Community Sustainability
Creating a thriving Mackinac Island for seasons to come
Mackinac Island Community Foundation promotes the general well-being of Island residents and visitors by working in community partnerships to generate endowed and un-endowed funds and stimulate community-wide initiatives. Throughout 2022, MICF continued to strive for this mission through fulfilling various strategic objectives. These included strengthening financial capabilities, building stronger operations, cultivating partnerships, and taking a greater leadership role on Mackinac Island by tracking community needs to initiate the appropriate response through proactive grantmaking.
Strengthening Financial Capabilities
• Donor-advised fund dollars continue to multiply, generating greater impact in specific areas of need on the Island
• Growth of unrestricted funds, such as the Island Community Needs Fund
• Increased number of grants made through the Island Community Needs Fund
Building Stronger Operations
• Restructuring the grantmaking process, including launching GoApply grant application software
• Becoming more technologybased with increased utilization of AkoyaGO foundation software
• Moving to a new office location, sponsored by Grand Hotel
Cultivating Partnerships

Leadership Role

• Tracking community needs through surveys about housing, childcare, recreation, and other focus areas
