Colby Lil Darlin’, LD5 Manual Thank you for purchasing the Colby Lil Darlin’. This hand wired amp is based on a highly sought-after and ubiquitous 1950s three tube, single 6V6, 8” speaker combo but takes it to a new level of tone and usability. By using classic build quality, high quality parts with strategic circuit modifications, plus a high quality Weber Alnico magnet speaker, the LD5 has great clean sounds and great Class A overdrive at bedroom levels. A carefully designed dual Volume control further enhance the quality of both the clean and overdriven sounds. The Lil Darlin features the 5E1 circuit with Colby mods, cathode biased 6V6 power amp, single 12AX7, USA 5Y3 rectifier tube, NOS Allen Bradley carbon comp resistors, Mallory signal caps, TAD filter caps, Sprague bypass caps, US built transformers, Weber Signature 8” Alnico magnet speaker and meticulous hand wiring. This is a simple amp. There is an On/Off switch, fuse (1A slo blo), and one control: Volume. The Volume control has been designed so that it alters the circuit as you increase the level. The result is that the tone is maximized for both clean and overdrive. There are many “sweet spots” along the setting of the Volume control. Where they are will depend on your guitar and playing style. The two inputs also sound different. Volume one is brighter and louder. Input 2 is darker and has less gain. Try both to get the most out of the LD5. As will all Colby and Park amps, the Lil Darlin is built by Mitch Colby in NYC.
