinese and Taiwanese guys, come on! Dont get behind the Koreans. I thank all of the cadets, faculty, friends and some of strangers. Maybe I will see you guys in the future somewhere. I do not know how to explain what MMA has done for me. I dont regret any of the things I have experienced in these past three years. First. I want to thank my parents for supporting me throughout my time here. Te quero mucho mama; te quero mucho papd. Everything I have done has been for you, but everything you have done was for me. Next I v/ant to thank the entire faculty; your support has helped me to get v/here I am today. Last, but definitely not least. I want to thank all the friends I have made here at MMA. Master Sgt. Michael Haner-McAllister It all started this one year .. My first year was uneventful. I didnt make many friends until I joined band. See you, guys. Contact me in Austin.

Staff Sgt. Brad Lutat Collierville, Tennessee Athletics: Football. Varsity Baseball.

Well, after the longest year-and-a-half of my life, I came out of it with some of the best experiences of my life. At first, my perception of military school was something straight out of "Full Metal Jacket." Within the first week, however, I found that the next year and one-half would be a little easier than I anticipated. I never would've thought that the friends I would make here I would hold so valuable to me. Bobby, thanks for keeping my spirits high and making my transition to Memphis an easy one. Justin, Drew, Jared. Derek. Diego: You guys have been a part of some of the greatest times I've had here. Alex. Tom, Puck, 'Killa Canlla': We'll always be bound together by baseball. Despite our performance at districts, we still had a great year. DJ Con Queso, your throbbing bass still gives me a throbbing headache, but somehow through that you taught me to play music, not records. Lastly, I'd like to thank everyone who has been a part of my success. Mom, Dad and Katie, you guys have always been there to support me. Grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, your encouragement has helped me strive for success. Thank you, God. Without your guidance, I wouldn't be here today. Class of 2008, it's our time to shine.

Sgt. 1st Class Shi Xuan Meng OK, here we go. Its the time to say goodbye. The scene that is still in my mind is the first time I came here. Im excited and sad at this point. First, I want to thank my aunt Ying and Mrs. Carnahan. They are the key people who sent me to MMA and took care of me in the U.S. Thank you to my parents for paying for me to go to a great school here. Thanks to all the people who work at MMA. Everyone, it doesnt matter how many problems we had before, and it doesn't matter how we may have argued with each other in the past. That is how a brotherhood is supposed to be, isn't it? Ill miss you all so bad. Please stay in touch.

1st Lt. Thomas Mennemeyer, Delta 1 Platoon Leader I have spent five years of my young life here, and I think that each and every one of them has been worth it. I have learned so much about not only life, but about myself. I can not imagine what I v/ould be like, if not for this place and the people in it. Teachers, thank you for putting up with me these past five years. You guys taught me so much that I will use in life, and for that I thank you very much. Mentors, thanks for so much. You were always there, willing to help me out, or fry me up in a second if I needed it. Without you guys, who would I be today? Friends. There are so many people who have touched my life here, so many that I could not possibly list them all. Living, eating, drilling, complaining and fighting, day in and day out, with each other really forges a brotherhood that nothing can break. I love my MMA friends, and will never forget them. Brothers. There are some people here who I have come so close to that we have transcended the word friends and have become brothers. Those guys I would gladly take a bullet for. I will never lose touch with them. We all eventually move on in life, and this is really the first time I am learning that lesson. It will be sad, but I am excited for my new life, where I have the tools to make my wildest dreams come true. Thank you, all... teachers, mentors, friends and brothers. I love you all.

1st Lt. Won Seok Oh, Delta 3 Platoon Leader I still remember the first day I entered this campus. My eyes were full of fear, and my heart was running faster than what I have ever felt. I was holding my mothers hands, saying, "Don't let me be alone." It was exactly two years and nine months ago. I still can not believe that I am one of the seniors and a first lieutenant. I remember every day that I have gone through, but can not believe that I actually did it. Now, I am facing graduation from both high school and being a teenage boy. Those times are over. I am ready to become an adult, and know I will be responsible for everything what I will be doing. Toward being an adult, I have no doubt that MMA affected me more than a lot. During the time at MMA, I saw, heard and felt many things about myself and others. Also, I learned about totally new things that I had never experienced. Taking many positions, dealing with people, and sometimes suffering sadness, I grew up into a person who can take care of himself. At MMA, I had to deal with hardship and adversity, but I must say that the MMA means more than my home, because I was born here newly.

1st Lt. Angel Olea, Charlie XO First. I would like to thank my parents for all the things they have done for me, and for sending me to this school. Without them, I would not have come this far. I spent three years in the Academy, and I always wanted to go back home, but my dad and mom always helped me choose the right way. How can I forget my sister7 She has been a big inspiration and has helped me a lot in any problem I had. I just had to talk to her, and I try to work hard so I could be a little bit like her. It was not easy for me, and I would never have done it without my buddies, especially Flores, Iga, Valdez. Guti. Teele, Zuazua. Campos. Filiguerto (Guevara), Ruiz JE, el perro Martinez, ponchillo, rooomi, mi hermanooo Arturo, Jorge Legorreta, Chendoooo, Beltran U., Miranda D., Batalla, Avelar gordooo, Alain, Davilita, bobbiiii, Bisanz and (Johnny) Guerra. I also want to wish good luck to all the underclassmen, especially Roman Cepeda (humilde) and Aldo (tambuin) Sanchez. There are three I will never forget, and they symbolize a lot to me. They have been a great support for me - Victor Caraballo has always been there for me in the good and bad; Jose Luis Castro has been the best; and Jorge (el sementai) Romo, thank you for everything. La constancla es la clave del exito. I love you, Mom and Dad.

I did it! It was a long struggle that began in 2003 when I first got here to Junior School. That was a long, but fun year, and it prepared me for High School. First year in High School set up the mood for the years to come. A good thing that happened to me that year was the times spent with the best friend I ever had, Ryan Harkey Second year was somewhat easier, due to the fact that I lived in Echo with CapL Kronquist as my mentor. This year was something special! It went by so fast! I don't regret anything I have done. After all, there are people who remain loyal to themselves and those who bend to others. I am just glad and grateful that there was a person who didn't misjudge me and gave me an another chance. Good luck to Capt. Quint, Lt. Schell and Mrs. Brooks. Special thanks to MajGen Flanagan, Capt. Gonzalez and CSM Williams. Farewell, MMA!

Pvt. 1st Class Conor Susi Considering none of us has ever done this before, most of us really dont know where to start on a senior quote. For me, this being my first year at MMA, it was especially difficult for me to come up with something to say. i guess I should start where all the other great writers started, at the beginning. I came here to straighten out my life, not to look like a soldier or act like a gentleman Studying like a scholar just really wasn't for me, either. I didn't come to the Academy expecting to come out with friends, or even brothers for that matter What I did need was a little help getting my life back together, and getting the grades that I knew I could get if I had the right mind-set, teachers and motivation Although I came with the attitude of not wanting to follow the rules and play the game, I left with an immense change in position This being my senior year, it was difficult not to focus on my studies. College was on its way faster than I expected. With teachers supporting and motivating you, like Maj. McClarey, it is tough not to succeed. It has been the most important year of my life, meeting friends and brothers who will stay with me forever, like Drummond, Ortega (Quesito), Carrillo (Burrito), Rider (best roommate ever!), Lopez (Uncle Ian), Chantos (Slim), Yeakel, Doughty (Pudding), Perkmson (Perky), Blue (Iowa!), Capt Potter, Lt. Samb, Capt McDonald and many others who I know would be there for me in times of need I suppose I shall end like all good writers, with a quote. "Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending." Thanks.

Maj. Rene Zuazua, Delta Commander In May 2004,1 was preparing to leave my home to come to MMA. Now, in May 2008,1 am preparing to leave what I so proudly recall as my second home. Four years away from home and from loved ones is not easy, but now its certainly harder to leave my friends who lived with me for 36 months. First of all, I want to thanks to God for the opportunity. To my parents, to whom I know my calls were annoying, your advice really helped. I love you both. Maria and Katy, thank you for your support over the years. CSM Williams, you really made an impact in my life. To my friends at MMA (you know who you are), thank you for those moments which made my 1,461 days go easier. Thank you for that daily smile that turned my sad days into happy ones. I know I will be seeing you in Monterrey. Finally, to my Delta guys, you really made me proud. Dont forget that if you fall down, get yourself up and move on. Well, this is it. Goodbye, all. P.S.: Use your brain adequately!

Senior Chronicle, 2008 By Hugh Carnahan Eight-year MMA Cadet

Gas was 92 cents a gallon, minimum wage was $5.85 an hour and the date was Feb. 23, 2001.1 was 10 ycars old. It was 9:23 a.m. and the ground was still frosted. I remember looking out the back seat of the old Cadillac and seeing someone in a trench coat. It seemed cold and unwelcoming. When I had unloaded my things and Maj. Vaughan was assuring my parents that I would be OK, my mother looked right at me. I'll never forgel what she said. "Sir, Where can I sign the permission form so you can paddle him?" The fun didn't stop there. I vaguely recall taking a ride down every flight of stairs in A Barracks in a 35-galIon metal trash can the next day. I couldn't hear very well after that. Apparently, Cadet Duncil was a warrant officer, and those were things you were supposed to salute. If you didn't, swift and just punishment was given. It was a new beginning in my life: the cleaning, studying, yes ma'am and no ma'am, and drill were completely overwhelming. I already knew how to do a left- and right-face, so I had a head start. I was glad that I got lot of support from the faculty and staff. Luckily, Lt. Seamen. Ms. Cearly and Maj. K. were there to guide me as I matured. We started hearing rumors that B Barracks was being torn down (o give way to the new Brnvo. Sure enough, the old building came down and I spent the last part of my fifth grade year throwing dead fish from back campus into the giant hole where B used to be. After a short summer of me listing all the reasons why my mother shouldn't send me back to MMA, I ended up back here in 2001-02. My sixth grade year I watched them build the new B right next to my corner room in HQ. One day I climbed into the new B Barracks from my window, right into the room I would eventually live in my eighth grade year. I think I was the first cadet to go into Bravo. Don't tell Mr. Morion or Maj. Vaughn. My seventh grade year the second addition lo the class of 2008 arrived. I was always one step behind Nevin Harralson in everything I did: grades, athletics, cheery disposition and dazzling good looks. It was terrible. He beat me in everything. When our eighth-grade year came, three more joined our class: Thomas Mennemeyer, Bobby Kelley and Vladimir Shelikhov. The only thing I knew about them was that Tom was a fat kid Nevin always beat up, I made a deal with Shelikhov not to give him checks for Saturday morning inspection, and Kelley always made Maj. K. angry. Soon it was over and we found ourselves entering high school in the fall of 2004. Many new members of our class joined us: Mauricio Arregui, Cody Callahan, Manuel Camargo, Yuscanne Campos, Victor Caraballo, Jose Luis Castro, Vincent Chen, Jake Goro, Colorado (Rocky) Huppert, Richard Johnson, Jake Miller and Rene Zuazua. I remember niy platoon leader teaching me the proper positioning of the hands at parade rest, and he was even nice enough to clean his saber off on my shirt afterward. I spent the rest of that year on C3 making sure Cantu, Arizpe or Duncil didn't kill Goro for simply existing. Our sophomore year, 2005-06. wasn't as eventful as our freshman year, minus the 10 or so that liked it when it was snowing. I'm sure our class would have been bigger with Aranda and Level!, if that incident hadn't happened. Nevertheless, our class grew considerably with the addition of Brian Ashley, Gaston Batalla, Giorgio Bonadiman, Rafael Diez Pineyro, Rosendo Gonzalez, Miguel Guerra, Javier Guevara, Christian Gutierrez, Mike Haner-McAIlister, Young Hee Kim, Won Seok Oh, Ange! Olea, Alan Ortega, Jorge Romo, Jose Salinas and Jose Valdez. Rocky, Tom, Mike and I started hanging out together, mostly avoiding the seniors. Toward the end of our sophomore year we all had an epiphany. These will be the last two years that we'd ever get anything free again, so wc had better suck it up and prepare for the worst... or best. 2006-2007 Hnally came, but something had gone horribly wrong. There were now cameras in the halls, and that prevented the unique bonding that we all loved so much. Along with the cameras came Taylor Barton, Jorge Cabello, Yu Tse Cheng, Dan Filla, Justin Hall, David Joung, Bryan Katt, Jun Ho Ko, Cory Laird, Brad Lutat, Shi Xuan Meng, Nick Norwood, Daniel Miranda, Ryan Miranda, James Poettker, Jose Enrique Ruiz, Geoff Spaulding, Chris Taylor, Jonathan Ting, Derek Uhley and Zeb Wickman. One memory that stands out the most from that year is the naming of the "Junior Clique." Toni, Rocky, Mike and I were conversing with a sophomore who tried to keep sitting by us. Well the conversation got kind of loud, which led to our fearless BC, Giuseppe Poletti, standing up and saying, "Hey, chill out, Junior Clique. Let the sophomore mafia guy off the floor." It was a challenging year for ail of us. We had to lead using our limited leadership skills, which is what separated the boys from the men. When designations came around, I could hardly believe that Yuscanne actually got B.C. I could have sworn it was going to be ME! A great year came to a sudden stop with saying goodbye to many of the seniors and people we had grown up with. When we arrived for our final year, 2007-08, we were joined by the final 10 pieces of the class puzzle: Uriel Beltran, Andrew Bisanz, Juan Cristoforo, Dane Frederick, Alex Hall, Stephen Martin, Ryan Orban, Jaime Sandoval, Conor Susi and Ian Williams. It has been a great year, though I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve. Well, guys, this is it. We are the graduating class of 2008. MMA has arguably changed us all, and will have a pennanent impact on our lives. For as long as eight years, some of us have eaten, slept, drilled, complained, fought and lived together. I do not know how I will have the strength to say goodbye to all of you. We have met some extraordinary people and made life-long friendships, but we must all realize that some of us will walk out of each other's lives forever. While it is a scary thought, we must focus on the future. Whether we realize it or not, MMA has had a profound impact on our lives. We can look back and know that we arc forever linked by this brotherhood called Missouri Military Academy- VVc will leave as the Class of 2008. Know that no one can take away what we have learned. Let us always know we can fall back on our brothers for support. Congratulations to the class of 2008. May God be with us all forevermore!
