Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice at W Courses
Child Protection Clinic
Mitchell students interested in family law, child welfare, and juvenile justice can choose from an array of courses that prepare them for professional opportunities ranging from becoming a traditional practitioner to working as a mediator, collaborative lawyer, child’s attorney, guardian ad litem, or parenting coordinator.
Students gain real-world experience and make a positive difference in the community by representing parents whose children have been removed from the home. From the initial hearing through the cases’ resolutions, which could include a trial, students advocate on behalf of the parents, working to find a solution that is best for the children, the parents, and the community.
Through coursework and externship opportunities, students acquire the knowledge and key skills necessary for successful modern family law, child welfare, and juvenile justice practice.
Family Law Externship Students earn credit by working closely with lawyers who are mediators, collaborative lawyers, guardian ad litems, and in private and public practice.
